President Bush Participates in Meeting on Health Care in Omaha, Nebraska Adah and Leon Millard Foundation Conference Room One World Community Health Center, Inc. Omaha, Nebraska
Video (Windows) Presidential Remarks Audio Photos Fact Sheet: Meeting the Health Care Needs of Uninsured and Underserved Americans In Focus: Health Care 10:23 A.M. CST
THE PRESIDENT: It is a joy to be here at the One World Community Health Center in Omaha. I want to thank Andrea and Dr. McVea for the tour.
I say it's a joy because the spirit here, the spirit of community, the desire to help people who are less fortunate, is prevalent. People here feel a great sense of community and accomplishment, and as well they should, because community health centers, not only here in Omaha, but around the country, provide a very vital service. I happen to think they're an integral part of a health care system because they provide care for the low-income, for the newly arrived, and they take the pressure off of our hospital emergency rooms.
And so I've come to thank the staff and the providers of compassionate health care here for their work. I remind the people of Omaha that this is a public-private partnership; the federal government is a -- and my administration strongly supports the expansion and the extension and the reach of these community health centers. But the private sector, the public needs to support these centers, as well.
We spent a little time talking about whether or not the community understands the importance of a community health center. This community does. I think there is some awareness of how important One World is, and I would hope that other citizens that aren't aware would find out the importance of a community health center.
When I -- in 2000, when I was running, I said, look, I believe these are important centers because they provide an integral service, and they take pressure off of our health care systems around the country. And so I laid out a goal of expanding the health care centers by 1,200, and we're meeting that goal. And I want to thank members of Congress from both parties for understanding the importance and the vitality of community health centers. And I look forward to working with Congress to continue to expand the reach of these important facilities.
And so, again, I want to thank you all for your hospitality. I really appreciate you giving me a chance to come to -- part of our national strategy is to make sure the uninsured can find good-quality primary care. This center serves -- 85 percent of its people don't speak English as a first language. By far, the vast majority are low-income. And yet they're receiving first-class quality care. So I thank the docs and the nurses and the social workers, and all the people who are making this facility such a good one.
Thanks for having me.
Q Iran’s President said the NIE is a victory for Iran. They want an apology from the United States, and compensation, sir. Will you do that? Is the NIE a victory for Iran?
THE PRESIDENT: (Laughter.) You can mark down I chuckled.

1. Shooter was a drifter type whose las tknown place of employment was a McDonald's, yet he's driving around in a late model Jeep...
2. Early reports of a second suspect in custody who then goes down the memory hole...
3. Prozac prodigy...
4. Reports indicate burst and full-auto fire, yet he was using an SKS...
5. How the hell did he get inside a mall dressed in combat gear with a rifle and make it to the 3rd floor without any witnesses...?
6. Supposedly homeless but his mother (not his landlady) found his 'suicide note'...
7. Supposedly upset about being fired but left suicide note where Mom could find it BEFORE being fired...
8. 'Wires sticking out' of a bag in his Jeep...
9. Previous reports of Al-CIAda plans to 'attack shopping malls'...
10. On the heels of the NIE report which is damaging to the credibility of the current administration's plans for war on Iran...
11. Kid's name is identical to name of TV show character who play's a CIA agent specialising in 'marksmanship'...
12. Supreme Court about to decide on Second Amendment...
I mean come on, this is so obvious!

The thug is always armed http://www.currentargus.com/ci_7584649 The Current-Argus Article Launched: 11/28/2007 08:56:15 PM MSTThe U.S. Supreme Court has been given an opportunity to decide whether the words of the Constitution mean what they say. ... The current court is more inclined than any in recent history to think it matters what the founders meant in penning the words of the document that forms the foundation of our law, and uphold the plain meaning of the text. That is why we expect the court to uphold a federal appeals court ruling that the handgun ban in the nation's capital is unconstitutional. The court has agreed to hear the case in 2008. ... Gun control advocates ignore the evidence, holding doggedly to their belief that the mere presence of guns increases the likelihood of crime. The result of the D.C. law is to turn law-abiding citizens into sitting ducks for criminals to whom the ban means nothing. The founders understood this. That's why the right to bear arms is second in the Bill of Rights, behind only the First Amendment with its free speech guarantees. ... Ask a simple question: If an armed thug has a choice between breaking into a house where the homeowner is known to possess weapons or one where the homeowner is known to be unarmed, which will he choose? The answer is too easy. But note, one part of the scenario above doesn't change: Regardless of the law, the thug is always armed.

