Vaccinations and Autism
http://www.healing-arts.org/children/autism-overview.htm

Dr. Andrew Wakefield, a Gastroenterologist at the Royal Free

Hospital in London, England, discovered a possible connection between autism and viral infection associated with the MMR vaccination. The damage from autism is thought to be provoked by the an allergic type reaction initiated by the body’s reaction to the vaccine. This auto-immine response could also affect DPP-IV, reducing its levels, thereby connecting vaccines to the opioid theory of autism.

For more information, please see The Mechanism of Encephalitic Damage from Vaccines by Val Valerian.

Myelination is an essential part of human brain development. Nerves can only conduct pulses of energy efficiently if it is covered with myelin. Like insulation on an electric wire, the fatty coating of myelin helps keep the pulses confined and maintains the integrity of the electrical signal so that it has a high signal-to-noise ratio. When the insulation on a wire is damaged or destroyed, the flow of electrical current may be interrupted and a short-circuit occurs. See Colorado Health Net's MS Definitions, Facts, and Statistics for more information.

Oligodendrocyte cells give white matter its color by manufacturing myelin. If myelin falls into disrepair, nerve axons cease to function, even though they themselves aren't damaged. Protecting oligodendrocytes after brain or spinal cord injury might keep nerve cells intact." See Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine's article on new findings on nervous system damage for more information.

At birth, relatively few pathways have myelin insulation. Myelination in the human brain continues from before birth until at least 20 years of age. Up until the age of 10 or so, vast areas of the cortex are not yet myelinated, and up to the age of 20, large areas of the frontal lobes are not yet myelinated 21.

Myelination begins in the developmentally oldest parts of the brain, like the brain stem, moving to the areas of the nervous system that have developed more recently, like the prefrontal lobe and cortex. Myelin spreads throughout the nervous system in stages which vary slightly in each individual. Impairment of myelination can alter neural communication without necessarily causing severe CNS damage.

The prefrontal portions of the cerebrum have a profound influence on human behavior 22. If an individual is injected with vaccines, most of which have adjuvants like mercury and aluminum compounds, as well as foreign proteins (some from other species in which the vaccines were grown) and biological organisms, unprotected nerves may be impacted. The argument for a role of vaccines in the development of autistic disorders hinges on these biological effects upon nerves, damaging them in a way that influences behavior and learning patterns.

The history of studies on vaccines began in 1922 when a smallpox vaccination program caused an outbreak of encephalitis, with a secondary result of Guillain-Barre Syndrome, an ascending paralysis ending in death. The polio virus produces a breakdown of the myelin shealth, called poliomyelitis, which results in paralysis. Encephalitis, whether caused through disease or as a result of vaccination, can cause demyelination of the nerves. For more information, see again The Mechanism of Encephalitic Damage from Vaccines. "In regions in which there is no organized vaccination of the population, general paralysis is rare. It is impossible to deny a connection between vaccination and the encephalitis which follows it. 23"

In 1935, Thomas Rivers discovered "experimental allergic encephalomyelitis," or (EAE). Until then, it was assumed that encephalitis was caused by a viral or bacterial infection of the nervous system. Rivers was able to produce brain inflammation in laboratory monkeys by injecting them repeatedly with extracts of sterile normal rabbit brain and spinal cord material, which made it apparent that encephalitis was an allergic reaction. EAE can explain the association of allergies and autoimmune states with encephalitis.

In 1947, Isaac Karlin suggested that stuttering was caused by "delay in the myelinization of the cortical areas in the brain concerned with speech." In 1988, research by Dietrich and others using MRI imaging of the brains of infants and children from four days old to 36 months of age have found that those who were developmentally delayed had immature patterns of myelination.

In 1953 it was realized that some children's diseases, measles in particular, showed an increased propensity to attack the central nervous system. This indicated a growing allergic reaction in the population to both the diseases and the vaccinations for the diseases.

In 1978, British researcher, Roger Bannister, observed that the demyelinating diseases were getting more serious "because of some abnormal process of sensitization of the nervous system."

Some investigators believe that this increased sensitization of the population is being enhanced by vaccination programs.

Demyelinating disorders: A medical condition where the myelin sheath is damaged. The myelin sheath surrounds nerves and is responsible for the transmission of impulses to the brain. Damage to the myelin sheath results in muscle weakness, poor coordination and possible paralysis. Examples of demyelinating disorders include Multiple Sclerosis (MS), optic neuritis, transverse neuritis and Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS).

My late ex-wife had that.  Often wondered if she had acquired it through a vaccine.

Had to help nurse her back to health over a year so she could walk again.  (She passed away several years ago of something else.)

I wondered at the time if she had signed up for an experiment for cash.  (She was an alcoholic.)

Those adjuvants and, of course, the mercury pereservatives are bad news.

And the very first vaccines, experimental in the extreme, sometimes used even bread crumbs as "adjuvants".  Think about it.

They pumped me full of vaccines as a soldier during the run-up to the first Gulf War.  I'm lucky I never had to deploy and also that I never came down with the syndrome.  At the time I was so alseep I wanted to deploy, now I know better.

Swine flu jab link to killer nerve disease:
Leaked letter reveals concern of neurologists who are aware of the factual link between vaccines and Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1206807/Swine-flu-jab-link-killer-nerve-disease-Leaked-letter-reveals-concern-neurologists-25-deaths-America.html
By Jo Macfarlane Created 9:29 PM on 15th August 2009

A warning that the new swine flu jab is linked to a deadly nerve disease has been sent by the Government to senior neurologists in a confidential letter. The letter from the Health Protection Agency, the official body that oversees public health, has been leaked to The Mail on Sunday, leading to demands to know why the information has not been given to the public before the vaccination of millions of people, including children, begins. It tells the neurologists that they must be alert for an increase in a brain disorder called Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), which could be triggered by the vaccine. GBS attacks the lining of the nerves, causing paralysis and inability to breathe, and can be fatal. The letter, sent to about 600 neurologists on July 29, is the first sign that there is concern at the highest levels that the vaccine itself could cause serious complications. It refers to the use of a similar swine flu vaccine in the United States in 1976 when:

-More people died from the vaccination than from swine flu.
-500 cases of GBS were detected.
-The vaccine may have increased the risk of contracting GBS by eight times.
-The vaccine was withdrawn after just ten weeks when the link with GBS became clear.
-The US Government was forced to pay out millions of dollars to those affected.

