Deal Reached on Fast-Track Authority
for Obama on Trade Accord

By JONATHAN WEISMANAPRIL 16, 2015

WASHINGTON — Key congressional leaders agreed on Thursday on legislation to give President Obama special authority to finish negotiating one of the world’s largest trade accords, opening a rare battle that aligns the president with Republicans against a broad coalition of Democrats.

In what is sure to be one of the toughest fights of Mr. Obama’s last 19 months in office, the “fast track” bill allowing the White House to pursue its planned Pacific trade deal also heralds a divisive fight within the Democratic Party, one that could spill into the 2016 presidential campaign.

With committee votes planned next week, liberal senators such as Sherrod Brown of Ohio are demanding to know Hillary Rodham Clinton’s position on the bill to give the president so-called trade promotion authority, or T.P.A.

Trade unions, environmentalists and Latino organizations — potent Democratic constituencies — quickly lined up in opposition, arguing that past trade pacts failed to deliver on their promise and that the latest effort would harm American workers.

Quote
“We can’t afford to pass fast track, which would lead to more lost jobs and lower wages,” said Richard Trumka, president of the A.F.L.-C.I.O. “We want Congress to keep its leverage over trade negotiations — not rubber-stamp a deal that delivers profits for global corporations, but not good jobs for working people.”

Keep the above in mind while reading the following...

http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/politics/item/19439-rand-paul-to-obama-prioritize-passage-of-trans-pacific-partnership

Rand Paul to Obama: "Prioritize" Passage of Trans-Pacific Partnership

by Joe Wolverton, II, J.D.
The New American
03 November 2014

Politics, the saying goes, makes strange bedfellows. In presidential politics, the cozy compromises with the unconstitutional seem even more unsettling.

Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), a man whose personal popularity and political fortunes have increased in direct proportion to his spreading of his libertarian-leaning ideals, has now publicly embraced the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), an unprecedented sovereignty surrender masquerading as a multi-national trade pact.

Paul’s speech coincided with the TPP ministerial meeting conducted October 19-24 in Sydney, Australia.

Speaking at the Center for the National Interest dinner in New York City on October 23, Senator Paul said:
Our national power is a function of the national economy. During the Reagan renaissance, our strength in the world reflected our successful economy.

Low growth, high unemployment, and big deficits have undercut our influence in the world. Americans have suffered real consequences from a weak economy.

President George W. Bush understood that part of the projection of American power is the exporting of American goods and culture. His administration successfully brokered fourteen new free trade agreements and negotiated three others that are the only new free trade agreements approved since President Obama took office. Instead of just talking about a so-called “pivot to Asia,” the Obama administration should prioritize negotiating the Trans-Pacific Partnership by year’s end.
Why would Rand Paul, a man who has in the past demonstrated a remarkable adherence to the principles of the Constitution, make his own “pivot” away from those doctrines and toward a pact as pernicious as the TPP? Perhaps the answer is found in this paragraph from a story on Paul’s speech printed in The Diplomat: "As a Republican presidential hopeful, Paul likely recognizes that his and the party’s interests are best served by trying to find some issues on which Republicans can cooperate with the administration. This would give the American electorate confidence that the Republican Party is interested in governing, and would make it harder for Democrats to use disgust with the Republican Party to mobilize the Democratic base in the 2016 election."

With the exception of Paul’s father, former congressman Ron Paul, it seems that when constitutionalists begin to crave the chair in the Oval Office, their fidelity to the principles of republicanism is swapped in exchange for approval by the principals of the Republicans.

If Senator Paul’s purpose in pushing for the quick passage of the TPP is to draw so close to the Democrats that they can’t stab him, then he’s probably picked the wrong issue.

Reid's a loose cannon now that he's not running again ...
Maybe the beating he got from his drunk brother put some sense into him ? . No he was against TPP BEFORE the beating ...

How can I be rooting for Reid ? ... Strange ....

Harry Reid Says 'Hell No' To Giving Obama Fast-Track Trade Authority
Posted:  04/21/2015 8:44 pm EDT    Updated:  04/22/2015 12:59 am EDT
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is saying “hell no” to a bipartisan deal reached last week that would grant President Barack Obama authority to quickly push hefty trade deals through Congress.

Though Reid’s position on the fast-track authority bill is no surprise, he sounded off Tuesday. "You couldn't find a person ... who feels more negatively about it than I do,” he said.

“So the answer is not only no, but hell no,” he added.
...
Formally known as “trade promotion authority,” the TPA bill is one issue that divides the president from a number of fellow Democrats, including the Senate minority leader.

“I have never, ever in my 33 years in Congress ever supported, ever supported a trade agreement. And I'm not going to start now,” Reid said. “They're not good for the American people. They're not good for working men and women. It puts us at a disadvantage.”

...
On Wednesday, the Senate Finance Committee is meeting to mark up the bill, and if the deal doesn’t break down then, Republican leadership in the upper chamber is looking to move fast.

“When Orrin Hatch and Paul Ryan and Ron Wyden get on the same page with the president, you better strike while the iron is hot,” said Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), the third-ranking Republican in the Senate.
“I would think if we get a favorable outcome tomorrow, it would be scheduled [for a floor vote] in pretty short order.”

Thune said he would like to see the legislation come to the full Senate next week during Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's visit to Congress. “It would be perfect timing,” he said.