Bush 'saddened' by Nebraska massacre as gun law debate continues http://en.rian.ru/world/20071206/91115870.html 09:49 | 06/ 12/ 2007WASHINGTON, December 6 (RIA Novosti) - U.S. President George Bush has said he was 'deeply saddened' by a shooting rampage that claimed the lives of at least eight people and wounded five in Omaha, in the state of Nebraska. Robert Hawkins, 19, opened fire on Christmas shoppers in a local shopping mall on Wednesday at around 2:00 p.m. local time (8: 00 p.m. GMT). He then turned his weapon on himself. A suicide note was later found. "Now I will be famous," the suicide note read, his landlady told CNN. Hawkins had suffered from depression and had recently been fired from a McDonald's fast-food restaurant, KETV reported. The suicide note was also reported to include a remark by Hawkin's that he wished "to go out in style". Bush had been in Omaha earlier in the day for a fund raising event, and a White House statement said that, "The president is deeply saddened by the shootings in Omaha, Neb., earlier today. His thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families this evening." The U.S. has a long history of gun rampages. The Omaha massacre comes some seven months after a high-profile shooting at Virginia Tech, when Seung-Hui Cho, a Korean-American, killed 32 people before killing himself. In April 1999, two students at a Columbine high school opened fire on classmates, killing 12 teenagers and a teacher. The boys also then killed themselves. Gun control is a controversial issue in the U.S., where the "right to bear arms" is enshrined in the Constitution. However, next spring, the country's Supreme Court is set to consider the law for the first time in nearly 70 years. Handguns are currently banned in Washington, DC, and the court is to rule on whether or not the ban complies with the Second Amendment. The final ruling is due in the summer of 2008, and could lead to the issue becoming a factor in the November presidential election. Despite the ban on handguns, the U.S. capital remains one of the country's worst for murder rates, with 169 cases in 2006. An estimated 60 million people own a combined arsenal of over 200 million firearms in the U.S.

Interesting. Must have been shooting at The Teddy Bear Connection on Level 1 (which would be 2nd floor) which is next to Von Maur. http://teddybearconnection.com/aboutus.htmlIf this "kid" wanted to go out in style, he could have easily shot up that store and not just a teddy bear. These build a bear type places are always filled with children. Where any children killed or just elderly people?

http://www.kmtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=7453955President Bush Leaves Omaha Omaha, NE - President Bush left Omaha on board Air Force One at one o'clock this afternoon. He arrived in the metro mid-morning at the One World Health Center where he participated in a discussion about health care. The center provides medical and dental care for low-income families, many are uninsured or under-insured. The President's motorcade passed a group of protestors, organized by the UNO Democrats. The students are demonstrating against the President's health care policies. As he arrived this morning, the President called on the Iranian government to be honest about it's nuclear program, "Iran can come clean with the international community about the scope of the nuclear activities and fully accept the long standing offer and come to the table and negotiate. Or they can continue on the path of isolation. The choice is up to the Iranian regime." On the Senate race, the President praised Johanns for his work as Agriculture Secretary. Johanns resigned from the President's cabinet to run for the seat now help by Senator Chuck Hagel. Following Johanns decision to run, former Mayor Hal Daub and Attorney General Jon Bruning, both ended their own Senate campaigns. So far, Johanns does not have a democratic challenger. His only Republican challenger is Pat Flynn, from Schuyler. http://www.ketv.com/politics/14778282/detail.htmlOMAHA, Neb. -- The president touched down at Omaha's Eppley Airfield just before 9 a.m. Wednesday and at 10:45 a.m. was on his way to a fundraiser. By 12:50 p.m., he was back on Air Force One and ready to leave. Before turning to the purpose for his trip, President George W. Bush talked about Iran. He said he and his staff have talked to international partners about the fact that Iran is still a threat, despite an intelligence report released on Tuesday. Iran has more to explain about his nuclear program and past actions, Bush said at Eppley Airfield.
I find this interesting: http://www.ketv.com/family/14774194/detail.html?rss=oma&psp=newsBush To Honor Colombia Native For Volunteerism Red Cross Volunteer To Be RecognizedOMAHA, Neb. -- A Columbia native will be honored when President George W. Bush visits Omaha on Wednesday.Martha Connot helps out at the American Red Cross Heartland Chapter. On Saturday night, she got a call from the White House. The caller said Bush planned to present her with the President's Volunteer Service Award. "The most beautiful gift I have ever got in my lifetime," Connot said. "I never thought I would get that far in life." Connot may be surprised, but people who know her said its no surprise she's being recognized. She volunteers a lot of her time to many organizations. "I want to be a Red Cross volunteer for life," she said. In 2005, she responded to Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi for seven weeks, volunteering 12 to 14 hours a day. "It was very devastating for me, but that gives me more power to give what I can," Connot said. Before Bush recognized her heart, Connot was the first Latin American native to be named a Red Cross Hero in the Heartland. She received the award after an apartment fire at the Colonial Park Apartments in August 2006. There were 103 Spanish-speaking residents who needed to communicate with the fire department and the Red Cross, and Connot was the only interpreter. "It's a lot of work. You go to bed in the night and you're just extremely tired. But it's the most beautiful thing you can make in life time," Connot said. "You never do things expecting anything back, but because of this, just makes me give more." Bush will personally present her with the award. Watch more complete coverage of the president's visit to Omaha on KETV NewsWatch 7 and KETV.com. First News will have live reports from Eppley Airfield. KETV and KETV.com will carry the president's arrival live. Expect live updates throughout the day until the president leaves Omaha just before 1 p.m.