Concerns have already been raised that the new vaccine has not been sufficiently tested and that the effects, especially on children, are unknown. It is being developed by pharmaceutical companies and will be given to about 13million people during the first wave of immunisation, expected to start in October. Top priority will be given to everyone aged six months to 65 with an underlying health problem, pregnant women and health professionals. The British Neurological Surveillance Unit (BNSU), part of the British Association of Neurologists, has been asked to monitor closely any cases of GBS as the vaccine is rolled out. One senior neurologist said last night: ‘I would not have the swine flu jab because of the GBS risk.’ There are concerns that there could be a repeat of what became known as the ‘1976 debacle’ in the US, where a swine flu vaccine killed 25 people – more than the virus itself. A mass vaccination was given the go-ahead by President Gerald Ford because scientists believed that the swine flu strain was similar to the one responsible for the 1918-19 pandemic, which killed half a million Americans and 20million people worldwide.

The swine flu vaccine being offered to children has not been tested on infants

Within days, symptoms of GBS were reported among those who had been immunised and 25 people died from respiratory failure after severe paralysis. One in 80,000 people came down with the condition. In contrast, just one person died of swine flu. More than 40million Americans had received the vaccine by the time the programme was stopped after ten weeks. The US Government paid out millions of dollars in compensation to those affected. The swine flu virus in the new vaccine is a slightly different strain from the 1976 virus, but the possibility of an increased incidence of GBS remains a concern. Shadow health spokesman Mike Penning said last night: ‘The last thing we want is secret letters handed around experts within the NHS. We need a vaccine but we also need to know about potential risks. ‘Our job is to make sure that the public knows what’s going on. Why is the Government not being open about this? It’s also very worrying if GPs, who will be administering the vaccine, aren’t being warned.’ Two letters were posted together to neurologists advising them of the concerns. The first, dated July 29, was written by Professor Elizabeth Miller, head of the HPA’s Immunisation Department.

It says:

‘The vaccines used to combat an expected swine influenza pandemic in 1976 were shown to be associated with GBS and were withdrawn from use. ‘GBS has been identified as a condition needing enhanced surveillance when the swine flu vaccines are rolled out. Reporting every case of GBS irrespective of vaccination or disease history is essential for conducting robust epidemiological analyses capable of identifying whether there is an increased risk of GBS in defined time periods after vaccination, or after influenza itself, compared with the background risk.’

The second letter, dated July 27, is from the Association of British Neurologists and is written by Dr Rustam Al-Shahi Salman, chair of its surveillance unit, and Professor Patrick Chinnery, chair of its clinical research committee.

Halted: The 1976 US swine flu campaign

It says:

‘Traditionally, the BNSU has monitored rare diseases for long periods of time. However, the swine influenza (H1N1) pandemic has overtaken us and we need every member’s involvement with a new BNSU survey of Guillain-Barre Syndrome that will start on August 1 and run for approximately nine months. Following the 1976 programme of vaccination against swine influenza in the US, a retrospective study found a possible eight-fold increase in the incidence of GBS. Active prospective ascertainment of every case of GBS in the UK is required. Please tell BNSU about every case. You will have seen Press coverage describing the Government’s concern about releasing a vaccine of unknown safety.’

If there are signs of a rise in GBS after the vaccination programme begins, the Government could decide to halt it.  GBS attacks the lining of the nerves, leaving them unable to transmit signals to muscles effectively. It can cause partial paralysis and mostly affects the hands and feet. In serious cases, patients need to be kept on a ventilator, but it can be fatal. Death is caused by paralysis of the respiratory system, causing the victim to suffocate....The HPA said it was part of the Government’s pandemic plan to monitor GBS cases in the event of a mass vaccination campaign, regardless of the strain of flu involved.

Vaccine experts warned that the letters proved the programme was a ‘guinea-pig trial’

Dr Tom Jefferson, co-ordinator of the vaccines section of the influential Cochrane Collaboration, an independent group that reviews research, said: ‘New vaccines never behave in the way you expect them to. It may be that there is a link to GBS, which is certainly not something I would wish on anybody. ‘But it could end up being anything because one of the additives in one of the vaccines is a substance called squalene, and none of the studies we’ve extracted have any research on it at all.’ He said squalene, a naturally occurring enzyme, could potentially cause so-far-undiscovered side effects. Jackie Fletcher, founder of vaccine support group Jabs, said: ‘The Government would not be anticipating this if they didn’t think there was a connection. What we’ve got is a massive guinea-pig trial.’ Professor Chinnery said: ‘During the last swine flu pandemic, it was observed that there was an increased frequency of cases of GBS. No one knows whether it was the virus or the vaccine that caused this. ‘The purpose of the survey is for us to assess rapidly whether there is an increase in the frequency of GBS when the vaccine is released in the UK. It also increases consultants’ awareness of the condition.

