Another Arthur C. Clarke prophecy has come to pass. Sir Arthur has EXACTLY outlined the Obama post-space shuttle program: NASA is going to outsource ISS missions by buying seats for their astronauts on Russian Soyuz spacecraft.
Go, Barry! JFK would be soooo proud; NOT!

Hi TRY, i still dunno much about this one yet, i guess the only way to look at it is after having a good handle on 2001, which personally i've still to achieve, but don't get me wrong i believe it's all there in the 2001 thread, it's just there are so many things to re-consider now being more "awake" to it all.
Anyways being written, 2010, by Arthur C Clarke also i'd say it must be a continuation of the first movie.
Here's some trivia on it :

2010    The Facts
In order to make the American spacesuits as authentic as possible, costume designer Patricia Norris used a Teflon fabric that cost $175 a yard.

The set for Heywood Floyd's house (with dolphin pool) was constructed atop the MGM studio "saucer tank" in Culver City, California. The dolphins, named Captain Crunch and Lelani, were provided by a local aquarium.

One of the characters is Tanya Kirbuck, which is an anagram of "Kubrick". Stanley Kubrick directed 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).

Kubrick had all models and sets from 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) destroyed to prevent their reuse, thus the model of the spaceship Discovery had to be constructed from pictures.

The blue spacesuit, a holdover from 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), is missing its helmet, apparently because the producers thought that Dave used that helmet while trying to disable HAL in the original film. But Dave actually used a green helmet - part of a green spacesuit which was stowed in the emergency airlock.

The blue spacesuit on the Discovery (the only one that was never used, in either 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) or 2010 was later used in the "Babylon 5" episodes "Babylon Squared" and "War Without End."

A promotional short for 2010 shows moviegoers how some of the film's visual effects were created. This includes makeup for Keir Dullea's character, how the astronauts float in space, and the construction of the spaceship in which the astronauts carry out their mission. The vehicle is so large, the two largest sound stages on the MGM lot were used to construct it.

Arthur C Clarke is seen sitting on a park bench in front of the White House, feeding the pigeons.

Arthur C Clarke is seen on the cover of Time Magazine, as the American President.

Stanley Kubrick is seen on the cover of Time Magazine, as the Soviet premier.

Excellent start viper*

Many people don't realize that 2001: A Space Odyssey goes well beyond the 1968 movie, and its 1984 sequel (2010: The Year We Make Contact).  In fact, the literary legacy of 2001 began a full 50 years ago, and has continued nearly to the present day!

Click on the images if you'd like to order any of these books!

In 1950 Arthur C. Clarke wrote a short story called "The Sentinel," in which astronauts find an alien artifact buried on the Moon.  Over 15 years later, this would become the inspiration of Clarke and director Stanley Kubrick in creating "the proverbial good science fiction movie."
Written at the same time the 2001 screenplay was being created, Clarke's novelization differs in some regards from the film version.  Most notably, the Discovery crew uses Jupiter as a slingshot to speed them on their way to Saturn, where the mysterious Monolith awaits.  Kubrick shortened their journey in the movie to streamline the production (making Jupiter the Discovery's final destination), but the special effects for the Saturn sequence were used a few years later in the movie Silent Running.
Sir Arthur ignored the discrepancies presented in the 2001 novelization when he wrote 2010: Odyssey Two.  2010 is actually a sequel to the movie version, and Clarke used then-current knowledge of the solar system (along with some very savvy predictions) to tell the tale of a joint Soviet/American expedition to solve the mystery of the Discovery disaster.  They race back to Jupiter to salvage the Discovery before it falls from an unstable orbit.  The Peter Hyams movie greatly streamlines the book (completely removing the role Chinese astronauts play, and putting much greater emphasis on the Cold War tensions).  The Monolith plays an important role again, changing our solar system forever to foster the development of life discovered on the frozen Jovian moon of Europa.  Easily the strongest volume of the entire series.
Halley's Comet swings back our way in 2061, and Sir Arthur uses the event as an excuse to take an aged Dr. Heywood Floyd on a romp through the solar system, visiting the comet before crash-landing on Europa, where he discovers the fates of Dave Bowman, HAL 9000, and the Europan lifeforms which have been protected by the Monoliths.
Astronaut Frank Poole was killed by the delusional HAL 9000 in the year 2001 during the original Discovery mission.  Dave Bowman was forced to leave Frank's body adrift in order to save his own life.  A thousand years later, as humanity has populated nearly every corner of the solar system, Frank's body is discovered, frozen in the cold vacuum of space - but he is revived using the advanced technology of the third millennium.  Ultimately Frank travels back to Jupiter, where he encounters the "spirit" of Dave Bowman, who warns him that the Monolith is about to act again - this time against mankind's best interests.  This final volume is thin (both in page-count and from a plot standpoint), but one can forgive senior citizen Clarke for continuing to indulge his intellect and imagination at an age when most folks can't remember their own names!  Critics have long complained at Clarke's shallow character development, but his strength has always been as an "ideas man."  He throws together all sorts of wild speculations about what the world will be like a thousand years from now.  Overall, a reasonably entertaining book.

