The freedom to say, "to hell with it!!"

« on: October 20, 2010, 04:10:26 AM »

Hi,

My OH has some kind of chest infection or something (NO sore throat, but coughing alot and spitting up lots of phlegm). He went to the doctors who prescribed antibiotics, and this didn't work, I am not looking for medical advice but does anyone have any ideas that we can try he has been like this for 3 weeks now with no change  Embarrassed
He has been steaming his head and gargling with salt water but neither has helped in the long term only in the short term.

Oh. A bit of background:

We are in the UK...if that makes a difference.  Huh
All our food is organic apart from bread.
We drink Wine.
We don't smoke.
We don't do drugs.
We don't do fast food or fizzy drinks or sweets etc.
We take vitamin pills daily.
We eat over the 5 fruit and veg a day.
We have pets, One cat and two rats, but I don't think it's an allergy because we have had them for years now with no problem.
We are changing to raw milk today when the order arrives.

Thanks in advance.

Another fellow UK member here, welcome strikhedonia Smiley

Probably virus-caused inflammation, I think your hubby may just have to let the body deal with it - anything that boosts the immune system is useful. Green vegetables for example, honey\lemon taken with hot water, clove of garlic with a meal etc etc.

Have you turned your central heating on recently?

You could try a tablespooon of honey + a tablespooon of quality blackcurrent jam, disolve in a quarter pint of hot water and add no more than 2 drops of tea tree essence

This remedy works very well for kennel cough in dogs which often appears during the 'changing of the seasons' this time of year here in the UK

Urmmm no, should we? We always keep it off for the longest time we can, like a mini-challenge. We stay warm via clothing, blankets, hot water bottles etc. But it's not been that cold recently anyway.

Coughs are often benefited by a short fast (2 days) or a diet using warm vegetable broth and soupy grains.

Oil of garlic (teaspoon) and Cayenne (2 teaspoons) every four hours will aid in clearing as well

I laughed for half an hour thinking of one responder's kidney stone experience as he related it in the comments below that story:

" When we got there, the triage nurse bumped me to the head of the queue. I was put on a gurney and given a shot of what in medical circles is probably called something like hydroxymethylasparto-mercuriohoohahahhaaaawoo-1,5-zingomagicocraptamine, but on the street, 'The Embalmer'. I became a pink fluffy cloud and floated out of the window. "

lol,  Cheesy

Thanks all, we have lots to work towards, started with the soup before dinner tonight, and stocked up on some tins (I know I am working on that!) so that we can have one everyday to see if it works. We add garlic to everything so I upped that a bit to...I will let you know how we get on.

My guy got the same thing INSTANTLY when we returned to the US after a trip outside the country (literally, it took less than an hour of being in Florida for him to catch whatever it was). It didn't go away for more than two months, even after antibiotics. It eventually cleared up but I was worried there, too, for a minute.
Hope he's well soon!

Before I start, I'm going to warn you that this may sound crazy.  There are a couple of herbs that you can use to help deal with lung infections.  One is called Indian Tobacco (or Lobelia), and the other is Mullein.  They have different effects.  Indian Tobacco makes it easier to bring up phlegm, and kills the infection.  Mullein stops the coughing, and was used for this purpose for tuberculosis. The catch? You smoke them.  I know that smoking for lung health goes against everything that we have been taught by the mainstream medical establishment, but this works.  Neither contain any nicotine, though Indian Tobacco is known to help with addictions. Here's some more information:

Hi UK here too
Your OH is not alone - several family members have the same thing here
I put it down to the change in the weather - maybe - or the chemtrails which have been heavy recently - more likely.

He will be better off fighting off whatever it is himself if he can.
A good dose of garlic won`t hurt, top up zinc / iron too.

I`m a believer in Not stopping the cough - its his body getting rid of the goo, extra pillows might help him sleep and some "vicks"

Also, and this is important !
Milk makes phlem productyion worse! Its late I can`t recall the exact mechanism but honestly milk will make him worse (try it and see) it means no milk in tea etc too - atleast until he is better.

plenty of hot drinks and any expectorant you trust to speed up the process.

Are you, yourself not sick? I havent had it but 2 of my kids and my hubby have.

Its "something in the air"

I`m in nw UK - you guys?

The fat content in dairy products can thicken mucus that is already present. Generally eating dairy products with less fat content is helpful.  Drinking plenty of water will help to thin the mucus so that it moves more easily.

Also, cayenne I mentioned can be made into tea.

Hi,

We have been doing the Cayenne and extra garlic in soup the last two days, and he is a lot more awake so will continue with that.

We don't have much dairy, no cheese, we do have butter on sandwiches, and no milk in tea, actually we only drink milk on cereal. OH eats more than me, as I don't have sandwiches or cereal so have almost zero milk intake, which could be why his coughing is worse.

I haven't been ill with it at all.

I am in the SE!

Try Hyssop.  (Organic) I use essential oil and the organic leaves.  Make a little parcel of them (wrap in a coffee filter) and place in a pan with a inch or so of boiling water and a couple of drops of hyssop essential oil.  Take it off the heat, put your head over the steam and cover your head with a towel. Alternate breathing from your mouth/nose. Inhale with your mouth = goes into your lungs, with your nose=into your sinuses.  It may make your eyes water a bit.  Also seemed to help my complexion.  Go figure.  Grin

Both EG & I went through this gawdawful illness
during September.

Sounds very similar to what your OH has.

I went the antibiotics route.
Then loads of supplements
to build up my immune system.
As I am already immune compromised,
I loaded up on the garlic,
zinc,
vitamin C,
honey & apple cider vinegar.

EG only used ibuprophen for the inflammation.
He did continue smoking
high quality roll your own tobacco
that does not have the additives
that cigarettes have.

There were many nights when I propped myself up in bed
and actually slept in a sitting up position.

Last week,
I talked to my local health food shop owner
who advised that next time,
use a few drops of tea tree oil
in a bowl of boiling water,
with the towel over my head routine,
similar to grneyelady.
No need for wrapping packages up,
as the oil will disperse.

Note: Should also help his complexion, as we use tea tree oil regularly for the occasional spot.
That is "pimple" for you yanks & rebs !

PS We, too, thought that this might have been related to chemtrail spraying,
as we had aching symptoms, similar to flu, in addition to respiratory propblems.
I swear, sometimes I felt that I was breathing under water !