Even though there is no real threat, global corporations are forcing poisonous vaccinations

‘This is a belt-and-braces approach to safety and is not something people should be substantially worried about as it’s a rare condition.’ If neurologists do identify a case of GBS, it will be logged on a central database.  Details about patients, including blood samples, will be collected and monitored by the HPA. It is hoped this will help scientists establish why some people develop the condition and whether it is directly related to the vaccine. But some question why there needs to be a vaccine, given the risks. Dr Richard Halvorsen, author of The Truth About Vaccines, said: ‘For people with serious underlying health problems, the risk of dying from swine flu is probably greater than the risk of side effects from the vaccine.  ‘But it would be tragic if we repeated the US example and ended up with more casualties from the jabs. ‘I applaud the Government for recognising the risk but in most cases this is a mild virus which needs a few days in bed. I’d question why we need a vaccine at all.’ Professor Miller at the HPA said: ‘This monitoring system activates pandemic plans that have been in place for a number of years. We’ll be able to get information on whether a patient has had a prior influenza illness and will look at whether influenza itself is linked to GBS. ‘We are not expecting a link to the vaccine but a link to disease, which would make having the vaccine even more important.’ The UK’s medicines watchdog, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, is already monitoring reported side effects from Tamiflu and Relenza and it is set to extend that surveillance to the vaccine. A Department of Health spokesperson said: ‘The European Medicines Agency has strict processes in place for licensing pandemic vaccines.  ‘In preparing for a pandemic, appropriate trials to assess safety and the immune responses have been carried out on vaccines very similar to the swine flu vaccine. The vaccines have been shown to have a good safety profile. ‘It is extremely irresponsible to suggest that the UK would use a vaccine without careful consideration of safety issues. The UK has one of the most successful immunisation programmes in the world.’

Doctors will commonly misdiagnose these symptoms as a stroke

When Hilary Wilkinson woke up with muscle weakness in her left arm and difficulty breathing, doctors initially put it down to a stroke. But within hours, she was on a ventilator in intensive care after being diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. She spent three months in hospital and had to learn how to talk and walk again. But at times, when she was being fed through a drip and needed a tracheotomy just to breathe, she doubted whether she would survive. The mother of two, 57, from Maryport, Cumbria, had been in good health until she developed a chest infection in March 2006. She gradually became so weak she could not walk downstairs. Doctors did not diagnose Guillain-Barre until her condition worsened in hospital and tests showed her reflexes slowing down. It is impossible for doctors to know how she contracted the disorder, although it is thought to be linked to some infections. Mrs Wilkinson said: ‘It was very scary. I couldn’t eat and I couldn’t speak. My arms and feet had no strength and breathing was hard. I was treated with immunoglobulin, which are proteins found in blood, to stop damage to my nerves. After ten days, I still couldn’t speak and had to mime to nurses or my family. ‘It was absolutely horrendous and I had no idea whether I would get through it. You reach very dark moments at such times and wonder how long it can last. But I’m a very determined person and I had lots of support.’ After three weeks, she was transferred to a neurological ward, where she had an MRI scan and nerve tests to assess the extent of the damage. Still unable to speak and in a wheelchair, Mrs Wilkinson eventually began gruelling physiotherapy to improve her muscle strength and movement but it was exhausting and painful. Three years later, she is almost fully recovered. She can now walk for several miles at a time, has been abroad and carries out voluntary work for a GBS Support Group helpline. She said: ‘It makes me feel wary that the Government is rolling out this vaccine without any clear idea of the GBS risk, if any. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone and it certainly changed my life. ‘I’m frightened to have the swine flu vaccine if this might happen again – it’s a frightening illness and I think more research needs to be done on the effect of the vaccine.’

H1N1 Swine Flu Vaccine Insert Admits
It Causes Guillain-Barre Syndrome,
Vasculitis, Paralysis, Anaphylactic Shock And Death

http://thebirdflupandemic.com/archives/h1n1-swine-flu-vaccine-insert-admits-it-causes-guillain-barre-syndrome-vasculitis-paralysis-anaphylactic-shock-and-death

The package insert for the Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine manufactured by Novartis has been leaked on the Internet. According to that package insert, the vaccine (based on an earlier vaccine product known as Fluvirin) is known to cause a whole host of very nasty side effects such as guillain-barre syndrome, vasculitis, anaphylactic shock and even death. Of course anyone who has been studying vaccine side effects already knows that it causes all of these things, but the story here is that the insert for the swine flu vaccine itself is admitting all of these things. The insert says that it was updated during September 2009, so it reflects the very latest information. You can read the package insert for this vaccine for yourself right here.....

http://www.fluscam.com/Vaccine_Package_Inserts_files/Novartis_A-H1N1_2009_Monvalent_VaccinePackageInsert_BasedOn1980Approvalfor%20Fluvirin_UCM182242.pdf

The following is a list of some of the very nasty side effects that the vaccine package insert admits to.....

*Local injection site reactions (including pain, pain limiting limb movement, redness, swelling, warmth, ecchymosis, induration)
*Hot flashes/flushes
*Chills
*Fever
*Malaise
*Shivering
*Fatigue
*Asthenia
*Facial edema.
*Immune system disorders
*Hypersensitivity reactions (including throat and/or mouth edema)
*In rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions have lead to anaphylactic shock and death
*Cardiovascular disorders
*Vasculitis (in rare cases with transient renal involvement)
*Syncope shortly after vaccination
*Digestive disorders
*Diarrhea
*Nausea
*Vomiting
*Abdominal pain.
*Blood and lymphatic disorders
*Local lymphadenopathy
*Transient thrombocytopenia.
*Metabolic and nutritional disorders
*Loss of appetite.
*Arthralgia
*Myalgia
*Myasthenia
*Nervous system disorders
*Headache
*Dizziness
*Neuralgia
*Paraesthesia
*Febrile convulsions
*Guillain-Barré Syndrome
*Myelitis (including encephalomyelitis and transverse myelitis)
*Neuropathy (including neuritis)
*Paralysis (including Bell’s Palsy)
*Respiratory disorders
*Dyspnea
*Chest pain
*Cough
*Pharyngitis
*Rhinitis
*Stevens-Johnson syndrome
*Pruritus
*Urticaria
*Rash (including non-specific, maculopapular, and vesiculobulbous).

Doesn't all that sound wonderful? Doesn't that make you want to run out and sign up to get vaccinated? Now keep in mind that this is just what the H1N1 swine flu vaccine insert admits to. What else will this vaccine do to you if you take it? That is something to think about my friends.  So is there anything that you can do to protect yourself if you are forced to take the swine flu vaccine? Yes, there most certainly is. Dr. Russell Blaylock is an expert on vaccines and their side effects, and he has distributed a list of things that you can do to reduce the nasty side effects of the swine flu vaccine.....

