His name is Shi Wanzhong, and he is the Human Resources Director of state-run telecom company China Mobile. Today, he was sentenced to death for taking a share of a middle man's $5.06 million commission in exchange for fixing deals between German firm Siemens and China Mobile, according to Shanghai Daily.

The middle man, named Tian Qu, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. All this was done behind closed doors, and the trial was not open to the public.

Stil no word yet on what will happen to Siemens, but here's what they face (via Shanghai Daily):

According to China's Criminal Law, companies shall be fined if they offer bribes and commissions to government officials or those working in a state-owned enterprise. Company employees guilty of bribery shall be given jail terms of up to five years.

Fines don't sound nearly as bad as a death sentence.

Kissinger, Huntsman: U.S., China need cyber detente
http://www.themediabriefing.com/article/2011-06-15/kissinger-huntsman-us-china-need-cyber-detente
By Paul Eckert and Daniel Magnowski NEW YORK/SINGAPORE | Wed Jun 15, 2011 2:49am EDT

(Reuters) - The United States and China need to reach an agreement to restrict cyber attacks and designate some areas as off limits to hacking, two former senior U.S. officials said on Tuesday. Henry Kissinger, an architect of the opening of U.S. relations with China in the 1970s, told a Thomson Reuters event that Washington and Beijing both had significant espionage capabilities and the key was finding a way to discuss them. Jon Huntsman, the former U.S. ambassador to China, likened raising cyber attacks with Beijing to the challenge of discussing missile defense and the military use of space -- issues that are also highly sensitive to the Chinese. "At some point, we are going to have to develop a context in which we can actually discuss this and, I would think, draw some red lines around areas that we don't want them into and they might not want us into," said Huntsman, who left China in April to plan his presidential election campaign, and was speaking at the same event. Their calls for a cyber detente follow a blitz of hacking attacks on major U.S.-based institutions in recent weeks, including the International Monetary Fund, the Senate, and companies such as Citigroup and Lockheed Martin. Chinese entities have been suspected in attacks on Google e-mail accounts of U.S. officials and Chinese activists, though Beijing has denied involvement and said it too is a victim of international hacking. "China has also many times reiterated that we are willing to open up exchanges and cooperation with the international community about Internet security," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said earlier on Tuesday. Kissinger, former secretary of state, said that without an overall agreement, relations over the issue would likely deteriorate. "If you take it case by case it will lead to accusations and counter-accusations," he said. The spate of security breaches prompted NATO to endorse a cyber defense policy on Monday after a meeting last week. NATO officials say the policy focuses on protecting the alliance's computer networks and defense planning processes, and allows for broader consultations on cyber threats. "If there's a cyber threat, NATO has consultation mechanisms and may consult about anything. But the ambition now is to defend NATO bodies, NATO agencies, NATO structures. This is what we are working concretely on," said a NATO official.

The Chinese Hit up Bilderberg Conference in 2011
http://m.ibtimes.com/bilderberg-conference-2011-china-161479.html

In yet another sign of China’s rise, Chinese delegates are now invited to the super-secret and super-elite Bilderberg Conference in 2011. The two Chinese attendees of the conference were Ying Fu (Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs) and Huang Yiping (Professor at Beijing University). Ying, an ethnic Mongol, is an influential player in China’s foreign policy.  She was previously the ambassador to the UK and to Australia.   Huang is a professor at Peking University (China’s Harvard) who has a visible profile in the West.  Ahead of last year’s G20 Summit, he famously warned the US back off calls for China to revalue the yuan. Besides China, Russia and Turkey were the two emerging market countries that were represented.  Bilderberg, true to its origins as a club to promote Atlanticism, was dominated by Americans and Europeans. Europe was grossly overrepresented there.  Finland, the 36th largest economy in the world, had four delegates.  Greece, the nearly bankrupt southern European country, also had four delegates. Countries represented at the conference are Belgium, Germany, UK, US, Finland, Portugal, France, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Canada, Spain, Turkey, Greece, Denmark, China, Ireland, Russia, and Norway. The Bilderberg Conference is a meeting of the West’s elites.  Although no official policy is decided there, the discussions that take place sets the tone for many issues once the delegates leave the meeting. One of the perennial attendees of the conference is Henry Kissinger.

The official agenda of Bilderberg 2011, which Kissinger attended, was the following:

Challenges for Growth: Innovation and Budgetary Discipline, the Euro and Challenges for the European Union, the role of Emerging Economies, Social Networks: Connectivity and Security Issues, New Challenges in the Middle East, Conflict Areas, Demographic Challenges, China, Switzerland: Can it remain successful in the future?

There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.
