WAVERLY, Mo. -- Authorities said a tornado struck a Joplin hospital about 6 p.m. Sunday and caused the roofs of two city fire stations to collapse.

Jasper County Emergency Management Director Keith Stammer said the St. John's Regional Medical Center on the city's south side took a "direct hit."

John Campbell, operations director for the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed fatalities have been reported, but he did not yet have an exact number or specifics.

A spokeswoman at the hospital's sister facility, Cora Scott, said the tornado affected a patient wing. There were reports that windows were blown out.

Joplin tornado kills 89; toll could climb

tornado in Joplin, Mo., Monday, May 23, 2011. A large tornado ripped across much of
the city Sunday, damaging a hospital and hundreds of homes and businesses and killing
at least 89 people. (AP Photo/Charlie Riedel)

JOPLIN, Mo. • A massive tornado that tore through the southwest Missouri city of Joplin killed at least 89 people, but authorities warned that the death toll could climb Monday as search and rescuers continued their work at sunrise.

City manager Mark Rohr announced the number of known dead at a pre-dawn news conference outside the wreckage of a hospital that took a direct hit from Sunday's storm. Rohr said the twister cut a path nearly six miles long and more than a half-mile wide through the center of town, adding that tornado sirens gave residents about a 20-minute warning before the tornado touched down on the city's west side.

Much of the city's south side was leveled, with churches, schools, businesses and homes reduced to ruins.

Fire chief Mitch Randles estimated that 25 percent to 30 percent of the city was damaged, and said his own home was among the buildings destroyed as the twister swept through this city of about 50,000 people some 160 miles south of Kansas City.

I'm sure fearmongering eco-fascists will promptly blame this on "climate change," and then arrogantly and shamelessly insist that only an economy-destroying carbon tax paid to cult leader, Al Gore, and his corporate cronies can save us all from certain doom! ::)

April 2011 Tornadoes
A “Particularly Dangerous Situation”

May 11, 2011 — 12:00 Noon Eastern

http://wp.pierce.ctc.edu/blog/coe/2011/05/10/april-2011-tornadoes-a-particularly-dangerous-situation-emforum-org/

EMForum.org is pleased to host a one hour presentation and interactive discussion May 11, 2011, at 12:00 Noon Eastern time (please convert to your local time). Our topic will be the record-breaking series of tornadoes that have devastated the Southeast during April. The “particularly dangerous situation” (PDS) wording is used for tornado watches in rare situations when there is high potential for long-lived, strong and violent tornadoes.

Our guest will be research meteorologist Harold Brooks, Ph.D., Head of NOAA’s National Severe Storms Laboratory’s (NSSL) Modeling, Observation, and Analysis Team in Norman, Oklahoma. After graduating from the University of Illinois, he was a National Research Council Research Associate at NSSL and joined the permanent staff there in 1992. During his career, his work has focused on why, when, and where severe thunderstorms occur and what their effects are, and on how to evaluate weather forecasts.

The same storm front came through here in Western Illinois yesterday evening. Following the storm I saw this weird cloud formation behind the storm. These are pics from a couple of friends of mine that also saw these clouds.

The above pics don't really do justice for what I saw as they lack definition, perhaps caused by the angle of the sunset. The only way I can describe them as looking like "bubbles"?

FEMA & Citizen Corps Engage Virtually in National Level Exercise 2011 (NLE11)
http://wp.pierce.ctc.edu/blog/coe/2011/05/13/fema-citizen-corps-engage-virtually-in-national-level-exercise-2011-nle11/
May 13, 2011 | | Leave a Comment

This Citizen Corps Notice is provided by FEMA’s Individual & Community Preparedness Division to highlight community preparedness and resilience resources and activities recently announced by federal agencies and Citizen Corps partners.

Dear Colleagues;

We invite you to participate in the Engaged National Level Exercise (NLE 11) which will begin on Monday, May 16th thru Thursday May 19th:

Engage Virtually in National Level Exercise 2011 (NLE11)

Overview

Join the hundreds of private sector organizations that will participate virtually in the White House directed National Level Exercise 2011 (NLE 11) next week (May 16-20.) Virtual Engagement provides participants with a flexible and meaningful way to participate in NLE 11 – whether they are a business owner, a responder, or an individual interested in how they can prepare for and help respond to an incident of significant magnitude. This selection enables participants to follow the flow of the exercise and afford them the opportunity to consider the impact on their own environment.

How it Works

During the week of May 16th, participants will receive a daily email with a link to an NLE 11 specific website that provides scenario and exercise updates, a short series of questions, and a feedback mechanism.

The questions are designed to provide an opportunity for input and feedback to FEMA from individuals and organizations that historically have not been able to participate in National Level Exercises. FEMA will utilize a “Whole Community” approach to encourage identification of novel alternative solutions and unique capabilities that could be utilized during the life saving and life sustaining challenges of a catastrophic disaster response. The input from the virtual engagement will be analyzed for applicability for future response planning.

Sample questions include:

1) What would you be most concerned about during an incident of this magnitude?

2) How would you be communicating with your employees to determine the impact on them?

3) Do you have specific hazardous or fragile materials in your facility/business location that you would need to retrieve or stabilize immediately? If so, what would you be doing to access your location?

Registration Process

FEMA’s GovDelivery system is being used for registration as a Virtual Engagement participant. In order to register, the participant must click on the following link:

https://service.govdelivery.com/service/multi_subscribe.html?code=USDHSFEMA

Once the pop up box opens, enter a valid email address and click on the “Go” button. This will bring the subscriber to the FEMA.gov subscription page.

Scroll down the topic list until the NLE 11 topic and eight respondent categories are listed.

