Thank you for contacting me regarding S. 3480, the "Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act of 2010."  It is good to hear from you.

 

S. 3480 would establish an Office of Cyberspace Policy, responsible for developing a national strategy to increase the security and resiliency of cyberspace and to oversee, coordinate, and integrate federal policies and activities related to cyberspace security.  The President would be authorized to issue a declaration of a national cyber emergency should a threat of cyber attack be detected.  The owners and operators of the threatened infrastructure would be immediately notified and required to implement certified response methods.  On June 24, 2010, S. 3480 was referred to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs

 

Today there are increasing threats of espionage over the internet that threaten our national security.  It is important that we take appropriate measures to mitigate these threats.  I understand your concerns about the government controlling different aspects of the internet.  Should this legislation come before the full Senate, I will keep your thoughts in mind.