More than 250 dead fish were found on a 150 feet stretch of of shoreline near an irrigation ditch just north of Willox Street in Fort Collins Saturday. The fish, which were mostly sucker fish with some brown trout, were discovered by Fort Collins resident Bob Jackson. Jackson immediately informed local authorities, who sent out representatives from the department of wildlife. “I walked the shoreline on the north side of Willox and took some samples that I turned into the health lab,” said Shane Craig, district wildlife manager and game warden for Fort Collins. Craig said the fish most likely swam into the irrigation ditch as the temperatures turned mild and became trapped in the canal after being released from the Horsetooth Reservoir. When the water levels in the canal dropped, so presumably did the oxygen levels, Craig said. “We’re pretty confident (the cause) is just low oxygen levels,” Craig said.      http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?edis=BH-20110130-29363-USA

Another example involving autoimmune ‘molecular mimicry’ is when the immune system has been sensitized to attack myelin, the insulating fatty coating around nerve fibres which insures the smooth relay of nerve signals. The body would continue to make myelin in order to replenish and repair the protective sheath around its nerve endings. But says Matsumoto, “In the act of doing so, the body immunizes itself against itself, administering over and over again what amounts to a booster dose of something that the immune system now wants to get rid of. This vital constituent (myelin) is now the enemy, and the immune system is now programmed to obliterate it in an endless loop of self-destruction” – the process involved in MS (multiple sclerosis), and ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Which is exactly what happened to my daughter!!!  She was infected with her infant son's live vaccine ....CELL SHEDDING OF THE LIVE VIRUS!!   They can deny it all they want...IT HAPPENS!!  It is in the body waste of the infant.  Torn cuticles or cuts on the hands are a way of entrance during diaper change....YET THEY DO NOT SAY TO WEAR GLOVES.....THIS IS EVIL!!!

A Glimpse into the Scary World of Vaccine Adjuvants
By Edda West  - Published in VRAN Newsletter - Winter 2005
Vran.org contact link is at the bottom of their home page.    www.vran.org

Adjuvants are formulated compounds, which when combined with vaccine antigens intensify the body's immune response.  They are used to elicit an early, high and long-lasting immune response.  "The chemical nature of adjuvants, their mode of action and their reactions (side effect) are highly variable in terms of how they affect the immune system and how serious their adverse effects are due to the resultant hyperactivation of the immune system. While adjuvants enable the use of less *antigen to achieve the desired immune response and reduce vaccine production costs, with few exceptions, adjuvants are foreign to the body and cause adverse reactions", writes Australian scientist Viera Scheibner Ph.D,   (1)

It is quite obvious now that the same autoimmune mechanisms are responsible for the same diseases in human beings and that the extent of such damage is enormous and keeps increasing with more and more vaccines added to to "recommended" schedule.

Indeed, vaccines such as the pertussis vaccine are actually used to induce autoimmune diseases in laboratory animals, the best and most publicised example being the so-called experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE). When, as expected, these unfortunate animals develop EAE from the pertussis vaccine, the causal link is never disputed; yet when babies after vaccination with the same vaccines develop the same symptoms of EAE as the laboratory animals, the causal link to the administered vaccine is always disputed and usually considered "coincidental". Lately, innocent parents and other carers have been accused of causing the symptoms of vaccine darn age by allegedly shaking their babies.

A state Game and Fish Commission official says more dead drum fish - but far fewer than the number reported in a previous fish kill - have been found in the Arkansas River near the lock and dam at Ozark, in the same area where thousands of dead fish were found a month earlier. A news release Monday from the wildlife agency said a fish kill spotted Friday involved only about 500 fish, compared with 83,000 in a fish kill reported Dec. 29. G&FC assistant fisheries chief Chris Racey said that, as with the previous fish kill, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will test sample fish. Testing on fish from the Dec. 29 kill did not determine a cause, but ruled out parasites, disease or toxic chemicals.   http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?edis=BH-20110201-29383-USA

Even as the Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) scare shows no signs of abating, another mysterious illness has raised its ugly head. This disease has claimed the lives of 50 peafowls in various parts of the state. Forest officials have sent two samples to the National Institute of Virology in Pune to ascertain the cause of bird deaths. Earlier, forest department thought the cause of death was food poisoning. However, when reports of deaths started trickling in from separate regions of the state, foresters got worried. The first case was reported from Wankaner on January 26. Thirteen peacocks were found dead at one spot. The forest department sent a team led by the deputy forest officer to investigate the cause of death. The foresters believed the birds were killed by pesticide poisoning from eating seeds or crops in fields nearby. Soon, four peacock deaths were reported from Gir and six peacocks reportedly died in Vadodara. One peacock died and two others fell ill at the ministers’ enclave in Gandhinagar on Saturday. The dead peacock was found at bungalow number 36, the official residence of Jaswantsinh Bhabhor. On collating the data, forest officials realised the gravity of the situation. They sent samples from Wankaner and Vadodara to a laboratory at a Vadodara college. However, the lab was unable to produce a report. Following a meeting on Monday, the foresters sent two samples to NIV in Pune. One of the samples is from Gandhinagar, the other is from Wankaner. Principal secretary (Forest and Environment) S K Nanda said, “We are more alert as the peacock is our national bird.” Gir has 2,000 peacocks, Gandhinagar has 400 while Ahmedabad has 1,000 peacocks. Since Gir sanctuary is spread over a vast area, there is a possibility that more peacocks have died but their bodies have not been found. Nanda added, “Till date, 50 peacocks and peahens have died in the state. Wankaner, Vadodara and Gir are just some of the spots were bird deaths were registered. On looking at individual cases, the foresters earlier thought the birds died due after eating contaminated food. However, as the figure grew, we decided to send the samples to NIV.” The report is expected in the next three-four days.   http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?edis=BH-20110201-29379-IND

Carlee, thx for keppin up witht the animal deaths whihc are indeed ongoing.  With so much going on with Egypt it is easy to forget about this.

Good work.

I 2nd that.  You are providing a valuable resource and have my thanks.

