Frank Marshall Davis (December 31, 1905, Arkansas City, Kansas; July 26, 1987, Honolulu, Hawaii) was an American journalist, poet and political and labor movement activist. In 1950 he was investigated by the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) for comments he made in columns written for the newspaper Honolulu Record, as well as other activities that the HUAC alleged were connected to the Communist Party USA.[1]Contents

[edit]
Early life

Davis’s parents divorced when he was one year old. In 1911, when he was five, a group of white third-graders who had heard about the lynching of black people tried to lynch Davis and nearly hanged him.[2]

Beginning at age 17, he was educated at Friends University (1923) and later at Kansas State Agricultural College (now Kansas State University) (1924-27, 1929) without taking a degree. When Davis entered Kansas State, there were 25 other African-American students enrolled there.[3] He studied industrial journalism. He began to write poems as the result of a class assignment and was encouraged to continue writing poetry by an English literature instructor.[3] Frank pledged Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity in 1925.

[edit]
1920s

In 1927, Davis moved to Chicago, where he worked variously for the Chicago Evening Bulletin, the Chicago Whip and the Gary American, all African-American newspapers.[4][5] He also wrote free-lance articles and short stories for African-American magazines. It was also during this time that Davis began a serious effort to write poetry, including his first long poem, entitled Chicago’s Congo, Sonata for an Orchestra.

[edit]
1930s

In 1931, he moved to Atlanta to become an editor of a semiweekly paper. Davis transformed the Atlanta World[6] into a daily newspaper within two years of taking the job as the paper's managing editor in 1931. Under Davis's leadership the Atlanta Daily World became the nation's first successful black daily.

In the pages of the paper, Davis articulated an agenda of social realism, which included appeals for racial justice in politics and economics, as well as legal justice. He championed black activism, especially to compensate for social ills not remedied by the larger white society. He warned against blacks accepting the Depression-era remedies being pushed by communists.[7]

He continued to write and publish poems, which came to the attention of Frances Norton Manning, who introduced Davis to Norman Forge. Forge's Black Cat Press brought out Davis's first book, Black Man's Verse, in the summer of 1935.

In 1935, Davis moved back to Chicago to take the position of managing editor of the Associated Negro Press[8], a news service for black newspapers, which had begun in 1919. Eventually, Davis was named executive editor for the ANP. He held the position until 1947.

During the Depression, Davis participated in the federal Works Progress Administration Writers' Project. In 1937, he received a Julius Rosenwald Fellowship.[9]

While in Chicago, Davis also started a photography club, worked for numerous political parties, and participated in the League of American Writers. With the encouragement of authors such as Richard Wright and Margaret Walker, Davis published in 1948 his most ambitious collection of poems, entitled 47th Street: Poems, which chronicles the varied life on Chicago's South Side.

[edit]
1940s

Davis used his newspaper platform to call for integration of the sports world, and he began to engage himself with community organizing efforts, starting a Chicago labor newspaper, The Star, toward the end of World War II. In 1945, he taught one of the first jazz history courses in the United States, at the Abraham Lincoln School[10] in Chicago.

In 1948, Davis and his second wife, who had married in 1946, moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, at the suggestion of Davis’s friend Paul Robeson. There, Davis operated a small wholesale paper business, Oahu Papers, which mysteriously burned to the ground in March 1951. In 1959, he started another similar firm, the Paradise Paper Company.

He also wrote a weekly column, styled “Frank-ly Speaking,” for the Honolulu Record, a labor paper published by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), headed by Harry Bridges. The paper had been founded in 1948 by Koji Ariyoshi. As editor, Arioyshi lambasted labor conditions for the working class, advocated the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy and targeted other social inequalities in the islands. In 1958, Ariyoshi was forced to close his newspaper due to lack of funds.

Davis’s early columns covered labor issues, but he broadened his scope to write about cultural and political issues, especially racism. He also included the history of blues and jazz in his columns.

Because he published little poetry between 1948 and his final volume, Awakening, and Other Poems, published in 1978, Davis’s reputation as a poet diminished, but he was rediscovered during the Black Arts Movement in the 1960s.

[edit]
Later years

Davis also authored a soft-core pornographic novel, which was published in 1968 under a pseudonym. The book, titled Sex Rebel: Black (Memoirs of a Gash Gourmet), was written under the pseudonym “Bob Greene,”[11] and was published by William Hamling's Greenleaf Publishing Company.

Davis visited Howard University in Washington, D.C., to give a poetry reading in 1973, marking the first time he had seen the U.S. mainland in 25 years. His work began to appear in anthologies. Livin' the Blues: Memories of a Black Journalist and Poet (1992), Black Moods: Collected Poems (2002), and Writings of Frank Marshall Davis: A Voice of the Black Press (2007) were published posthumously.

