Somebody recently got one, and on the back inside cover on the left side of the passport.

It actually gives people warning "not to bend, get wet, or subject your passport to high levels of heat because there is sensitive electronics inside the passport itself".

Oh, and for "ha ha's", or to be "cute", I don't really know, maybe to "tease" people.

On the back inside over on the right side of the passport.

There is an actual pic of the earth and a satellite over the earth.

They say, "a picture is worth a thousand words".

Well, they got it.

My daughter's got one -- issued in 2008.  Mine issued in 2007 doesn't have it, though some from that time and before do.

She also has a Philippines passport, if there is ever any real trouble that U.S. Passport will go in the nearest trash receptacle after being burnt beyond all recognition.

Eventually, they want to tag us and track us like friggin' animals. Fu#% that.

Is the RFID Chip noticeable in those passports?

The one I saw somebody had on youtube looked like you could see a bulge on the side on the passport itself.

I don't see a bulge at all on the one somebody has.

There is a symbol embossed above the chip.  I will lokk at it again and describe it in more detail, but I have seen pictures of it published to the web.  It is quite easy to spot, and yes it does bulge -- you can feel it underneath.

Dam.  I tried to find where it was at on mine.  I never did.

When was your passport issued?  Maybe, it was before this became standard as mine was.

Last year.  It states the warnings about the chip inside.

I just simply couldn't feel it.  Since I might need it someday, not crazy enough to try to rip it up to find it.

I wouldn't bother.  There might be some ways of jamming it though without illegally damaging the chip.  I'm not sure from what distance it can really be read.  Doubt if it is really that far.  Could probably be shielded easily.  If you kept it in a metal case for instance, a Faraday cage, it would probably be effectively shielded from being read without your permission.

There are some sites on the web about this, though I'm not sure about the reliability of the information of any.

You should buy one of those passport RFID shields.

The symbol above the chip is in that company's logo, I believe!

Look at your passport booklet again.  Look carefully for that symbol, the chip should be right undeneath it.

For 20$, BTW, it's probably worth it.

Does any one know how we can de-activate the RFID chip in the passports?

I have to get a new passport. I am in a E.U. country. Not that my passport will expire - it is just too full of stamps - so I will need a new one. The E.U.-craps have not thought of issuing passports with a higher number of pages. They dont want people to travel extensively or is it that they want to make more money selling more passports.

I will declare loss or theft of my passport before I request a new one. I don't want them to have it back. Never.

So again - how can we figure the RFID chip and how can we de-activate it? I want to jam it.
I suspect the new E.U. passports will also have RFID.

Actually a microwave does work .. but you can go to jail for deliberately damaging it.

Thank you very much.

I wouldn't break the chip. It would look too obvious. No destruct. Only jam it.
I do not have a microwave but they are relatively easy to find. Everybody has them.
How do we jam the chip in the microwave without damaging the rest of the passport?
Like nothing would show?

It would also scorch the paper, leaving a telling mark.

Tire tracks, on the other hand...

the point is to cook the chip without leaving any trace of destruction on chip or paper.
let me know if you find out...

maybe we can just put ourselves in front of a Raytheon pain laser while carrying a passport, that should do the trick.

Well they say dont expose to heat... so get some similar card and try finding the maximum heat you can apply without damaging the rest. Microwave isnt good. Heard it does burn a hole in it. Boiling is no option either since water just gets to a 100°C. Maybe just putting it in the baking oven is enough. Or close to a heat lamp. But wouldnt a EMP work? Any idea how to make one? Or blasting it with some high powered signal. Anyway find a way to get it destroyed and then act stupid if it comes out that the chip is dead. I would try a hammer but make sure it doesnt leave a mark. They will probably look for stuff like that.

Place the passaport between two plates and use a hydrualic press to slowly flatten the paper checking from time to time to make sure there are no noticeable marks -- if you really want to be surreptitious.

However, when you go through Immigration (now another branch of Homeland -- das Heimat -- Security), they will try to read the document and if it is not responding, they can merely declare it invalid.

That's why I haven't experimented with my two-year-old daughter's passport, but some of the suggestions were good for a laugh.  When I decide I don't want her going back there, I can dispose of the hateful chip in any number of ways.  It hasn't gotten to that point yet, but I gotta tell you it's close.  Real close.

Yes they will declare it invalid... thats why as many people must do that to their passports or soon national ID. Because when everyones passport is invalid then noones is. They cant turn away everyone... well they can but that will have some quite interesting consequences. Well the flight crews will have a much quieter job.

They won't need chips to track us.  The way we walk, talk, and  act will help identify us.  They will use eye, face, and scar recognition software.

Don't forget your phone, your car, and any other smart device.  They will be able to predict your movements and driving patterns to work.

This is more advanced than a chip.

The chip will eventually be nanotechnology.  You won't even know your body is chipped, because it will be that small.

You have to look at the big picture.

can some type of magnet be used to destroy the chip other than microwaving it ?

also i wonder if the passport is found to have a non working chip in, could what ever authoraty then deny entrance to where ever for having a non working rfid chip in it ?

if that is the case then shielding rather than destroying is a better option.
