This can be moved later to Financial Crisis Forum. But I want to see articles regarding the increase of prostitution in the U.S.

Report: Backpage Sees 50 Percent Increase in Prostitution Ad Revenue
October 19, 2011 at 2:32 pm Jonah Spangenthal-Lee

While city and state officials were going after Backpage.com earlier this summer for its role in promoting juvenile sex trafficking, the company saw a 50 percent increase in revenue from “online prostitution advertising” over last year, according to a report from a classified advertising consulting group.

The report, from the Advanced Interactive Media Group, says Backpage.com made $2.1 million from online prostitution ads last August, a 50 percent increase over the $1.4 million the company made the same time last year.

According to AIMG, Backpage has seen an overall 33 percent spike in projected revenue from “escort and body-rub advertising” since Craigslist shut down its adult ad section last year.

The largest beneficiary of the Craigslist decision to eliminate adult services ads continues to be Backpage.com, which is now the leading U.S. online publisher of prostitution ads. Since September 2010, Backpage – owned by Village Voice Media — has generated more than $23.1 million in online revenue from escort and body-rub advertising. That’s a 33 percent increase over the $17.4 million projected by the AIM Group before Craigslist stopped publishing adult services ads.

Backpage’s revenue increase comes as Mayor Mike McGinn and a coalition of attorneys general—led by Washington AG Rob McKenna—have been hammering the company for making it easy for pimps to sell young men and (mostly) women into sexual slavery.

...

McKenna fired back at Backpage, saying “given the number of obviously illegal services advertised on Backpage.com, and the number of minors ensnared by traffickers using the site, we’re quite interested in learning how Backpage.com supports that claim.”

In a new study released exclusively to NEWSWEEK, “Comparing Sex Buyers With Men Who Don’t Buy Sex,” Farley provides some startling answers. Although the two groups share many attitudes about women and sex, they differ in significant ways illustrated by two quotes that serve as the report’s subtitle.

One man in the study explained why he likes to buy prostitutes: “You can have a good time with the servitude,” he said. A contrasting view was expressed by another man as the reason he doesn’t buy sex: “You’re supporting a system of degradation,” he said.

And yet buying sex is so pervasive that Farley’s team had a shockingly difficult time locating men who really don’t do it. The use of pornography, phone sex, lap dances, and other services has become so widespread that the researchers were forced to loosen their definition in order to assemble a 100-person control group.

“We had big, big trouble finding nonusers,” Farley says. “We finally had to settle on a definition of non-sex-buyers as men who have not been to a strip club more than two times in the past year, have not purchased a lap dance, have not used pornography more than one time in the last month, and have not purchased phone sex or the services of a sex worker, escort, erotic masseuse, or prostitute.”

Many experts believe the digital age has spawned an enormous increase in sexual exploitation; today anyone with access to the Internet can easily make a “date” through online postings, escort agencies, and other suppliers who cater to virtually any sexual predilection. The burgeoning demand has led to a dizzying proliferation of services so commonplace that many men don’t see erotic massages, strip clubs, or lap dances as forms of prostitution. “The more the commercial sex industry normalizes this behavior, the more of this behavior you get,” says Norma Ramos, executive director of the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women (CATW).

Increasing numbers in capital turning to prostitution as career choice
by Clare Hutchinson, South Wales Echo
Jun 20 2011

Men and women in Cardiff are increasingly turning to prostitution as a career choice, a study which lifts the lid on the capital’s sex industry has revealed.

The groundbreaking research has for the first time found the reason why hundreds of people in Cardiff choose to sell their bodies.

The findings dispel the myth of sex workers trapped in a dangerous trade by controlling pimps, financial insecurity and drug and alcohol abuse.

Researchers at Swansea University spent months tracking down almost 400 of what they call “off-street sex workers” – those plying their trade in brothels, escort agencies and over the internet in Cardiff.

