In NEXUS Magazine issue Vol. 17 No. 4 June-July 2010 an interesting reader letter appeared under the title "Brain Tumours Predicted".  Morris Mackay pointed out the frequency used by microwave ovens was also used by other devices such as some cordless phones.  The magic number is 2.4GHz.  For microwave ovens this was picked because water molecules vibrate the easiest at this frequency.  For the uninitiated, this means that the molecules are shaken (thus rubbed together) 2,400,000,000 times per second in order to cause friction and consequently produce heat.

I looked at various so-called 'wireless' devices and noticed that a fair many of them nowadays use 2.4GHz.  For example, wireless keyboards and mice (close proximity to hands - and 'lap' if keyboard rested on lap), game console controllers (again hands and lap maybe), and especially Bluetooth devices like hands-free kits for mobile/cell phones (head/ear/brain).  One can be forgiven for thinking that the output levels are too low to do any harm to a person even though there is no rationale for this view.

Bear in mind the following power specifications for Bluetooth.  Class 1 - up to 100meters - uses 100mW of power [0.1W]; Class 2 - up to 10m - uses 2.5mW [0.0025W]; Class 3 - up to 5m - uses 1mW [0.001W].

In addition to tumour risk, there are other health risks which may never be attributed to wireless device useage.

Enter NEXUS Magazine issue Vol. 18 No. 3 April-May 2011 and article "The Hole in the Heart and the Blood-Brain Barrier" by Steven Rochlitz (an excerpt taken from his book).  This contained a disconcerting piece of information about microwaves.

A paragraph in the article states "Electromagnetic radiation also causes BBB breakdown.  In 1977, researchers observed that very low levels of microwaves applied to the brain rapidly initiated BBB permeability.  Microwave radiation caused albumin to leak from capillaries, causing neuron damage and BBB permeability.  In 1988, scientists found that BBB leakage can occur after two minutes of microwave exposure and at a density level of only 1/10,000th of a watt [0.0001W].  This is far less than the radiation absorbed by a cellphone-user's brain.  Finnish scientists have found that cellphone radiation can shrink brain cells, making them more permeable to leaking toxins.  There may be a vicious cycle in play here for sufferers of EMF sensitivity.  The BBB has also been found to contain magnetite, and so would be sensitive to purely magnetic fields."

Apparently, if I've gathered it correctly, the Blood-Brain Barrier is an important mechanism of the body which protects the brain from contamination.  When the BBB is compromised, the body can lapse into any number of systemic diseases.  Compare the amount of power and duration needed to compromise the BBB with that of the actual output of Bluetooth devices.

The BBB can be compromised by stress and other factors alone.  I'm wondering if using these microwaves may have a cumulative effect, explaining perhaps why some people are easily irritated by microwaves - they may already be suffering from a breach in the BBB.  In worst case scenarios, people may be getting ill for 'no good reason'.

microwave oens operate at 2.4 GHz? i dont think so.
so i checked and they do. lol.
ok the references i checked specified 2.45 but i doubt that makes much difference.
so yeah most of our domestic and personal tech might be frying us.
bluetooth hedsets come to mind. you know the ones that are mandatory in your car.
ok so these things only put out milliwatts compared to 700 W ovens but why has this specific frequency been chosen to be around me all day?

maybe we could combat this by wearing some kind of headwear made from some kind of metal shielding substance. Grin

Wear a Faraday cage over your head if you want, it'll protect you. But as you pointed out the radiation is extremely under powered and from a distance isn't going to do much if anything. Bluetooth headset is going to be much safer then holding the phone to your head, transmitter in phone is actually powerful enough to have an effect.
