Just wondering why that is? Do I need a certain amount of posts or is it just broken?

As I understand it, it doesn't work for anybody. It's not just you.
You can Google, or use another search engine to find thread/posts.

I'm not a fan of using industrial databases as backends to forums.
In fact I'd go as far to say that it is an almighty design error common to every forum I've ever seen.
When a forum uses a database suitable for a small airline, it tends to require the odd resource.

I think the local search function was deliberately disabled to increase forum speeds.
