Morgellons Research – HEALTHY PEOPLE NEEDED!

Carnicom Institute wishes to emphasize that in order for the Morgellons Research Project to be completed, an adequate number of participants must be procured for each group. In particular, we are seeking healthy individuals to participate in Group II as members of the “control group.” The need for healthy individuals to contribute to this study is critical.

Unfortunately, our effort to recruit healthy individuals into this study has been challenging.  If you are fortunate to be healthy and willing to help those in need, please contact us with your interest to participate at info@carnicominstitute.org.

Interviews

On October 4th, researcher Clifford Carnicom was a featured guest along with holistic nutritionist Nancy Guberti on a blogtalk internet radio show hosted by Pamela Crane. Pamela is the spokesperson for Morgellons Focus on Health which is an all volunteer organization. They act as health advocates for those suffering from toxic based disease such as Morgellons, Autism, Tick Born Disease, Vector based illness, Chronic Fatigue, and stubborn toxic weight gain. Their blogtalk is the combined efforts of a valiant few. Pamela blogtalk site: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/pamcrane and Nancy Guberti’s site: http://nancyguberti.com/.

Mr. Carnicom discussed the history related to Morgellons, the chemistry of his methodology in the research and the current Morgellons Research Study underway at Carnicom Institute. There are two ”in progress” research papers available by Clifford Carnicom and be found here: The Breaking of Bonds and the Reduction of Iron and Amino Acids Verified. Also, available for listening is a research discussion on the former paper by clicking here: Morgellons Research Discussion.

CBC - Consciousness Beyond Chemtrails Conference

On August 19th, Clifford Carnicom presented at the Consciousness Beyond Chemtrails Conference in Los Angeles, California. Mr. Carnicom’s lecture was titled, “Geo-Engineering and Bio-Engineering: The Unmistakable Link.” He was the final presenter at the three day conference which was viewed locally as well as across the United States and in other countries worldwide.

Overall the conference was an amazing event bringing together many advocates and activists working to understand and expose the environmental and health problems caused by the aerosol disbursements in our skies. Unfortunately, Mr. Carnicom was unable to complete his full presentation. Carnicom Institute plans to record the Mr. Carnicom’s full complete lecture in the near future and post to our youtube channel. In the meantime, DVDs of the event are available for purchase.

The full event or individual presentations can be purchased by visiting www.consciousnessbeyondchemtrails.com

Research Papers

More than a year of concentrated and dedicated effort by Clifford Carnicom allows the presentation of four research papers:  (Click the research title in blue for the link)

Morgellons: A Thesis : this paper describes the significant disruption and role of iron that is associated with the Morgellons condition.

Proteinaceous Complex Identified : an important proteinaceous complex has been identified within the Morgellons culture study, and this represents an important pathway to future research on the mitigation of the Morgellons condition.

Morgellons: The Breaking of Bonds and the Reduction of Iron : Three methods that appear to interfere with the molecular bonding of the iron-dipeptide complex that is now understood to be characteristic of the “Morgellons” growth structure have been established and identified. This result has been a primary target of research through this past year, and it may represent an important potential inhibitor to the structure growth.

Amino Acids Verified : The existence of certain amino acids, namely cysteine and histidine, as a dominant aspect of the “morgellons” growth structure, appears to have been verified.  This finding, along with that previously recorded on the important role that iron plays from a compositional standpoint, may be a highly important window into the structural framework of the morgellons condition.

Morgellons Research Report:

The Carnicom Institute is working earnestly on our current research project aimed at studying  measurable characteristics of the Morgellons condition using the high standards of bio-medical research.  Dr. Jim McClure of Santa Fe has stepped forward to lead us in this challenging endeavor. A small number of doctors have also joined us in an advisory capacity.  Our research team meets weekly to discuss the findings that are beginning to come in, albeit more slowly than we might have hoped.  We have had some administrative kinks to work out, and we apologize for any delay in communications for the project.  We are streamlining our systems and our communications are improving.