Harry Reid rejects President Obama’s trade push
By ERIC BRADNER and MANU RAJU | 1/29/14 2:10 PM EST  Updated: 1/29/14 5:53 PM EST

President Barack Obama’s push for the two largest free trade deals in U.S. history has hit a major roadblock: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The Nevada Democrat said he opposes a bill that would fast-track the Pacific Rim and European Union pacts through Congress with limited debate and no amendments – which the White House says is crucial to gaining concessions from other countries to finalize those deals.

Reid made it abundantly clear that he has voiced his concerns to Obama’s administration, as well as the outgoing chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Max Baucus (D-Mont.), and his replacement, Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), who would take the lead on the issue once Baucus departs to become U.S. ambassador to China.
...

“Leader Reid has always been clear on his position on this particular issue,” the official said. “As the president said last night, he will continue to work to enact bipartisan trade promotion authority to protect our workers and environment and open markets to new goods stamped ‘Made in the USA,’ and we will not cede this important opportunity for American workers and businesses to our competitors.”

The majority leader’s position essentially kills the president’s trade push this Congress, given that Reid controls the floor schedule and leads a caucus filled with members worried that such deals would harm labor and environmental protections and siphon away U.S. jobs.

But it’s certain to anger Republicans, including House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), both of whom have blasted Obama for doing too little to rally Democratic backing for the bill.

"As few as 15 House Democrats might vote to give the president fast-track authority, according to dozens of Democratic lawmakers, business group representatives and activists on both sides of the trade fight interviewed by The Hill," Vicki Needham reported Tuesday in The Hill.

That is very good news indeed, as it could well prevent the passage of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), elementary to Obama's "Pivot to Asia." It could well be that Europe and the others left us behind because these initiatives are seen globally as a template for war against China. Democratic Party, including [Sen. Elizabeth] Warren [D-Mass.].

Last year, she went to far as to vote against Obama's then-nominee for the head of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, Michael Froman, because of that lack of transparency as the 10 countries involved in the TPP discuss terms.

"I have heard the argument that transparency would undermine the Trade Representative's policy to complete the trade agreement because public opposition would be significant," Warren said in a floor speech. "In other words, if people knew what was going on, they would stop it.
This argument is exactly backwards. If transparency would lead to widespread public opposition to a trade agreement, then that trade agreement should not be the policy of the United States."

But several top Democrats aren’t backing down. Senate minority leader Harry Reid of Nevada told reporters, “I’m not only no, I’m hell no” on Obama’s bid for “fast-track” authority.

The Senate finance committee plans to vote on Wednesday on the fast-track measure. It would renew presidential authority to send Congress trade deals it can endorse or reject, but not amend.
...

The Chamber of Commerce, a business group, strongly endorsed the fast track legislation Tuesday, while the AFL-CIO labor federation denounced it.

Senate approval of fast track seems likely, but the bill’s fate is less certain in the House.

House Democrats overwhelmingly oppose it,
and some House Republicans are loath to give new authorities to Obama.

Trade Promotion Authority legislation gets Senate Finance Committee's approval; TPA will now move toward uncertain decision in Senate

Published on: Apr 23, 2015

Just a few days after introducing legislation that could allow hastier movement of trade deals through Congress, the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday passed the measure out of committee with a 20 to 6 vote.
...

The TPA limits Congress to only and up or down vote on trade deals, but the bill requires the White House to be fully transparent with what's included in the agreements, and consult with Congress throughout the negotiation process.

...

The TPA legislation comes as negotiators are working on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a 12-nation agreement with Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam and the U.S. Together, the countries account for about 40% of global GDP.

Related: Majority of ag groups support new TPA legislation

Ag groups have been pushing for TPA and the pending trade deals – also including the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership with the EU – for some time. Groups see the agreements as a way to expand export markets and level the playing field when it comes to some tariff issues.

"Current and future free trade agreements give us the ability to take our beef … to the 96% of the world's population that lives beyond our borders," National Cattlemen's Beef Association President Philip Ellis said following the vote.
/...

According to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, renewal of the TPA – which dates back to President Franklin D. Roosevelt's time – has been under consideration since 2007.

"We’ve been talking about this for a long time," he said in his opening statement. "Now it is time to act."

But there are uncertainties. One of the key arguments against TPA is that it limits Congressional power. Hatch said these concerns are covered in the bill's text.
...

"Under our legislation, any member of Congress who wants access to the negotiating text will get it," Hatch said. "And, at any time during the negotiations, members of Congress will be able to request and receive a briefing from [U.S. Trade Representative] on the status of the negotiations."

Congress introduces Obama fast-track authority on global trade pacts like TPP

Congressional leaders on the US trade policy have introduced legislation that would grant President Barack Obama “fast-track authority” to enact three looming global trade accords, including the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership.

House Ways and Means Committee Chair Dave Camp (R) and top Senate Finance Committee members Max Baucus (D) and Orrin Hatch (R) on Thursday unveiled the Trade Priorities Act of 2014 that would require a simple up-or-down vote on major trade deals without the opportunity to offer amendments to pertinent bills.

“The [Trade Priorities Act] legislation we are introducing today will make sure that these trade deals get done, and get done right,” Sen. Baucus said in a statement. “This is our opportunity to tell the administration – and our trading partners – what Congress’s negotiating priorities are.”

The Obama administration is seeking the heightened authority in trade deals, allowing the Executive Branch to smooth congressional negotiations on accords. The two major deals, both long in the works, that are likely to be subject to such legislation are the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the 28-nation pact with the European Union, the Trans-Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (TAFTA). The deals would establish the world’s largest so-called free-trade zones.

