Evacuation of North Carolina Barrier Island Ordered Ahead of Hurricane Earl

A powerful Hurricane Earl threatened to sideswipe much of the East Coast just ahead of Labor Day, worrying countless vacationers who planned to spend the traditional last week of summer at the beach.

North Carolina officials late Tuesday announced the first evacuation would be Ocracoke Island beginning at 5 a.m. Wednesday. Tourists would be ordered to leave the barrier island accessible only by ferries, but those who live there year-round have the option to stay.

That one looks really bad...

Thank god I'm not in any hurricane path any more... it was so stressful...immediate evacuation sucks.
Then we go to Houston and Ike hit us. And let me tell you something... fat houstonians get really pissy after not eating.

I hope the hurricane goes away and not go up the coast....

I moved from that area last spring.Been tracking Earl to see if he makes a sudden western turn ahead of schedule. If so-I'm out of here.As a precaution hitting the store for supplies tomorrow because either way we're"getting some weather"here in S.C.
The mandatory evac is for the tourists, locals get to chose for now.

Be safe!  I think it is going to hit New England, myself.  We all of the sudden had unusually hot weather, to draw it up.  The waters from NJ all the way to Maine have been warm this summer.
