Back in June, I wrote briefly about German strongman Patrik Baboumian, whose hulk-like strength was impressive enough to make a documentary about. Patrick has just won Germany’s Strongest Man 2011 competition, and he currently holds the German crown in strength sports. From his own blog he says : “After being LW champion in 2007 and 2009 and HW vice-champion in 2010, I finally hold the German crown in strength sports in my hands. It was a very hard battle in the rain and I had to fight against my injured calf as well but at the end I was victorious! Now I have proven finally, that being vegetarian makes you a better athlete!“ http://www.thediscerningbrute.com/2011/08/11/germanys-strongest-man-is-a-vegetarian/

Realistically, he probably had tons of protein shakes etc... which are not 100% veggie based.
You simply can't build muscle mass like that on flower power alone.

I beg to differ - there are several types of algae that are extremely high protein. Salt water (spirulina) and Fresh water (chlorella). You don't need to take excessive quanties of them - couple of tbs and you are getting the same as a Chicken breast. The Chlorella tastes better and has more protein. Beans are still very high on the list also - there are veggies that are high protein as well without the adverse side effects of other types of proteins. There are several very high protein all veggie powders on the market today - if you would like to try one let me know and I'll send you a link.

There was a story in the Bible about David's mighty men, who all were vegetarians (raw foodists, I believe) and were something like 10 times stronger than their contemporaries. Maybe there is a way to get enough protein after all...
Soy, anyone?

As much as I think big pharma is evil - I think most know that a lot of drugs and medications are made from plant base, including steroids. There have been tests on spinach that concluded it has an anabolic effect on the body but you have to eat over a pound of it roughly. Considerng this guy probably has to have 4000 or better calories a day -- he could feasibly blend that much up and drink it without issue. Thats interesting femacamper, I'd love to get my hands on that diet

Thats interesting femacamper, I'd love to get my hands on that diet The Diet of David and His Military CommandersLet us look at the typical diet of David and his mighty men. The references are 1 Samuel 17:17-18, 25:18 and 2 Samuel 17:28-29. They ate roasted/parched grains of wheat and barley, bread and cakes made of fine flour, beans, lentils, parched seeds, raisins, figs, honey, curds, cheese and mutton. With this omnivorous diet, David derived strength to slay Goliath, the giant, and defeated the enemies of Israel in battle. The exploits of David's mighty men are recorded in 2 Samuel 23:8-39. Among them are warriors who achieved great victories in battle, one of them even single-handedly killed 300 men at one battle. Who says eating animal foods is unhealthy? And we should also not forget men like Joshua, Caleb and Samson. Sorry, they weren't vegetarian. I still think they were raw foodists.

questions then, I know Soy(lentals) have lots of good things in them. But I have read so much bad about soy, and how un healthy it is!
is this just because all soy today is GMO, so it is a synthetic soy?
or is even organic soy bad as well?
any links and info would be good, I have seriously considered going raw food diet, but cant convince myself of it.

Unless it goes through a special process it's not good for you and of course since 98% of it is GMO .. none of it is good for you.

They ate cheese.... the cheese is what made them strong... The rest of it gave them a good metabolism and a good supply of vitamins/minerals. Cheese = Vegetarian? since when? ---------------- Does this German Strong man have his diet posted anywhere? also I don't believe in plant protein being all that effective for building muscle.... but I have an open mind...

He probably has a sympathetic dominant autonomic system. Those kind of people are the ones who look like body builders without ever working out. A more vegetarian diet works better for some of them. Your diet depends on how your body functions, whether the metabolism runs fast or slow or in the middle. One diet will not fit all.