They found:

- More than three-quarters of those questioned had qualifications including GCSEs, A-levels and even a law degree;

- The majority had come into the sex trade from so-called respectable careers – including one woman who had been a senior manager in a private sector business;

- None had been trafficked or coerced – with many quoting high wages, flexible working hours and job satisfaction as their reasons for going into the trade; and

- The majority were working independently by advertising on the internet, with some saying they were doing it “for fun”.

Jobs decrease, prostitution increases - April 25, 2011
Steve Lyston, Contributor

A 2001 study financed by the International Labour Organisation/International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (ILO-IPEC) found that children as young as 10 years old were actively engaged in prostitution, catering to tourists, strip clubs and massage parlours.

There is no question that economic difficulties and social pressure contribute to the prevalence of child prostitution.

The only area of true growth that we have seen in the past 22 years under both administrations is the increase in prostitution. ...

Costa Rica’s Sex-Tourism Is Growing
October 16, 2009

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica — The slumping global economy is having a stimulus effect on Costa Rica’s famous sex-tourism industry, as a growing number of unemployed women — from Colombia to the Dominican Republic — flock to San José to seek a living in the world’s oldest profession.

In popular prostitution hot spots such as the Hotel & Casino Del Rey and Key Largo, local prostitutes compete with an influx of foreign women from Nicaragua, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Venezuela and even Russia. The increase in numbers and variety of working women here has reaffirmed Costa Rica’s position as an international hub for prostitution, which is legal and regulated by the government since 1894.
...
But not everyone is happy about the increased competition, which, along with a contracting economy, has required some prostitutes to lower their prices by as much as 40 to 50 percent.

Government in Costa Rica Powerless to Fight Crime

The goverment in Costa Rica will is powerless to act against the problem of underage prostitution in rural areas, especially considering that police in these areas rarely have working vehicles and gasoline.

Prosecutors are outsiders in these communities and change frequently while being quite vulerable to local intimidation. There is also the problems of rampant narcotics trafficking, home invasions and armed robbery, which makes teenage hookers seem relatively insignificant.

Come accross the wrong person in an isolated area of Costa Rica are you are likey to become a statistic like Michael Dixon, Kim Paris, or David Gimelfarb.

Washington DC a sexual playground for pimps and johns: Exposing child prostitution rings in DC

Aisha Ali , DC Youth Issues Examiner
March 17, 2009

Busts of prostitution rings happen almost daily, believe it or not. Local media outlets report them, suggesting that child prostitution is an epidemic crisis of America family life.

Facts:

•The National Runaway Switchboard estimates there are between 1.3 and 2.8 million runaway, throwaway, and homeless youths in America.

•According to Ernie Allen, executive director of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC),
100,000 to 293,000 children have become sexual commodities.

•Nationally, 450,000 children run away from home each year. As many as 2.8 million youths live on the streets, a third of whom are lured into prostitution within 48 hours of leaving home, according to the National Runaway Switchboard. Statically, this means roughly 150,000 children are lured into prostitution each year.

•The U.S. Department of Justice Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section reports
12 as the average age of entry into pornography and prostitution in the U.S.

•In 2002, the Department of Justice estimated MART children at 1.7 million. Nearly a third of these youths were categorized as “endangered” from physical and sexual abuse and drugs. At some point or another, 27,300 of the third MART youths endangered, were classified as “missing” with a sexually-exploitative person while 14,900 had been or either came close to being sexually assaulted while a runaway.

The Family Prostitute

As the recession continues, more and more women are turning to the world's oldest profession to support their loved ones

By Michael Albo Thursday, Sep 2 2010
...
Women — many brand-new to the sex trade and acting as the sole support for their families — have chosen it because of economic hardship brought on by the worst recession since the Great Depression. While there's always been a solid group of sex workers who support their families in this way, many on the management side of the industry say they've never seen anything like the large numbers the business is currently attracting
...
"We've seen over the course of the last couple of years a massive flow of women from all around the country," says Marc Medoff, general manager of the Love Ranch. "It's their first time in the sexual-entertainment business and they're showing up here — literally on our doorstep sometimes — for the purpose of seeking work to support their families: their husbands, their children, their parents. It's a zillion-fold increase. When things started to get really bad, in the fall of '07, we started seeing things increase and there's been no let-up."

