As a kid I remember a big government sponsored ad campaign in the 80s about drinking more water.  I was just wondering if anyone knows if the timing coincided or immediately followed the push for fluoridation.

Probably, but we've had fluoridation for a while. Man, I lost a lot of brain cells from that I'm sure.

The push started in earnest in the 1980s however, I remember the commercials... showing a kid drawing a big glass of water from the kitchen tap, sparkling music behind it as he guzzles the whole glass finishing with a smile... Denver didn't begin fluoridation until 1983.. I hate these globalist eugenicist pukes!