Select which of the respondent categories (you may select up to eight) you fall into and therefore want to provide feedback and input into during the NLE 11 Functional Exercise week (May 16-20).

Registration Questions

Please send all questions regarding Virtual Engagement to NEP@dhs.gov. Please include Virtual Engagement in the subject line of the email.

Sincerely,

The National Office of Citizen Corps
FEMA Individual & Community Preparedness Division

IF it was haarp damn them all to hell. I live east of there twenty miles. I was there today assisting in the cleanup and will have boots on the ground tommorrow too. It is bad. Forecast is for round 2 Tuesday. Could they create the weather systems required to cause this? I'm going to answer with a maybe. Did they? I don't know. I am reluctant to yell haarp at every disaster even though I know it is plausible. I saw those clouds and have my own pics as well. They are usually accompyaning large amounts of hail, which we had. But I have never seen them tailing the storm the way they did. Maybe these guys are on to something with their forecasts. What are they forcasting for the next couple of days?

Wow, they can do it - and we know from their background that they would do it - so whether they directly did this or not is a bit of a tricky question indeed. Weather as a weapon: doable.

Just imagine sending a mega tornado to Moscow. Crazy.

I have lived in this area almost all of my life and we have had tornadoes every single year within a hundred mile radius. They usually are in a rural setting and don't track too long on the ground. Nothing much gets damaged except for a few hedgerows or out buildings, so it's no biggie to us. But this year they have hit heavily populated areas and those attract attention. Nothing produces ratings like another mans misery. I believe in cycles and we are in a strong part of one now.

Well Dutchsinse accurately has been able to predict where these storms and tornadoes are hitting by reading the haarp rings and squares.  He is giving people the heads up.  Someone wrote in a post at youtube the weather is not being broadcast in the media the way it used to be.  They were not informed this tornado was going to hit them.  They thanked Dutch for keeping them up to date and the alert on storm and tornado weather patterns that are happening so they could prepare.

Anyone else notice weather programs being different now?    My husband has.  He said they are not saying "partly cloudy" or "partly sunny" anymore.  Now they are saying "Filtered sun".  Sunshine is filtered alright, filtered through a haze of crap.

I don't watch TV so I wouldn't know. A lot of the "rings and squares" are actually just artifacts created by gaps in tower coverage, at least according to the meteorologists I've talked to.

The coincidence of the "once in a lifetime" occurance happening on the same days of an unprecedented military drill involving the same scenario is the dead giveaway!

Historic Severe Outbreak to Affect 80 Million in Metros
http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/weathermatrix/story/50072/historic-severe-outbreak-to-affect-80-million-in-metros.asp
May 24, 2011; 11:51 AM ET

If you tried to draw a severe weather threat map over most of the population of the Eastern U.S., you couldn't do much better than this. One worry everyone seems to have this year (and for good reason in a Spring with record tornado deaths) is: Will my city be hit by a tornado? It seems to be happening a lot lately.*

As you can see from the map above, which shows cities in black, nearly every major metropolitan area in the heart (and east coast) of the country is under a severe thunderstorm threat today. I tabulated the major metropolitan centers only, and came up with a number of 70 million city folks who are in the Slight Risk area, with 11.5 million in the Moderate or High Risk areas (where tornadoes are most likely to occur).

Although storms could pop up any time now, the most severe will fire in Oklahoma mid-afternoon and spread eastward. Here's one computer forecast model's estimate of what the radar will look like late in the evening:

Mike Smith says "[The 45% chance of tornado] level is reached in a forecast only once every five to ten years." The widespread distribution of this potential outbreak, combined with the large number of people affected, makes a historic outbreak likely today. And tomorrow will have 23.7 million in the Slight and 5.7 million in at least a Moderate. That's a total of over 17 million people in a tornado threat during the two days! If there were ever a time that people in the city need to prepare, it's now.

Preparation is simple, as Henry said in his video today. Know where your evacuation area is where you'll be during the day and night, and know where your family should meet if a tornado strikes your city and cuts off roads.

*While the true cause of the unusually deadly Spring is undetermined, my opinion is that it is likely a combination of unusually strong tornadoes due to La Nina, and increasing population in these areas. These types of outbreaks have probably happened before (although it may have been more than 50 years), so it's likely not Climate Change.

I saw a really hi-def photo of those exact clouds yesterday. I've never seen anything like it and can't imagine how anyone might think it to be "normal."

124 Dead as More Tornadoes Head Towards Joplin, Missouri

By RICHARD ESPOSITO, LEEZEL TANGLAO, KEVIN DOLAK and MICHAEL MURRAY
May 24, 2011

The death toll from the monster tornado that struck Joplin, Mo., rose to at least 124 today, even as a new system of deadly storms moved across the Midwest.

Two tornadoes passing through Oklahoma left at least two people dead and destroyed 30 or more houses, Canadian County Sheriff Randall Edwards said. Dozens of people were missing about 30 minutes after the storms hit.

News of the storm system gave the search for survivors in Joplin new urgency.

The storms are predicted to move into the Joplin area between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. tonight, according to Bernie Rayno, expert senior meteorologist at Accuweather.com.

The city is still staggering from the EF-5 tornado that tore through the city on Sunday, the deadliest single tornado in more than 50 years.

In light of this thread and having taken a few steps back allowing for a wider view than I have been seeing recently, I began to reflect on what I read here and observed on Sunday afternoon prior to the storm.

The clouds. On Sunday, while watching the skies I observed several areas of clouds which had a ribcage looking pattern. My buddy and I commented that those were strange. Then, yesterday afternoon, I took a screen shot of the satellite image and it looked very similiar to what I had observed two days prior. Last night we had more severe weather upon us. Take a look at this picture and let me know if you think this was haarp related or not. I believe this guy has stumbled on to something here.
