It is a psyco-spiritual-sexual journey or ceremony in the Western Magickal tradition.
Basically it is the joining of the conscious and the subconscious enabling a "heightened" state of awareness.
Put simply it is a magickal "working" that is meant, as they all are, to invoke communication with "entities" by altering your perceptions through magickal rituals.
A very dangerous and risky business in my opinion.

The Harry Potter books used some of this stuff along with other actual writings based loosely on Dee's works.
This link will take you to a download of "A view From Space" with Gary "spaceman"Bell at 640 Toronto AM.
He did almost three full shows on Potter and how the books were based on Actual characters from Witchcraft's history. He goes into the Cymacal_Romance thing on this show and explains that.