At present 170 people have been sent documents for the first phase of the project. We are waiting to hear back from many of those people, but we also have a sizeable portion who are being processed through the various phases of the project. Please see the Morgellons Research Project (MRP) status report on our website for a description of the framework of our study:

http://www.carnicominstitute.org/html/status_report.html

Your help is vitally needed. We are looking for more individuals to populate Groups 2 and 3 of our study.  Those who consider themselves healthy, as well as those who do have some health concerns which may be related to Morgellons but who do not have the skin lesions characteristic of the condition are strongly urged to participate in the MRP. At present most of our applicants are those struggling with Morgellons; we need to have control groups against which to measure their medical data. Please consider joining us as a participant.  The results of our study will do a great deal to give the Morgellons condition the scientific legitimacy it deserves.  Thank you for your consideration of our request.  We cannot do this without you. The public loses for every day our study is delayed due to inaction.

We believe a greater understanding of the Morgellons Condition is vital, and must be accomplished for the benefit of us all. We hope that you will offer us your help.  Get Involved Now! http://www.carnicominstitute.org/html/morgellonsgeneraldescription.html

Research Papers:

Clifford Carnicom has prensented hundreds of research papers through the years. His most recently papers are outlined below. Please visit the Media Research Library accessible through the Carnicom Institute website to continuing reading. Research http://www.carnicominstitute.org/html/articles_by_date.html

 DATE & TITLE        OVERVIEW
January 10, 2013:MORGELLONS: A WORKING HYPOTHESIS – THYROID, OXYGEN, AMINO ACID & IRON DISRUPTION       A body of evidence, accumulated over a period of several years, reveals that the Morgellons condition is likely characterized by a host of serious physiological and metabolic imbalances.  These imbalances are caused by the disruption of a variety of major body processes including, as a minimum, the regulation of metabolism by the thyroid, potential liver enlargement, a decrease of oxygen in the circulatory system, the utilization of amino acids important to the body and the oxidation of iron. The impact of this degradation to human health can be concluded to be serious, debilitating and potentially lethal in the cumulative sense; the reports of those who suffer from the condition are in alignment with these conclusions.  This paper will summarize the body of work and chronology which leads to this more comprehensive hypothesis. (In process)
January 8,  2013: ENVIRONMENTAL FILAMENT:
INCORRECT REPORT    It is now appropriate to disclose the circumstances involving a laboratory report on an airborne filament sample that was paid for in the year of 1999.  This report was issued jointly by three separate companies and they shall remain anonymous at this time.  It is now appropriate to present this information as the conclusions of the report are undeniably false.
January 7,  2013: ENVIRONMENTAL FILAMENT : KERATIN ENCASEMENT

It can now  be established with a high degree of certainty that the external casing of the environmental filament samples are composed of keratin or a keratin-like material.  This supposition has been in place for a number of years by this  researcher; it can now be demonstrated to be the case by direct chemical and  spectroscopic means.
January 6,  2013: ENVIRONMENTAL FILAMENT PENETRATION    An improved method of penetration of the environmental (airborne) filament sample has been achieved. This
accomplishment provides a pathway to an increased understanding of the structure and contents of the fibers.  Numerous studies have been reported on the nature of this filament material over the years on this site. This material is the same type of material that was sent to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) over a decade ago.
January 1,  2013: MORGELLONS : INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY – CULTURE CONFIRMATION    An elderly, but wonderfully functional, Perkin Elmer 1320 infrared (IR) spectrophotometer has been acquired by the Carnicom Institute.  This class of instrument has been sought after for many years by this researcher and organization.  The value and purpose of an infrared spectrophotometer (along with other instruments as well) is that it can be used to gain insight into the molecular structure of organic compounds.
November 3,  2012: MORGELLONS : THE BREAKING OF BONDS AND THE REDUCTION OF IRON    Three methods that appear to interfere with the molecular bonding of the iron-dipeptide complex that is now understood to be characteristic of the “Morgellons” growth structure have been established and identified.  The iron-protein complex is believed to be of, or similar to, the “Rieske Protein” (iron-sulfur) form.
November 3,  2012:
AMINO ACIDS VERIFIED    The existence of certain amino acids, namely cysteine and histidine, as a dominant aspect of the “Morgellons” growth structure, appears to have been verified.  This finding, along with that previously recorded on the important role that iron plays from a compositional standpoint, may be a highly important window into the structural framework of the Morgellons condition.

