Osama Bin Laden dead - will Al Qaeda detonate nuclear bomb now, as threatened?

Shortly after 9/11, Al Qaeda had warned to set off a “nuclear hellstorm” if Osama bin Laden is ever captured or killed, according to U.S. government documents that were leaked just last month by Wikileaks.

Wikileaks' files show that al Qaeda's senior leader Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who was detained and interrogated, had spilled the beans that the terrorist group had, indeed, hidden a nuclear bomb in Europe and that it would be detonated if Osama bin Laden is captured or killed.

There has even been talk among terror chiefs of smuggling chemical weapons into England.

TERROR warlords are ready to nuke Britain in revenge for Osama bin Laden’s death, it was feared last night.

Al-Qaida chiefs have warned they have hidden a dirty bomb in Europe to be detonated if their leader was killed or captured.

And they were promising to bring a “nuclear hellfire” to the west. The chilling threat emerged during the interrogation of terror chiefs held in Guantanamo Bay.

Following Osama bin Laden’s death at the hands of US special forces, Brits and Americans have been told to expect atrocities targeting millions.

Brit-born hate preacher Anjem Choudary, 44, yesterday warned the UK there will be “another 7/7-style terror attack”.

And with the threat of a nuclear bomb emerging, security chiefs are now on red alert.

'Dirty bomb' bigger threat than war: Army

NEW DELHI: More than full-blown conventional wars with Pakistan or China, India at this point in time is faced more with unconventional threats emanating from jihadi outfits getting hold of "dirty" nuclear bombs, crippling cyber-attacks and "hybrid forms of warfare".

This was the hard-nosed assessment of the Indian defence establishment after defence minister A K Antony inaugurated the Army and IAF commanders' conferences here on Monday.

Army chief General V K Singh, in fact, was quite categorical that "the major concern" at the moment was the ongoing "attempts" by"non-state actors" to acquire weapons of mass destruction (WMDs).

magine this: Three jihadist groups in Pakistan—Al Qaeda, the Taliban and Lashkar-e-Taiba (“LET”)—forge an operational alliance to steal a nuclear bomb from the Pakistani arsenal in order to destroy a major Western city. Pursuant to the plan, LET—which carried out the Mumbai attacks—destroys the Taj Mahal and attacks the Indian Parliament, precipitating a state of nuclear alert between India and Pakistan, whose intelligence agency is the chief sponsor of LET.

When a Pakistani convoy moves a bomb from its secret storage facility to an Air Force base near the border, a group of Pakistani Taliban—directed by Al Qaeda and tipped off by a military insider—attacks the convoy and steals the bomb. From there, Al Qaeda has several routes for smuggling the bomb to America, Europe, or Israel.

This is not a Bondian fantasy. What is so frightening about this scenario is its realism: every detail is of grave concern to the national defense and intelligence communities. But almost as disturbing is how little most Americans know about this threat.
