here are a few gems from this Stasi legislation...........
*** Roving, warrantless wiretaps of virtually EVERY form of electronic communication used by U.S. citizens.
*** Secret federal searches without warrants OR knowledge of the residents.
*** Blanket warrants for the search and seizure of all library records, without naming individual suspects or providing probable cause.
*** Judicial warrants replaced with “National Security Letters” signed by unaccountable Obama Administration bureaucrats and gag orders for those served with these letters which make it illegal to tell anyone about it -- including your spouse and your priest!
*** Drastic expansion of the definition of “domestic terrorism,” which is sure to include gun owners.
*** Expands asset seizure to permit the taking of assets from anyone “suspected” of terrorism, even if that person is NEVER charged or sent to trial.
*** Lone wolf provisions which allow the government to spy on ANYONE even if they’re not associated with a terrorist organization or foreign national, without due process or notification.

Probably not, and lamestream media is avoiding the topic almost completely. not a mention of it in hours that I've noted. But they collude with the government at every turn. I was expecting them to pull a false flag during the super bowl to justify making it perm...but so far they haven't...makes me wonder if they will bother, or if they will just push it through in a media blackout because they don't care anymore.

sample letters, might as well use them. I am a constituent and I urge you to stand up for my civil liberties tomorrow by voting NO on H.R. 514, Rep. Sensenbrenner's bill to extend the expiring provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act until December 8, 2011.
The last time Congress renewed the expiring PATRIOT powers, in February 2010, it was with a promise to fully consider and debate a range of proposed PATRIOT reforms before the next renewal deadline. The need for reform has never been more pressing, as mounting evidence demonstrates that the government has routinely exceeded or abused its surveillance powers under the statute. Just last week, the Electronic Frontier Foundation's new "Patterns of Misconduct" report -- based on thousands of documents obtained using the Freedom of Information Act -- provided new evidence detailing a decade of rampant FBI abuse of its power to issue National Security Letters, a power that was broadly expanded by the PATRIOT Act.
But now, in a legislative sneak attack, the House's leaders have placed a straight reauthorization bill (H.R. 514) on the suspension calendar for a vote on Tuesday. The bill contains NO reforms, will be voted on with NO debate, and there will be NO opportunity for Representatives to propose amendments that would add critical new oversight and accountability provisions to rein in unconstitutional and oft-abused PATRIOT powers.
As a constituent, I ask that you strongly oppose this rushed renewal of PATRIOT powers without any reform and without any debate. Congress should not be rubber-stamping the Justice Department's surveillance wish list, but should instead be doing its duty to act as a check on the Executive Branch. What America needs now is strong oversight by Congress, not an abdication of its role as a co-equal branch of government.
Please stand strong for my rights and vote "NO" on the PATRIOT extension bill (H.R. 514) when it comes to a vote on Tuesday, and demand meaningful PATRIOT reform before considering any PATRIOT renewal. https://secure.eff.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=homepage&page=UserAction&id=461The Patriot Act, as it currently stands, gives virtually no protection to the privacy of innocent Americans regarding wiretapping and eavesdropping. With no criminal trial ever resulting from the Records provision of the Patriot Act, it simply is not needed. Any searches of "persons, houses, places, and effects" should be conducted under the Fourth Amendment with probable cause, a warrant and by proper authorities.
Surveillance of innocent citizens, wiretapping, data mining, and warrantless searches are the marks of a totalitarian state and have no place under the Constitution, the law of our land.
Please help preserve the freedom and liberty given to us by our Founding Fathers by voting "No" on the continued or expanded use of the provisions of the Patriot Act.
The Patriot Act is the most UN-AMERICAN law ever passed in the U.S. This truth about it is self evident, there is no denying it.
Oppose and vote NO on H.R. 514 - To extend expiring provisions of the USA PATRIOT Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005 and Intelligence Reform of Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 relating to access to business records, individual terrorists as agents of foreign powers and roving wiretaps until December 8, 2011

WASHINGTON — A multimillionaire House Republican who owns thousands of shares of BP stock has no plans to recuse himself from a congressional investigation related to the Gulf oil spill or from votes on Capitol Hill that could affect his investments in the oil company. Rep. James Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin has avoided directly criticizing BP for the spill itself. At the same time, he has watched his BP stock tank in value.
Worth more than $251,000 just a few years ago, Sensenbrenner’s 3,604 shares of BP PLC stock had plunged in value to just $118,000 by the end of trading Thursday. That’s roughly half their value the day before the April 20 oil spill. Sensenbrenner has said his net worth is about $10 million.
The No. 2 Republican on the House Judiciary Committee and a former chairman, Sensenbrenner has kept a low profile on the issue, but now he’s coming out swinging: He has written a letter to President Barack Obama questioning BP’s actions and the adequacy of the White House response — but refrains from directly criticizing BP for the spill.

The "Dems" main reason for arguing against it? They aren't allowing amendments... I've only seen one or two who argued it violates peoples rights or the Constitution.

The Patriot Act has proven to be one of the most ineffective programs for preventing terrorist attacks and addressing matters of real national security that Congress has ever foisted upon the people. However, under this same Patriot Act, it is law-abiding Americans who have been the targets of invasive and unconstitutional laws, in direct conflict with the Bill of Rights, in their own homes and businesses, on the streets, in airports, mass transit stations, and in their private correspondence and financial transactions . The Patriot Act has specifically gutted the Fourth Amendment, particularly the requirements for probable cause, oaths, and warrants. And the Patriot Act is a clear violation of the Congressional oath of office, one that demands office holders to uphold the rights and civil liberties guaranteed under the Constitution. Please put an end to the existing and ever-expanding domestic spying program by letting the sun go down on the Patriot Act this February of 2011. The "papers please" mentality of Congress is appalling and un-American. Uphold the Constitution: Vote "Nay" on extending or reauthorizing the provisions of the Patriot Act. https://secure.eff.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=homepage&page=UserAction&id=461