“What’s New?”

We have a couple of exciting developments at Carnicom Institute! First, we have purchased an infrared spectrophotometer instrument to help assist the Institute in continuing our important studies. Second, we recently acquired office space which allows us much needed room to continue the research and testing needed for our studies and documentation for Clifford Carnicom’s papers.

What is an infrared spectophotometer?

The value and purpose of an infrared spectrophotometer (along with other instruments as well) is that it can be used to gain insight into the molecular structure of organic compounds.  This is a crucial need that has remained unfulfilled for many years in the biochemistry research that has taken place thus far.  It is not an overstatement to realize that years of work can equivalently be accomplished with greater certainty and insight in relative moments of time with the proper instrumentation and resources.  It is hoped that this equipment can be augmented or replaced with modern computer-based instrumentation at some point in the near future, however, the process of discovery at this important level can now begin.

The spectophotometer is one of the most funamental tools in biochemical anaylis that exists. It’s a useful tool in identifying functional groups of organic molecules, basic to all life.  This instrument identifies the principal components of these molecules, so it is very useful to gain insight into environmental and biological materials and samples.

Carnicom differentiates between the capabilities of this instrument versus the microscope.  “The microscope allows you to see something with your eyes; this instrument allows you to gain insight into the structure of something that you can’t see with your eyes. These molecules vibrate, and infrared makes them vibrate, and this instrument records the vibrations of molecules and translates it into a graph.”

New Facilities for Carnicom Institute

We are thrilled to announce that Carnicom Institute has an office and laboratory space which are outside of Clifford’s home!  It is a true wonder that all of Clifford’s research to date has been in his own home.  Our new space will provide him with the footing from which to expand, breathe and offer many new possibilities in what he is able to accomplish.  In his words, “For years we have needed a place; we have been constrained by our space.  It has been incredibly frustrating to me, the mismatch between the urgency of the work and the facilities and resources available to us. This will give us a footing to step forward from.”

WINDOWS ON THE RESEARCH

Morgellons: a Working Hypothesis

This brief article intends to serve as a basic introduction to Clifford Carnicom’s current paper which he began in January of this year; it remains in progress and approaches 100 pages. In this paper he covers three topics: the first (Phase One) is an explanation of the biochemical analyses he has performed on an oral filament which is characteristic of the Morgellons condition. The second (Phase Two) offers possible and/or probable health disruptions that are based upon these biochemical analyses; these disruptions are then compared to the observed and reported symptoms of the Morgellons condition. In the third part, now in progress, he is offering from a research perspective, mitigating strategies that may serve to balance health impacts given these disruptions.

Phase One: Through a recently acquired older infrared (IR) spectrophotometer, Carnicom has been able to make progress to uncover the molecular basis of the oral filament. This machine is able, through the use of infrared energy, to identify core organic structures of a biological filament sample. Within the infrared spectrum, the molecules vibrate in characteristic ways that biochemistry has labeled “functional groups.” A functional group is identified by its characteristic resonance when infrared energy is directed through it. He has been able, therefore, to identify many biochemical functional groups of the filament, such as amines (the basis for amino acids), carboxylic acids, phenols, aromatics, halogens, and others.

