Total Recall remake lined up by Kate Beckinsale's director husband
30 July 2010
, by Joanne McCabe (Metro.UK)
http://www.metro.co.uk/film/836660-total-recall-remake-lined-up-by-kate-beckinsales-director-husband

Excerpt:

A remake of 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger action classic Total Recall is being lined up by Underworld and Die Hard 4.0 director Len Wiseman, aka Mr Kate Beckinsale.

Columbia Pictures secured the rights to the sci-fi thriller last year, with Kurt Wimmer - writer of Angelina Jolie flick Salt - brought on board for the screenplay.

In the original, based on Philip K Dick's 'We Can Remember it For You Wholesale' and directed by Paul Verhoeven, Arnie famously played a man haunted by a recurring dream about travelling to Mars.

Wow...the first "remakes" I saw when I was a teen/young adult were from films BEFORE I was born. Now? They're doing remakes of movies that I've seen during my lifetime.

I got the original the other week on blu ray, i enjoyed it, was slightly disappointed to learn the three-breasted lady was indeed just wearing a synthetic costume all the same.

But the original is still great by most standards. I wonder what twists and upgrades they are going to put in it? Or will it just be another fiction-becoming-reality film to program the subconscious so we get to Mars faster...

What a waste!

There is no need to remake this film...

This original version was cool, not terrific, but good in its own ways.

Rather, why not  make a different one of Phil K Dick's stories ?
He certainly wrote many.
And the govt/ paranoia/conspiracy is reality themes are relevant.

What's next?

ekimdrachir, the Hal 5000 was a symbol for the all seeing eye, so saying that something found in this movie is a symbol for something in another movie doesn't make sense, you could say that red fan on the ceiling was a symbol for the all seeing eye itself but i myself would continue looking for something more substantive.
If anyone finds anything real, i myself will continue searching through the flick, but you folks gotta start trying,  Grin Can anyone match my Pyramid find? Anyone?
And i'd rather folks not copy others work maybe out there on the net (at least in this thread), give it a scan through yourselves, i'd advise blu-raying it, i lay the gauntlet down, find me one REAL piece of symbology here and i'll try match your find.

hmm Bodyscanners  "checkbox"  Good !
hmm Foreigners holding office "checkbox" Good!
hmm early "remakes" of films?

Hey!  Must be Arnie is going to run for President and protect us all because he is so big and fine, and most-of-all, a really great actor in neato movies!

Like egypt has pointed out, any predictive-programming found would be as valuable as any esoteric symbology found.
These are the two orders of the day, of course the body scanners in this movie are hugely important.

And Arnie was president. Maybe time will help us to make it happen that he never will be.

Sorry but I'll have to point out this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7g-KXp0JOZw

(I'm not copying, just referencing Wink )

Check out the earings Melina is wearing they look quite suspect to me.

As to the remake they might as well call it "Total Fecal" if Len Wiseman is directing it. He totally ruined the Die Hard series, if not financially than spiritually, with it's PG-13 rating, CGI and general stupidity.

Kurt Wimmer is an interesting one. I really liked 'Equilibrium' but Ultraviolet was a stinker that would of killed anyones career. I suppose he is an insider because he still gets to have his scripts filmed Salt/Law Abiding Citizen/Street Kings-these scripts all bear his hallmark unoriginality but Studio Execs still greenlight and finance them. Kinda reminds me of MCG (director of Terminator Salvation) whatever Hollywood loves these people for it sure as hell isn't their talent.

Ill be looking forward to a trailer, as well as seeing what they update in the flick. The original is still very entertaining to this day, though not as futuristic as it once seemed.

First Armed Robots on Patrol in Iraq
http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2007/08/httpwwwnational/
By Noah Shachtman Email Author August 2, 2007 |  3:56 pm |  Categories: Uncategorized

Robots have been roaming the streets of Iraq, since shortly after the war began.  Now, for the first time — the first time in any warzone — the machines are carrying guns.   After years of development, three "special weapons observation remote reconnaissance direct action system" (SWORDS) robots have deployed to Iraq, armed with M249 machine guns.  The ‘bots "haven’t fired their weapons yet," Michael Zecca, the SWORDS program manager, tells DANGER ROOM.  "But that’ll be happening soon." The SWORDS — modified versions of bomb-disposal robots used throughout Iraq — were first declared ready for duty back in 2004. But concerns about safety kept the robots from being sent over the the battlefield.  The machines had a tendency to spin out of control from time to time.  That was an annoyance during ordnance-handling missions; no one wanted to contemplate the consequences during a firefight.   So the radio-controlled robots were retooled, for greater safety.   In the past, weak signals would keep the robots from getting orders for as much as eight seconds — a significant lag during combat.  Now, the SWORDS won’t act on a command, unless it’s received right away.  A three-part arming process — with both physical and electronic safeties — is required before firing.   Most importantly, the machines now come with kill switches, in case there’s any odd behavior.  "So now we can kill the unit if it goes crazy," Zecca says. As initially reported in National Defense magazine, only three of the robots are currently in Iraq.  Zecca says he’s ready to send more, "but we don’t have the money.  It’s not a priority for the Army, yet."  He believes that’ll change, once the robots begin getting into firefights.
Screamers (1995 film based on short stor by Philip K. Dick)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screamers_(1995_film)

Screamers is set in 2078 on Sirius 6B, a once thriving commercial and mining hub planet, now reduced to a wasteland by a civil war between the Alliance, a resistance group composed of the colony's former mining and science personnel, and their employers, the New Economic Bloc. Five years later, Alliance scientists created a new weapon system called the 'Autonomous Mobile Sword', an artificially intelligent self-replicating machine. Due to the noise emitted by the machines, the Alliance nicknamed them 'Screamers'. ... screamers ... track their targets via their heartbeats...

Saw it...it was okay.  It wasn't as cleverly written as I had hoped.

Plenty of action, though, and it's pretty cool looking.  Could see some PKD influence...asian culture mixed with western.

Of interest...everyone lives in one of two places...Great Britain or Australia.

The rest of the world is a toxic death zone.  Everyone is crowded together.

Coolest part is when they go through the earth to travel between the two mega cities.

I'm sure I'll watch it again, but I thought the story was a little weak.

The chicks are awesome...Beckinsale is the ex from hell!
