The Death of Gareth Williams
http://covertamerica.com/2010/08/29/the-death-of-gareth-williams/
August 29th, 2010

Gareth Williams was a mathematical genius, graduating college at the age of 17, left Cambridge because he had “learned all he could”, and began working for Britain’s MI6 and, occasionally, for the NSA as a top-notch code breaker.  So important was Williams (he supposedly led the charge to capture and decrypt VOIP internet phone calls) that MI6 gave him a high security apartment, less than one mile from headquarters.  It was in this apartment that the lifeless body of Williams was found, crammed into a large duffle bag in his bathtub.

Anytime a high value intelligence agent is murdered there will be rumors and conspiracy theories, and this case is no exception.  Within days of Williams’ murder leaks began making their way to the press suggesting that he was stabbed or shot (the police deny both of these claims), that bondage gear and gay pornography was found in his flat (again, denied by the police), and that £18,000 was removed from his bank account through “complex means”.

A ruling on his death is on hold pending a toxicology report.  Until then, the rumors and intrigue will swirl, and its a pretty safe bet that even then they won’t stop.

How environmentally friendly of him! I am surprised that they did not say that about Annie Le so they would not even have to bother with searching for a post mortem patsy.

Hi Jos, speculation could run wild.
The obvious, he was on the inside, knew the deal inside out, had the dope on the lote of them, thats a dangerous postion to be in.
Secondly, his murder sent a message, and I beleive it was intended to do just that.
Strange that he he had the highest clearence, was boarded in an M16 safe house and the big dogs claim he was on the missing list, no one thought to check his lodgings.?/ SOP, a spin....

Mr. Hunting made the wise choice...

Why Shouldn't I Work for the NSA?

Why shouldn't I work for the NSA?

That's a tough one. But I'll take a shot.

Say I'm working at the NSA, and somebody puts a code on my desk, something no one else can break. Maybe I take a shot at it and maybe I break it. And I'm real happy with myself, 'cuz I did my job well.

But maybe that code was the location of some rebel army in North Africa or the Middle East, and once they have that location, they bomb the village where the rebels are hiding.

Fifteen hundred people that I never met, never had no problem with, get killed.

Now the politicians are saying, "Oh, send in the marines to secure the area", 'cuz they don't give a shit. It won't be their kid over there, getting shot. Just like it wasn't them when their number got called, 'cuz they were pulling a tour in the National Guard. It'll be some kid from Southie over there taking shrapnel in the ass.

He comes back to find that the plant he used to work at got exported to the country he just got back from. And the guy who put the shrapnel in his ass got his old job, 'cuz he'll work for fifteen cents a day and no bathroom breaks.

Meanwhile he realizes the only reason he was over there in the first place was so that we could install a government that would sell us oil at a good price. And of course the oil companies used the little skirmish over there to scare up domestic oil prices. A cute little ancillary benefit for them but it ain't helping my buddy at two-fifty a gallon.

They're taking their sweet time bringing the oil back, of course, maybe even took the liberty of hiring an alcoholic skipper who likes to drink martinis and f**kin' plays slalom with the icebergs, it ain't too long till he hits one, spills the oil and kills all the sea life in the North Atlantic.

So now my buddy's out of work. He can't afford to drive, so he's walking to the f**kin' job interviews, which sucks because the shrapnel in his ass is giving him chronic hemorrhoids. And meanwhile he's starving 'cuz every time he tries to get a bite to eat the only blue plate special they're serving is North Atlantic scrod with Quaker State.

So what did I think? I'm holding out for something better.

I figure: f**k it, while I'm at it why not just shoot my buddy, take his job, give it to his sworn enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby seal, hit the hash pipe and join the National Guard?

I could be elected President.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/7969595/Gareth-Williams-backroom-boy-spy-was-really-a-high-flier.html
29 Aug 2010
...
In 2000, Williams left his Cambridge University course in advanced mathematics because he had already learned all he could. By then, he had also been “tapped” – recruited by GCHQ scouts, who tour universities looking for talent.

No one can be certain why he signed up. It wasn’t the salary. His £40,000 a year was far less than he could have earned in industry. But it is very likely that, like so many of his young colleagues at GCHQ, he was attracted by the challenges, the excitement of working at the centre of events that he would often know about before even the Prime Minister.