The US is also working on a services-trade accord with a group of nations that would encompass half of the global economy.

The TPP has come under much scrutiny for being negotiated among the US and 11 other nations along the Pacific Rim: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.

Critics cite serious concerns over how provisions of the project could, for example, drive up the price of medications and other goods across the world. The White House’s reluctance to provide details to leading lawmakers responsible for America’s trade plans has caused a rift within the President’s own political party, as his administration remains adamant about protecting the items being heard.
According to leaked excerpts of the Pacific deal, the Obama administration has been considering TPP provisions that would allow foreign corporations operating within the United States to appeal regulations on the environment, labor and banking that would be enforced on American-owned businesses with no chance of reprieve.

Under the provisions, while the US could be sanctioned for failing to impose regulations on American-run businesses, multinational corporations are given a direct path by the TPP to file such appeals. If one of the Pacific nations chooses to go down that route, their plea would be heard by an international tribunal that could overrule US law.

One group opposing the TPP deal – Fight For The Future – says there is more to be concerned with besides secretive international court mandates. According to group the TPP will: “restrict, police and censor the Internet, stifling free speech and innovation; radically decrease access to affordable medicine; circumvent protections for workers and the environment; expand economic inequality; prevent corporations from properly labeling genetically modified food.”

Outside of elevating “individual foreign firms to equal status with sovereign nations,” government transparency advocate Public Citizen says TPP seems to be less about trade but rather mechanisms to enact corporate policy at the expense of the average American.

“Of TPP’s 29 draft chapters, only five deal with traditional trade issues,” Public Citizen reports on its website. “One chapter would provide incentives to offshore jobs to low-wage countries. Many would impose limits on government policies that we rely on in our daily lives for safe food, a clean environment, and more. Our domestic federal, state and local policies would be required to comply with TPP rules.”

In late July, Obama called for the new fast-track authority. US Trade Representative Michael Froman and US Commerce Department Secretary Penny Pritzker have both urged Congress to ultimately pass the measure.

Supporters of the fast-track legislation include major players like the Business Roundtable, the US Chamber of Commerce, the American Farm Bureau Federation and the National Association of Manufacturers. Boeing, Pfizer, Walmart and numerous other major corporations have aggressively lobbied for the authority granted in the Trade Priorities Act.
“TPA is the Chamber’s top trade priority before the Congress,” Thomas Donohue, the organization’s president and chief executive officer, said Thursday in a statement.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Thursday that while he had not seen details on the new proposed legislation, “when there’s progress on that front it’s a good thing,” according to BusinessWeek.

Meanwhile, a competing bill to the Trade Priorities Act is in the pipeline, said Rep. Sander Levin, the top Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee.

“You have to have a very substantial increase in Congress’s involvement at all stages,” Levin told reporters. The Trade Priorities Act “falls far short” of what would meet that standard, he said.

Dem's make push to make TPP draft text public --- wow ....

Elizabeth Warren Tells Obama To Put Up Or Shut Up On Trade
Posted:  04/25/2015 12:47 pm EDT    Updated:  04/25/2015 8:59 pm EDT
...
Obama accused Warren and congressional Democrats on Friday of being "dishonest" and spreading "misinformation" about the Trans-Pacific Partnership -- a trade pact the administration is negotiating among 12 nations. The overwhelming majority of Democrats in Congress oppose TPP, while Republican leaders support it.

On Saturday, Warren and Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) responded with a letter essentially telling Obama to put up or shut up. If the deal is so great, Warren and Brown wrote, the administration should make the full negotiation texts public before Congress votes on a "fast track" bill that would strip the legislative branch of its authority to amend it.

"Members of Congress should be able to discuss the agreement with our constituents and to participate in a robust public debate, instead of being muzzled by classification rules," Warren and Brown wrote in the letter obtained by The Huffington Post.

Democrats and some Republican critics have been particularly frustrated by Obama's decision to treat the TPP documents as classified information, which prevents them from responding to Obama's claims about the pact in detail.

"Your Administration has deemed the draft text of the agreement classified and kept it hidden from public view, thereby making it a secret deal," the letter reads. "It is currently illegal for the press, experts, advocates, or the general public to review the text of this agreement. And while you noted that Members of Congress may 'walk over ... and read the text of the agreement' -- as we have done -- you neglected to mention that we are prohibited by law from discussing the specifics of that text in public."

Warren and Brown appeared particularly miffed at being accused of lying.

"We respectfully suggest that characterizing the assessments of labor unions, journalists, Members of Congress, and others who disagree with your approach to transparency on trade issues as 'dishonest' is both untrue and unlikely to serve the best interests of the American people," the letter reads.

The White House was not immediately available to comment.
...
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other top corporate lobbying groups support the deal, while environmentalists, organized labor and many Tea Party organizations are opposed. Warren and Brown said that corporate support for the deal shouldn't be surprising.
...
Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton has largely avoided addressing TPP in the early stages of her campaign.

CUT THE CRAP, Warrenistas: The TPP is NOT secret.
Fri Apr 24, 2015

Not at all.

There are many, many people who have unfettered access to the TPP, 24/7 from the comfort of their own computers. Not you, of course: like me, you're lower than a whale turd and need protection from all of the big important words. The people with access include:

- the rich Wall Street banker appointed by President Obama to negotiate the TPP on behalf of us little people, and the people working under him. (Only four senators voted against his nomination; a magical bipartisan moment.)

