South Park creators plan Book of Mormon film

SOUTH Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are planning to turn their Tony Award-winning musical The Book of Mormon into a movie.

The play, a satire about two young Mormon missionaries sent to a remote village in Uganda, scooped up nine awards, including Best Musical, at the 65th annual Tony Awards in June, Entertainment Weekly said.

Parker said he and Stone are planning to adapt The Book of Mormon after the show completes a national tour next summer. He said it could be several years before the film version becomes a reality.

Producer Scott Rudin, who worked with the duo on their films South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut and Team America: World Police and produced the Mormon musical, would likely be involved in producing the film version, Stone said.

"The great thing is, a lot of Broadway teams would have to go team up with a Hollywood producer and bring on a Hollywood director, but Trey's a director and Scott's a great producer," said Stone. "We've all made movies. So it's kind of cool, it can stay in the same family."

Park and Stone are currently working on the second half of the 15th season of South Park, scheduled to begin airing on October 5 on Comedy Central.

I don't agree with the LDS Church, but I support their First Amendment right to the faith of their choosing.

Awesome sauce!

On a sort of related note...

How would you react if Matt and Trey showed up in your classroom?

I'd much rather see them create a global warming film.

After all, it isn't the Mormons who are trying to destroy what's left of our already-depressed economy.

I think just about evryone on the board feels the same as you.  They have every right to get into their majic undies and cavort wherever they choose.  But I do think they should be forced to appologise for Glenda Becki. Grin

I know nothing about the musical. Is it pro Mormon, and anti-Mormon?

Nothing Matt and Trey do is "pro" anything... or really "anti" either.  Watch the movie Orgazmo and the South Park episode 712 "All About the Mormons" to get an idea of their view on the Mormon religion.  Other episodes feature equally satirical commentary on other religions (Christianity, Judaism, Scientology)... they don't make the stereotypes, they just exploit them =].

Yeah, that what I figured it was like. But based on a few of the comments here, i was wondering if Trey and Matt were themselves moron...I mean mormon. I think I'll take a pass on it however.