Being on the inside track would also have fitted his personality. Williams was the quintessential loner. His former landlady, Jenny Elliot, 71, said last week that “his life was his work”. He was exactly what GCHQ would have wanted.
...
Gareth Williams died without leaving such a trace. Last year, his section leader had told him he was being seconded to the London headquarters of MI6. It was a further sign of his steady progress up the hierarchy at GCHQ.
...
On Tuesday, a second post-mortem will be held: an initial post-mortem proved inconclusive, ruling out stabbing or shooting, with toxicology results still pending. I have been told that the Home Office forensic pathologist will be looking for evidence that Williams was neither stabbed nor poisoned, but smothered to death.

But, apart from Mossad, there are other intelligence services with experts in murder by smothering. They include the Russian SVR and the Chinese Secret Intelligence Service. Terrorist groups are also known to have used the method.

Until the next autopsy report becomes public, those two key questions – who murdered Gareth Williams, and why? – will continue to echo around GCHQ.

https://wikispooks.com/wiki/Gareth_Williams

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/nov/20/gareth-williams-spy-mi6

By September, an exhaustive trawl had come up with some CCTV footage. In the frames released to the public, Gareth Williams saunters by Holland Park tube station in west London at 3pm on 14 August, three days after he had last spoken to his sister.
...
By the end of September, after a second barrage of toxicology tests proved inconclusive, Gareth Williams's body was released and laid to rest in North Wales. On 26 September, the extended Williams clan gathered outside the Bethel chapel in Holyhead to bid farewell. Given the florid rumours that had circulated around his death, they were surprised by the appearance there of Sir John Sawers, head of MI6. Williams had been with his service for less than a year, yet Sawyers told reporters, "I wanted to be here today as the only public face of the Secret Intelligence Service. My deepest sympathies go to the family. Gareth was a hugely talented person, and he was very modest and generous as well. He did really valuable work with us in the cause of national security."

What a difference 30 days make. After an investigation that had failed to turn up the smallest vice, Williams was no longer lampooned but celebrated as a very British spy: modest, capable and known well by no one.

As they buried Gareth, Dr Chris Subbe, speaking for his wife Ceri and the family, recalled how they had laughed and chatted with him at the Ritz, celebrating their marriage and his brilliant career. "The world was ours for the taking," he said. "Yet here I am three months later to the day, trying to describe your rich life with my poor words."

Dead spy was in training for new identity: report
Sat Dec 25, 9:04 pm ET

LONDON (AFP) – A British spy whose body was found padlocked inside a bag at his London flat in August had been training to take on a new identity in the months leading up to his death, a newspaper reported Sunday.

A close friend of Gareth Williams, 31, a codebreaker for Britain's foreign intelligence service MI6, also told the Mail on Sunday paper he was not homosexual and wanted a girlfriend.

Police have suggested his death was linked to London's gay or bondage scene and thousands of pounds worth of women's clothing was found in his flat following his death.

And, how is it we are supposed to know he didn't get a new identity, after all?

Standard operating procedure with MI6.  Almost as if they dress up as a woman and video tape you to be at the highest levels so that they can use it against you if you start talking. It was odd how they thought playing the cross dressing angle would somehow stop people from seeing the fact that MI6 assassinates anyone who speaks out for the British people and exposes the total insanity at the top.

The spy found dead in a sports bag had been given a new identity by his MI6 bosses in the months leading up to his mysterious death.

Gareth Williams, a GCHQ codebreaker on secondment to MI6, had two passports and told his best friend that he was preparing for an undercover operation.

Details of the 31-year-old’s role within the secret services are disclosed today in an interview with his confidante and childhood sweetheart, Sian Lloyd-Jones.

Not related but maybe it is.... Alan Turing...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Turing

Alan Mathison Turing, OBE, FRS (pronounced /ˈtjʊərɪŋ/ TEWR-ing; 23 June 1912 – 7 June 1954), was an English mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst and computer scientist. He was highly influential in the development of computer science, providing a formalization of the concept of the algorithm and computation with the Turing machine, which played a significant role in the creation of the modern computer.[1]
...
During the Second World War, Turing was a main participant in the efforts at Bletchley Park to break German ciphers. Building on cryptanalysis work carried out in Poland by Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki and Henryk Zygalski from Cipher Bureau before the war, he contributed several insights into breaking both the Enigma machine and the Lorenz SZ 40/42 (a Teleprinter (Teletype) cipher attachment codenamed Tunny by the British), and was, for a time, head of Hut 8, the section responsible for reading German naval signals.
...

