Raegan National TSA

- staff was professional.
- body x-ray machine was not working so scanning was a non-issue.
- my dice for my role playing game set off alarm bells. they thought they were plastic explosives.
- my fishing poles in a cardboard tube jammed up in the x-ray machine.
- TSA gave me tape for my tube when my rods fell out, twice.
- they had to chem test the wife's powdered vitamins.
- total time to get through security was about 12 minutes.

JFK TSA (1st time)

- staff was professional (except one with a 'tude).
- rods got stuck in the x-ray machine again.
- 5 security lines and only one had a body scanner so I picked a non-scanner line.
- 1 of the metal detectors broke while I was in line which pissed everyone off in that line.
- had to empty my pockets after going through the metal detector (chic had a 'tude about it).
- made some small talk with a supervisor about the new blue shirts.  he was nice.
- they had to chem test the wife's vitamins again.
- total time to get through security was about 20 minutes.

JFK Customs

- staff was professional.
- they didn't check squat.
- total time to get through customs was about 15 minutes.

JFK TSA (2nd time)

- staff was professional.
- they had to pat down my gang banger baggy Umbro pants.
- chem tested the wife's vitamins.
- they had 3 lines and only 1 with a body scanner so we did not go to that line.
- total time to get through security was less than 10 minutes.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bottom line it looks like they are trying to clean up their act.  I went through TSA security in Omaha, NE in 2004 and 2005.  They were laid back and lazy.  Made us go through a fake body scanner which was nothing more than some jury rigged sheets of plexyglass.  Guess they were beta testing people's reactions.

These same two years I was able to observe TSA at Dallas Fort Worth and Chicago.  Only two words to describe TSA at these 2 airports.  Thugs and bullies.  Haven't been through since.

My advice is dress clean, don't beep, and make small talk with the ones that don't look like *ssholes and you will slide right through.

I was hoping they would try to body scan me or the wife.  The body scanner is my line in the sand.  We refuse to be dragged across it.

What scares me is the number of people I saw knocking themselves over to go through the body scanner.  Scary.  Like sheep to the slaughter.

Did they call you "Dungeon Master" after that?  Cheesy

Seriously, thanks for the post, I have to fly later this summer and was wondering what to expect.

The game that I roll is Robotech.

I have like half a dozen each of the 1D4, 1D6, 1D8, 1D10, 1D12, and 1D20s in various colors.

So I guess they should have called me Robotech Master.  LOL!

They set off a detector of some sort...or did the TSA guy just think they looked suspicious?

Last two weeks:

San Diego Lindbergh Field:
-Long lines
-I announced in advance I wasn't going to go through the body scanners.  They didn't have a problem with that.  Metal detectors only.

Berlin Tegel Airport
-Long lines
-No body scanners, but a full patdown.  My only reaction was to be sullen and refuse to make eye contact.
-They confiscated three disposable lighters from my carry-on bag.

White Plains(NYC area)
-No body scanners, metal detectors only.
-They swabbed the palms of my hands, though they seemed embarrased about it.

On my trip to and back Louisiana a couple of weeks ago, I was able to avoid the body scanners/pat down, as well as going to Ohio. However, on my way back from Ohio, well...ended up twice(ie-bad weather delayed our flight, so we had to go through the darn thing again).

First go around, they made it clear that either a body scanner or a pat down. They ended up padding down my right leg b/c I left my Driver's ID in it. However, the next go around, I made sure my pockets were empty and belt off, but they LIED and gave me a pat down in addition to a body scanner. Later on, I saw they made an old lady on crutches go through the body scanner.

I tried telling my parents that what was in the contents of Orwell's/Huxley's books are coming to a horrifying reality, and went on to say how Ron and Rand Paul have spoken out against it. I even tried to point them to that Rev 13 passage about the mark of the beast, and how we are edging closer and closer to that prophesy.

They thought the dice looked suspicious on the x-ray.  Once they pulled them out they were like oh it's just dice and sent me on my way with my dice.

I went through security in China 4 times last month.

Shanghi/Pudong (1st time)

- chem swabbed my carry on bag.
- x-rayed my carry on bag.
- made me dump my pockets.
- made me go through the metal detector.

KunMing/Wujiaba

- x-rayed my carry on bag.
- made me dump my pockets.
- made me go through the metal detector.
- had some cut chic pat me down because I beeped!!!   Grin

Shanghi/Pudong (2nd time)

- chem swabbed my carry on bag.
- x-rayed my carry on bag.
- made me dump my pockets.
- made me go through the metal detector.

Kunming/(one of the major bus stations)

- x-rayed my carry on bag.

Staff at all times were friendly and professional.  English was pretty good as well.  They had to visually inspect my wife's vitamins and ask her how they could get some.  lol