- about 600 high-ranking members of big corporations and lobbyists, who are "advisors" to negotiating the TPP on behalf of us little people.

Congress can get access, too - don't let anyone tell you otherwise. As President Obama said today, they "can walk over today and read the text of the agreement." But only if they've made an appointment first. And only if they go themselves, and go alone, for the most part. In some instances -- only for members of the Senate Finance committee, perhaps there are a few others - they can bring an aide that has proper security clearance.

Security clearance? Yes, the TPP drafts are classified for national security reasons.

And in the rare instances when aides are permitted to read the drafts, their member of Congress must also be present.

And, at all times while reading the draft, a minder working for the White House's rich banker in charge of TPP must be present to keep an eye on the person(s) reading it. We can trust 600 corporate bigshots and lobbyists, but members of Congress? A scurrilous bunch, gotta be careful.

So we have a document that's hundreds or thousands of pages long, crafted by some of the worlds greatest legal minds who've spent years on this, and members of Congress can only read it themselves (more or less), only by appointment, and only under observation.

Like many of you, I have the pleasure of working with lawyers fairly often. Many of them are decent human beings trying to draft transparent agreements. But more often, their job is to write innocuous-sounding text that totally @#$%s the other party. The idea is for the other party to only find out how completely @#$%ed they are after the thing is signed.

Hundreds or thousands of pages of text, written over years by hundreds of the worlds keenest legal minds trying to @#$% everyone else, and members of Congress can only read it themselves (more or less), by appointment, and under observation. And you can't read it at all, Lumpenprole.

Sucks to be you.

So, see? It's not a secret. Not at all.

A little video you might enjoy, thanks to a wonderful post by DUer KoKo:

And here's Elizabeth Warren at the confirmation hearing of the rich Wall Street banker Obama appointed to help you and me to live better lives through free trade with microwage nations, one of which last year imposed stoning to death as the penalty for homosexual behavior:

https://youtu.be/kAgJaIwdXLI

One final word: I am so @#$%ing tired of idiots spraying warm pee over anyone who tries to speak the truth on this topic. It is revolting, utterly depraved, to defend further assaults against decent, hard-working Americans who weren't born rich, or otherwise blessed with the smarts, luck, and/or deficit of empathy needed to amass a fortune in contemporary America. Enough! Leave us a little flesh on our bones.

How can he say that TPP is not secret?  Congressman can look at the documents but they will be observed when looking.

And we the public can only get snippets from the X22 Report and other alternative media.

TPP includes forcing open borders to foreign workers .... Oh really ? no that couldn't be ... That's an immigration issue ...

Obama-GOP “Trade” Scheme Includes “Unrestricted Immigration”

The establishment GOP-backed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), recently touted by the White House as the “most progressive trade agreement in history,” is also a “Trojan horse” to advance Obama’s “unrestricted immigration” agenda, according to political insiders and critics who have studied the secretive scheming. With the Big Government wing of the Republican Party currently plotting to empower the Obama administration with fast-track Trade Promotion Authority to make it easier to impose the TPP and other radical agreements on the American people, opponents are warning that the White House immigration agenda may become all but impossible to stop. Critics say Congress must refuse to empower Obama on the issue.

As The New American reported recently, a leaked chapter of the TPP deal would create NAFTA-style international “tribunals” with the purported authority to override American laws, courts, and even the U.S. and state constitutions — all for the benefit of special interests, foreigners, and crony capitalists. The American people and self-government would be the big losers.
...
Under TPA, any pseudo-free-trade deal negotiated by Obama, foreign governments, and special interests would merely get an up or down vote in Congress, denying lawmakers an opportunity to amend it. The scheme would also bypass the constitutional method for ratifying treaties — two-thirds majority support in the Senate — in favor of a simple majority vote in both houses of Congress. If approved, Obama’s immigration machinations, including a drastically expanded “temporary worker” program, would reportedly be set in stone, beyond the reach of the American people or their elected representatives.

“All these ‘21st-century trade agreements’ are written by the same corporate interests and negotiators, and all have the same goal: more visas for foreign workers,” continued Ellis with the American Jobs Alliance. “If TPP goes into effect, they will be beyond the reach of any future Congress. The Trans-Pacific Partnership is another instance of Obama using every means he can to advance his immigration agenda, as he said he would.”

The plot to use TPP as a back door for advancing Obama’s immigration agenda has received virtually no coverage by the establishment press. But it is not because the information is not there. In fact, Obama’s Trade Representative in charge of negotiating the pact with foreign regimes and special interests even boasted that the “temporary entry” guest worker scheme is a “key feature” of the controversial “trade” regime being negotiated. “TPP countries have substantially concluded the general provisions of the chapter,” the administration said, referring to the TPP chapter on immigration matters. “Specific obligations related to individual categories of business person are under discussion.”

...
a column published last week, meanwhile, pundit and former Bill Clinton advisor Dick Morris also sounded the alarm about the mass-immigration-by-stealth agenda being pursued by the Obama administration. “Under the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a free trade agreement, Congress could lose the power to restrict immigration,” he explained. “We could find ourselves back in the era before the 1920s when there were no restrictions on immigration and anyone from anywhere could come to our shores. And Republicans, from Mitch McConnell and John Boehner on down, are unwittingly helping Obama achieve this goal.” More likely, of course, is that the establishment wing of the GOP is wittingly helping Obama.

