Obama signs Iran sanctions bill into law

US President Barack Obama has signed into law a major defence bill including tough new sanctions against Iran.

The law cuts off from the US financial system foreign firms that do business with Iran's central bank.

But Mr Obama stressed that he had concerns about parts of the legislation dealing with the handling of foreign terror suspects.

"The fact that I support this bill as a whole does not mean I agree with everything in it," Mr Obama said.

The president signed the law in Hawaii, where he is on holiday. The move comes at a times of heightened tension over the Iranian nuclear programme.

Western powers say Tehran is seeking to acquire a nuclear weapons capability, but Iran insists the programme is purely for energy and medical purposes.

In recent weeks the US has introduced sanctions against Iran's financial sector, although it has stopped short of targeting the central bank outright.
Tussle with Congress

President Obama had been cautious about harsher sanctions, fearing such a move could disrupt oil markets at a time of economic uncertainty, and alienate potential allies.

The bill, which was passed by wide majorities in both houses of Congress, gives the president the power to grant a six-month grace period to give oil markets time to factor them in.

The president's signature comes after months of wrangling between Congress and the White House over trying foreign terror suspects.

President Obama opposed provisions that would have eliminated the authority of the executive to use civilian courts for such cases.

He agreed to sign the bill after the provision was dropped.

The new law only requires military custody for suspects accused of planning attacks on the US or its coalition partners.

As if he/they hadn't planned all along to sign it today while no one is paying attention. There's no end to the sleaze and dirty tricks!

Hopefully he left that remark in a signing statement/ executive order.

Obama signed NDAA

Yet according to lesser evil voters, the only way someone who rightly opposes the treasonous provisions within the NDAA can avoid "wasting" his or her vote is to vote for an establishment candidate who (you guessed it) supports those provisions. Roll Eyes

Lesser-evil voting has destroyed this nation. It's as simple as that.

Agreed. It's destroyed my nation too.

On lesser-evil:

In a world of evil, there are only degrees of evil.  In a collectivist society, it all boils down to the lowest common denominator...

So!  Vote for Ron Paul!  He's not a lesser-evil, he's what we want!  At least the detention for American Citizens won't occur under him!  Nevada is a big Ron Paul State to where there are two campaign offices in NV.  However, GOP is saying Newt is the guy for Nevada.

Please help.  Pick out a Clark County precinct and send the brochure.  Just pay & they mail it.  It gets sent to the supervoters (targeted Republicans who actually vote).

btw -- does anyone believe what Obama said about "his administration?"  Like he has ever said what he meant before?  It can be a surer bet that he means there "will be" detention under his administration...  (he seems confused with the English language).

Am I missing something here?

It looks like I posted regarding this about the same time this thread was posted.  After I hit "Post" I noticed that someone else must have done it when I was making it.

ANYHOW, in my post there is this quote:

"The administration also pushed Congress to change a provision that would have denied U.S. citizens suspected of terrorism the right to trial and could have subjected them to indefinite detention. Lawmakers eventually dropped the military custody requirement for U.S. citizens or lawful U.S. residents."

So, what's up with this point?

Is it in there? Or not?  Because it seems like many here still think that provision is in there.  (I must admit, that because of the day it is - and they knew what they were doing with THAT pick!! - I haven't had the time to review it's final draft.)

http://www.newsfocus.org/us_police_state.htm
...

Recently uncovered government documents show that US FEMA detention camps have been put on 72 hour standby, waiting to spring to life at a moment's notice.

The plan even reveals a long denied government emergency operations base, called a DUMB facility, short for Deep Underground Military Base. It is a 564 acre Homeland Security center 64 miles west of Washington DC called Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC).

If you think this is all a bit unsettling, or too bizarre to be real, then you should take a good look at the recently unearthed document

http://www.newsfocus.org/FEMA_NCP.pdf

which came from a publicly accessed government procurement website, www.FedBizOpps.gov which details this secret plan.

This uncovered FEMA document could very well explain why the NDAA was amended to give the military authority to intervene in domestic law enforcement activities and detain US citizens indefinitely, usurping long standing Posse Comitatus laws in the process.

It offers a reason why the economy was engineered to collapse, to become the catalyst for the destabilization of the US government as we used to know it.

If so, this provides the mechanism for a global takeover by the ultra-rich Rothschild-Rockefeller central banking cartel, to bring about their new world order, a one world rule by the ultra-rich oligarchs. This is the culmination of the most treasonous plot this country ever knew, which began in 1913 with the enactment of the Federal Reserve system.

I still don't get this -- See two posts above please.

Ahhhhhhh...

Never-mind, this explains it:

Thanks for posting this AJ & Crew!

(Like, I've said, they have picked the time strategically for the signing of this bill, knowing that many people would not have the time to check into it further because of late Christmas on-goings, and The New Years holiday. -- Me for one.)