According to crime statistics, in the last three years the number of arrests for solicitation of prostitution has increased more than 25% in the Hub City. That includes both prostitutes and their customers. "It's pretty common around the central part of town, some the neighborhoods of the interstate and then some of the local hotels," Anderson explained.

The industrialisation of prostitution
April 2nd, 2010 |
...
Since the 1990s, prostitution in Spain has undergone what might be called a process of industrialisation, coinciding with the economic boom in Europe over the last 15 years and the worsening poverty in Eastern Europe, Africa, and Latin America that has driven millions to seek a new life abroad. Spanish entrepreneurs have forged links with international criminals to traffic women, in some cases buying and selling them at impromptu auctions.

70% Rise in German Sex Trafficking Due to Legal Prostitution?
by Amanda Kloer · May 25, 2010

Germany, which has long been touted as an example of how legalized and regulated prostitution can reduce violence and crime in the commercial sex industry, announced this week that human trafficking crimes have increased 70% in the last five years. The vast majority of this increase is women and girls trafficked into commercial sex. Does this bump mean that Germany may be the next country whose experiment in legal prostitution fails?

German officials are concerned about the significant increase in human trafficking cases over the past five years. In the past year alone, trafficking cases have risen by 11%. The victim population is especially disturbing, with at least 20% of victims being underage. Of those, 41 victims identified were under 14. Much of the trafficking involves women from Eastern Europe and African women and girls being brought into Germany and forced into prostitution, but at least a third of those arrested for trafficking crimes were German nationals. That means in several cases, Germans who know the law and know how to exploit it are using their knowledge to force women into prostitution.

Prostitution and brothels were legalized in Germany in 2002, in part to reduce sex trafficking, provide safer conditions, and remove some of the stigma from the industry.

Albanian Pimps Run Greece Prostitution

Posted by el greco ATHENS, Greece.

Prostitution, sometimes called the worlds oldest trade, is booming in Greece, and a lot of prostitutes aren't happy about it.

Researchers from the University of Pandios say at least 10,000 prostitutes work the streets of Athens, a city whose seamier districts house 500 brothels and attract more than a million people a year for sex.

What bothers many Greek prostitutes is that they no longer dominate the business.

According to the study, Albanian prostitutes, many of them minors, have inundated the market, offering visits called three-minute tingling thrills for half of what Greek prostitutes charge. And, researchers add, without practicing safe sex.

They're ruining our business, says a prostitute named Marilena. We should chase them away.

Instead of chasing the newcomers away, Greek prostitutes are themselves on the run. They say tough Albanian pimps use terror and brutality to chase them away from their corners.

They send 10 thugs to clobber and rape you if you don't give up your corner to their girls, says a Greek prostitute named Sophia, who claims it happened to her.

Albanian men are raiding their own country

Most Albanian prostitutes operate from seedy hotels, reportedly servicing numerous customers an hour at 12 a visit.

Greek authorities say the surge in prostitution is the result of Albanias unrest. Desperate refugees say they resorted to prostitution after losing everything when several pyramid schemes collapsed, plunging the country into anarchy. A general election there is aimed at restoring order.

But the university study suggests that most Albanians on the streets were forced there by pimps cashing in on the crisis.

Albanian men are raiding their own country, says Professor Gregory Lozos, a sociologist at the university. Whatever they find, girls or boys, they bring to Greece.

Recession, depression, whatever term suits the bill will definelty cause an increase in prostitution.
There was a recession back in the 70's (Vietnam War hangover). Two woman I knew were on the bash, both had been deserted by their hubbys and raising kids alone. Good woman, not the run of mill that comes to mind,,Ya, judge them , no way. they had to feed their kids and as much as they didn't get off on selling themselves their kids were eating and with a home. Poverty breeds desperation.
I'll tell ya my opinion, whatever it takes to keep your kids alive.