According to Morris, the TPP “contains a barely noticed provision that allows for the free migration of labor among the signatory nations.” Indeed, that element is actually patterned after similar provisions in the treaties foisted on European peoples to destroy national sovereignty and impose the unaccountable super-state now known as the European Union. The provision on immigration, Morris said, “would override national immigration restrictions in the name of facilitating free flow of labor.” That could “easily be interpreted” as “allowing farm workers and others to flow back and forth without legal regulation,” he added.

...

Aside from the open borders component, it would also be a massive blow to the U.S. Constitution. “The treaty could lead to the effective repeal of the specifically enumerated power granted to Congress in Article I of the Constitution to regulate immigration and naturalization,” Morris said. “While the treaty is still being negotiated, the current focus on white-collar immigration [is] sufficiently elastic to allow open borders.”

“It is odd, indeed, to see Republicans falling all over themselves to reward this president with more power, voluntarily reducing Congressional oversight and increasing executive authority,” Morris argued. “At the very least, one would assume that TPP would give the GOP bargaining power to force Obama to backtrack on amnesty for people immigrating illegally and possibly on Obamacare. But far from forcing concessions, Republicans are lining up in support of fast track and, by implication, TPP.”

In a follow-up this week on Newsmax TV’s America’s Forum, Morris also noted that the TPP immigration provisions would allow “free flow of workers” between the countries being targeted for submission under the supranational TPP regime — Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Communist Vietnam, Brunei, Chile, and Peru. Eventually, Communist China could join, too. That little-noticed provision would create what Morris described as “unrestricted immigration,” all beyond the reach of Congress.

“This is huge,” Morris said. “I hope everybody listening takes action, call your senator about it.” Phone numbers for lawmakers can be found here.

On April 21, Executive Director Roy Beck of the immigration-focused NumbersUSA also put lawmakers on notice. “President Obama has made it abundantly clear that he believes he has virtually unfettered authority to change U.S. immigration law,” the group warned in a message to every member of Congress explaining that a vote in favor of TPA would be scored as a vote against American workers. “It should not be surprising, therefore, that his administration is attempting to use the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement to commit America to immigration increases that Congress has neither debated nor approved.”

Despite a U.S. labor force participation rate that is at its lowest level since 1978, President Obama wants to use the TPP to further reduce the jobs available to U.S. workers and instead reserve certain jobs for foreign workers under the agreement,” NumbersUSA continued. “It is indefensible that Congress would now consider surrendering even more of its authority over immigration to this President in order to fast track a trade agreement that will harm American workers, and the text of which Congress has not even seen.”

As of now, faced with an avalanche of opposition from across the political spectrum, it is not clear that the establishment wing of the GOP has enough votes to ram through the bill to empower Obama with TPA. However, if the American people do not get educated, active, and organized, the threat of TPA, TPP, and other schemes will continue to grow.

Cruz Supports Giving Fast Track Authority on Trade to Obama

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., penned a joint op-ed for the Wall Street Journal Wednesday calling on Congress to pass Trade Promotion Authority legislation. The two conservative lawmakers argue that the legislation, also known as "Fast Track," is urgently needed to strengthen the U.S.'s ability to negotiate future trade deals.

Senate panel approves trade bill
By Vicki Needham - 04/22/15 09:50 PM EDT

The Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday approved a bill that would streamline passage of global trade deals through Congress.

The panel approved, on a 20-6 vote, a long-awaited trade promotion authority (TPA) measure with the support of seven Democrats, sending the measure to the Senate floor, where it will face another tough test in the coming weeks.

The Democrats who voted to approve were Sens. Ron Wyden (Ore.), Maria Cantwell (Wash.), Ben Cardin (Md.), Bill Nelson (Fla.), Tom Carper (Del.), Mark Warner (Va.) and Michael Bennet (Colo.).

The lone Republican to oppose was Sen. Richard Burr (N.C.).

Stop Fast-Track TPA -> TPP = ObamaTrade = unlimited immigration (EU style "migration" ) and Climate Change cap and trade
http://obamatrade.com/

http://obamatrade.com/888/
Act Now – Tell Congress “No Fast Track for Obamatrade!”

TELL CONGRESS TO SAY NO FAST TRACK and stop Obama’s immigration-and-regulation agenda – Vote “NO” on Fast Track. Fast Track gives Obama the power to lock in his agenda so no future President or Congress will be able to change it. Tell your representatives to JUST SAY NO to FAST TRACK!

https://youtu.be/OnpIwNOetnw
Obamatrade = Unrestricted Immigration

Political strategist Dick Morris explains how the TransPacific Partnership, aka Obamatrade, will allow unrestricted immigration and handcuff Congress and a future president from enforcing immigration laws.

Sen. Jeff Sessions slams “trade” deals promoting immigration

Sen. Jeff Sessions says trade deals, like the TransPacific Partnership aka Obamatrade, should not include provisions for immigration and foreign workers – which Obamatrade does.  The Constitution gives Congress the authority to regulate immigration, and these trade agreements are stepping on the Constitution when they take away Congress’ power to limit the number of workers that can be brought into…

| - - -

http://action.getliberty.org/17204/tell-congress-no-fast-track-obama/

Congress is considering giving President Barack Obama fast track trade authority to negotiate the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Fast track means that Congress would cede its right to amend the trade deal. Instead, it would be granted an up or down vote — even if it needed to be fixed — and that is the primary reason why Congress must say no.