2010: The Year We Make Contact - The Jupiter Odyssey! (UPDATED)

"Someday, the children of the new Sun will meet the children of the old. I think they will be our friends." - Heywood Floyd, 2010: The Year We Make Contact

In 2010: The Year We Make Contact, the belated sequel to Stanley Kubrick's 1968 classic film 2001: A Space Odyssey, a joint American-Soviet crew sets off on a mission to unravel and resolve the mystery surrounding the Discovery mission, the orbiting monolith and the disappearance of astronaut David Bowman. Adapted from Arthur C. Clarke's novel 2010: Odyssey Two, director Peter Hyams takes us on a intriguing journey through space, ultimately propelling us and the scientific crew towards the planet Jupiter, and the monumental discoveries there.

On Jupiter, the abandoned Discovery craft is found undamaged in a decaying orbit around the moon Io. Upon reactivation by the joint spacecrew, a rendezvous is made with the monolith, discovered in the Lagrange point between Jupiter and Io. Through a sequence of demystifying scenes revolving around the transformed energy-based life-form of Bowman, contact is made with extraterrestrials, controllers of the monolith. Water is also found beneath the icy surface of the moon Europa. Aquatic life forms are discovered in these regions, as well as avian life under Jupiter's clouds.

With the recent Indian discovery of water on the moon, NASA's revelation of frozen water below the surface of Mars, NASA's LCROSS mission to bomb the moon for water and former astronaut Buzz Aldrin's declaration of a monolith on Mars' moon Phobos; I am really beginning to wonder where does the fictitiously imaginative narrative end and the reality begins. Especially given a new collaborative research from the University of Arizona and the American Astronomical Society's Division for Planetary Sciences that suggests that there is enough oxygen present in the surface of Jupiter's moon Europa to contain life. The research further states that if a 100 kilometer-deep ocean existed below the Europan ice shell, it would be at least 10 times deeper than any ocean on Earth and would contain twice as much water as Earth's oceans and rivers combined.
New research suggests that there is plenty of oxygen available in the subsurface ocean of Europa to support oxygen-based metabolic processes for life similar to that on Earth. In fact, there may be enough oxygen to support complex, animal-like organisms with greater oxygen demands than microorganisms. The global ocean on Jupiter’s moon Europa contains about twice the liquid water of all the Earth’s oceans combined. New research suggests that there may be plenty of oxygen available in that ocean to support life, a hundred times more oxygen than previously estimated. The chances for life there have been uncertain, because Europa’s ocean lies beneath several miles of ice, which separates it from the production of oxygen at the surface by energetic charged particles (similar to cosmic rays). Without oxygen, life could conceivably exist at hot springs in the ocean floor using exotic metabolic chemistries, based on sulfur or the production of methane. However, it is not certain whether the ocean floor actually would provide the conditions for such life.

Therefore a key question has been whether enough oxygen reaches the ocean to support the oxygen-based metabolic process that is most familiar to us. An answer comes from considering the young age of Europa’s surface. Its geology and the paucity of impact craters suggests that the top of the ice is continually reformed such that the current surface is only about 50 million years old, roughly 1% of the age of the solar system. Richard Greenberg of the University of Arizona has considered three generic resurfacing processes: gradually laying fresh material on the surface; opening cracks which fill with fresh ice from below; and disrupting patches of surface in place and replacing them with fresh material. Using estimates for the production of oxidizers at the surface, he finds that the delivery rate into the ocean is so fast that the oxygen concentration could exceed that of the Earth’s oceans in only a few million years. Greenberg presented his findings at the 41st meeting of the American Astronomical Society’s Division for Planetary Sciences now under way in Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

