Obama Kills Keystone XL Pipeline
18 January 2012
, by Tyler Durden (Zero Hedge)
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/obama-kills-keystone-xl-pipeline

Who needs actual jobs when you can have crony solar companies which go tits up in under 2 years at a cost to taxpayers of over half a bill.

From Bloomberg:

"The Obama administration will likely announce rejection of TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone XL pipeline later today or tomorrow, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The decision will probably come from the State Department, which has been charged with reviewing the project, and a joint statement will come from some of the larger unions and environmental groups in support of the decision, according to one of the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity before the announcement is made.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the administration would continue studying alternative routes for the pipeline from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast."

WaPo adds:

The Obama administration will announce this afternoon it is rejecting a Canadian firm’s application for a permit to build and operate a massive oil pipeline across the U.S.-Canada border, according to sources who have been briefed on the matter.

However the administration will allow TransCanada to reapply after it develops an alternate route through the sensitive habitat of Nebraska’s Sandhills.

Deputy Secretary of State William J. Burns will make the announcement, which comes in response to a congressionally-mandated deadline of Feb. 21 for action on the proposed Keystone pipeline.

Reapply... only to be shut down again.

Of course obama will reject anything that creates jobs or that may be good for the USA.

Obama only supports or signs things that abolishes our rights and or that gives him more power as a dictator.

Canada Pledges to Sell Oil to Asia After Obama Rejects Keystone Pipeline
19 January 2012
, by Theophilos Argitis and Jeremy Van Loon (Bloomberg)
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-01-19/canada-pledges-to-sell-oil-to-asia-after-obama-rejects-keystone-pipeline.html

Excerpt:

President Barack Obama’s decision yesterday to reject a permit for TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone XL oil pipeline may prompt Canada to turn to China for oil exports.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper, in a telephone call yesterday, told Obama “Canada will continue to work to diversify its energy exports,” according to details provided by Harper’s office.

Canadian Natural Resource Minister Joe Oliver said relying less on the U.S. would help strengthen the country’s “financial security.”

The “decision by the Obama administration underlines the importance of diversifying and expanding our markets, including the growing Asian market,” Oliver told reporters in Ottawa.

Currently, 99% of Canada’s crude exports go to the U.S., a figure that Harper wants to reduce in his bid to make Canada a “superpower” in global energy markets.

Canada accounts for more than 90% of all proven reserves outside the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, according to data compiled in the BP Statistical Review of World Energy.

Most of Canada’s crude is produced from oil-sands deposits in the landlocked province of Alberta, where output is expected to double over the next eight years, according to the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.

I am sure that if the oil sands production is not used in the United States, they will be used in other countries,” Fatih Birol, chief economist at the International Energy Agency, said in an interview before a speech at Imperial College in London today.

Canada determined to build Gateway pipeline – Canada ready to play rough over Alberta oil sands
26 January 2012
, by Bill Mann - Port Townsend, Wash. (MarketWatch)
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/canada-determined-to-build-gateway-pipeline-2012-01-26

Excerpt:

So watch out, U.S. and other anti-pipeline foes opposed to Northern Gateway — Canada is about to (uncharacteristically) start playing rougher. As hockey fans know, they’re usually pretty good at that.

And Canada’s political players don’t mind an occasional two-minute minor penalty for fighting as long as they win the overall game. (End of sports metaphors.)

Harper will be telling Chinese leaders in Beijing next month that Gateway is no pipe dream, and it’s going to be built.