A so-called executive-legislative branch agreement — never considered under the original terms and conditions of the Constitution — it is a pure fabrication of the modern administrative state begun in the 1930s. Nothing more.

Prior to that time, trade treaties, such as the United Kingdom Commerce and Navigation Treaty of 1815, a free trade agreement, required a two-thirds Senate majority to ratify. Too bad nobody told then-President James Madison — father of the Constitution — he could have done it with simple majorities of both houses. Somehow that escaped his attention.

Making matters worse, the U.S. Trade Representative website on the trade deal explicitly states, “Through the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the United States is negotiating for robust environment standards and commitments from member countries.”

Meaning this is really just a stealth climate treaty — the outcome of which will be to allow Obama to unilaterally regulate the global economy. This cannot stand.

Obama should have to explain and where necessary defend every word in any treaty he agrees to, with it being held to the highest level of scrutiny, and then to only be submitted to the Senate for the requisite two-thirds majority vote needed for ratification.  That is their job — to amend or defeat any treaty that falls short of being in America’s interests.

Not giving the President trade promotion authority is not anti- trade.  In fact, the United States already exports $861 billion to the trans-Pacific trade partners, accounting for almost 40 percent of the $2.2 trillion of U.S. exports worldwide in 2012. As a result of this continued trade, our economic bonds with these nations are tight.

Now it is time for Congress to step up and fight for the constitutional separation of powers and the Senate's role in making treaties — not give more executive powers to Obama to negotiate a bad deal for the U.S. economy.

Yes, this is a stick-up: sign over your national sovereignty to the NWO or the NWO backed ISIS, the NWO frenemy China and the NWO/Soros'ian anarchists will take over the world.

Tom Friedman: If We Don't Sign The TPP Agreement, The World Will Be Overtaken By ISIS, Anarchy And China

excerpted

Friedman,... insists it's necessary, because without it... ISIS wins. Or something like that. Honestly, it's hard to parse out what he's actually saying because the broad meaningless platitudes just take over:

Quote
Because these deals are not just about who sets the rules. They’re about whether we’ll have a rule-based world at all. We’re at a very plastic moment in global affairs — much like after World War II. China is trying to unilaterally rewrite the rules. Russia is trying to unilaterally break the rules and parts of both the Arab world and Africa have lost all their rules and are disintegrating into states of nature. The globe is increasingly dividing between the World of Order and the World of Disorder.

When you look at it from Europe — I’ve been in Germany and Britain the past week — you see a situation developing to the south of here that is terrifying. It is not only a refugee crisis. It’s a civilizational meltdown: Libya, Yemen, Syria and Iraq — the core of the Arab world — have all collapsed into tribal and sectarian civil wars, amplified by water crises and other environmental stresses.

From there, he wanders through random musings about the collapse of civilization in the Middle East that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with a trade agreement concerning countries in the Pacific Rim. Then he magically brings it back around to the TPP by arguing "something something New World Order World of Order."

Quote
What does all this have to do with trade deals? With rising disorder in the Middle East and Africa — and with China and Russia trying to tug the world their way — there has never been a more important time for the coalition of free-market democracies and democratizing states that are the core of the World of Order to come together and establish the best rules for global integration for the 21st century, including appropriate trade, labor and environmental standards. These agreements would both strengthen and more closely integrate the market-based, rule-of-law-based democratic and democratizing nations that form the backbone of the World of Order.
Morality is contraband in war.

Ralph Nader on Bernie Sanders, the TPP "Corporate Coup d’État" & Writing to the White House

As independent Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont announces his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, we speak to former presidential candidate Ralph Nader. "We don’t want a coronation of Hillary Clinton," Nader says of Sanders’ run. We also talk about his new book, "Return to Sender: Unanswered Letters to the President, 2001-2015." The book is dedicated in part to the workers of the U.S. Postal Service.

Bernie Sanders and Ralph Nader make some very good points. The corporate ownership of congress and the president is sickening and getting worse.Trade agreements written by lobbyists in secret? Doing all they can to keep the bills from the eyes of the people? Then to have a yes or no vote with no amendments?

You can call Sanders and Nader socialists or communists all you want but they are spot on about many things.

Obama’s Trade Bill Gets Boost as Mitch McConnell Vows Vote ‘Soon’

May 5, 2015 2:02 PM PDT

The Senate majority leader says he has been working with the White House on passing the deal.

The U.S. Senate will take up legislation to give President Barack Obama the trade negotiating authority he wants “very soon,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said.

It’s been almost an out of body experience but we’ve been working closely with the White House,” McConnell told reporters Tuesday as he said the trade bill would follow action on two other measures. “We’re working together to try to get it across the finish line.”

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, a foe of “fast-track” trade authority...

,...
Asked whether 60 senators would vote to advance the bill, a procedural step in a chamber where Republicans hold 54 seats, McConnell said: “We sure hope so. We’re working it hard.” Seven Democrats voted in the Senate Finance Committee to approve the bill, suggesting Reid lacks the votes to stall the measure
...

[ So this must be stopped in the House ... But stopping it here would be good ...
So will Replicant Prez candidates like RAND PAUL,  CRUZ AND RUBIO vote FOR THIS CRAP? (yes)  hmmm ... ]

I'm posting this article for archival purposes, when
TPP kicks in.  There will be so many revisions, addendums,
it will devastate the U.S. economy and  people.  I once said
if zero got re-elected the USA will be a former shell of what it
once was / used to be .

