On March 14, 2007, Intelligence Squared held a debate in New York City entitled Global Warming is Not a Crisis, moderated by Brian Lehrer. Crichton was on the for the motion side along with Richard Lindzen and Philip Stott against Gavin Schmidt, Richard Somerville, and Brenda Ekwurzel. Before the debate, the audience were largely on the Against the motion side at 57% vs 30% in favor of the for side, with a 12% undecided.[35] At the end of the debate, there was a notable shift in the audience vote at 46% vs 42% in favor of the for the motion side leaving the debate with the conclusion that Crichton's group won.[35] Schmidt later reflected on the debate in a RealClimate blog posting, conceding that his side's presentation was "pretty dull" and calling Crichton's debating skills "extremely polished."[36]

In the debate, although he admitted that man must have at some point contributed to global warming but not necessarily caused it, Crichton argued that most of the media and attention of the general public are being dedicated to the uncertain anthropogenic global warming scares instead of the more urgent issues like poverty. He also suggested that private jets be banned as they add more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere for the benefit of the few who could afford them.

Genetic research and legislative needs

While writing Next, Crichton concluded that laws covering genetic research desperately needed to be revised, and spoke to Congressional staff members about problems ahead. A Talk to Legislative Staffers Washington, D.C. September 14, 2006[37]

The television signal itself, he found, puts the viewer in this state of drugged-like oblivion. Emery writes: ``Television as a media consists of a constant visual signal of 50 half-frames per second. Our hypotheses regarding this essential nature of the medium itself are:
``1) The constant visual stimulus fixates the viewer and causes the habituation of response. The prefrontal and association areas of the cortex are effectively dominated by the signal, the screen.
 
``2) The left cortical hemisphere--the center of visual and analytical calculating processes--is effectively reduced in its functioning to tracking changing images on the screen.
 
``3) Therefore, provided, the viewer keeps looking, he is unlikely to reflect on what he is doing and what he is viewing. That is, he will be aware, but unaware of his awareness....

Looker is a 1981 science fiction film written and directed by Michael Crichton. It starred Albert Finney, Susan Dey, James Coburn and featured former NFL linebacker Tim Rossovich as the villain's main henchman.

The film is a suspense/science fiction piece which comments upon and satirizes media, advertising, TV's effects on the populace, and ridiculous standard of beauty.  Michael Crichton was supposed to follow Coma and the Great Train Robbery with a big screen adaptation of his novel Congo.  When he started doing the research into what it would take to do the special effects (in 1980s dollars and makeup effects) he found it was going to nearly impossible and cost prohibitive to recreate the apes of the story.  The project was abandoned and he moved onto this film.

I don't know why plastic surgery is even allowed other than to reconstruct a face from an accident/deformity. Of course, it is a lucrative business (don't kid yourself it's not). I think they should rather spend that money and time on finding out the root cause behind these decisions to alter yourself. And don't give me the bull that it's their choice. Psychology plays an enormous part in these decisions, not always aware by the decision-maker but rather the observers. Which is to say that the observers are the end "product" that gets the wish, and not the individual (peer pressure). The individual is there to accommodate the mentality of the status quo.

But I guess it's always easier to take the easiest option rather than to change the fabric of the society. It's easier to change the individual to "fit in" to a world that is unaware of its own actions, and may even have taken to liking said action.

It's clear how almost nobody sees the message behind this movie on YouTube's comment section. They're too focused on the actual pretty images to notice anything. Which may have been the point all along.

I've seen Coma and Andromeda Strain.  Both were excellent movies.  In particular, Coma, kinda "got to me."  I'm going to watch the others by Crichton.

It has been 5 years now since I have watched  TV.  Except, just recently I watched football.  It started out, we would block out the commercials, but then in typical trance, that went by the wayside.

Never again.  It isn't worth it.   For at least a week I felt like a weirdo.  I couldn't shake the impending doom, fear & insecurity inflicted by the subliminals, for a week or so.  I feel so sorry for those who look to the TV for their insight into the world and news (indeed, their reality).

The subliminally-induced primitive responses of sex & fear open the door to the mind-control programming.  The resulting and desired chaos creates a deteriorating civilization which can be easily-influenced & controlled...  They Will Rot In Hell With Their Evil!   (Evil = the misuse of spiritual power.)

Incidentally, the sunglasses in the movie They Live are called Hoffman lenses.  Hoffman mentions this in his book Secret Societies and Psychological Warfare (available on his website (http://revisionisthistorystore.blogspot.com/2010/03/michael-hoffmans-online-revisionist.html)) and asks whether these lenses were named after him, or whether there is another Hoffman decoding the occult in public.