Just thought of this... suppose you have a CHL, and you're at the mall, and Prozac Prodigy goes nuts and starts shooting people. So you hunker down behind cover, and engage the shooter.
Meanwhile, the place gets locked down, the Storm Troopers show up and gun BOTH of you down. You become an 'oops'...

well if the firefight is still going on, you will most likely get sprayed, but if you hit your mark, there should be plenty of witnesses to back you up and there should be some evidence pointing to the instigator. also you would probably not be holding your gun in your hand at that point.

http://www.ketv.com/family/14774194/detail.html?rss=oma&psp=newsAll of the other news sites refer to a Omaha woman being honored. Only one calls here a Columbia woman. I cannot find a Columbia Nebraska. Would this be a forshadowing of a sacrifice? This is not the only time a Columbia woman being honored by Bush. http://www.goodnewsblog.com/2005/08/01/columbia-woman-honored-for-volunteer-serviceColumbia woman honored for volunteer service Published: August 1, 2005 A Columbia woman was among a group of medical volunteers honored by the White House for their service after an earthquake in Indonesia. Carol Rogers, 50, an emergency room nurse at University Hospital, was among 40 volunteers who went to Indonesia after a major earthquake hit the region, which was already suffering from the effects of a tsunami in December. After the tsunami, Rogers had volunteered for service with Project Hope, a not-for-profit organization. She wasn’t selected, but she received a call from the organization in April, following the earthquake. More than 4,000 people volunteered for 210 positions after the tsunami, said John Howe, a doctor and chief executive officer of Project Hope. “It was a truly remarkable example of volunteerism at its best,” Howe said. “The volunteer physicians and nurses put a face on America’s humanity.” Co-workers agreed to pick up Rogers’ shifts at the hospital, and she flew to Asia to join USNS Mercy, a 1,000-bed medical ship. Rogers doesn’t know how many patients she treated but recalled one man who was carried 10 miles for treatment after a tree fell on him. She is proud of her service. “I just vehemently feel that Americans are wonderful people,” she said. “We have to show the world the goodness of the American people.” Her husband, Gordon Rogers - also a nurse - received the initial phone call and encouraged her to take part. The medical ship is usually staffed by the Navy, but those personnel were working in the Middle East. Rogers said there was no time off aboard ship. “I’ve never worked 16 days in a row before.” Since returning from Indonesia, Rogers is considering further volunteer work overseas.

I understand the emphasis on depression drugs, prozac, whatever. I understand that suicide rates go up when on these drugs and other violent behaviors.
However, if this was the cause of the shooting yesterday why aren't there shooting sprees every other day?
I wouldn't just focus on drugs.

I wouldn't just focus on drugs.
it makes no sense, these things are like precision military operations

Hardly.
so the safest, fastest way to resolve the situation is to wait for the shooter to finish shooting people, then kill himself. Hardly.

ok, back to the topic: 4 years in state custody!!!!!!!!!!http://www.kansascity.com/116/story/392166.htmlAuthorities said Hawkins was declared a ward of the state in 2002. That ended on Aug., 24, 2006. More details were expected to be released this afternoon at a news conference conducted by Nebraska’s department of health and human services. Also CNN reports he tried to enlist in the army twice, but was denied.

I have no idea what you are talking about. So anyway... Authorities said Hawkins was declared a ward of the state in 2002. That ended on Aug., 24, 2006. More details were expected to be released this afternoon at a news conference conducted by Nebraska’s department of health and human services. I don't suppose he was ever at Boys Town, was he?

