Cops in Oklahoma shot and wounded a barefoot gunman on Wednesday who wandered into a downtown courthouse plaza, opened fire, and later exchanged gunfire with police, wounding a deputy and a bystander.

Tulsa police don't know what prompted Andrew Joseph Dennehy, 23, to stroll into the plaza, clad in just jean shorts and a t-shirt, and begin firing shots into the air near a gazebo between the Tulsa County courthouse and a library at around 2:30 p.m.

Bystanders frantically ran as the shots rang out, and courthouse deputies quickly swarmed the plaza and exchanged fire with Dennehy after he aimed his weapon at them, the Tulsa World reported.

Dennehy was hit in the upper body, while a deputy was shot in both hands and both arms.

MONTESANO, Wash. — Grays Harbor County sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man who stabbed Superior Court Judge Dave Edwards and shot a sheriff’s deputy at the county courthouse in Montesano, Wash., Friday afternoon.

"I have an officer who was shot and a Superior Court judge who was stabbed at noon," Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott told The Seattle Times.

Grays Harbor Community Hospital said that both Edwards and the deputy were in satisfactory condition.

Scott said deputies are searching several neighborhoods for the suspect. He said it’s unclear why the man was in the courthouse.

"We don’t know why he was here. It doesn’t appear he was here on any official business," Scott said.

The possible suspect is Michael Thomas, said State Patrol Trooper Russ Winger. The trooper provided no age or address for Thomas, but described him as a white male with short sandy-colored hair, wearing a blue button-down shirt, black pants and possibly carrying a black briefcase and a handgun.

Alleged gunman held in Texas courthouse shooting

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) – A defendant in a family dispute was being held without bail on a murder charge after police say he fatally shot an elderly woman as she tried to run inside a Texas courthouse, setting off a shootout with law enforcement officers that briefly became a hostage situation.

Bartholomew Granger, 41, was also accused of wounding three other people, including a daughter authorities said he ran over with a pickup truck while he tried to escape. He was being held at a jail after being treated at a hospital following his arrest.

The woman killed, Minnie Ray Seabolt, 79, of Deweyville, Texas, appeared to be an innocent bystander, Jefferson County Sheriff Mitch Woods said. Granger's daughter remained hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said. The daughter's mother and the third person injured were treated at the hospital and released.

Granger was outside the Jefferson County Courthouse in Beaumont on Wednesday before the continuation of his trial, grabbed a gun from his truck and began shooting, authorities said. The woman was fatally struck as she tried to run into the courthouse, while Granger's daughter and another bystander fell to the ground.

Crawford County Courthouse in Van Buren, Ark.  1 dead, 1 wounded

On a Tuesday afternoon, one James Ray Palmer, 48, of Kibler, Arkansas, went on a shooting rampage that began on the second floor of the Crawford County Courthouse in Van Buren.  Despite firing at least 70 rounds, he only managed to lightly wound a secretary(Vickie Jones), before police shot him dead 12 minutes later at around 3:45 pm on the courthouse lawn.  He had on a two-tone gray/black trenchcoat with some kind of logo on the back.  See the video:

According to police, Palmer was armed with three semi-automatic handguns, a semi-automatic rifle and a tactical vest with webbing, allowing the gunman to carry additional ammunition. The weapons were hidden under a trench coat he was wearing.

The alleged motive was the suspect's unhappy divorce combined with recent loss of his job.  Deputies say his target was the judge who presided over his divorce and custody hearing back in 2001, though ironically the judge was out sick that day.