Turing's homosexuality resulted in a criminal prosecution in 1952 — homosexual acts were illegal in the United Kingdom at that time — and he accepted treatment with female hormones (chemical castration) as an alternative to prison.

He died in 1954, several weeks before his 42nd birthday, from cyanide poisoning. An inquest determined it was suicide; his mother and some others believed his death was accidental.

On 10 September 2009, following an Internet campaign, then-British Prime Minister Gordon Brown made an official public apology on behalf of the British government for the way in which Turing was treated after the war
...
On 8 June 1954, Turing's cleaner found him dead; he had died the previous day. A post-mortem examination established that the cause of death was cyanide poisoning.

When his body was discovered an apple lay half-eaten beside his bed, and although the apple was not tested for cyanide,[52] it is speculated that this was the means by which a fatal dose was delivered. An inquest determined that he had committed suicide, and he was cremated at Woking crematorium on 12 June 1954.[53]

Turing's mother argued strenuously that the ingestion was accidental, caused by her son's careless storage of laboratory chemicals. Biographer Andrew Hodges suggests that Turing may have killed himself in an ambiguous way quite deliberately, to give his mother some plausible deniability.[54] Others suggest that Turing was re-enacting a scene from the 1937 film Snow White, his favourite fairy tale, pointing out that he took "an especially keen pleasure in the scene where the Wicked Witch immerses her apple in the poisonous brew."
...
The logo of Apple computer is often erroneously referred to as a tribute to Alan Turing, with the bite mark a reference to his method of suicide.[67]

Both the designer of the logo[68] and the company deny that there is any homage to Turing in the design of the logo.[69]

They give it  the OL spin, I had to get back to this one.
Lets be realistic, If this guy was a crossdresser or gay you can bet testimony would be in the numbers, photos of draq queens all over the MSM.
His clearence was off the charts, yet he had dissapeared and no one knew where?? No one though to visit his safe house?
This poor slob knew too much!! The slightest sign of dissaproval from the lackeys in the know and they buy the farm. There is only one way out and they have made certain the message has been sent.

'Spy found inside sports bag killed by spooks'

From correspondents in London

31Mar12

A BRITISH spy who was found naked and zipped up in a sports bag in the bathtub of his central London apartment was killed by a government agency "specialising in the dark arts of the secret services," his family's lawyer said today.

The partly-decomposed body of codebreaker Gareth Williams, 31, was found in a large North Face sports bag that had been sealed using a padlock on August 23, 2010.

The case was the subject of wild conspiracy theories after investigations failed to turn up any witnesses and little forensic evidence.

Relatives told Westminster Coroner's Court today they believe a third party was either present when Williams died or broke into his home to destroy evidence.

Sky News cited family attorney Anthony O'Toole, who said, "Our impression is that the unknown third party was a member of some agency specialising in the dark arts of the secret services - or evidence has been removed postmortem by experts in the dark arts."

A hearing ahead of a coroner's investigation also heard how errors in the way DNA evidence was collected caused an 18-month delay in the inquiry into his death.

A spot of DNA was found on Williams' hand shortly after his death in 2010, but the sample was contaminated and was revealed just two weeks ago to match a forensic scientist at the crime scene.

Police also identified a "Mediterranean couple" thought to have visited the apartment, but that has since been ruled out.

The hearing was told that experts agreed the codebreaker - on secondment to MI6 from the UK's Government Communications Headquarters - could not have locked the padlock himself from the inside of the bag.

Theories that emerged when his body was discovered included the possibility he could have been involved in a bizarre sex game that went wrong.

The coroner's investigation will start April 23.

Gareth Williams connection to GCHQ

Quote
Mistakes over GCHQ codebreaker's death crippled inquiry

Inquest into spy-in-a-bag death

By Iain Thomson in San Francisco • Get more from this author

Posted in Crime, 31st March 2012 06:00 GMT

Forensic investigators have apologized for the bungling of the inquiry into the mysterious death of a codebreaker employed by the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).

