Good evening
I just got mine, it’s the travel burkey and it seems to take absolutely forever to filter-hours! So just wondering how long it takes for yours to filter.
Also even though I primed the fluoride filters the filtered water has a white murky residue which seems to be coming from the fluoride filters so would be interested to know if you’ve had the same

Hi Ruthy, I have a Berkey Light with the fluoride/arsenic filter too. At first it take a while for it to filter through--as time goes on it gets faster. As far as the white murkiness, I have never had that problem. Did you rinse before using?

Morning Donnay
Thank you for the reply. Yep, I did rinse it out, but there’s still white stuff coming out. I was wondering how much time did your burkey take to filter at first and how long does it take now?
You have a good day today

Thank you, Ruthy! When I first got the Berkey, cleaned and set it up, it took a couple of hours for filtered water through. Now it takes about 30 minutes for it to go through. Are you on municipal tap water? Let me say, we are filtering well water, maybe that is the difference as far as the Fluoride/Arsenic filters are concerned--I have never had any white milky liquid in my filtered water. By the way, welcome to the Prison Planet Forum!!

Hello Decemberfellow, I bought my Berkey through Alex Jones' store. I have the Berkey Light. I am on well water, but had it tested and it tested high for naturally occurring Fluoride. So I bought the arsenic/fluoride removal filters from Berkey. What else did you want to know?

Berkey lights made before 06 have leeching plastic, pretty cool huh? You can check the date of manufacture on the bottom of the lower barrel.

I had no idea? Bisphenol-A? I bought my in 2008, it's full right now, so I cannot check the dates.

It`s been awhile but I think I drained the first 4 or 5 gallons before I was satisfied with the clearness of the filtered water.

Yes, bpa the info is on the net somewheres, i got mine around the same time and it's made in 06. All you gotta do is when it's time to re-fill you gotta empty out the residue water. The people from berkey themselves admitted it, i suspect many many were made in 06, i'd get a british berkefield if i get another one, i believe they were around before berkey.

Okay, I will check. Will they exchange it if you have one in '06?

I've setup two Berkey Lights with the PF-2 filters... one at home (for about a year now) and one at work (for 3 months). Both, despite following the directions exactly, had residue from the PF-2 filters for the initial 3-5 gallons. After that, no problems whatsoever. Everyone at work using the water from the Berkey can't say enough about how great the water tastes... err, doesn't! I will add that the one at work filters somewhat faster than the one at home. Not an issue for me as far as volume is concerned, though. The aminals and I use between 2 and 3 gallons per day. We drain the one at work into a 5 gallon cooler bottle for use in the water cooler. For those who overlooked the instructions, don't forget to wipe down / clean the black Berkey filters every once in a while to maintain optimal filtering. I do mine every 3 months just to be sure they're working properly.