[edit]
Analysis of his literary work

Davis said he was captivated early on by "the new revolutionary style called free verse. Sonnets and, in fact, all rhyme held little interest for" him.[3] Davis claimed his "greatest single influence" was the poetry of Carl Sandburg "because of his hard, muscular poetry."[3]

During the middle of the twentieth century, Davis set forth a radical vision that challenged the status quo. His commentary on race relations, music, literature, and American culture was precise, impassioned, and engaged. At the height of World War II, Davis questioned the nature of America’s potential postwar relations and what they meant for African Americans and the nation. His work challenged the usefulness of race as a social construct, and he eventually disavowed the idea of race altogether.

In his reviews on music, he argued that blues and jazz were responses to social conditions and served as weapons of racial integration. His book reviews complemented his radical vision by commenting on how literature reshapes one’s understanding of the world. Even his travel writings on Hawaii called for cultural pluralism and tolerance for racial and economic difference.

[edit]
Legacy of political activism

Kathryn Waddell Takara has made this evaluation of Davis's political legacy.

"No significant African American community existed in Hawai`i to provide Davis with emotional and moral support, and an expanded audience and market for his writing. Also, because he was still concerned with the issues of freedom, racism, and equality, he lacked widespread multi cultural support.

One can only imagine Davis's frustrations at his inability to become a successful writer in Hawaii after his promising beginnings in Atlanta and Chicago. He rarely complained, but he must have felt incomplete if not bitter when he found dignity but not freedom to develop his potential and lead the distinguished life to which he was accustomed. Considering the controversial subject matter of Davis' writing, it is little wonder that some whites looked askance at his presence in the islands. He worked quietly, he wrote even when he no longer published his writings, and he talked with those who came to visit him--always seeking to present the truth of his vision, confident that social justice and human dignity would finally prevail. Indeed, despite his radical rhetoric, Davis was optimistic that good relations between ethnic groups could and would lead to a better world.

It can be argued that Davis escaped defeat like a trickster, playing dead only to arise later and win the race, although the politics of defeat were all around him. If society seemed to defeat him by denying him financial rewards, publication, and status, he continued to write prolifically. He stood by his principle that the only way to achieve social equality was to acknowledge and discuss publicly the racial and ethnic dynamics in all their complexity situated in an unjust society. He provided a bold, defiant model for writers to hold onto their convictions and articulate them."[12]

[edit]
Personal life

In 1946, Davis married Helen Canfield, a white Chicago socialite, who was 19 years his junior. The couple divorced in 1970, and Canfield Davis herself died in May 1998 in Honolulu.[13] The couple had four daughters named Lynn, Beth, Jeanne and Jill and a son named Mark.

At one point during a particularly difficult time in their marriage, Davis wrote a poem, entitled "To Helen", in which he attempted to re-earn her love. The poem reads in part:
I shall make you part of me,
My darling,
Fundamental as heart
Primary as mind
And to you I shall become
As the blood in your veins.

Davis died in 1987, in Honolulu, of a heart attack, at the age of 81.

[edit]
Davis and Barack Obama

In his memoir Dreams from My Father, Barack Obama wrote about "Frank", a friend of his grandfather's. "Frank" told Obama that he and Stanley (Obama's maternal grandfather) both had grown up only 50 miles apart, near Wichita, although they did not meet until Hawaii. He described the way race relations were back then, including Jim Crow, and his view that there had been little progress since then. As Obama remembered, "It made me smile, thinking back on Frank and his old Black Power, dashiki self. In some ways he was as incurable as my mother, as certain in his faith, living in the same sixties time warp that Hawaii had created."[14] Obama also remembered Frank later in life when he took a job in South Chicago as a community organizer when he took some time one day and visited the areas where Frank had lived and wrote in his book, "I imagined Frank in a baggy suit and wide lapels, standing in front of the old Regal Theatre, waiting to see Duke or Ella emerge from a gig." [15]

Gerald Horne, a contributing editor of Political Affairs magazine, claimed that "Frank" was Davis, and that he was a "decisive influence" in helping Obama to find his present identity as an African-American.[16] Claims that Davis was a political influence on Obama were made in the anti-Obama book The Obama Nation.[17] A rebuttal to The Obama Nation released by Obama's presidential campaign, titled Unfit for Publication, confirms that "Frank" was, in fact, Frank Marshall Davis, but disputes claims made about the nature of their relationship.[18]

OBAMA'S REAL FATHER: ONLY FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS CONNECTS ALL THE DOTS
http://astuteblogger.blogspot.com/2008/09/obamas-real-father-connecting-dots.html

FROM LEFT TO RIGHT (ABOVE): BARACK SENIOR, BARACK JUNIOR, AND FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS

QUESTIONS & POSSIBLE ANSWERS...

