RNC might block entire Nevada delegation over Ron Paul delegate mischief

By Justin Sink - 05/03/12 08:53 AM ET

The Republican National Committee is warning the Nevada GOP that if supporters of Ron Paul are allowed to take too many slots for the national convention, the party may opt against seating the state's entire convention delegation.

"I believe it is highly likely that any committee with jurisdiction over the matter would find improper any change to the election, selection, allocation, or binding of delegates, thus jeopardizing the seating of Nevada’s entire delegation to the National Convention," said John R. Phillippe, Jr., the chief counsel for the RNC, in a letter obtained by the Las Vegas Sun.

The RNC is concerned that the Paul campaign will game the state-level convention this weekend that selects delegates to the national convention. While Mitt Romney should be awarded 20 of the state's 28 delegates, based on his dominating win in the state's primary, it's possible that Paul supporters could exploit their strength in the Nevada GOP to get named to some of those delegate slots.

The national party is apparently concerned those delegates would then ignore party rules that would bind them to vote for Romney on the first round of balloting.

Ron Paul Will Win Nevada, and the GOP Wants to Stop Him

In a shockingly brazen power trip, the national GOP has sent a threatening letter to Nevada Republicans demanding that they show support for former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney at their state convention this weekend.

The Nevada Republican Convention is the highest legislative body of the state's Republican Party and the desultory letter seeks to challenge that autonomy. In the letter, Republican National Committee Chief Counsel John R. Phillipe, Jr., introduces a new way of thinking that entitles former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney to, in essence, veto the election of delegates that he is unhappy with. The text of the letter can be read here.

The letter, dated May 2, was addressed to newly-elected Nevada GOP Chairman Michael McDonald and ended on a paternalistic tone in which it threatened to strip all of Nevada's delegates: "I believe it is highly likely that any committee with jurisdiction over the matter would find improper any change to the election, selection, allocation, or binding of delegates thus jeopardizing the seating of Nevada's entire delegation to the National Convention."

This letter points to a possible bias against Texas Congressman Ron Paul among the national Republican leadership and comes on the heels of strong Paul finishes over the last two weeks in Louisiana, Minnesota, Alaska, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

As a matter of conscience, do Republican party rules have priority over the Constitution? If a citizen knows that Romney has promised signing an unconstitutional law (e.g. NDAA), can they vote for him? I did not get elected as a RP delegate in my district in Maryland. Since I am a naturalized citizen and took the oath, my plan was to get a lawyer to defend my refusal to vote for him at the convention. Party rules non-withstanding.

Ron Paul supporters oust two Romney RNC candidates in Nevada

SPARKS – In a show of anti-establishment power at Saturday’s Nevada Republican Convention, GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul supporters ousted two Mitt Romney backers from the Republican National Committee.

The vote came during a day of clashes between the two camps as Paul backers sought to install his people in the party hierarchy and elect as many Nevada delegates as possible to the national convention in Tampa, Fla.

RNC National Committeeman Bob List, a former Nevada governor, lost election to James Smack, vice chairman of the state GOP and a Paul supporter from Fallon. The vote was 932 for Smack and 623 for List.

RNC National Committeewoman Heidi Smith lost to Diana Orrock, one of Paul’s backers who have been taking control of the Clark County GOP. Carol Del Carlo of Incline Village also was in the running. Orrock got 902 votes to 429 for Del Carlo and 231 for Smith.

Each state has a female and male RNC representative on the committee, which runs the national Republican Party – a key duty in 2012 when the White House is at stake as well as control of the U.S. Senate and Congress. ‎

Paul Wins Nevada and Maine Despite Sabotage Effort by Republicans
http://www.infowars.com/paul-wins-nevada-and-maine-despite-sabotage-effort-by-republicans/

The Republican establishment lost big in Maine on Saturday despite their best efforts to spike the process.

The election held in Augusta, Maine, catapulted Paul supporters to leadership positions, including convention secretary and convention chairman, and shifted the convention away from Romney.

“It was a major symbolic coup for Paul supporters and a bit of a letdown for Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. Ironically, Romney’s brother, Scott Romney, was scheduled to deliver the convention’s keynote address on Saturday evening,” the Bangor Daily News reported on Saturday.

The result in Maine underscores the power of the Paul campaign. Paul supporters have also taken control of the party in Iowa and made huge gains in Nevada. Both states are critical swing states. Nevada has the fourth largest Mormon population in the country. Mitt Romney is a Mormon.

Continued support for Paul will undoubtedly spell trouble for Romney and Republicans in November.

Desperate establishment Republicans tried to derail the Paul effort in Maine with dirty tracks, as the video below reveals. Republican operatives had circulated a fake list of Ron Paul convention delegates, but their effort to undermine Ron Paul failed.