His findings using IR corroborates his prior work using chemical separation techniques, (e.g., chromatography), electrolysis, and visible light spectrometry in which he found the presence of iron and amino acids as core constituents of the biological filaments. It is important to understand that this filament growth logically uses these same substances for its own existence. The filament growth form is therefore expected to affect or interfere with iron and protein metabolic processes within the body. Iron is integral to the hemoglobin in the blood and its presence in the filament suggests the reduction of available oxygen to the body. As Carnicom explains, this is due to the condition of iron in the filament being in a highly oxidized state. In this state, the iron can no longer bind to the oxygen in hemoglobin. The significance of oxygen to all of the body’s systems cannot be overemphasized. Disruptions in the flow of oxygen can harm cells throughout the body, as, for example, has been demonstrated by Carnicom with the microscopic observation of red blood cells. Carnicom has also made special note of the role of histidine, an amino acid that appears to have been identified within the filament. Amino acids are the basis for proteins, the body’s builders. The research supports the very real possibility that the degradation of the red blood cells observed in more severe cases of Morgellons may be linked to the presence of both oxidized iron and histidine within the filament. Carnicom goes on further to state that “the existence of the iron problem alone, especially in combination with the bacterial or bacterial-like component that has also repeatedly been identified, goes a very long way in accounting for a large portion of the observed or reported health impacts from the Morgellons condition.” For detailed information about the significance of iron as an underlying factor of the Morgellon’s condition, please see Carnicom’s prior paper:

“Morgellons: A Thesis.”

http://www.carnicominstitute.org/articles/bio2011-6.htm

Likewise, the finding of amino acids, such as cysteine and histidine, in the filament has major implications for human health. From Carnicom’s abstract of the paper “Amino Acids Verified,” we read that “deficiencies or disturbances of these particular amino acids correlate highly with symptoms that appear to frequently exist with the condition, i.e., high oxidation levels and joint pains within the body.” Further conditions related to amino acid deficiency include: extended or chronic fatigue, gastro-intestinal imbalance, skin lesions, chronic decreased body temperature, and the diminished oxygen carrying capacity of the blood, among others.

Phase Two: In this phase, Carnicom examines the potential health impacts of the various functional groups which he has identified in the filament. He does this in the spirit of a researcher putting the pieces of a complex puzzle together. He invites us all to join him. He writes, “Infrared spectrometry alone cannot do this; additional resources, execution and smart thought will be required. The earlier this puzzle is solved in detail, the better we will all be for it. I can only ask you to join in the crusade.” He offers his own interpretations of the material, careful to stress that it is not medical advice, nor diagnosis, but offered here for research purposes only.

He begins by setting up side by side the health impacts associated with the Morgellons condition and the functional groups which he identified within the filament sample. In essence, Carnicom is traveling from both directions to find the meeting point in which an anticipated health effect from the presence of the functional group meets the actual health impact of the Morgellons condition. While he points out that there is not a one to one correspondence between the two (functional group/Morgellons symptom), “there are generalities to be made that may be very helpful in the interpretation of the plight that many find themselves within.”

In summary, the implications of Carnicom’s research on this paper are far-reaching, affecting the functions of many of the major systems of the body. For further explanations and examples of the processes which may be taking place within the body, we refer you to the paper itself:

Volunteer Focus

Gary Sundby:
Gary began volunteering with CI in June of 2011, and has been a steady and valued presence as a staff Associate Member. Gary is a technical member of our research team, and has completed several valuable projects for us. “Projects that I have completed for the Carnicom Institute include the repair of a centrifuge instrument, the repair of a Van de Graaff generator and building a digitally controlled heating unit for laboratory glass vessels. Projects that are in the making right now include the design and assembly of a piece of equipment I’m calling a Reflective Particulate Detector. This is a major project of relative high complexity that if successful will detect the presence of any reflective particulate in the atmospheric air. I’m also working on a custom pen holder for Carnicom’s Perkin Elmer IR spectrophotometer. The end results will be easily obtainable pens at a reduced cost as compared to buying stock replacement pens. And the final project I’m working on is learning the ins and outs of a publicly available environmental reports web site - http://www.intellusnmdata.com/
There appears to be numerous reports indicating contaminants (Aluminum, Barium, and many others) in air and water samples. But I want to fully understand this web site before any final conclusions are made.”