Why doesn't Obama Junior look anything like Obama Senior?
OBAMA JUNIOR LOOKS MORE LIKE FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS THAN ANYONE IN THE DUNHAM FAMILY OR THE OBAMA CLAN.
See MORE here and here.
I have several bi-racial friends/couples; ALL of their kids resemble a parent. Obama resembles Davis, not Dunham or Obama.]
How did the Hawaiian/Indonesian Obama JUNIOR - whose family had connections to Kansas and Kenya - REALLY end up in Chicago, of all places?
FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS WAS FROM CHICAGO AND HAD DEEP AND IMPORTANT CONNECTIONS TO THE LEFT IN CHICAGO. MAYBE THESE CONNECTIONS WERE THE REAL CONNECTIONS OBAMA USED IN CHICAGO.
Why did Obama's mother REALLY FEEL it was okay to leave him in Hawaii?
PERHAPS STANLEY ANNE DUNHAM OBAMA SOETORO FELT IT WAS OKAY TO LEAVE BARACK JUNIOR IN HAWAII BECAUSE SHE KNEW BARACK JUNIOR REAL FATHER WOULD BE THERE TO LOOK OUT FOR HIM.
Why did Stanley Dunham - the grandfather - take Barack junior to visit with Frank Davis Marshall's all the time?
PERHAPS BECAUSE HE ALSO KNEW THAT FRANK WAS BARACK'S REAL FATHER.
From whom did Barack Junior really INHERIT his literary skills?

PERHAPS FROM HIS REAL FATHER - THE AUTHOR AND POET FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS.

FACT:

Frank Marshall Davis wrote in his fictionalized memoir that he and his wife had a threesome with a young white girl named Ann, aged 14.

COULD THIS HAVE REALLY BEEN STANLEY ANNE DUNHAM, AGED 17?

WAS HER MARRIAGE TO BARACK SENIOR MERELY AN ACT OF CONVENIENCE FOR THEM BOTH?

FACT:

You don't get into the inner echelons of Chicago politics without being sent by someone connected. They always ask, "WHO SENT YOU?"

WHO SENT OBAMA? Was it Ayers - who he might have met in Colombia, or was it through his real biological father, Frank Marshall Davis?

The stories we have been told by the Obama camp don't add up.

BOTTOM-LINE:

THE ONLY STORY WHICH CONNECT ALL THE DOTS IS THE STORY IN WHICH THE CHICAGO COMMUNIST AND POET DAVIS IS BARACK'S REAL FATHER.

IT MAY SEEM WILD, BUT IT ACTUALLY PASSES OCCAM'S RAZOR.

*******UPDATE:

EXIT QUESTION:

IS THIS THE REAL REASON OBAMA WON'T RELEASE HIS ACTUAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE OR HIS MEDICAL RECORDS?

HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND MEDICAL RECORDS WOULD REVEAL HIS BLOOD TYPE, AND HIS BLOOD TYPE MIGHT PROVE BARACK SENIOR COULDN'T BE HIS REAL FATHER.

HERE'S WHY/HOW:
Paternity Determination by Blood Type can be used to disprove paternity in many cases.

The ABO blood type charts below can be used to predict the possibilities of paternity.

The charts below can assist you to determine either:

1. The ABO blood type of the child when the blood type of the father and the mother are known (top chart), or

2. The ABO blood type of the father if the blood type of the child and the mother are known (bottom chart).
ABO Blood Type Calculator

ABO blood types can be complicated to understand. This is mostly due to the fact that the 'O-type' antigen is masked by the presence of an A- or B-type antigen. This is explained in the following chart, showing the different the genotypes that make up the blood types.Genotype (DNA)   Blood Type
AO or AA   A blood type
AB   AB blood type
BO or BB   B blood type
OO   O blood type

For example, two O blood type parents can produce a child with only O blood type. Two parents with A blood type can produce a child with either A or O blood types. Two parents with B blood type can produce a child with either B or O blood type. One parent with A and another with B can produce a child with A, B, AB or O blood types. If one parent has A and another has AB, they can either produce a child with A, B or AB blood types. If one parent has A and another has O, they can either produce a child with A or O blood types.

BLEG: DOES ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW STANLEY ANN'S BLOOD TYPE, OR BARACK SENIOR'S OR DAVIS'S?
Bottom-line: This scenario BEST explains: Barrack Junior's APPEARANCE; LITERARY ABILITIES; CONNECTION TO CHICAGO (over Hawaii or Indonesia or Kenya), CONNECTION TO LEFTISM - and his need for SECRECY over his MEDICAL RECORDS and BIRTH CERTIFICATE.

He's so secretive not because he was not born here, but because he is not Barack Senior's child.

AND HE KNOWS IT.

*******MEGA UPDATE: IS THIS MAN BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA'S REAL HALF-BROTHER???

FROM THE COMMENTS:

THIS MAN IS FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS'S SON.

HE HAS A BLOG AT THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN WEBSITE WHICH IDENTIFIES HIM THAT WAY, AND HE CLAIMS THIS IN THE COMMENT THREAD AT THIS POST.

I THINK HE LOOKS MORE LIKE BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA THAN ANY OTHER MEMBER OF THE DUNHAM FAMILY OR THE OBAMA CLAN.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Barack Obama and Frank Marshall Davis
http://thelonggoodbye.wordpress.com/2008/02/20/barack-obama-and-frank-marshall-davis/

Accuracy in Media ( a right-wing front group) has this bombastic article up on Barack Obama, Obama’s Communist Mentor, AIM Column, By Cliff Kincaid, February 18, 2008

However, through Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his “poetry” and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, Dreams From My Father, refers to him repeatedly as just “Frank.”