During the late 1920s and early 30s in Germany when they were having their Depression couples would put on sex shows in their homes for visiting tourists as a way to earn money (think webcams nowadays). This is documented in the Canadian documentary "Sin Cities" which Alan Watt recommends on his web site. It is available on Netflix streaming.

Prostitution 'increases' in India Monday, 3 July 2006
By Upasana Bhat
BBC News, Delhi

The number of prostitutes in India has risen by 50% in less than a decade, according to a new survey.
Two million sex workers in 1997 had risen to three million by 2003-04, the government-commissioned study said.

Many prostitutes are said to be underage, entering the sex trade between the ages of 12 and 15.

The study was conducted by an NGO which interviewed 9,500 prostitutes in 31 states and federal territories across the country over two years.

As a comment - the legalization / relaxation of prostitution has allowed a great increase in international human trafficking...

Unfortunately this is NOT what happens:

“Just the tip of the iceberg -- there's four more houses of them,” Ronald Caldwell said.

Federal agents wouldn’t comment on whether they're looking at other houses in that neighborhood, but said new victims are being moved in and out of Charlotte every week.

Martinez, who was apparently in the country illegally, will make a first appearance in federal court on Thursday

Later, investigators discovered that Guzman-Martinez, a Mexico native, was in the country illegally, for which he was arrested.

Though the number of women who worked for Guzman-Martinez is unclear, one neighbor told WBTV that it was regular to see a lot of women and cars come and go from the house.

“Filemon Guzman-Martinez gets $10 for every prostitution customer serviced and the prostitute gets $15,” Peachy wrote.

The owner of the home faces no charges in connection to Guzman-Martinez’s arrest, according to WBTV.

SPAIN - Barcelona Police Save Women From Forced Prostitution

"A police raid in Barcelona has resulted in the arrest of 39 suspected Chinese mafia members, and the release of 30 young Chinese women who were allegedly forced into prostitution."
...
In recent years, the Chinese mafia has forced out competition from other organized crime syndicates, and has nearly cornered the market in prostitution in at least one upscale Barcelona district. They have managed to do this by forcing young women into prostitution and charging below-market rates, according to local officials.
...
The rescued women have been placed in special assistance centers run by a nongovernmental organization. From there some have left to stay with friends in Barcelona, but have been asked to stay close to participate in the prosecution of the suspects.

In addition to forced prostitution, the Chinese mafia was also heavily involved in document forgery and trafficking humans, drugs, and weapons. Authorities say that Barcelona was a hub for human trafficking and from there, people were sent to the United States, Australia, and Canada. Often the victims were held in Barcelona while forged documents were prepared for their travel.

Police say that documents confiscated in the raids included passports from multiple countries. The passports are said to be "perfect" in quality and very dangerous. High-grade professional equipment was used to create them.

Teenage daughter sold in part-exchange for used car was 'kept chained in shed and used as a sex slave by French travellers'
By Ian Sparks 17th November 2010

A couple 'traded in' their daughter for a used car to another family who used her as a domestic slave for three years, a court in France heard today.

The 23-year-old woman was sold for £600 'part-exchange' for a second-hand hatchback, then subjected to sexual and physical abuse between 2003 to 2006 at a travellers' camp outside Paris, it is alleged.

The parents are among eight men and six women appearing before judges in Melun charged with human trafficking and acts of rape, barbarism and torture.

The daughter, named only as Sabrina, was sold to Franck Franoux, 58, and his partner Florence Carrasco, 56, in return for the car, then made to live chained up in a squalid shed.

She was burned with an iron and cigarette ends, made to look after their seven children, beaten with iron bars and sticks and hired out for sex to other men.

When she finally fell critically ill, she was dumped outside a Paris hospital, with no teeth left and weighing less than six stone, the court was told.

A police source told France's Le Post online newspaper: 'She was in a deplorable physical and psychological state.

'She needed reconstructive operations on her nose and ears, which had been mutilated.

"It took her a year to recover from her ordeal and she will bear the physical and mental scars all her life.'