Pete Horner:
Pete began with CI earlier this year, bringing his much needed expertise in Informational Technology to CI. As far as his work, he writes, “We have been adding PDF versions of all research papers to the CI website. This allows visitors to the website to view the research article in PDF format and download the paper. Look for the links at the bottom of each page.
Over the next few months we will be adding all the interviews that Clifford has completed over the years. Both audio interviews, and video interviews will be placed on our resource page.”

Note: We are hoping to bring many valuable resources to you through our upcoming RESOURCE PAGE. This will be for internal Carnicom as well as external resources regarding human and environmental health. Look for announcements about this as we complete this page.

Cindy Barker:
“With a corporate background I had the pleasure to work with several high-ranking mentors.  Since I learned about geoengineering and Morgellons condition, Clifford Carnicom is my mentor.  The best way I can help solve these crimes against humanity and the natural world is to join Clifford in his 13-year long endeavor.

Clifford ensures that his research papers are delivered with the highest degree of accuracy.  His direction avoids sensationalized and false information.  His approach is a common sense method and his published research results reflect the integrity of the organization.  I align my efforts with Carnicom Institute to inform our communities about the dangers of geoengineering and Morgellons condition.

I joined Carnicom Institute in 2012 because proven scientific research and the use of reason are excellent ways to educate people.  My efforts through Carnicom Institute are more far reaching than I could ever accomplish individually.  Through Carnicom Institute, I work with a support network of like-minded people from all over the world.  We are all in this together.”

Carol Carnicom, Carnicom Institute Vice-President:
“My focus in life and one of my most important contributions to the Carnicom Institute is seeing and sharing what is still right, good, and beautiful in the world. I do this through photography. I have been doing this for most of my life, but there is an especially critical need for this type of vision in today’s world when so much of what we see and are exposed to is not good or beautiful. I share my photography of our beautiful planet to uplift people and as an inspiration to staff members to remain steadfast in achieving the goals of the Institute.”

Welcome to new Associates, Members, and Prospective Members:

Welcome to new Associates: Pete Horner, Gary Sunby, and Cindy Barker
Welcome to new Member: Peter Klein
Welcome new volunteers, i.e. prospective members: Kaylee Tejeda and Dan Cieri

Morgellons Research Project (MRP) & Institutional Review Board (IRB)

Planning and Progress

On May 18, 2013 a letter went out to all Morgellons Research Project (MRP) participants to inform them of the status of the research project in progress underway at Carnicom Institute.  CI is in the process of establishing an Institutional Review Board (IRB) in order to ensure that our study will be conducted under the highest ethical standards as outlined by the US Department of Health and Human Services.

An IRB is an independent ethics review committee. The number one priority of an IRB is to protect human subjects from physical or psychological harm. The IRB has the responsibility to provide oversight, approve and monitor the planned research, and require modifications as needed.

This protocol is standard practice for research studies which involve human subjects and CI wants to be sure that we meet this standard. We undertake this protocol with the guidance of several doctors who have graciously stepped forward to assist us with this process. When the IRB process is complete, the research will resume and we will contact you at that time. There may be changes made in the project as a result of the IRB process.