The reason is apparent: Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. In fact, the 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii identified him as a CPUSA member. What’s more, anti-communist congressional committees, including the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), accused Davis of involvement in several communist-front organizations.

It didn’t take much to get on some kind of list in the 1950s. A Google search shows that some variation of this meme – Davis was a supposedly a communist and Obama’s acknowledgment of Davis as an influence of course equals that Obama is a secret commie has been floating around for a while. One of the things that should make people take pause is the newsgroup’s promulgation of an article that describes Davis as a “socialist realist”. The clever addition of three little letters makes all the difference. Davis biographers and historians refer to Davis as a “social realist”. I can find no paper by Davis or any expert on Davis that describes him as a “socialist realist”. Davis was a newspaper writer and editor in addition to being a poet. He certainly had the time and opportunity in a long carreer to spell out his thoughts. As of this writing I can’t find any writings by him that states his allegiance to communism. On the contrary he warned the civil rights movement not to move in that direction. There is also the meme that Davis didn’t join the Communist Party until the fifties and even then he kept it a secret – as of this writing I cannot find any verification of that. Even if true the implication that Obama became a secret communist simply because he knew Davis is absurd guilt by association. From The Voice of the World: The Early Career of Frank Marshall Davis 1931- 1934 by Leonard Ray Teel, Associate Professor, Department of Communication, Georgia State University

The mood of protest in the early 1930s was such that some editors welcomed even the editors of the Communists Party. At the end of 1931, Carl Murphy’s influential Baltimore Afro- American applauded the “Communist program of racial equality” as a hopeful balance to the year’s deplorable events — “fifteen lynchings” and the death sentences given to eight black youths in the Scottsboro, Ala rape trial. The editors welcomed the communists as neo-abolitionists: Reds as courageous as the Minute Mne or the volunteer firemen seem everywhere ready for a demonstration against race prejudice, whether it be at hand or a thousand miles away.

Alliance with the Communist Party, even from a distance, was too radical for some black editors, among them Frank Marshall Davis. While he was as ardent as any editor against injustices — in jobs, housing, education, the laww — Davis warned against reliance upon a non-American system for solving American problems. In 1932, a year after becoming managing editor of the Atlanta World, Davis was invited to a national symposium of prominent black editors, including Murphy of the Afro-American and Robert S. Vann of the Courier. There, he warned aginst reliance on the Communist system to achieve racial justice. To Davis, the black protest movement was not compatible with the communists “crude and noisy militancy.” He saw “no fear of the rainbow brotherhood going red in wholesale numbers — at least not until white America takes long steps in that direction.”

[ ]…Davis articulated the newspaper’s conscience. In four years, he articulated an agenda of “social realism” that included appeals for racial justice in politics and economics, as well as justice before the law. He championed Negro activism, especially to compensate for social ills not remedied by white society. But he warned blacks against accepting the Depression era remedies advertised by communists.

[ ]…His own personal horror had occured in Kansas when he was 5 years old, he once told an interviewer. Some white third-graders who had heard about lynching had practiced on him and nearly hanged him.

Some other blogs that have posted on this and associated story by Lisa Schiffren writing for the Republican National Review making the utterly irrational argument that since Obama was the product of a mixed African-American-Jewish marriage he must be a communists, Is Barack Obama the Product of a Secret Communist-Jewish Breeding Program?, For Conservatives, “Race-Mixing” Still A Communist Plot, Obammunists, and Wow, are the racists Very Serious, Thoughtful people over at The Corner on a roll today.

Davis certainly showed an incredible entrepreneurial spirit for some one that was supposed to be a communist,

Davis said that he was drawn to life in Hawaii because of the islands’ multiethnic culture. He wrote some poetry in Hawaii and worked on his autobiography beginning in the early 1960s. He penned a column for a Honolulu labor newspaper. But mostly he dropped off the literary radar, starting a paper-supplies company, Oahu Papers, which mysteriously burned to the ground in March of 1951. In 1959 he started another similar firm, the Paradise Paper Company. Several times he was questioned about his leftist affiliations by congressional investigators, but by the late 1950s the anticommunist hysteria had died down.

Obama's peverted communist friend Frank Marshall Davis

Cliff Kincaid writes about a Daily Telegraph article on Communist Frank Marshall Davis "a strong influence over a young Barack Obama for nine years of his life, rather than just four, and was a sex pervert and pothead."

Sexual Perversion and Rape

Davis’s alleged sexual perversion adds a dramatic and alarming element to the controversy. Harnden reports that Davis’s sexual proclivities were documented in a 1968 pornographic novel, written just two years before Davis became Obama’s mentor, which was titled, Sex Rebel: Black (Memoirs of a Gourmet Gash). Davis wrote the book, which is now generally unavailable, under a pseudonym, Bob Greene.

