The amount of energy required to penetrate the plates of a jet and bring it down is not very cost effective right now. That, and it takes forever to reload/recharge the weapon. It is basically a 1 shot, and you sit and wait an hour for it to recharge.
The video and story is just propaganda. The "weapon" is useless, unless of course a carrier group is attacked by a single, thin skinned UAV.

A lot of test vids are shot in color, black and white, thermal, and who knows what else so they can determine what exactly is being seen. For example, this video was shot at distance, howev er we cna be certai nthey have shots which were much closer, and detaield far better exactly what happened to the target. It stands to reason they would use multiple cameras, so why wouldn't they use multiple formats to best document it? Take a color picture and a black and white picture of the smae scene, there will be subtle differences noticeable in both shots. Same holds true for video. |

I'm not saying that this technology doesn't exist or that it hasn't been in existence for a long time, I just think this particular video looks fake or was made to look fake. The military usually doesn't release info about secret projects until it has been tested and used for about 10 years it seems, and they were talking about this technology in the 80's. I personally believe that they are way more advanced than they would like us to believe...

Equally they are the only propeller driven thingies that move slowly and predictably enough to be vulnerable to the violent and childish destruction produced by such wasteful and valueless squanderings of debt. Hopefully (not) this violently, misguided and bestial killing "technology" will not also be sold and otherwise proliferated to "terrorists" for profit. |

One of my early electronic surveillance instructors, (who spoke often of an underground network base he visited multiple times in Panama) always spoke of the fact, and reminded us very often, that if we see the government adveritsing or releasing information on technolofy they are using, you can automatically guess that they are 15 to 20 years ahead of that tech. So there is not a doubt in my mind that there is tech they do not speak of. But I seriously doubt that is a fake video, but what we saw is 'sanitized for our protection.' |

This will most likely replace the old CIWS weapon system, the Type_730_CIWS cannon or "Phalanx". Even the Cannon version has a hard time shooting down manuvering targets.