We are pleased to announce that progress is being made and we are on track for completion of the IRB process by the latter part of fall. We recruit individuals, outside of Carnicom Institute’s administrative staff, to provide ethical oversight by joining the IRB. Prime candidates for this role are those with a strong ethical stance with respect to public safety. If you are interested in serving on the IRB, please write to IRB@carnicominstitute.org, and we will be in touch with you promptly. Please note: a preliminary requirement for IRB members is to complete a National Institutes of Health (NIH) course which can be found on this link: http://phrp.nihtraining.com/users/login.php
CI Research Team Set to Expand

The Institute would like to expand our research team to include:

- Medical & health professionals
- Administrative assistants
- Biological science professionals
- Data analysts and statisticians
- Technical writers & reviewers
- Intrepid researchers who like to leave no stone unturned!

If you have professional skills and you would like to become involved with either the IRB or our research, please write to us at info@carnicominstitute.org.

Environmental Filament Project

Carnicom Institute was fortunate to be able to obtain long awaited Scanning Electron Images (SEM) of the original environmental filaments which were submitted to the EPA and that were repudiated by that same agency. Comparison of the fiber images with scale bars, firmly places these fibers in the nanometer range and justifies the use of the term nano-technology, which has long been suspected, but impossible to confirm without a high resolution microscope such as the SEM. Visible clusters of these fibers are a rare occurrence. CI seeks to obtain more of these environmental filaments for further analysis in the coming months. More information on collection and submission protocols can be found here:  http://www.carnicominstitute.org/html/filaments.html

This is how your donations help! A recently acquired digital microscope camera (CMOS) for our light microscope provides a clearer picture than we’ve ever had before. The color image below of an environmental filament sample is at a magnification of approximately 6,000x.  At this magnification, it is possible to detect objects down to approximately 0.5 microns (500 nanometers).

To Our Supporters and Friends

It is time to place our proverbial cards on the table, so to speak, and tell you about our needs simply to exist as an organization, much less to grow and accomplish what we see as our real task. As you may know, Clifford Carnicom was instrumental in initiating the work to identify the components of aerosols that are dispersed in our skies without our consent or knowledge. Since 1999, he has been a primary impetus behind the research, and often works alone. Almost five years ago he established Carnicom Institute to offer others the opportunity to join in the work. The Institute is entirely dependent upon public funding in order to develop and succeed, and our staff is all volunteer.

We have three basic needs in order to function successfully and to excel. The first is our basic operational expenses. In order to function as an organization, there are many operational supportive services and systems that we subscribe to, most of which cost money on a monthly basis. These services allow us to communicate and convene from across the country, to host the website, and to make our information available to you. We also rent office and lab space, a significant expense. This dedicated space is an absolute necessity for the work to continue. To cover this most basic level of need, we turn to you, our supporters to ask you to seriously consider contributing to the Institute on a monthly basis as a subscriber. As a subscriber your contribution of $10 per month (or more if you can afford it; please see the subscriber link on our home page for details), is a tremendous service. You provide funds that we can count on as we negotiate our monthly expenses. This small amount of money, barely enough for a sandwich and coffee, is a vital offering to this organization.

The second level of need concerns proper equipment to do our research. Clifford has “jury rigged” much of the equipment needed to date, and the details of how he has done so would make for an interesting article in itself. The Institute has been very fortunate to have acquired in 2012, thanks to our donors, a used infrared (IR) spectrophotometer, which has allowed us to extend our research much further. Though it is aged and requires special attention to function, Clifford has been able to accomplish much with it, as it is being used to reveal the molecular nature of the filaments he researchers. The health and environmental issues that we face are of such importance that they require and warrant the capabilities of a modern well-equipped laboratory. In particular, a modern IR spectrophotometer would be of untold benefit. We seek larger donations for these purposes and we hope to acquire grants, as well as willing donors who understand the urgent need for this research.

Finally, there is Clifford’s time. He is not independently wealthy, as some might imagine. He works for his livelihood and this means that the time available at the laboratory is very limited. Greater and more rapid progress can be made if Clifford is compensated at a modest level. This is the third level of our fundraising appeal. Clifford is one of the few engaged in such research; his work is original and it has been and remains freely available to the public. The Institute works to find answers for those suffering from the Morgellons condition, as well as for those eager to find out more about what is unleashed in the aerosols, how it is likely to affect us, and what we can do to help ourselves in the face of this reality.