Ten pilot whales died when about 82 of the mammals beached at the top of New Zealand's South Island on Friday, officials said, warning that the others could not be refloated immediately. 'It is an ordeal for them to be exposed stranded like that and be exposed in the sun,' Conservation Department spokeswoman Trish Grant said. 'Unfortunately some just do die.' 'We'd be optimistic that there are surviving whales tomorrow that we can refloat.' The stranding occurred at Farewell Spit on Golden Bay, about 150 kilometres west of the tourist city of Nelson. Local residents initially reported about 30 whales were stranded and the number grew through the afternoon. About 100 department of conservation staff were working to keep the whales cool and hydrated in the afternoon sun, Grant said. The next high tide is due around midnight but it would be too dangerous to refloat the whales then and staff have wait until the morning again to carry out the rescue attempt. Grant said: 'It's something that has occurred reasonably often in Golden Bay with pilot whales, and just even the shape of the bay could mean they kind of get a bit caught with the spit coming round, so it could just be navigational error.' Pilot whales up to six metres long are the most common species of whale seen in New Zealand waters.    http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?edis=BH-20110204-29430-NZL

A Canadian museum launched an investigation Friday into the sudden death of 20,000 bees on display in a glass-encased hive. <b>"All 20,000 bees died within 48 hours,"</b> Amanda Fruci, publicist for the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. &#8220;The cause is being investigated but we know for sure that <b>it wasn't colony collapse syndrome</b> because that involves bees leaving a hive and never coming back, and in this case they all died in the hive.&#8221; In normal times, bee communities naturally lose around 5 percent of their numbers. But with the syndrome known as colony collapse disorder (CDD), a third, half &#8212; sometimes even 90 percent or all &#8212; of the insects can be wiped out. In the United States, government figures released last year showed a 29 percent drop in beehives in 2009, coming on the heels of declines of 36 and 32 percent in 2008 and 2007. Mysterious decimation of bee populations has also been reported in Europe, Japan and elsewhere in recent years, threatening agricultural crops that depend on the honey-making insects for pollination. Thousands of visitors had viewed the bees at work in a specially designed glass hive in the Royal Ontario Museum's popular hands-on biodiversity gallery over the past two years. They were perfectly healthy until last week when they suddenly died. The museum has already ruled out starvation or errors by staff as causes of death, but said poor ventilation, a parasite or too few worker bees to keep the comb warm over the winter may be to blame.   http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?edis=BH-20110213-29547-CAN

Well, that certainly seems to disprove that the bees are simply wandering off, it also calls into question that the Earth's magnetic field is disrupting their navigation and that is how they are dying -- though maybe the magnetic field is affecting them in some other way.

Interesting info.

The exhibit had been running successfully for 2 years.  Poor ventilation/heating is bullshit.  A parasite is, I suppose, possible, but I have trouble envisioning one that would kill the entire colony at once.  And CCD can definitely be ruled out here.

My first question, is did visitors have any way to introduce something into the exhibit?

There&#8217;s an increasingly smelly fish-and-duck soup at the mouth of Little River as thousands of dead shad and several dozen dead ducks blanket the water&#8217;s surface, causing some alarm among residents. &#8220;It seems a little strange,&#8221; said Mike Stoyshin, who noticed the mass of dead gizzard shad in the river while going for a walk Tuesday evening. When he got a little closer, he realized there were several dead mallard and merganser ducks floating among the fish. &#8220;I know that everybody says the shad die off every year but a dozen ducks dead in the same pile is kind of concerning,&#8221; said Stoyshin. Ministry of Natural Resources biologist Andy Cook dispatched a team from the Wheatley MNR office after being notified of the dead waterfowl by The Star Wednesday morning. Seven mallards, one merganser and two Canada geese carcasses were retrieved and will be sent to the Canadian Co-operative Wildlife Health Centre in Guelph for analysis. While Cook avoided prejudging the test results, he said the fish and waterfowl likely died for the same reason: the harsh winter temperatures this year. &#8220;With the severity of the winter, their normal food sources may be inaccessible,&#8221; said Cook. &#8220;Certainly the fields, with a hard freeze, the grains they would normally feed on are not accessible. This has been one of the more severe winters we&#8217;ve had in several years.&#8221; Cook said the Canadian Wildlife Service has been noting many species of ducks they have banded are appearing extremely malnourished this year. Ducks do not normally eat shad or any other fish during the winter, preferring grains. But with the hard, frozen ground that food source is likely less available.

In Michigan, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment is analyzing gizzard shad that have died in similar mass kills this winter. There is a disease that has been appearing in gizzard shad known as viral hemorrhagic septicemia that is found in fish in Europe, Japan and the coasts of North America. The disease, which was first identified in Ontario in Lake Ontario in 2005, is found in several species including shad. Michigan authorities are awaiting test results on the fish from the University of Michigan. Young shad are also susceptible to temperature extremes. Cook said there is nothing to indicate anything has happened to the fish or the ducks that is potentially harmful to humans. Daily Ganatchio Trail jogger George Schoebe, 77, was taken aback by the quantity of dead fish and ducks in the water, and the odour. &#8220;It&#8217;s terrible,&#8221; said Schoebe. &#8220;I&#8217;ve never seen that before. So many dead fish, all at the same time. There are also dead ducks on top of the fish. It has been getting worse and worse. More and more dead fish. I never noticed that before. It smells.&#8221; The mass of dead fish and waterfowl is being held at the mouth of the river by a dam of ice that is likely to melt in the coming days, then allowing the fish and ducks to float into the Detroit River. Cook said the death of so many ducks may be alarming but is not considered &#8220;catastrophic.&#8221; &#8220;That&#8217;s certainly a die-off but it&#8217;s not at a catastrophic level,&#8221; said Cook. &#8220;Generally large bird die-offs that occur from eating fish occur during the summer as a result of botulism.&#8221; Ward 7 Coun. Percy Hatfield said there&#8217;s not much the city can do in such a situation. <b>&#8220;It&#8217;s unfortunate, and it can be alarming, but it is nature,&#8221; said Hatfield.</b>    http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?edis=BH-20110218-29616-CAN

