Wondering if anyone would know... I had to get my license renewed today (Ohio) and I was questioning the clerk. She said the "Real ID" is in effect in Ohio now and it is signified by a star at the top of the card. She said there was no RFID chip and there were no biometrics required on my part. Just wondered if anyone knew anything about this. Check out the pic.

Personally, I wouldn't go by what a worker says at the DMV. Your better off looking at the Ohio laws on it.

The Real ID Act of 2005 is only partially in effect. NOt all states even recognize it, and some have filed suit to block implementation of it, claiming its too expensive on the states. So, the feds just offered up a new one called the "PASS Act". Look it up. It's a new "version " of Real ID.

And yes, biometrics are part of it, though not all states are implementing yet, but it's still law. Driver's licenses WILL have biometrics to them. Count on it. Passports already have, and have had for some time now, biometric rfid chips in them. They call the new passports "ePassport", and is confirmed by the little symbol on the front...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biometric_passport
(Take note of the black symbol thing on the right side of the page) That's the symbol that appears on ePassports now.

And coming to a driver's license near you!