Harnden flatly asserts that “The book, which closely tracks Mr. Davis’s life in Chicago and Hawaii and the fact that his first wife was black and his second white, describes in lurid detail a series of shockingly sordid sexual encounters, often involving group sex. One chapter concerns the seduction by Mr. Davis and his first wife of a 13-year-old girl called Anne. Mr. Davis wrote that it was the girl who had suggested he had sex with her.”

Harnden added, “He then described how he and his wife would have sex with the girl” many times over the course of several weeks. “On other occasions,” he added, “Mr. Davis would cruise in Hawaii parks looking for couples or female tourists to have sex with. He derived sexual gratification from bondage, simulated rape and being flogged and urinated on.”

This explosive information, if the character in the book is actually based on Davis’s own experiences, would further demonstrate why Obama would want to cover up Davis’s true identity in his book, calling him just “Frank.”

There is no question that Davis wrote the book under the pseudonym of “Bob Greene.” John Edgar Tidwell, the editor of other books by Davis, has confirmed this is the case. But Tidwell has questioned how much of Sex Rebel is based on Davis’s own life experiences and describes it as “semi-autobiographical.”

Harnden acknowledged to AIM that Davis “left himself some wiggle room, not least I suppose because of the possibility of prosecution” for statutory rape of a 13-year-old.

But in the introduction to Livin’ the Blues, a book by Davis that Tidwell edited, Tidwell reveals that Davis left behind after his death an uncompleted manuscript, “The Incredible Waikiki Jungle,” which describes how Davis “specialized in sex” during the period 1969-1976. No details are provided by Tidwell. He also says that Davis wrote another unpublished manuscript called “Mixed Sex Salad.”

Whether the book Sex Rebel is entirely based on Davis or not, the controversy certainly demonstrates that Davis had a perverted sexual interest and should not have been trusted as a mentor for any young person.

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

Obama has not publicly responded to growing concern about his relationship with Davis, and whether Davis’s influence went beyond ideology to matters of a sexual nature. However, during a campaign appearance on Thursday, Obama accused Jerome Corsi, author of The Obama Nation, of “making stuff up” about him. Corsi devotes part of chapter 3 of his book to Davis’s role as a “Communist mentor” for Obama.

But the Obama campaign’s 40-page so-called rebuttal to Corsi’s book confirms and does not deny the Obama relationship with Davis. The rebuttal, however, doesn’t acknowledge that Davis was a communist and instead tries to depict him as a civil rights activist by dishonestly editing an article about Davis. It makes no mention of Davis’s Sex Rebel book and his interest in pornography.

With the allegations about Davis’s life as a sex pervert and consumer of illegal drugs, the pressure could mount on Obama to come clean about the mysterious relationship.

But the pressure may not be coming from the “conservative” Fox News Channel.

On August 18th, Fox News aired a special program, “Presidential Character & Conduct 2008: Barack Obama,” which not only ignored Frank Marshall Davis but the association of Obama with Communist terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. The program, narrated by Bill Hemmer, a former anchor for CNN, mostly relied on friends, associates and a friendly biographer of Obama for information about the candidate.

While the program did include information about Obama’s relationship with convicted felon Tony Rezko, it concluded that Obama did nothing illegal and ignored Rezko’s involvement with a controversial Iraqi-born billionaire, Nadhmi Auchi, who has been pressuring the media to stop running negative stories about him.

One has to wonder if Auchi or his representatives got to Fox News Channel, whose parent company, News Corporation, is run by Rupert Murdoch, a vocal supporter of Obama, and is owned in part by an Arab-based Middle Eastern company.   (read it all)

I regret to inform you that your post suggests that you may have been victimized by a disinformation campaign regarding Frank Marshall Davis.  In an obvious attempt to smear Barack Obama through guilt-by-association, his critics have fabricated, and unwitting bloggers have propagated, fraudulent memes regarding Davis throughout the blogosphere.  The proof of deception is irrefutable.

As a retired Air Force Intelligence Officer with specific training in Deception Analysis by the C.I.A. in 1989, I am researching political disinformation.  I am familiar with disinformation campaigns, including Pope Gregory's misrepresentation of Mary Magdalene, Russian and German misrepresentation of Judaism, Operation Fortitude protecting the D-Day invasion, Operation Left Hook protecting the coalition drive into Kuwait, and the “deliberate misrepresentation” of the Iraqi threat in 2002.  The campaign against Davis fits the pattern epitomized by "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," where  a target is smeared through deliberate misrepresentation.

Spearheaded by conservative firebrand Cliff Kincaid, of ironically named "Accuracy In Media" (AIM), a clearly orchestrated disinformation campaign began attacking Davis in February 2008.  Cliff Kincaid is clearly the John Dillinger of deception. Irrefutable proof of AIM's deliberate misrepresentation against Davis is readily available, just as irrefutable proof of Bush administration deliberate misrepresentation against Iraq in 2002 is available.

Just as there are a few loyalists who still insist that Bush told the truth about the Iraqi threat despite overwhelming evidence of deception, so to are there misguided souls who believe disinformation regarding Davis despite overwhelming evidence of deception.  In both cases, some Americans would rather believe fully discredited lies than admit they were duped. They don't have the courage or integrity to admit their mistakes.  For everyone else: "Follow the evidence" (as they say on CSI) of deception, for it is irrefutable.

