This picture is from John Hogue's 1986 book Nostradamus and the Millennium.  He doesn't mention 2012 at all...no surprise, the "date" in 1986 was still scheduled to be 2000.(5/5/2000 according to Hogue)  But, he does suggest that in the "Age of Aquarius" we will make contact with alien intelligence...(if you squint the picture looks like an alien.)

Not sure who the artist was, possibly Hogue himself...it looks a little like Alex Grey's style.

Interesting side note...Hogue's book came out the same year as Alan Moore's Watchmen.  Another story of aliens meeting man in the midst of nuclear fears...like 2010(the movie), which was in theaters in 1984.
