DNA: How they determine Osama bin Laden really is Osama bin LadenBy Eryn Brown, Los Angeles Times 4:34 PM PDT, May 2, 2011 Analysts used a number of methods to identify the body of Osama bin Laden after the raid early Monday in Pakistan. One of these was genetic kinship analysis, a method of typing DNA that has been in common use for many years, often helping to identify crime victims and settle questions about paternity. The technique was used to identify those killed during the 9/11 attacks, as well as victims of Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Frederick Bieber, a medical geneticist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and professor at the Harvard Medical School, explained how the process works. Details about the tests performed on Bin Laden's DNA are not yet available. But in general, Bieber said, people performing DNA identifications try to compare a body or body part to a known reference sample from the individual being identified — a biopsy, a blood sample, maybe even cells collected from a toothbrush. When a reference sample isn’t available -- as it doesn't appear to have been for Bin Laden -- indirect identification is based on DNA collected from one or more close biological relatives. Once samples from all sources are in hand, analysts isolate a bit of DNA from each sample, make lots of copies of it, and then process the copies through a machine that analyzes genetic markers -- DNA fingerprints -- that have been passed down through a subject's family. Typically, Bieber said, DNA tests examine around 15 of these markers. By looking at similarities and differences among samples, analysts are able to calculate how likely is it that two or more people are related. They also take into account how common or rare shared markers are in the general population. “If you share rare alleles [forms of a gene], it’s more likely you’re related,” Bieber said. There is a very small chance that any two random people would share genetic markers. The likelihood that three related people would randomly have the same markers is less. The likelihood that four would is even less, and so on. “The more relatives, the better for the math,” Bieber said. It typically takes several hours to complete each step of the analysis process, Bieber said, though he noted that in high-profile cases like this one, law enforcement agencies might already have genetic profiles of the relatives available -- which means they’d only have to complete one additional test. High-priority tests can be expedited, he added.

a news source on television, i think fox news, stated that bin laden's sister had recently died of cancer and her brain was confiscated and held for possible dna matching. sounds pretty damn fishy to me.

I heard this "news" yesterday - and as a DNA scientist the first words out of my mouth were - what did they compare it to?
Its all bollocks of course - as is "the burial at sea" - yeah right, in Pakistan? What sea? Nice way to make sure no one discovers there is no body!
My take - cover for the major f**k up of killing Gadaffis grandkids - and / or they are gonna pull another FF and they needed a BIG event to blame it on.
We all know he has been dead for ever already - stoopid fools will buy anything!

Also . . . further ponderings.
Once he was "dead" is his body then not the "property" of his family? Why would the US mil give him a muslim burial at sea? Which i believe is not a muslim tradition anyways.
Re. Brain confiscating . . . maybe this offers some insight into the weird "heads on a plane" story that appeared to go no where !

Bumped all.
No DNA was done.
WHY! This body was not that of BinLaden.
The reamins were dumped at sea, proof eaten by the fish.
This op was on paper for months, pre arrainged and set up patsys.
Depite the sealscams, no film of any consequence have been shown.
Hollywood could learn lessons from these high placed rats.
The have given the people(sheeple) a carrot to chew on , a so called victory.Wiggle the flag Johny.
The stick will be forthcoming.
The on going WARS have been back burnered. The smoke and mirrors.
A FF can now be justified as as a resut of the boogey mans murder. We are all aware their goal is the perpetuation of the wars and domestic domination, this scon is furthering their plan.

They will use this for three things as far as i can see . . .
1) it keeps obamas pre election promise to "get" OBL and that may help his campaign
2) it will in some twisted way boost the GWOT
3) it will allow for another grand FF against UK / US OR another country that they want to bring in . . .
Everyone prepared? They will need to step it up spectatularly to get over the sheeples inertia and "we`ve seen it all before"attitudes, they will need another BIG ONE
planes / trains etc all been done to death, i think next attack - based on what i have read and the trends is going to be either a "body cavity" bomb somewhere very crowded OR a dirty bomb - low grade radioactive - it could even be higher grade radioactive - where was that thing i read, it said that 8 SADAMs (small nukes used to take out big structures) had gone awol from i believe Russia.
A chemical attack also a possibility - a bio one less likely - the perps will know it might well snowball and bite them in the ass.

i have been unsuccessful in finding any other information regarding his sister and/or her brain. either way, it's terribly preposterous. even if i weren't a skeptic, or a conspiracy nut, or whatever it is they're calling free-thinkers these days, it's just plain ignorant to believe something without a shred of proof.

I do indeed remember that story. After all the investigating that members did, I realised all they really had to do was look at the Federal express driver's log and see the address of the building where he had to pick up the parcel. But I think the heads came from hopeful, but now dead, Mexicans who crossed the local drug lords. Forgive me for digressing.... but it saved me from posting those old film clips from THEY SAVED HITLER'S BRAIN again ! LOL |
