The SCotUS has just given the federal government carte blanche to mandate anything they want...as a tax, of course.

Ten years ago, the SCotUS would have ruled that a mandatory TV tax similar to the BBC TV tax would be unconstitiutional under the commerce clause. But now it would be upheld.

The IRS is the Iron Fist to Enforce Obamacare

One of the arguments raised against the health care reform law is that few people want their health care run by the same people who run the IRS. But the IRS will enforce the law.

According to Newsmax, the Obama administration is transferring $500 million to the IRS to allow the tax agency to begin enforcing tax provisions of Obamacare outside the normal appropriations process and before the Supreme Court rules on the constitutionality of the law. The IRS is also charged with enforcing the individual mandate that forces all Americans to buy health insurance, a key issue in Supreme Court deliberations. The move might seem high handed and even tyrannical. But it is apparently legal.

This legality has not stopped people from complaining. TV and radio pundit Laura Ingraham opined, according to Mediaite, the move was "low rent." Rush Limbaugh openly wondered what sort of expertise the IRS has concerning health care.

Limbaugh likely knows the answer. The IRS has zero expertise in administering health care. It has a lot of expertise is making people do things they ordinarily do not want to do, like cough up money. As anyone who has had the misfortune of dealing with the tax collection agency, the term "customer friendly" does not apply. If the IRS thinks you have underpaid taxes, it will likely collect one way or another.

The Obama administration realizes how unpopular the health care reform law is and recognizes that it needs an iron fist to enforce its provisions. If the individual mandate is somehow found to be constitutional, that will not be the end of it.

If the government can force one to buy health insurance, it can force one to do anything. One way to drive down health care costs will be to enforce lifestyle choices that promote good health. One could conceive of a government mandate to eat healthy and exercise, to eat one's broccoli as Supreme Court Justice famously said.

And what organization better than the IRS to make sure people eat their broccoli?

One thing is for certain, the expansion of the IRS into the enforcement of health care reform provisions has all the potential of being a free employment program for those folks who advertise on the radio and late night TV offering help with IRS problems.

Again, this is all a dog and pony show - who knows what happened, but what PROBABLY happened(imho) was Roberts, Alito, Kennedy, Scalia, and Thomas all drawing straws to see who would be that "swing vote", and make it look that way.

And this isn't the only draconian bill they let through recently - there's been plenty of others they let go with a blind eye(ie-the strip search bill a couple of months ago for minor offenses, supporting Big Pharma in cases against them, and then striking down Montana's 100 year law for banning corporate political donations, among others). House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Thursday that the Republican-led House will vote on repealing the health care law soon after the July 4 recess.

In a victory for the New Deal bastardization of the Constitution, the Supreme Court has ruled that the government can mandate at gunpoint that Americans buy monopolized health care insurance.
“The Supreme Court upheld the health care law today in a splintered, complex opinion that appears to give President Obama a major victory,” reports USAToday.
In order to avoid arguments that the law is a misinterpretation of the Commerce Clause, the Court ruled that the requirement is a tax.
Justice Anthony Kennedy, who held the court’s swing vote, dissented. Reading from the bench, Kennedy said he and three conservative justices believe “the entire Act before us is invalid in its entirety.”
Polls conducted prior to the landmark vote indicate most Americans do not favor the law.
Today’s ruling is important because it is the first time in history that the federal government has required citizens enter into contract with private corporations to buy a product or service. It also represents one of the most egregious violations of the Constitution in American history.
“The insurance mandate clearly exceeds the federal government’s powers under the interstate commerce clause found in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution,” writes Ron Paul. “This is patently obvious: the power to ‘regulate’ commerce cannot include the power to compel commerce! Those who claim otherwise simply ignore the plain meaning of the Constitution because they don’t want to limit federal power in any way.”
“The commerce clause was intended simply to give Congress the power to regulate foreign trade, and also to prevent states from imposing tariffs on interstate goods. In Federalist Paper No. 22, Alexander Hamilton makes it clear the simple intent behind the clause was to prevent states from placing tolls or tariffs on goods as they passed through each state — a practice that had proven particularly destructive across the many principalities of the German empire.”
Expect death panels to come back in a big way now that Obamacare is the law of the land. Now that there is no fear of political backlash, death panels will be sold as a measure to reduce medical costs which will predictably skyrocket (as costs do of anything government touches).
If you are skeptical of this, consider a recent report in Britain. “NHS doctors are prematurely ending the lives of thousands of elderly hospital patients because they are difficult to manage or to free up beds, a senior consultant claimed yesterday,” the Daily Mail reported last week.
It is being sold as a “death pathway” that is the equivalent of euthanasia of the elderly.

Notice when they make the comparison they never say the costs to the buyer, it's just costs or in effect the bottom line to the insurance companies.
