An article in the journal Media, Culture & Society Jan 2010 notes two very interesting "unconnected" facts:

1) the pioneers of electromagnetic/radio research were actually attempting to build telepathic communication machines to broadcast voices into people’s heads.

2) During the exact same period came the rise of the "mental disorder” known as schizophrenia – in which afflicted persons often report hearing ...  voices inside their heads.

I'd love to read more about this, but it seems I have to sign up and pay for access.

Bump for interest!

(sounds oddly familiar, though. I'm sure this same subject has been posted before)

How bizarre. But why would it only afflict a few people?

Who knows? I post it only as fodder for interesting speculation or research for those who have the time.

NOte: Sorry, I didn't realize the online version of this journal is behind a pay wall. I discovered the journal in hard copy form while walking through a university library. Short of hacking the site, your best bet is contacting a local university or reference librarian, like in olden times.