The National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), Public Health Ministry, and Kenya Wildlife Service are investigating the deaths of fish in Mara River. Conservationists suspect the deaths that started last week [week of 7 Feb 2011] might have been caused by agro-chemicals from farms, which drain into the river. Hoteliers in Masai Mara Game Reserve are now expressing fear that the chemicals might kill animals that depend on the river. "The deaths could have been caused by agro-chemicals from large scale farms on the upper side of the river. The chemicals might also kill hippos, crocodiles, and other animals that drink water from the river," said Ben Kipeno, a conservationist from the northern side of the reserve. Mr Kipeno said on Wednesday [16 Feb 2011] there were unconfirmed reports that apart from fish, a crocodile and a hippo have already succumbed to effects of the chemicals. He urged the Government to rein in farmers along the river who use potent chemicals and claimed that despite several complaints to NEMA no action has been taken. Officials from KWS [Kenya Wildlife Service] who were dispatched from Nairobi took samples of the fish to the Government chemist for further tests to ascertain the cause of the deaths. When The Standard visited the river, dead fish were floating with scavengers, including the Marabou stork, feeding on them. The Narok South NEMA officer in charge Gabriel Tambushi said initial reports had indicated that more than 5 million fish were killed at the confluence of the seasonal Moyan River in Transmara with the Mara following a heavy flood. "The sudden change of weather that resulted in a heavy mist covering the water surface, inhibiting fish and other animals that depend on the river from breathing, might have been the cause of the deaths," said Tambushi. He did not rule out poisonous agro-chemicals from farms, which depended on the Mara River for irrigation.          http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?edis=BH-20110219-29624-KEN

Peculiar geese deaths baffle wildlife officials
Ailment afflicting birds around Lake Erie

Several dozen Canada geese along western Lake Erie's shoreline have recently died or are presumed dead while others have become so sick they cannot hold up their heads, fly, or maintain control of their motor functions.

State wildlife investigators are stumped, awaiting word on tests that a national wildlife laboratory in Wisconsin has been doing on some of the dead birds.

"They will fall out of the sky and have trouble staying upright," said Dave Sherman, a biologist at the Crane Creek Wildlife Research Station the Ohio Department of Natural Resources operates in Ottawa County.

Symptoms began manifesting themselves first with mallards about two or three weeks ago.

Wildlife officials say they have no idea what is killing thousands of ducks and geese along Lake Erie and the Maumee River. When they first discovered the trend a few weeks ago, only a few birds were infected. As of Friday, around 200 birds have been linked to the mystery illness. Infected birds simply throw their heads back and lose their motor skills before they die. No one knows how far it could spread. "This may be something that's not at all going to affect people, but it may be, and we need to figure it out to know what's going on," said Nature's Nursery's Laura Zitzelberger. So far, labs tests confirm that the birds did not die of the avian flu. State wildlife officials say they may never know what is causing the deaths, but that it could be a natural occurrence.         http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?edis=BH-20110219-29632-USA

An alert has been sounded in Tripura after the outbreak of bird flu in a State-owned poultry at R K Nagar near here, officials today said. &#8220;The Tripura government has sounded an alert in the state following outbreak of avian influenza in R K Nagar farm (about 6 km from here) and about 3,000 ducks and chicken were culled there yesterday,&#8221; Principal Secretary of Animal Resource Development department Sriram Taranikant told reporters. He said a team of experts is in the state to oversee the process of culling and preventive measures being taken to contain its spread. Mr. Taranikant said that as preventive measures poultry and egg markets within 10 km radius of the R K Nagar farm were closed, restrictions imposed on the movement of personnel working in the farm, strict surveillance was being maintained in the farm and adjacent areas and the entire area being sanitised. He said culling of chickens continued today in adjacent areas of the farm. Following instructions from the Central expert team, the State government decided to cull poultry birds within 3 km radius of the infected farm.

thanks for the warning carlee. . . .

as a point of ?interest to some, most likely more to those in the UK

I was on the beach near me yesterday at formby point (google it ) its on the north west of the UK coast, about 15 miles north of liverpool city.

I found all over the beach lumps of oil - but it was all "jellied" if that makes any sense?

It was all over the place, smallish and largish "limps" of it - all on the "strand line" where the outgoing tide abandoned it, and all manner of other shells and usual stuff .. .

I went and found a park ranger (the beach is par tof a nature reserve - they  have rangers to look after the place) they were stunned, they said its likely from the gulf coast?

All I know is I have never seen it on the shore line before, and i have been on that beach, weekly, for over 20 years !

Horrified bird lovers demanded an urgent investigation last night after the mystery deaths of SIXTEEN swans in just six weeks. The &#8216;unprecedented&#8217; number of fatalities has wiped out around 30 per cent of the population along the River Avon in Stratford-upon-Avon. Now wildlife experts are calling for immediate tests on the dead bodies &#8211; after raising fears that Bird Flu may be responsible. Swan rescue volunteer and former Stratford Mayor Cyril Bennis said: &#8220;This is the worst case of deaths I&#8217;ve seen in 30 years of working with swans in Stratford. &#8220;I picked up three this week, two from Stratford and one from Luddington and it was quite distressing. &#8220;I&#8217;ve collected all the dead birds, some young and some old, many have been very thin. &#8216;&#8216;Is it lead poisoning or is it Bird Flu? We just don&#8217;t know &#8211; but the problem is not going away. &#8216;&#8216;I think we are looking at a virus and have called for the river to be checked. But all this costs money. &#8220;I have also had to be checked for Avian Influenza because I&#8217;ve been taking the birds to the vets.&#8217;&#8217; He added: &#8216;&#8216;Our swan population cannot sustain this many deaths, as we usually only experience about four deaths on average a year. &#8220;Something needs to be done, as there are now only 35 birds left on our stretch of the River Avon. &#8216;&#8216;It is so sad to see these beautiful, strong, birds dying, especially when you can&#8217;t see anything wrong with them.&#8217;&#8217;