In August 2010, Gareth Williams, described as a mathematical genius by his peers and employed at GCHQ since leaving university, was found dead in his flat in London. Williams, who had recently qualified for deployment with MI6 – Britain's version of the CIA - was found naked and partially decomposed in a sports bag that had been locked from the outside and placed in the bath.

In the pre-inquest hearing on Friday, the court heard that the investigation into Williams' death had been botched from the start. LGS Forensics said that DNA found on Mr Williams' body was investigated, but later turned out to have been transferred there from one of the forensic scientists investigating the death, and a search of the apartment turned up no clues as to his death.

"Having made further checks, LGC identified the partial profile as matching that of a Metropolitan police scientist who was involved in the original investigation of Mr Williams' home," a LGC spokeswoman said. "The Metropolitan police service was immediately notified. We are sorry for any pain this error may have caused Mr Williams' family."

Lawyer Anthony O'Toole told Westminster Coroner's Court that the family of Mr Williams had still not been told what his actual job was, and would also like to know why MI6 took so long to raise the alarm after he failed to turn up at work. The body showed no signs of violence, toxicology screenings were negative, and there was no sign that he had tried to get out of the bag.

"The impression of the family is that the unknown third party was a member of some agency specializing in the dark arts of the secret services – or evidence has been removed post-mortem by experts in the dark arts," he said, according to the Guardian.

While the police initially said that they thought it was unlikely that Williams had managed to lock himself in the bag, they did not rule it out. At the time of his death there was speculation that the death was part of a sex game gone wrong, and the coroner Fiona Wilcox said the likelihood of Williams being able to get in the bag and lock it would be central to the inquest, which is due to be held next month.

Backlash grows over GCHQ 'snooping'

    Apr 1 2012

David Cameron is facing a growing backbench backlash over plans for a major expansion of the Government's powers to monitor the email exchanges and website visits of every person in the UK.

Under legislation expected in next month's Queen's Speech, internet companies will be instructed to install hardware enabling GCHQ - the Government's electronic "listening" agency - to examine "on demand" any phone call made, text message and email sent, and website accessed, in "real time" without a warrant.

A previous attempt to introduce a similar law was abandoned by the former Labour government in 2006 in the face of fierce opposition from the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats as well as civil liberties groups. Senior MPs from both coalition parties lined up to condemn the move by ministers to revive the plan.

GCHQ recruits eight universities to counter cyber attacks
Intelligence agency GCHQ has selected eight universities as collaboration partners to improve government and industry cyber security.

By Richard Tyler
10:00PM BST 01 Apr 2012

The Treasury has admitted it has been under sustained attack by foreign intelligence agencies, with George Osborne saying that wider government received up to 20,000 malicious emails every month.

Ministers set aside £650m of new money last autumn to better protect key infrastructure and defence assets from “cyber warfare”, with half that going to GCHQ.

The Government hopes that encryption techniques and other expertise that is not considered top secret might have commercial applications and wants to see more companies working with universities.

Science minister David Willetts said the eight universities – which include Bristol, Belfast, Southampton and Imperial College London – were selected for the strength of their existing research in the field.

Date rape drug found in the body of spy Gareth Williams

Traces of the date rape drug GHB were found in the body of Gareth Williams, the MI6 spy, an inquest heard on Thursday, as experts said they were unable to rule out poisoning as the cause of death.

MI6 spy Gareth Williams's body was found in a similar North Face bag

By Tom Whitehead, Security Editor

7:43PM BST 26 Apr 2012

Small amounts of the Class C drug, which has sedative effects, were found in post mortem tests.

Denise Stanworth, a toxicologist, told the inquest that the traces had probably occurred naturally, which is common shortly after death, but it was possible that Mr Williams had taken the drug.

A panel of forensics experts which reviewed the post mortem findings was unable to rule out the use of certain poisons, such as cyanide and chloroform, because the body was so decomposed, the inquest heard.

Miss Stanworth said it was unlikely that Mr Williams had been given some “old fashioned poison” but she could not rule out other “volatile agents”.

The inquest at Westminster Coroners’ Court has heard how Mr Williams’s naked body was in a padlocked holdall in his London flat for more than a week before it was discovered in August 2010.
