Author Topic: FBI admits going after historian Zinn for saying America had become Police State  (Read 746 times)

On Friday, the FBI released a 243-page file on Zinn, who died in January at age 87. The release describes the historian as "radical." The documents show the bureau taking an active interest in Zinn since the late 1940s, when he was a student at New York University. The interest continued through the 1950s, as Zinn worked on his PhD at Columbia University.

When the FBI again took an interest in Zinn in the 1960s, documents show the bureau evidently tried to have the historian fired from his job as professor at Boston University.

In a document from the Boston FBI office (see PDF file here), an FBI "source," whose name was redacted from the publicly released documents, was quoted as being outraged over Zinn's comment at a protest that the US had become a "police state" and that prosecutions of Black Panther Party members were creating "political prisoners."

The bureau's Boston office then indicated it wanted to help the source in his or her campaign to unseat Zinn. "[The] Boston [office] proposes under captioned program with Bureau permission to furnish [name redacted] with public source data regarding Zinn's numerous anti-war activities ... in an effort to back [redacted] efforts for his removal."

The bureau's response to the request does not appear to have been included in the released documents.

Salon's also picked up the story --

Surprising no one, the FBI announced today it had tracked the left-wing historian Howard Zinn for 25 years, despite having apparently no evidence that he ever committed a crime.

This shouldn't be shocking at all.

The FBI had files on John Lennon, and Martin Luther King Jr.

I wonder what kind of FBI file I have, I've been saying we live in a police state for years...even when I was a cop. Verrrrry interesting.

The two special agents who sought me out in the 70's had certainly done their homework. I was shocked what they knew about me. Had to do with looking for a nephew they considered a fugitive and they had concluded I had recently seen him (I had). I had no idea he was on the run and told them so and that he told me he was headed for Hawaii and just wanted to see family as he knew he'd be gone a while.

Never knew the whole story or worried much about it. Haven't seen him in years but other (closer) family know where he is.

No, But I do kow for a fact that in my my file with at least one agency it was documented that I was resistant to super aggressive traffic enforcement because I felt it was being missused for revenue generation, not public safety. I had apparently been quoted by a 'superior' officer who had overheard a conversation between myself and a traffic officer. We were simply debating the merits of traffic enforcement as they stood. It wasn't so much a matter that they were documenting that my traffic statistics were unsatisfactory, they were simply jotting down my position for later use against me, in case my stats dropped.  They were not aware that I had a friend in the personnel office who told me of the added documentation, becuase she was shocked that it had nothing to do with performance. If the FBI were to conduct a background check or create a file, such things, amongst others would end up in that file. Having seen a few FBI files in my time, I can vouch that they are verrrrrry extensive, and delv into areas you would not imagine a 'Law Enforcement' file could or should delv into. The main question in my mind is; given my openess about being anti government and  being a Constitutionlist, I wonder what else those would-be fascists documented against me in that agencies file.

Ironic, given that Howard has done his best to keep the real facts about 911 from being investigated. And 911 was the rationale for the loss of our liberties, the implementation of the most fascist command and control surveillance state EVER in the history of this country.

Howard Zinn: 9/11 Investigation a “Diversion”

Howard Zinn, 86-year old folk hero, activist, professor, historian, and author of one of the great books of American popular literature, A People’s History of the United States, is telling people that searching for the truth about what really happened on 9/11 “is a diversion.”
Say it ain’t so, Howard Zinn!

He used the word “diversion” several times during an interview on The Real News Network with senior editor Paul Jay.
Here are some excerpts:
“There are some issues that are interesting but are diversions from what we really have to do. This is one of them.”
“Maybe there was a conspiracy. Who knows?”
“It’ll go on and on and on and people will write books and talk about it; it’ll be an enormous waste of good energy… I just don’t think that it leads anywhere.”

In the interview, Paul Jay points out to Zinn that much of current U.S. foreign policy, such as the Afghan War, “still has its roots in 9/11.” Making it clear that no matter what we may think about conspiracies, Jay states that peculiarities about 9/11 are part of the historical record.

Yup, FBI admits going after Howard Zinn. WTF? Hopefully this wakes up some progressives.

Hey Progressives, they just let Abramoff out of jail...

The entire Iran Contra Project Phoenix team is getting back together with Stephens, Inc. already running Recon operations and sabotage cover plays.

Progressives...DON'T YOU REALIZE THAT IN 2010 OR 2012 AT THE LATEST THE ENTIRE 5,000 PAGE TYRANICAL KILL GRANDMA DEATH CARE PLAN WILL BE RUN BY PEOPLE LIKE ABRAMOFF?

How could you not see this shit a mile away? Bush used all of the Clinton powers, Obama is using all of Bush's powers. This is like Highlander and we are getting close to the quickening.

BTW, the problem with FBI files is they require people to verify crap. That leaves a human trail and makes it difficult to manufacture evidence on the fly. Also, there are too many people that Bilderberg now wants to monitor. So FBI is the past, the present is DARPA:

Quotes from the movie....

Spook: ...I know you don't smoke. I saw your DARPA file, and that's my way of telling you - you've got a DARPA file.

MG: You gonna tell me what that is?

Spook: Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Their slogan is "scientia est potentia", and I know you know latin.

DARPA's slogan is "Knowledge is POWER".

Scientia Est Potentia (Knowledge Is Power)

I'm sorry... but aren't you WORRIED yet...Huh!!! You should be:

If the Homeland Security Act is not amended before passage, here is what will happen to you:
Every purchase you make with a credit card, every magazine subscription you buy and medical prescription you fill, every Web site you visit and e-mail you send or receive, every academic grade you receive, every bank deposit you make, every trip you book and every event you attend -- all these transactions and communications will go into what the Defense Department describes as "a virtual, centralized grand database."

To this computerized dossier on your private life from commercial sources, add every piece of information that government has about you -- passport application, driver's license and bridge toll records, judicial and divorce records, complaints from nosy neighbors to the F.B.I., your lifetime paper trail plus the latest hidden camera surveillance -- and you have the supersnoop's dream: a "Total Information Awareness" about every U.S. citizen.

This is not some far-out Orwellian scenario. It is what will happen to your personal freedom in the next few weeks if John Poindexter gets the unprecedented power he seeks.

This is not fiction, and it is no longer something you can afford to disregard - the freedoms that we've cherished for so long in this country are being ripped out from under your feet.

Don't think it doesn't matter to you, that it won't affect you - because by the time it does, it will be too late to do a thing about it.

And the future (and present) is GOOGLE/FACEBOOK.

You really think there is no funding for facebook?

You think some kid in his dorm room created a program that many employees at fortune 500 companies ARE CONDITIONED TO USE?

Really? You think that? Just follow the money. To use an economic analogy of free market enterprise...

The money ain't coming from selling lemonade in the yard. It comes from the government using tax money to fund nano-gps sensors in GMO lemons which then gets transfered to your body in the CIA subsidized lemonade industry.  DRINK UP!