Vets at the Arden Forest Veterinary Group have been investigating, but the deceased swans they have received have been dead too long for a successful post-mortem. Nick Blayney, owner of the practice, which is a honourary practice of the Swan Trust, said: &#8220;At the moment we have unprecedented levels of swan mortality. &#8216;&#8216;As yet we haven&#8217;t ruled anything out. &#8220;The weather could be the cause, but we must be vigilant to Avian Influenza. &#8216;&#8216;We need to rule this out. Tests on birds for Avian Influenza are still going on all over the country, but at the moment we are open-minded to the cause. &#8220;We need residents to let us know if they find any dead swans, so we can retrieve them safely. &#8216;&#8216;It is preferable if they simply tell us where they are and don&#8217;t try to bring them in themselves, although the risk of human disease is low.&#8221; Wychbold Swan Rescue founder Jan Harrigan has been rescuing swans for 36 years. But she said the sky-high death rate means there are no plans for any new release programmes any time soon. &#8220;We have 150 birds at the sanctuary and are not planning to release any into that area of the River Avon until we know what is causing these deaths,&#8217;&#8217; she said. &#8216;&#8216;Usually we release the young cygnets into the River Avon at Stratford because it is wide, but it would be silly to do so at the moment.    http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?edis=BH-20110220-29640-GBR

More than 100 heads of cattle were found dead at a farm in Sri Cheeding. The owner, Suppiah Mariappen, believed the 120 cows valued at RM240,000 had been poisoned. He said he last fed the animals at about 5pm on Saturday and two hours later many of them were found dead. I was shocked to find them frothing from the mouth with blood oozing out of their anus. Some were already dead. Those which were still alive, died soon after. I suspect they were poisoned, he said yesterday, adding that he had 200 heads of cattle and was now left with only 80. His suspicion, he said, was based on the fact that the animals had not been let loose for the past three days as he was busy repairing the fence surrounding his farm. All the cows were about four years old and they were to have been sold for RM2,000 each in August. Suppiah said the land he occupied belonged to the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation and on Jan 31, he had received an eviction letter to vacate the land before Feb 7, but he had disregarded the order.I was told to vacate the land but I did not adhere to the order as I do not have an alternative place to move the animals to. Now, this has happened. I believe someone could have poisoned the animals but I will leave it to the police to investigate, said Suppiah, who has lodged a report at the Kuala Langat police headquarters. Kuala Langat Barisan Nasional chief coordinator and Agricultural Development Council chairman Datuk Sulaiman Mohd Karli, who visited the farm yesterday, said he hoped the police and the Veterinary Services Department will investigate the matter speedily. Kuala Langat Veterinary Department officer Amran Shair said initial investigations showed a possibility of poisoning. The blood samples taken from the affected cows would be sent to the

All members of a pod of 107 pilot whales that stranded on a remote New Zealand beach have died, including 48 that were euthanized, the government's conservation department said Monday. The stranded whales were discovered by hikers Sunday near Cavalier Creek on Stewart Island, off the southern tip of New Zealand's South Island. Conservation department staff flew to the area and found that about half of the group were already dead and the others were dying, the agency said in a statement. The whales were well up the beach and the tide was receding, leaving little chance of keeping them alive until more rescuers could arrive. "Euthanasia is a difficult decision, but is made purely for the welfare of the animal involved to prevent it from prolonged suffering," said Brent Beaven, the official who led the team at the site. Pilot whales are about 13 feet to 20 feet (4 meters to 6 meters) long and are the most common species of whale in New Zealand waters. Whale strandings are common in New Zealand. Last month, 24 pilot whales died after stranding on the North Island. In December 2009, more than 120 whales died in two separate beachings near Golden Bay and on the east coast of North Island.             http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?edis=BH-20110221-29654-NZL

Avian flu H5N1 has reportedly spread gradually across several villages in Garut, West Java, since the beginning of the year, causing the sudden deaths of 300 chickens and sparking fears that residents could also contract the virus. "Of course this threatens the lives of the residents living there," Garut Animal Husbandry Agency official Dida Kardiana said, adding that the agency has sent officials to provide vaccinations for fowls belonging to residents. "We found chickens that had already died. We immediately burned them and then buried the remains," he said, as reported by kompas.com. He said that the agency had repeatedly informed residents about safety procedures. "We keep disseminating the information because the residents do not comply when we ask them," he said.

More Than 100 Whales Strand Themselves in New Zealand
As authorities scrambled to pick up the pieces after a second major earthquake hit the southern New Zealand town of Christchurch on Tuesday, government workers further south had just finished handling an altogether different kind of natural disaster. (via Ecocentric)

Over the weekend, more than 100 pilot whales were found on a remote beach on Stewart Island off the larger South Island. By the time the Department of Conservation reached them, half the stranded whales were dead, and the remaining live animals had to be euthanized.

Whale strandings are not uncommon in New Zealand; a major stranding happens in the southern part of the country every 4 or 5 years, according to the Department of Conservation. Scientists around the world aren't sure why whales beach themselves, but DOC spokesman Andy Roberts says in southern New Zealand, the two likely reasons are either that the pod has followed a sick animal on shore to help it, and become stuck in the shallow waters, or that the pod has made a navigational error and swam ashore. (He says there was no connection being made between the earthquake and the stranding.)   http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20110222/wl_time/httpnewsfeedtimecom20110222morethan100whalesstrandthemselvesinnewzealandxidrssfullworldyahoo

Not long got back from my walk  - more "oil balls" on the strand line today after the tide turned.

There were some rangers working on the strand line a mile or two up the beach, they had nets but could not see what they were doing and they had cones out so i couldnt get close.

I`m going to speak to them tomorrow and see what they have to say.

I will also bring some of the globs of gunk back with me and photo them for you all to see.

Around 33,000 broiler chickens were culled Sunday at a poultry farm in the town of Kadogawa, Miyazaki Prefecture, after the 13th case of bird flu in the prefecture was confirmed the previous day, prefectural officials said. Sunday&#8217;s cull brought the total number of chickens slaughtered at poultry farms in the prefecture to around 990,000 since the first case of infection was confirmed in the city of Miyazaki on Jan. 22. In total, 22 cases of avian influenza infection have been confirmed at poultry farms across Japan including the 13 cases in Miyazaki Prefecture.