Comment:

The above atrocities are alive and well in the UK. My son committed suicide at 33 yrs to end many years of abuse. His torturer still deals in drugs despite my pleas to the Home office and a so called police complaints "enquiry". The torturer has three suicides to his score by association, over the last two decades or so. I and my family still have massive grief made worse by having this animal thing still causing problems in the community. I for one would welcome a Military Junta here in the UK with a zero tolerance to clear up this 'liberal' mess and and restore true democracy out of the EU, after rooting out the political corruption that is the cause of the deplorable state of our country.

Unfortunately, she was subjected to sexual and physical abuses for three years that included hiring out for sex to other men, it was reported here last Wednesday.

The buyer of the 23-year-old woman used her as a domestic slave, a court heard. It is alleged that the woman was sold for 600 pounds “part-exchange” for a second-hand car, then subjected to sexual and physical abuse between 2003 and 2006 somewhere at Melun a travellers’ camp , outside Paris.

The victim’s parents were among eight men and six women appearing before judges at the court in Melun town in Ile-de-France region charged with human trafficking and acts of rape, barbarism and torture.

Sabrina, was sold to Franck Franoux, 58, and his partner Florence Carrasco, 56, in return for the car, then made to live chained up in a filthy shed.

She was burned with iron and cigarette ends, made to look after their seven children, beaten with iron bars and sticks and hired out for sex to other men, the report said.

When Sabrina finally fell critically ill, she was dumped outside a Paris hospital, with no teeth left and weighing about 40 kg, the court was told.

“She was in a deplorable physical and psychological state,” a police source told .“It took her a year to recover from her ordeal and she will bear the physical and mental scars all her life.”

According to the paper, police said she was treated worse than an animal, with beatings, sexual abuse and scraps of food being tossed on the ground for her to eat.

The defendants face between two and 15 years in prison for the offences. The trial is set to last until December 17.

Franck Franoux and Florence Carrasco, central couple of the twelve trials of torturers Sabrina, kidnapped, raped and enslaved in a camp for three years, were both sentenced Wednesday to 30 years imprisonment by the Assize Court of the Seine-et-Marne .

The life imprisonment was requested Friday by the General Counsel Edmond Stenger against the couple who made their slave Sabrina and drudge between 2003 and 2006 in the camp of caravans Wood Claye-Souilly flowered on the banks of the RN 3.

Sabrinas parents, Daniel and Denise, they have been respectively sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and 8 years in prison for having sold including their daughter in exchange for a discount on the purchase of a cart.

A sentence of 18 to 20 years of imprisonment had been demanded against the father, held "fully responsible" and a sentence of 6 to 8 years imprisonment was required against the mother, whose decision was considered a little less

In his indictment, Edmond Stenger spoke of "Nazi methods"; in a ";death camp";.

Victims "no longer existed. No name or a false name, a badge and a badge only," he had launched.

The attorney general had also denounced many failures of hospitals, social services or law enforcement; that would not apprehended the seriousness of the facts, which would havefreed victims earlier.

At the opening of the hearing Tuesday morning, the president Anny Dauvillaire gave a final speech to the defendants. Ms. Carrasco has asked for forgiveness;

Sabrina, hoping she will recover well, and wishing him lots of luck in his life.

Franck Franoux explained that;if the police did what was necessary, Sabrina would not be in this state;

After apologizing to have entered the two other victims, ;Jean-Luc and Mauritius, Mr. Franoux a juror had never burned Sabrina.

Sabrina was not the only victim in this camp. Jean-Luc, 56, has been a prisoner for one year. Maurice, 58, has suffered the same ordeal that the young woman for three years

Welcome to The Jungle: Child Sex Slaves in France *Updated*
Published by CaSundara on September 30, 2009 in Opinions

As The Jungle is finally demolished, we learn those living there were selling children, as young as nine, to be used as sex-slaves. What won’t people do to get into the UK?

Last week saw the long-awaited destruction of an immigration camp known as “The Jungle.”