Let us evaluate the empirical evidence with dispassionate objectivity, rather than accepting unsubstantiated accusations and deliberate misrepresentation from pundits of questionable integrity.  In some cases, falsified evidence is so transparent that it shames the author.  Such imprudence suggests that the perpetrators did not expect their "evidence" to be examined closely, because Kincaid ironically posted evidence disproving some of his own claims!  If you evaluate no other evidence of deception, please read an analysis of the epitome of Kincaid's deception: his reporting on the 1949 Honolulu NAACP incident (http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/Kaleokualoha/gG5kN7).

Unfortunately, Kincaid's faux journalism is more reminiscent of Orwell's Ministry of Truth than any advocate of ethical journalism. In direct contradiction of AIM claims of "fairness, balance and accuracy in news reporting," Kincaid publishes the epitome of "yellow journalism" ("any journalism that treats news in an unprofessional or unethical fashion, such as systematic political bias. Yellow journalism can also be the practice of over-dramatizing events."  - Wikipedia).

Cliff Kincaid is a master of disinformation campaigns similar to those conducted by the Soviet KGB.  Disinformation, as a form of deception, has roots in antiquity.  It was perfected by right-wingers to "justify" the invasion of Iraq.  Of those who cared, most Americans believed, without a shred of evidence, that Iraq was responsible for 9/11 through a masterful disinformation campaign.  Most Americans believed, despite U.N. confirmation of Iraqi denials, that they also had WMD stockpiles due to the same disinformation campaign.   Disinformation is now a mature science.

Cliff Kincaid's so-called "Accuracy In Media" (AIM), like the Ministry of Truth, "is a misnomer and in reality serves an opposing purpose to that which its name would imply, being responsible for the falsification of historical events; and yet is aptly named in a deeper sense, in that it creates/manufactures "truth" in the newspeak sense of the word." (from Wikipedia).  Kincaid may be a proponent of Straussian "noble lie" delusions.  University of Kansas Professor Edgar Tidwell, whom AIM's Cliff Kincaid cites as "an expert on the life and writings of Davis," said “I'm hardly interested in proving my research to Kincaid or any of those whose work is a travesty to scholarship."

Just as there are a few loyalists who still insist that Bush told the truth about the Iraqi threat despite overwhelming evidence of deception, so to are there misguided souls who believe Davis disinformation despite overwhelming evidence of deception.   In both cases, some Americans would rather believe fully discredited lies than admit they were duped. They don't have the courage or integrity to admit their mistakes.  For everyone else: "Follow the evidence" of deception, for it is irrefutable.

To smear Obama, the Lord of the Lies, Cliff Kincaid, has misrepresented family friend Frank Marshall Davis as a virtual "Frank-enstein" monster, which is totally untrue.  According to University of Kansas Professor Edgar Tidwell, cited by AIM as an "expert in the life and writings" of Davis, THESE were the “radical” goals of Frank Marshall Davis: (1) integration of armed forces, (2) integration of AFL and CIO, (3)  fair wages and other benefits for workers, (4)  general dismantling of all laws supporting racial segregation, (5)  end to laws supporting anti-Semitism, (6)  end to atomic warfare, (7)  rights for soldiers in combat zones to vote in national elections, (8)  support for Fair Employment Practices Act, (9)  support for a broad United Nations (not just US and Great Britain, forming a world power union), and (10) end to restrictive covenants in real estate.

Most of these goals have been accepted even by conservatives years ago.  Frank Marshall Davis was not out of line, he was just ahead of his time.  For Cliff Kincaid, however, truth was just collateral damage in the effort to block Obama.  Although he undoubtedly knew the truth, Kincaid dishonorably assaulted the legacy of a dead poet, journalist, and civil rights activist because he thought he would not get caught.  Some of his deception is obvious when examined closely, but convincing from afar, like the fake invasion force that "threatened" Calais before D-Day.

Are you interested in evidence? Read Kincaid's reporting on the 1949 Honolulu NAACP incident: http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/Kaleokualoha/gG5kN7.  Kincaid had the audacity to post the Congressional testimony of rookie board member Edward Berman (at http://www.usasurvival.org/docs/hawaii-obama.pdf), then publish four different misrepresentations of that testimony at: http://www.aim.org/aim-column/obamas-red-mentor-praised-red-army/, http://www.aim.org/guest-column/return-of-the-dupes-and-the-anti-anti-communists/, http://www.aim.org/aim-column/obama-plays-reagan-in-berlin/, and http://www.aim.org/aim-column/ap-lies-about-obamas-red-mentor/.  Evidence of his deception is irrefutable thanks to his own posts.  I welcome feedback on this analysis.

Thanks!