More dead swans found in the Grand Canal in Dublin, reports were received. They are concentrated on the 7th level from Portobello to Suir Road Bridge. A number were taken from the water for analysis last week. A number of sick birds were also found and were taken to the DSPCA depot for treatment. Another half dozen birds have been found dead this AM. Initial reports suggest that the problem is NOT Avian Flu but is more likely some form of botulism or other bacterial infection. The source is as yet unknown but a number of dead and rotting sea-fish were found in the area and that is one possible source. Swans are known to be susceptible to this infection and similar cases have been reported from other areas in the past. There were also suggestions that the dredging programme may have disturbed some bacteria in the sediment but this is seen as unlikely given the infected birds are some distance from the dredging site.         http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?edis=BH-20110307-29799-IRL

REDONDO BEACH (KTLA) -- Millions of dead fish have washed up in King Harbor near Redondo Beach, and officials are now trying to figure out why.

The dead fish, including anchovies, sardines and mackerel, are apparently floating up to the surface from the ocean floor.

KTLA's Sky5 captured images of the fish completely coating the water's surface in Basins 1 and 2 of the north side of King Harbor.

Fish and game officials have not released a statement about what might have killed the fish. Officials were at the harbor investigating.

There are reports that a red tide may have driven large numbers of the fish into the harbor, where they were killed by a lack of oxygen.

The outbreak of blue-ear pig disease in Burma has now led to the death of more than 1,000 pigs, said Amrapura Township Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department officer Dr. Tun Myint Soe. ;The disease spreads very fast, he said. ;Now thousands more pigs have been infected   He said the department has not been able to collect exact statistics. The disease was first reported on February 15. The virus is spreading in Aungmyetharsan, Chanayetharsan, Mahaaungmye, Chanmyatharsi, Pyigyitagun, Amrapura, and Madaya and Sagaing townships, officials said. We have no treatment for this disease so were trying to control it by bio-technology preventive methods and by providing awareness campaigns to the townships, said Tun Myint Soe. We told people to spray insecticide and disinfectant around a pigsty, to boil their pig feed, to wear footwear before entering a pigsties and to use quick lime if they can not afford pesticide and disinfectant . The World Health Organisation for Animal Health has issued an emergency warning in Burma on the spread of the disease, also known as Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus. The disease causes reproductive failure in breeding stock and respiratory tract illness in young pigs. According to Wikipedia, it was first reported in 1987 in North America and Central Europe. The disease is characterised by pigs walking with a limp and body tremors. Later, their flesh turns a brown colour and they die, said Tun Myint Soe. The Mandalay Division Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department is distributing insecticide and disinfectant to pig farms and small scale domestic pig owners free of charge and providing bio-technology control methods during field trips to inspect farms. The disease cannot be communicated to humans who consume the meat of infected pigs. Though the sale of pork has not been banned, residents in Mandalay told Mizzima that the consumption of pork has been effected.   http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?edis=BH-20110310-29837-MMR

Mass animal deaths continue as thousands of dead walleye wash up in Lake Erie

Wednesday, May 18, 2011 by: Jonathan Benson, staff writer

(NaturalNews) Experts are trying to figure out why thousands of dead walleye fish have been washing up on a roughly 25-mile stretch of Lake Erie between the northern Ohio cities of Toledo and Port Clinton over the past few weeks. The mysterious deaths add to the millions of others that have occurred since the beginning of 2011, most of whose cause of death has never been conclusively determined.

According to a recent report in The News-Messenger, tens of thousands of fish have washed up on Ohio beaches in recent days, and the majority of them have been between two-and-a-half to three pounds in weight. Some local anglers have told reporters that the sight of these dead fish is highly unusual, and that they appear to be coming from the west.

"I'm hearing thousands or tens of thousands maybe, on the high side," said Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) biologist and program administrator Roger Knight to reporters. "This is something out of the ordinary."

Knight and colleagues are currently investigating the deaths to determine their cause. Several explanations have already been put forth, including unusually cold weather in recent months that may have killed the walleye during their spawning period. Other explanations include overfishing by commercial operations in Canada, and even a mystery virus.

(NaturalNews) An otherwise highly-resilient species of shark, the leopard shark, is turning up dead all over the northern California coast, particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area. According to reports, dozens of leopard sharks have either washed ashore dead since April, or have been found so badly injured and in pain that the creatures were literally pounding their heads into the sand in what some locals said appeared to be suicide attempts.

A report in The Oakland Tribune explains that a California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) necropsy has pinned the deaths on "inflammation, bleeding, and lesions in the brain, and hemorrhaging from the skin near vents," as well as bleeding around internal organs. Based on findings, it appears as though the creatures died a slow and painful death, but experts do not know why the sharks are suffering this awful fate.

Catherine Greer, a resident of Redwood City, was one of the first people to notice some of the dead sharks. She and her 13-year-old son allegedly tried to help push some of the beached, alive sharks back into the water, but "they'd swim right back, thrashing their heads against the shore ... as if they were trying to commit suicide," she said.

Sean Van Sommeran, executive director of the Pelagic Shark Research Foundation, a Santa Cruz-based group that has been tasked with investigating the die-offs, says that when his group first began getting alerts about the sharks, many of them were still alive. But as time went on, the gravely-ill creatures began to wash ashore dead, and since that time there have been hundreds of others that have turned up dead.

"We're only seeing a tiny fraction of what's going on," Sommeran said to reporters, implying that many other creatures further out in ocean waters are likely suffering and dying as well. Considering that leopard sharks are a stronger species than most, there is no telling the extent of animal deaths that is likely taking place.

Initial tests conducted on water samples taken from the Redwood Shores lagoon, one of the areas where sharks were found, revealed nothing out of the ordinary. But Redwood City spokesman Malcolm Smith said the city is paying for additional tests.

Others say the deaths may have been caused by environmental pollution from agricultural runoff, or even from Fukushima radiation.