Back to the raw data... Identities released in Omaha mall massacre http://www.kansascity.com/116/story/392166.html By LAURA BAUER and KEVIN MURPHY The Kansas City StarOMAHA | Robert Hawkins took the elevator to the third floor of the Von Maur store at Westroads Mall on Wednesday afternoon and just started “firing shots,” Omaha Police Chief Thomas Warren said at a news conference this morning. Within minutes eight people were fatally shot, their ages between 24 and 66, Warren said. Most of the shooting took place on the third floor, with only one deceased person found on the second floor. All victims, two of them shoppers and six employees, have been identified. Those killed were identified as Beverly Flynn, 47, of Omaha; Janet Jorgensen, 66, of Omaha; Gary Joy, 56, of Omaha; Angie Schuster, 36, of Omaha; Diane Trent, 53, of Omaha; and Maggie Webb, 24, of Omaha. They were all employees. Customers John McDonald, 65, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Gary Scharf, 48, of Lincoln, Neb., also were killed. Four people also were injured. They were identified as Fred Wilson, 61, Michelle Oldham, 65, Jeff Schaffart, 34, and Brad Stafford, 55, all of Omaha. Wilson, who had been listed in critical condition, improved to serious condition this morning, authorities said. The victims’ identities and more information about Hawkins, 19, of Bellevue, Neb., were released at a news conference conducted by Warren, Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman and Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey. “Today, we are still reeling from events few of us could have imagined ever taking place here in Omaha,” Fahey said. “These were people going about their daily lives shopping for the holidays. They are men and women who did not deserve the fate that they were given.” Surveillance video showed that Hawkins entered Von Maur on Wednesday afternoon and then left shortly afterward. Six minutes later, he re-entered the store, got on the elevator and took it to the third floor. Police said he apparently had concealed a rifle in a hooded sweatshirt he carried. Authorities said Hawkins was declared a ward of the state in 2002. That ended on Aug., 24, 2006. More details were expected to be released this afternoon at a news conference conducted by Nebraska’s department of health and human services. Jan Hopkins was wrapping gifts in the customer service area of Von Maur when she and some co-workers heard the shots. They hid in a stock room as shots continued. “We could hear him, he kept walking back to the customer service area and kept shooting,” Hopkins told The Kansas City Star this morning. When she left the store, authorities told her and the others to keep their eyes straight ahead and not look at what was around them. Hopkins said she saw several bodies on the ground, including the shooter. Police kept the Von Maur store blocked off early this morning and the mall was expected to be closed all day, at the height of the holiday shopping season. Some people who were at Von Maur on Wednesday returned to the mall area early today. One woman, Jennifer Kramer, said she was at Von Maur with her mother to buy a coat for Kramer’s 35th birthday. “I think I hear gunshots,” Kramer recalled telling her mother, who disagreed. “Those are not gunshots,” her mother insisted. When they were escorted by police out of the store, they saw a male victim lying at the bottom of an escalator. Kramer told her story matter-of-factly this morning but then couldn’t control her emotions. “I’m torn. I walked out of there alive and nine people didn’t,” Kramer said, tears brimming in her eyes. “I told my friend I made it to 35 by a wish and a prayer, I guess literally.” Hawkins left a suicide note that said, “Now I’ll be famous,” said Debora Maruca-Kovac, who owned the house where he lived. One witness said she was on the second floor near the escalator and looked up toward the commotion. She saw a man with a gun lean over a rail from the third floor, and a man standing right next to her was shot in the head. Police received a 911 call from someone inside the mall at 1:42 p.m., and shots could be heard in the background, said Sgt. Teresa Negron, a police spokeswoman. By the time officers arrived six minutes later, the shooting was over, she said. Dozens of Omaha police, county sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents sealed off and closed the mall, which is in a prosperous neighborhood on the city’s west side. At 2:12 p.m., officers located the apparent shooter in the customer service area, dead of a gunshot wound. Hawkins was a student at Papillion-La Vista High School but withdrew in March 2006, a district spokeswoman said. After his family kicked him out of their home, Hawkins lived for a little more than a year with a friend’s family in a house in a middle-class Bellevue neighborhood, said Debora Maruca-Kovac, who owns the home. “When he first came in the house, he was introverted, a troubled young man who was like lost pound puppy that nobody wanted,” she said. Hawkins was fired from his job at a nearby McDonald’s this week and had recently broken up with a girlfriend, Maruca-Kovac said. She said he phoned her about 1 p.m. Wednesday, telling her that he had left a note for her in his bedroom, and she tried to get him to explain. Maruca-Kovac said she found the suicide note and called Hawkins’ mother, who went to the Maruca-Kovac house. In the note, Hawkins said he would not be a burden anymore and that he was “sorry for everything.” Maruca-Kovac said she took the note to authorities and went to her job as a nurse at the Nebraska Medical Center, where, hours later, she saw victims being brought in.

an SKS is 40 inches long. Ain't not way you can conceal it in a sweatshirt. Not even if you change the stock and cut off part of the barrel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sks
