but wait, it's worse than that:

CDC survey of Gulf residents finds 50% of households experiencing respiratory issues within the PAST 30 DAYS — Feds suggest to “focus on mental health”[/b]
September 27th, 2010 at 08:50 AM
 Press-Register, September 27, 2010:

Excerpts:

An emergency survey* conducted door-to-door in coastal Alabama confirmed elevated levels of depression and stress following the oil spill and also detected possible effects, such as respiratory ailments…

At least half of the households queried in both counties had at least one member experiencing respiratory issues within the past 30 days. …
Respondents were encountering more physically or mentally unhealthy days than people in earlier statewide surveys.

“The increased prevalence of negative quality-of-life indicators, depressive symptoms and symptoms of anxiety,” according to the CDC report, “suggest that resources should focus on mental health intervention and follow-up surveillance.”

* The survey, by the Centers for Disease Control’s national Center for Environmental Health, is based on responses from 128 households in south Mobile County and 168 in south Baldwin, both in Alabama.

And now MSM is picking up on the story and running with the Government's "It's all hypochondria" story:

Survey: Depression up 25 percent on Gulf Coast since BP oil disaster
By Brett Michael Dykes
Tue Sep 28, 11:18 am ET

In something of a less than  shocking revelation, a Gallup survey of 2598 Gulf Coast residents finds that reports of depression in the region have increased 25 percent since the April 20 Deepwater Horizon explosion and its aftermath.

The eight-month survey actually began back in January, before the disastrous impact of the BP oil spill. Researchers contacted Gulf residents in 25 counties and parishes that face the Gulf of Mexico, from Texas in the west to Florida in the east.

Researchers found that "residents of Gulf Coast-facing counties reported 25.6 percent more clinical diagnoses of depression in the period after the oil spill compared with before it." Gallup also constructed a "Well-Being Index" -- a measure that seeks to determine the relative degree of happiness or stress people experience  on a day-to-day basis. Employing that index, the survey found that "across each of these daily mood metrics, residents of Gulf Coast-facing counties experienced measurable increases in these negative emotions that their inland counterparts and residents of non-Gulf Coast states did not."

Councilman Jeff Silvers receives phone calls in the middle of the night. The citizens on the line tell him that BP is spraying oil dispersant over Perdido Pass “from an airplane with no lights,” he said, or that workers on boats are covertly dumping it into the water. …

A frequent concern is reports and rumors of toxic dispersant in the air.The Feds and BP consistently stated of late that no dispersants have been used since mid-July. News reports indicate otherwise...

This one is a mixed bag -- not sure what to make of it.  Maybe COREXIT does have behavioral effects:

Pharmacist: Something is “making people behave differently” — more and more with “thick throats” and headaches, nausea

Stress of oil spill still lingering in Orange Beach,

Press-Register, September 27, 2010:

Excerpts

Councilwoman Pattisue Carranza, a pharmacist, said that she had seen more and more people seeking prescriptions and medications this summer for “thick throats.”

There’s something, she said, that’s “making people behave differently” and “making people cough and giving people headaches and nausea.