The rat-infested camp was home to hundreds of illegal immigrants, all waiting to pay the fee of around £3,000 each to be smuggled into the UK, from their make-shift home in Calais, France. Until recently, the French government had been openly handing out leaflets explaining how to claim asylum in the UK, and how the UK benefits systems works – thus, encouraging the influx.

Recently, after much pleading, an agreement was made with the UK that this active encouragement would to come to and end, and the camp would be destroyed. Of course, the real reason the French finally acted may be because the residents of Calais had also complained, saying the camp was the cause of rising crime rates in the area, and would devalue their properties.

...
The number of men arrested in the raid totalled nearly three hundred, most of whom were Afghans. Nearly all have since been released on the grounds of – yes, you’ve guessed it – Human Rights. What a surprise…
...

Those found living in The Jungle were mainly male, but there were also women and children. Toddlers as young as three had been discovered, and it’s recently come to the attention of French authorities that children as young as nine are being sold to truck-drivers, as sex slaves. It is claimed that while these truck-drivers are abusing the poor children in their cabs, illegal immigrants are sneaking into their lorries and making their way, across the channel, to the UK
...
If this camp had been closed years ago, when it first appeared, and the reasons immigrants headed this way had been addressed and resolved by the government, the UK would have tens of thousands less illegal immigrants to deal with, and these poor, innocent children would be safely in the hands of their parents, instead of in the clutches of twisted paedophiles.
...

*UPDATE* – The vast majority of those arrested in Calais have been or are about to be flown back to Afghanistan, at the cost of the British and the French. They will also be handed a gift of £1,900 EACH to take with them, along with the promise of free training once home. Of course, there’s nothing to stop them returning to France again, if they’re that desperate and determined to reach the UK. And if selling their children as sex slaves doesn’t prove these people are desperate, then I don’t know what would…

The bottom line is when you become desperate enough you'll pretty much do just about anything. But it's such a weird situation. Minimum wage is so low that a girl has to work a whole week 40hrs, to make the same money she would make in 1-2 hrs turning tricks. So unless she's educated and can luck out and find a good job, then she's screwed. And a lot of those ones end up deciding to take the road of working less hours unfortunately. Personally even though it's easier to just pay for it, I just couldn't do it. So degrading, not to mention what you could catch. I'd rather take a girl on a date and if there's anything more, bonus..., if not and I only get some friendly conversation, that's fine too. At least I can go home and look myself in the mirror.

That policy has arguably failed on all counts.

Sex trafficking in Germany has grown since prostitution and brothels were legalized. And advocacy groups have claimed that the law has done little to make the industry safer or reduce stigma. In fact, this law has seemed so unpopular with everyone on all sides of the prostitution debate, that I wonder how on earth it got passed in the first place.

There are a number of reasons human trafficking could be growing in Germany other than the legalization of prostitution.
...
The global economic crisis could be driving more traffickers to operate in Germany as opposed to their less-wealthy home countries.

Demand for commercial sex in Germany could be outstripping supply in a major way, with traffickers making up the difference. All of these, as well as other reasons, probably affect amount of human trafficking in Germany.

But what we are beginning to see is a pattern of human trafficking, violence against women, and exploitation in countries which have legalized prostitution.

Despite legal prostitution in Australia, 90% of the commercial sex industry in Australia operates illegally, including sex trafficking.

The Netherlands has been steadily closing more and more of their red light districts since they legalized prostitution in 2000, citing increased sex trafficking as a reason. And now Germany, despite legalized brothels, is seeing a huge increase in sex trafficking.

Is this enough evidence to state categorically that legalizing prostitution causes sex trafficking? No. But I hope it's enough to give serious pause to the people who have claimed legalization is the answer to reducing sex trafficking and violence in the industry. Because the people of Australia, the Netherlands, and now Germany might have to disagree.

Myths and Facts about Nevada Legal Prostitution
...

What does legalization of prostitution mean?
Legal prostitution is state-sponsored prostitution. Legal prostitution means that the state of Nevada legally permits the buying and selling of women in prostitution. Nevada’s counties collect taxes from the sales of women to men who buy them (johns or tricks).

