Edmunds.com predicts U.S. new-vehicle sales in May will decline 0.4% from year-earlier levels and fall 5.1% from April, with two of the Japanese auto makers seeing year-on-year weakness.

Honda Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Co., wracked by the March earthquake and tsunami in Japan, will see respective declines of 23% and 17%.

Honda had its worst May since 2007 and saw its market share fall to 7.6%, the lowest level since June 2005, from 10.8% in April, Edmunds said.