Ultra-Secrecy Surrounds Barack Obama’s New Global Economic Treaty

By Michael Snyder

May 5th, 2015

Barack Obama is secretly negotiating a global economic treaty which would destroy thousands of American businesses and millions of good paying American jobs.  In other words, it would be the final nail in the coffin for America’s economic infrastructure.  Obama knows that if the American people actually knew what was in this treaty that they would be screaming mad, so the negotiations are being done in secret.  The only people that are allowed to look at the treaty are members of Congress, and even they are being banned from saying anything to the public.  American workers are about to be brutally stabbed in the back, and thanks to all of this secrecy and paranoia they won’t even see it coming.

The name of this new treaty is “the Trans-Pacific Partnership”, and it is being touted as perhaps the most important trade agreement in history.  But very few people in this country are talking about it, because none of us are allowed to see it.  An article that was just released by Politico detailed the extreme secrecy that is surrounding this trade agreement…

If you want to hear the details of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal the Obama administration is hoping to pass, you’ve got to be a member of Congress, and you’ve got to go to classified briefings and leave your staff and cellphone at the door.

If you’re a member who wants to read the text, you’ve got to go to a room in the basement of the Capitol Visitor Center and be handed it one section at a time, watched over as you read, and forced to hand over any notes you make before leaving.

And no matter what, you can’t discuss the details of what you’ve read.

This treaty is going to affect the lives of every man, woman and child living in this nation, and yet it is deemed so “important” that none of us can know what is in it?

Are you sure that we still live in a Republic?

This treaty will cover 40 percent of the global economy, and U.S. officials hope that the EU, China and India will become members eventually as well…

Right now, there are 12 countries that are part of the negotiations: the United States, Canada, Australia, Brunei, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.  These nations have a combined population of 792 million people and account for an astounding 40 percent of the global economy.  And it is hoped that the EU, China and India will eventually join as well.  This is potentially the most dangerous economic treaty of our lifetimes, and yet there is very little political debate about it in this country.

If the EU, China and India did eventually join the treaty, that would essentially make it a trade agreement for the entire planet.

This is a really big deal, and it should be openly debated by the American people.  But instead, Barack Obama has chosen to shroud the entire process with as much secrecy as possible.  Not only that, he also wants Congress to give him fast track negotiating authority.  If Congress does that, they would essentially be saying that they blindly trust Obama to negotiate a good treaty for us.  At the end of the process, Congress would be able to vote the treaty up or down, but would not be able to amend it.

That sounds insane, right?  Well, if you can believe it, Republicans in the Senate are quite eager to give Barack Obama this authority.

And this is not just an economic treaty.  The following is an excerpt from one of my previous articles…

It is basically a gigantic end run around Congress.  Thanks to leaks, we have learned that so many of the things that Obama has deeply wanted for years are in this treaty.  If adopted, this treaty will fundamentally change our laws regarding Internet freedom, healthcare, copyright and patent protection, food safety, environmental standards, civil liberties and so much more.  This treaty includes many of the rules that alarmed Internet activists so much when SOPA was being debated, it would essentially ban all “Buy American” laws, it would give Wall Street banks much more freedom to trade risky derivatives and it would force even more domestic manufacturing offshore.

We can’t consume our way to prosperity, and we can’t borrow and spend our way to prosperity.  In order to be prosperous as a nation, we have got to create at least as much wealth as we consume.  But instead, we are doing just the opposite.  We are consuming wealth like mad even while our economic infrastructure is being absolutely gutted.  We have lost thousands of businesses and millions of jobs already, and this new treaty will make things much worse.

And of course eventually even the ultra-cheap labor on the other side of the planet will be replaced.  This is something that is already happening in China.  Just today there was a news story about a new manufacturing facility in China that will use only robots…

Construction work has begun on the first factory in China’s manufacturing hub of Dongguan to use only robots for production, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

A total of 1,000 robots would be introduced at the factory initially, run by Shenzhen Evenwin Precision Technology Co, with the aim of reducing the current workforce of 1,800 by 90 percent to only about 200, Chen Xingqi, the chairman of the company’s board, was quoted as saying in the report.

The company did not give a figure for the investment in the factory, but said its production capacity could reach a value of 2 billion yuan (US$322 million) annually.

All of this is very bad news for American workers.  Whether it is ultra-cheap labor on the other side of the globe or new technology, big corporations are constantly looking for ways to produce things less expensively.

But in order to have a middle class, we have got to have middle class jobs.  The middle class in the United States is steadily disappearing, and neither political party seems very concerned about this at all.

Even without this new trade treaty, our trade deficit with the rest of the planet continues to grow even larger.  We just learned that the monthly U.S. trade deficit for March rose to $51.4 billion.  That was the largest monthly trade deficit since October 2008.  If you will remember, in October 2008 we were experiencing the worst financial crisis since the days of the Great Depression.

And if you take oil out of the number, our trade deficit for the month of March would be the worst ever recorded.

Thank you Barack Obama.  Your trade policies are really “working”.

Because the trade deficit was much worse than expected, that is going to push the GDP number for the first quarter into negative territory…

Greg Daco of Oxford Economics says he expects the wider than expected trade deficit to prompt the government to revise its estimate of 0.2% growth in U.S. gross domestic product for the first quarter to a 0.5% contraction.

That means that if we have another contraction in the second quarter, we will officially be in a recession.

In fact, we could be in a recession right now (according to the official government definition) and not even know it yet.