It seems that we have some unhealthy imaginations at work.  Frank Marshall Davis was neither a "pervert" nor guilty of rape, as Cliff Kincaid claims.  Calling Davis a pedophile based on his novel makes no more sense than calling David Letterman a pedophile based on his joke.  Both lies are widespread in the right-wing blogosphere, and reflect the pinnacle of intellectual dishonesty.  Both misrepresent the core values of artists by spreading falsehoods that gullible readers accept as truth, and who then spread further in good faith.   Such misrepresentation exploits mainstream unawareness of literary styles such as the semiautobiographic novel (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autobiographical_novel), memoir-novel (see http://www.answers.com/topic/memoir-novel-1) and the first-person narrative (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-person_narrative), by claiming that the artist actually experienced fictional events when it serves their disinformation purposes.  Deliberate misrepresentation is the foundation of disinformation campaigns, such as the campaign against Barack Obama and Davis.

The pornography disinformation against Frank Marshall Davis is just as heinous as the political disinformation.  At a minimum, it indicates a cognitive disorder manifested by an inability to distinguish fact from fiction, in the manner of soap opera fans who blame actors for their characters' misdeeds.  Further, it suggests that those making such false accusations may be projecting their own libidinous psychological disorders onto Davis.

As a retired Air Force Intelligence Officer with specific training in Deception Analysis by the C.I.A. in 1989, I am researching political disinformation.  I am familiar with disinformation campaigns, including Pope Gregory's misrepresentation of Mary Magdalene, Russian and German misrepresentation of Judaism, Operation Fortitude protecting the D-Day invasion, Operation Left Hook protecting the coalition drive into Kuwait, and the “deliberate misrepresentation” of the Iraqi threat this century.

Here we have redbaiting, race-baiting, and now crime-baiting, where Davis is misrepresented as an avowed communist, racist, and criminal monster, in the creation of a straw man through which Obama is easy to attack through guilt-by-association.  This disinformation campaign fits the pattern epitomized by "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," where  a target is smeared through deliberate misrepresentation.

Frank Marshall Davis wrote a scandalous memoir-novel  under the pseudonym Bob Greene, one chapter of which is devoted to the Bob Greene and his wife having sex with a thirteen year old girl, according to a British website (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/uselection2008/barackobama/2601914/Frank-Marshall-Davis-alleged-Communist-was-early-influence-on-Barack-Obama.html) on 24 August.  According to the British website, "Mr. Davis (writing as Greene) explains that although he has “changed names and identities…all incidents I have described have been taken from actual experiences."  Please note that the fictional character Bob Greene, not Davis, alleges that incidents were taken from actual experiences.

In a same day report citing the British website, "Accuracy In Media" (AIM) reported that Edgar Tidwell, an "expert in the life and writing of Davis" confirms that Frank Marshall Davis wrote "Sex Rebel: Black" as a semi-autobiographical novel. Despite Tidwell's expert opinion that the novel was SEMI-autobiographical, AIM's Cliff Kincaid escalated accusations against Davis by first claiming he was a sex pervert (http://www.aim.org/aim-column/obamas-red-mentor-was-a-pervert/) in their 24 August report.  (Kincaid falsely attributed the "pervert" claim to the British website.)  On 14 October, AIM again escalated the charges by claiming Davis was an "admitted child molester" (http://www.aim.org/aim-column/was-a-communist-obamas-sex-teacher/).

There are at least four disclaimers that shield Frank Marshall Davis from literal attribution of this novel:

a.  All memoir-novels, whether pornographic (e.g., John Cleland's "Fanny Hill"), satirical (e.g., Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels"), or other genre (e.g., Daniel Defoe's "Moll Flanders"), are allegedly true but nevertheless fiction.   The fictional authors of memoir-novels, such as "Bob Greene," claim that such incidents actually occurred although they, too, are fictional.  In a broader sense, ALL first-person narrative novels, such as Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn," claim authenticity despite obviously being fiction.  To claim that some memoir-novels are literally true (if convenient for one's political agenda), while acknowledging that other memoir-novels are truly fiction, is intellectual dishonesty.

Please note that Jonathan Swift (writing as fictional character Gulliver in memoir-novel "Gulliver's Travels") described various encounters with Lilliputians and other characters, and Vladimir Nabokov (writing as fictional character Humbert Humbert in memoir-novel "Lolita") described various encounters with Lolita and other characters. Upon what basis can anyone believe that Davis's story is history, while other first person narrative memoir-novels are fantasy?  To literally attribute memoir-novel character Bob Greene's encounters to Davis, but not attribute the encounters of memoir-novel characters Gulliver and Humbert Humbert to their respective authors, indicates a flagrantly biased double standard to smear Barack Obama through guilt-by-association.

b.  Scandalous memoirs such as "Sex Rebel:  Black (Memoirs of a Gash Gourmet)" have been a literary genre for centuries.  According to Wikipedia, such scandalous memoirs are allegedly factual, but are largely invented.  The title, alone, qualifies it as a "scandalous memoir."  It is the epitome of dishonesty to claim, without empirical evidence, that fictional characters' experiences actually occurred in their author's real life .

c.  The fictional character Bob Greene, not author Frank Marshall Davis, "changed names and identities" of other characters.  According to dictionary.com, "identity" means "condition or character as to who a person or what a thing is: a case of mistaken identity."  Changing name AND identities means changing names AND other "condition or character as to who a person or what a thing is," which may include biographical data such as age.  Further, "taken from actual experiences" does not mean they are accurate representations of any experiences.

d.  Edgar Tidwell, the expert on the life and writing of Frank Marshall Davis, says the book is "semiautobiographical," which (according to dictionary.com) means "1. pertaining to or being a fictionalized account of an author's own life.  2. pertaining to or being a work of fiction strongly influenced by events in an author's life."  "Sex Rebel: Black" is therefore a fictionalized account of events in Davis's life.