Greenberg says that the concentrations of oxygen would be great enough to support not only microorganisms, but also “macrofauna”, that is, more complex animal-like organisms which have greater oxygen demands. The continual supply of oxygen could support roughly 3 billion kilograms of macrofauna, assuming similar oxygen demands to terrestrial fish. The good news for the question of the origin of life is that there would be a delay of a couple of billion years before the first surface oxygen reached the ocean. Without that delay, the first pre-biotic chemistry and the first primitive organic structures would be disrupted by oxidation. Oxidation is a hazard unless organisms have evolved protection from its damaging effects. A similar delay in the production of oxygen on Earth was probably essential for allowing life to get started here. - PHYSORG.
Does Clarke's novel and the subsequent movies serves as a subtextual narrative for our present and future reality? Yes! Clearly. Science fiction narratives operates on many levels providing fundamental elements in creating and building allegorical insight into our existence and evolution. This narrative is not only pointing us toward the future discoveries of water on Europa or contact with extraterrestrials, but the mutation and symbiotic evolution of the human species. Symbolized by the future evolution to the Star Child, as set forth in Nietzsche’s Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

Our real evolutionary leap forward will not be realized by our embrace of machines, robotics and artificial intelligence or through the exploration and conquest of space or through the disclosure of the extraterrestrial presence; but by our movement beyond the infinite superstitious beliefs designed to trap us in a matrix around a singular narrative strand.

So be careful of what is revealed to you in the upcoming weeks and months. Discernment will be required.

NOTES
Serge Monast - Project Bluebeam:
The infamous NASA Blue Beam Project has four different steps in order to implement the new age religion with the Antichrist at its head... The first step concerns the breakdown [re-evaluation] of all archaeological [and scientific] knowledge... It deals with the set-up, with artificially created earthquakes at certain precise locations on the planet, of supposedly new discoveries which will finally explain to all people the "error" of all fundamental religious doctrines... The second step involves a gigantic 'space show' with three-dimensional optical holograms and sounds, laser projection of multiple holographic images to different parts of the world, each receiving a different image according to predominating regional national religious faith... third step is to feed artificial thought into the multigenic field via satellite, the mind control of the entire planet.

The fourth step concerns the universal supernatural manifestation with electronic means. It contains three different orientations - one is to make mankind believe that an alien (off-world) invasion is about to occur at every major city on earth in order to provoke each major nation to use its nuclear weapons in order to strike back. This way, the United Nations Court will require that all those nations which launched nuclear weapons to disarm when the invasion is shown to have been false. And how will the United Nations know that the invasion was false? They will have staged it, of course... the second is to make the Christians believe that the Rapture is going to occur with the supposed divine intervention of an alien (off-world) civilization coming to rescue earthlings from a savage and merciless demon. Its goal will be to dispose of all significant opposition to the implementation of the New World Order in one major stroke, actually within hours of the beginning of the sky show! The third orientation in the fourth step is a mixture of electronic and supernatural forces. The waves used at that time will allow "supernatural forces" to travel through optical fibers, coaxial cables (TV) electrical and phone lines in order to penetrate to everyone at once through major appliances. Embedded chips will already be in place. The goal of this deals with global Satanic ghosts projected all around the world in order to push all populations to the edge of hysteria and madness, to drown them into a wave of suicide, murder and permanent psychological disorders. After the Night of the Thousand Stars, worldwide populations will be ready for the new messiah to re-establish order and peace at any cost, even at the cost of abdication of freedom.

UPDATE: Astronomers: 32 Extrasolar Planets Discovered Outside Solar System
SPACE.com is reporting that there has been major discovery of 32 extrasolar planets just outside of own solar system:
Astronomers announced today the discovery of 32 extrasolar planets, some just five times the mass of Earth and others five times heftier than giant Jupiter. The findings significantly boost the number of planets closer to Earth in size and help astronomers better understand what types of stars birth what kinds of planets. The new alien planets, which bring the known count beyond 400, were found with the HARPS spectrograph on the European Southern Observatory's 3.6-m telescope in La Silla, Chile. The HARPS (High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher) program surveyed about 2,000 stars over five years, with the particular aim of looking at solar-type stars for low-mass planets.

Most of the known exoplanets found previously are very large — typically many times the size of Jupiter — so the newfound smaller planets bolster the known population of lower mass planets by 30 percent, said study team member Xavier Bonfils of LAOG in Grenoble, France. It is not known if any of them are Earth-like, however, given the technology used to find them. The researchers look for dips in starlight to tell them that a planet has passed in front of the star. But they cannot see the planet's surface or detect any potential atmosphere, important considerations in determining whether or not a planet might be habitable. - SPACE.com.