One of the biggest reasons why the U.S. economy has been struggling so much in recent years is due to our trade policies.  If we had balanced trade with other nations, our cumulative economic growth since mid-2009 would have been nearly 20 percent higher…

Since rising trade balances subtract from economic growth, the increase in this real non-oil goods deficit has now cut cumulative U.S. economic growth after inflation by a stunning 19.49 percent since the recovery technically began in mid-2009.

Are you starting to see why I get so fired up about trade?

But instead of encouraging big corporations to do what is right for the American people, our system greatly rewards companies like Apple that proudly send jobs offshore.  The following is an excerpt from an outstanding article by Andrew Zatlin…

Nine years, a trillion dollars in sales, and almost no taxes paid. That’s just the starting point for wondering about Apple’s actual contribution to the US economy.

Apple’s success drags down the US GDP.  The behemoth that is Apple sold almost 200M phones last year, none of which were made in the US or used components made here. Instead of exporting $100B in iPhones, the US imported $50B. That $150B swing matters in terms of balance of trade, GDP and jobs. If you wanted to improve the US economy, there’s no better place to start than with Apple and smartphones.

Apple undermines the US manufacturing base. Assembly matters and manufacturing matters more. There was a time when Apple could have assembled phones and tablets in the US, but that would mean spending an extra $5 per phone since that’s approximately the extra labor cost to build that $700 phone here instead of in Vietnam or China. Assembly may not be a competitive, value-add step but it does employ a lot of people.

Unfortunately, it would also cut Apple’s profits by $1B, shrinking the company’s annual net income from $45B to $44B. Apple wouldn’t notice a drop in profits of $1B because it’s not putting its cash to use: Apple has $200B in cash conveniently parked outside of the US, not doing anything. On the other hand, assembling in the US would employ tens of thousands of people.

You can read the rest of that great article right here.

Our trade policies matter.  Decades of incredibly foolish decisions have ripped our economic infrastructure to shreds, and we are slowly but steadily committing national economic suicide.

Now, Barack Obama is absolutely determined to deliver the finishing blow, and it is all being done in secret.

When are you going to wake up and start getting angry America?

It will be interesting to see what happens when the TPA vote happens ... supposedly they need every replicant vote ...  People don't see how Rand was brought into the senate by McConnell l

AND YOU KNOW WHAT---RON PAUL IS RIGHT.

TPP is not for the people.  Why?  Because it is secret.  To even see the bill you have to be a member of CONGRESS.  The Congressman has to go to a classified briefing in the basement of the Capital and he cannot take an aid in with him.  He can't take his cell phone.  He can look at only sections of the TPP.  As he is reading the TPP,  a guard is watching him.  Any notes taken are left with the guard.  And he cannot discuss the TPP with anyone.  If it gets out in the press, they will be censured by Congress.  WHAT KIND OF COUNTRY DO WE LIVE IN?  WE ARE OUT COMMIE' ING THE COMMUNISTS.

Obama To Visit Nike To Promote TPP. Wait, NIKE? Really?

Obama To Visit Nike To Promote TPP. Wait, NIKE? Really?
05/07/2015 - Dave Johnson

President Obama is scheduled to visit Nike's Oregon headquarters on Friday to promote the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Yes, Nike - a company that grew to billions by outsourcing jobs to overseas sweatshops, a company that sets up P.O.-box subsidiaries in tax havens to avoid paying U.S. taxes, a company that uses threats to extort tax breaks from its "home" state.

Phil Knight, head of Nike, is now worth $23 billion because America's trade policies encourage companies like Nike to create and move jobs outside of the U.S. The 23rd-richest American is one more symbol of the kind of inequality that results from outsourcing enabled and encouraged by these trade policies. Workers here lose (or never get) jobs; workers there are paid squat; a few people become vastly, unimaginably wealthy.

Meanwhile Massachusetts-based New Balance struggles to manufacture its athletic footwear in the U.S. TPP will remove tariffs on imported Vietnamese and Malaysian shoes, benefiting Nike and wiping out New Balance's efforts to maintain its manufacturing here.

Wrapped in the pleasing package of 'free trade'.

We'll have to have 'freely traded' our sovereignty to accept it.

Sweatshops are a good backdrop for it too, and who could miss the obvious inclusion of the Greek goddess of victory (featured in such a brazenly-covert, publicly-occult Trojan horse for corporate globalism) as though these economic treaties are themselves a divine success or divinely blessed.

Yes they wrap this crap up in nice wrapping paper that says free trade and the asleep public thinks it's ok.

Off the subject but the PATRIOT ACT expires on June 1st.  THE CRIMINALS THAT RUN THE GOVERNMENT ARE PLACING NEW WRAPPING PAPER ON THE PATRIOT ACT  AND NOW THEY WANT TO FAST TRACK A DIFFERENT VERSION OF THE PATRIOT ACT CALLED THE US FREEDOM ACT.

LOOK AT ALL THESE NICE WORDS---PATRIOT AND FREEDOM AND FREE TRADE.  WHAT COULD POSSIBLY BE WRONG WITH THESE ACTS AND AGREEMENTS SAYS THE DUMB-DOWNED-PUBLIC THAT WATCHES CNN?

I believe that part of the agenda of the Baltimore and Garland, Texas incidents is to shove the US Freedom Act down our throats and to also nationalize the local police.  Their main goal is to declare martial law and take our guns when the SHTF.