Please, Dear Supporters, look into your hearts and see whether what we are doing is worthy of your monthly contribution as a subscriber. If you believe that it is, we invite you to support Carnicom Institute in this way. Your subscription would mean a great deal, as I hope you can see from this appeal. Please see this link in order to subscribe now. Thank you!

Carnicom Institute: “Morgellons” Condition DNA Successfully Isolated

What’s New?

Carnicom Institute (CI) is actively working toward the characterization of a DNA sample associated with the Morgellons condition. The genetic nature of an organism is a key to understanding a life form’s origin and role within biology. This understanding is significant as it will ultimately affect health. CI now has visible light, infra-red, and ultra-violet spectral ability.
DNA Isolated

DNA has been successfully isolated from cultures that have been developed. The samples are based upon the cross-domain bacteria isolation methods referred to previously. The tests have been repeated on numerous occasions with identical positive results…

Plus, This Pivotal 3-Part Paper Has Been Completed -   Morgellons : A Working Hypothesis Neural, Thyroid, Liver, Oxygen, Protein and Iron Disruption

This paper seeks to identify a host of organic compounds that are likely to comprise the core physical structure of biologically produced filaments characteristic of the Morgellons condition. A biological oral filament sample will be analyzed for the presence of candidate organic functional groups using the methods of infrared spectrophotometry. Potential health impacts from these same core structures are examined and compared to the observed , reported and documented symptoms (in part) of this same condition. Potential mitigating strategies, from a research perspective only, are discussed…Read more: http://www.carnicominstitute.org/articles/a_working_hypothesis_1.htm

Thank You to Polymerase Chain Reaction Equipment Donors

We want to thank all those who contributed to the acquisition of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) equipment for future use by Carnicom Institute.  There is a tremendous savings that is taking place by finding a PCR kit available. This instrument requires skilled assembly which will be done by staff member Gary Sundby. Acquiring this PCR kit represents a tremendous opportunity, thanks to your generous and timely response to the call for donations to purchase this needed piece of equipment. The PCR will open a pathway to genetic research by the Carnicom Institute.

If you are able, test the pH of your rainwater and report on the results.

The Demise of Rainwater by  Clifford E Carnicom
http://carnicominstitute.org/wp/the-demise-of-rainwater/

“The single most important chemical species in clouds and precipitation is the .. pH value.”

Paul Crutzen, Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry, 1995
Atmosphere, Climate and Change, Thomas Graedel & Paul J. Crutzen
Scientific American Library, 1997

An analysis of five rainfall samples collected over a period of six months and spanning three states in the western United States has been completed.  There are five conclusions that are forthcoming:
1. The rainfall samples studied portray a smorgasbord of contamination. The contaminants appear to be both complex and numerous in nature.

2. There does not appear to be effective or comprehensive monitoring or regulation of the state of air quality, and consequently, rainfall quality in the United States at this time.

3. The results of the current analysis, utilizing more capable equipment and methods, are highly consistent with those that originated from this researcher close to two decades ago.

4. All reasonable requests or demands by the citizenry for the investigation and addressing of this state of affairs over this same time period have been refused or denied.

5. The level of contamination that exists poses both a risk and a threat to health, agriculture, biology, and the welfare of the planet.

Let us now proceed with some of the details.

We can begin with the pH, i.e., the acid or alkaline nature of rainfall.  Biochemical reactions take place (or, for that matter, do not take place..) at a specific temperature and pH.  If the system or environment for that reaction is disturbed with respect to the acidity and temperature, then the reaction itself is interfered with.  If the conditions depart far enough from what is required, the reaction may simply not even take place at all.  Such is the risk of interference to the acid-base nature of rainfall, upon which all life on this planet depends.