In an honest evaluation, any of these disclaimers should protect the author from literal interpretation.  The combination of all four should provide absolute protection from any culpability.  Unfortunately, Davis's accusers are dishonest.  Like Mike Nifong, the disgraced ex-D.A. in the Duke lacrosse case, their campaign to demonize their target ignores exculpatory evidence in their reckless rush to judgment.  In order to smear Barack Obama through guilt-by-association with Frank Marshall Davis, they are virtually lynching Davis by grossly misrepresenting his character and influence.  Such misrepresentation may be symptomatic of the accuser's own psychological disorder, indicated by projection of the accuser's own pedophilic fantasies onto the author.

In "Sex Rebel," Davis's Bob Greene (not unlike Nabokov's Humbert Humbert) hesitates at a pubescent girl's sexual invitation, but foolishly relents.  Like "Lolita," this faux foreword is written by a Ph.D impersonator who details the psychological significance of the memoir.  Like Nabokov, Davis wanted to write under a pseudonym to shield his reputation, but felt compelled to reveal his authorship.  As a result, however, Davis has been posthumously accused of pedophilia, while "Lolita" is "considered by many to be one of the finest novels written in the 20th century."  In 1998, it was named the fourth greatest English language novels of the 20th century by the Modern Library," despite also being initially dismissed as pornography, according to Wikipedia.

This deliberate misrepresentation is only the latest in a long series of falsehoods by AIM professional prevaricators.  Their "specific misrepresentation" is documented at http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/Kaleokualoha/gGxdvX .  I invite any person of integrity to refute my evidence against any of these AIM lies.  If AIM had authentic evidence of Davis's radical influence, they would not need to fabricate such evidence.

I still think the information is correct. Davis did write an autobiography.

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Livin-the-Blues/Frank-Marshall-Davis/e/9780299135003
Livin' the Blues: Memoirs of a Black Journalist and Poet
by Frank Marshall Davis, John Edgar Tidwell (Editor), John E. Tidwell (Editor)

He wrote and published four important collections of poetry: Black Man's Verse (1935), I Am The American Negro (1937), Through Sepia Eyes (1938), and 47th Street: Poems (1948), which brought him high esteem and visibility in the literary world. Davis turned his back on a sustained literary career by moving to Hawaii in 1948. There he cut himself off from the busy world of Chicago writers and virtually disappeared from literary history until interest in his work was revived in the 1960s Black Arts Movement, which hailed him as a pioneer of black poetry and established him as a member of its canon. Because of his early self-removal from the literary limelight, Davis' life and work have been shrouded in mystery. Livin' the Blues offers us a chance to rediscover this talented poet and writer and stands as an important example of black autobiography, similar in form, style, and message to those of Langston Hughes and Richard Wright
http://biography.jrank.org/pages/2342/Davis-Frank-Marshall.html

Who is Barak Obama (Timeline info)
...

In 1971 or 1972, Obama is sent back to Hawaii to live with his mother’s parents;

Obama attends the elite, expensive, private Punahou High School (1971-1979).

Because of his drug abuse, Obama’s grades are poor in his final two years of high school. Obama later writes that “Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though.”

While a teenager in Hawaii, Obama spends considerable time with Frank Marshall Davis (whose identity Obama hides by describing him only as “Frank” in his book, “Dreams From My Father”). Davis is a dope-smoking drinking buddy of Obama’s grandfather, Stanley Dunham; Dunham and Davis had known each other in Kansas. Obama had met Davis shortly after arriving in Hawaii, at age 10, but was most influenced by him during his high school years. In place of his absent father and stepfather, Davis becomes Obama’s mentor. [19,21,389]
...
Davis ... is the author of the book “Sex Rebel: Black” under the pseudonym Bob Greene.
...
It is believed that Davis was a close friend of Thomas Ayers (father of William Ayers) in Chicago, and that it was Davis who encouraged Obama to attend Columbia College in New York and hook up with William Ayers. [259]

Davis’ Marxist-inspired poetry includes lines like, “Smash on, victory-eating Red Army!”

Titles of his poems include, “Christ is a Dixie Nigger.” [261]
Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole ; He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee. - Job 5

I find it interesting  this joker popped-up  with just 2 posts, just to refute this story and then ran back to his hidey hole ... The thing is we have the photos of Ann Durham  and Davis WAS a sex man and porn producer ... self proclaimed communist etc ...
