Firefox Keeps Crashing!

Maybe you all can help me with this.

I am running on Windows XP SP3 and I had Firefox 3.5.7 installed and everything worked great.

I am experiencing multiple crashes since I have uploaded the latest version of Firefox. I wonder why that is. Are any of you having the same problem? Does it come from the software itself that is not stable and may have some form of 'bug' in it?

It seems that every upgrade and new version seems to be worse than the preceeding one and more unstable.

What do you think?

This is way too many crashes. It is very bothersome. I send them crash reports and restore the windows but the crashes are happening way too many times. I am not sure what can be done to correct this. Any ideas or comments on your own Firefox crashing experiences and advice most welcome. Thank you very much in advance.

How can I go back to an older version? Can I re-write the older version by just uploading it on my computer? Will it be taken into consideration and erase FF 3.6 version?

This constant unexpected crash business has to stop. It gets on my nerves, really.

I use Firefox 3.6 or whatever the new version number had minor problem. Go to my computer, click programs, documents and settings, then click administrator then click Mozilla file, then click firefox, then profiles, open ufcn1vcs and look for session store. JS if there delete.

This did not crash computer because I disabled session store.js made read only file and changed file to open in word (right click properties on session store. js) so it could not open. then added to my anti virus program. Rebooted with no problems

From your description, it seems to me that the new version of Firefox for Windows is quite buggy - which is not an uncommon thing to happen whenever a new version of a program is released[1] - so, while they don't fix the bugs, perhaps it's a good idea to go back to an older version. (Maybe not too old, since the older ones should not be supported[2] in terms of security.)

Searching the web, I can find several sites from where you can download old versions of Firefox, including an ftp server of Mozilla, which should be the most secure option: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/

And, since they say in Firefox 3.6's release notes[3] that the bookmarks and such are not removed when you uninstall Firefox, you can then uninstall it, install again an older version of it, and try upgrading again when they release a new 3.6.x version.

You might also want try other browsers such as "Opera" or "Google Chrome" and see if you like them better than Firefox.

P.S. - When asking for help in computers be VERY CAREFUL with the kind of advice you take, and don't delete stuff or execute commands you don't understand if you don't know what you're doing...

I "downgraded' to 3.5.9 I will see if the situation improves.
Also I took off a great most of my add ons/extensions.
Maybe it will help.

One problem is that web sites apparently in need of revenue are overloading their pages with Flash ads and bad scripts.  In earlier days web masters might have looked out for such things but it seems the pages are on auto pilot and they just link to the advertisers stuff.  This can make Firefox hang or even crash.  I think some of these ad creators believe everyone is using IE but even then when I actually run Windows and check a web site that isn't performing right on Firefox IE will complain too.

Could you tell me more about flash ads and scripts?
What are they about? Can they be harmful?
Should we have a script block and flash block?

I hardly ever use IE. I use FF all the time.

In addition to Firefox recently releasing an update, Flash also has a new update. I think the two of them together are causing problems for a lot of people.

Flash.. yeah. I installed Windows 7 recently and it took 6 or 7 tries until the new flash player would install. My gf had the same problem on her fresh 7 install too. Weird.

I suspect many of these companies are spending less budget on development so we'll get buggier releases.  No way that Microsoft can match the number of programmer eyes on Linux.  They are fighting a losing battle.  They'll try to make "open source" illegal and have been trying to shut down Linux through patent lawsuits.  Because the dumb public is hooked on Windows and Steve Jobs too arrogant to allow third party machines to run the Apple OS then the inferior OS Windows dominates.   I have enough problems with Ubuntu given that they want to be "perfectly legal" and their lawyers seem to drag down updates often to Mozilla's chagrin.  Ubuntu is WAY BEHIND the current version of Firefox.  Then this morning on the Yahoo news page I found my Firefox locked up.  In this case probably some dumb webbie allowed some incompatible object on the page obviously without TESTING IT ON MULTIPLE PLATFORMS AND BROWSERS!  This happens way too often these days again with budget cuts and outsource bargain basement engineers.

I have a good idea for those using Firefox on Ubuntu. Add the Ubuntuzilla repository to your apt sources, sudo apt-get update, then sudo apt-get install firefox-mozilla-build.