In Nevada legal prostitution, the counties are the pimps, collecting taxes. In legal prostitution the john is welcomed as a legitimate consumer. Since we know that prostitution always harms women, the legalized buying and selling women is in effect the promotion of and profiting from women’s poverty, childhood sexual abuse, sexual harassment and sexual exploitation.
...
MYTH: Legal prostitution is a progressive solution to an age-old problem.

FACT: A progressive law promotes women’s equality, not women’s prostitution. The Netherlands and Germany are considering repealing legal prostitution because of the crime, trafficking, and sexual violence in both legal and illegal prostitution. A 1999 Swedish law describes prostitution as a human rights violation against women.

Understanding the massive social and legal power difference in the prostitution transaction, Sweden arrests
johns but not the women in prostitution. Trafficking and prostitution have plummeted in Sweden since the law was introduced. If you don’t want to get paid for having sex with 5-10 smelly strangers a day that pimps send your way, why do you think anyone else does?

Women in prostitution do not want to be in the brothels: 81% of the women in the Nevada legal brothels urgently want to escape prostitution.

Under human law and common law the concept of prostitution is harmless. One can safely assume that, as a free market Libertarian, Dr Paul would be in favor of the legalizing prostitution. Of course the legal, philosophical and economic causes and implications of prostitution will be abandoned by the zealots on the forum and unfortunately this thread is destined to erode into a Sodom and Gomorrah scripture post-a-thon.

1699 - Regulation of Prostitution in Colonial America

Prostitution was not an offense in either English or American common law, and, prior to World War I, although being a prostitute was not an offense, prostitution was generally regulated as a specific sort of vagrancy. When prostitutes were punished as sexual deviants, it was under laws against adultery or fornication or for being 'common nightwalkers'--women who strolled the streets at night for immoral purposes.

From very early times, for example, nightwalking was an offense in Massachusetts. The law against nightwalking in that state, which testifies to the presence of prostitutes, was enacted in the colonial assembly of 1699 and reenacted by the state legislature in 1787. It was not until 1917 in Massachusetts, however, that a prostitute could be punished for prostitution."

1760s - 1780s - Prostitution Flourishes in Colonial New York

"Colonial New York was preeminently a seaport, and prostitution flourished in the streets and taverns close to the docks... New York, remarked John Watt in the 1760s, was 'the worst School for Youth of any of his Majesty's Dominions, Ignorance, Vanity, Dress, and Dissipation, being the reigning Characteristics of their insipid Lives.' For much of the eighteenth century, 'courtesans' promenaded along the Battery after nightfall. On the eve of the Revolution, over 500 'ladies of pleasure [kept] lodgings contiguous within the consecrated liberties of St. Paul's [Chapel].' A few blocks north, at the entrance to King's College (later Columbia University), Robert M'Robert claimed that dozens of prostitutes provided 'a temptation to the youth that have occasion to pass so often that way.'"

Yes, What I have found interesting so far, is a derth of articles regarding increased prostitution activity in the U.S.
While prostitution seems to have increased worldwide.

But human sex traffiking (White Slavery) is documented to be on the increase in the U.S and worldwide. This increase has been seen to be facilitated by relaxed prostitution laws. So for legal prostitutes life maybe better but less work is coming their way due to illegal sex trade taking away customers with undercut pricing.

Along with this is a great increase in child traffiking and child sex slavery.

Is this purely economic? I don't think so, but it does seem to be part of the NWO global economic policies and the busting of national borders.

It could be argued that akin to the illegal narcotics trade, when prostitution is prohibited by law it paves the way for sex trafficking. However, I think that this is an over simplification of a very complex issue.

There is some truth to the claim that prohibition of any item, substance, or behavior bestows a taboo attraction on the very thing you are trying to eliminate and thus opens the door for an illicit trade in those taboos. The Elite have used this as a system of profit for millennia. The fact that prostitution was first recorded [in our presently accepted history] as a "service" provided in the religious temples shows how the NWO has always used "White Slavery" in one form or another.
