It's time we had a serious discussion about this movie...Alex was basically discussing it when he mentioned the real matrix and Times Square styled marketing and advertising. When I studied this film in college, our instructor had us read Simulacra and Simulation by Jean Baudrillard. A simulacra, in the example of Blade Runner it is a simulacra of a human, is an exact copy which is indistinguishable from the original. He also describes cities designed around the consumer center with advertising literally everywhere. Baudrillard's book isn't clearly critical of the "false reality" our society is creating...I am not sure that he was warning so much as proclaiming. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simulacra_and_SimulationThe book is also seen on Neo's desk at the beginning of the first Matrix movie. Look at the society in Blade Runner...

Ridley Scott in his commentary on the "Final Cut" edition says the government of "Blade Runner" is corporate communism.

In the novel Philip K Dick had the population practicing a quasi-Buddist/Hindu/environmentalist religion with a 1950's 'keep up with the Jone's' competitiveness where everyone wanted to own a real animal so they could care for it and thus improve their good karma as well as impress the neighbors. The larger and more exotic the animal the more social status you had. This was kind of left out of the film with the exception of Dekards comments about the Tyrell owl and the dancers snake. One of the best sci-fi movies ever made and on my permanent top 10 list. I have seen it literally hundreds of times. I would suggest the documentaries "Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner (2007)" and "On the Edge of Blade Runner" for any fan of this movie. Sean Young on Blade Runner http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIdlYzbugT8#t=1m40sJohn C. Tibbetts interviews Sean Young about Blade Runner in 1982. Sean Young on Blade Runner: " I am gonna be alive in the year 2020 and I just hope that I am not living in a place like that.
Because it's portrayed as more of deterioration of society rather than a strengthening of it." Well guess what honey, the place is gonna be worse than the place described in the movie 'BLade Runner'!

One of the best sci-fi movies ever made Agreed! and on my permanent top 10 list. Same here. I especially like how, at the end, you're left wondering who the real villain was -- Roy Batty or Rick Deckard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_saUN4j7Gw

In the novel, at the end, Deckard suspects that he and all the other Blade Runner hit men are themselves Replicants™. Very transhumanist where the lines between clone and human are blurring.

My favorite movie. I said so when I came out of the theatre. So influential, too.

I didn't know she was awake! She was too hot in Blade Runner. ...and as I listen to the interview I realize she is not just awake, as in 'Charlie Sheen awake', she is 100% 'Norman Dodd and G. Edward Griffin' awake!

Awake like a third cup of coffee with cream from an abducted cow and two cubes of sugar from hyperspace,... awake like Phil Schneider, Ed Fouche,... awake like David Icke.
She talks of mind control via repetition (basic Pavlovian B mod conditioning) and the agendas:
The Secret agenda The Transition aganda ("semi out there") The Sudden agenda Elitist Lucifarianism
What's a word for awake at the next octave?

I wonder if Alex is aware of this, because she would obviously make an excellent guest for his show. I chuckled when she said: "If you stick your head in the sand, you still got the world happening around your ass."
