I just got in the mail today the U.S. Census papers. Although on the outside of the return envelope it says " YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUIRED BY LAW" when I looked through all of the invasive forms, I did not see anything pertaining to WHAT law says that I MUST do this. In fact there is no explanation of any law whatsoever! I am pissed about this knowing what I know. I remember there being a thread on this forum about this. I do not want to respond. What are my rights in this matter?

I got one today. It was a non-invasive one. How many live there and what is you race? I was hoping for one of those 150 question ones so I could just answer one question and send it back (how many people live there?).

FYI, the Census form doesn't have to be signed. I filled it out today. I figured I'm not giving the Government any information about me that they don't already have. One thing I found amusing, they ask you to complete the form immediately, but the questions are about people living in your home on April 1, 2010. If you fill it out immediately, it's not April 1, 2010 yet, is it? Honestly, the only questions I really find objectionable are the ones regarding race - questions 8 and 9. Particularly question 8, which asks if you're of "Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin." You either answer no, or answer yes and specify your Hispanic sub-type. Why are Hispanics being singled out with such specificity? The obsession with race seems like something the Nazis would have done on a Census.

Basically the only question that is required by law is number 1. The only question highlighted in a blue box. You could print this letter and mail it back with your census: http://forum.prisonplanet.com/index.php?topic=163444.0;topicseenTo Whom it May Concern, Pursuant to Article I, Section 2, Clause 3 of the Constitution, the only information you are empowered to request is the total number of occupants at this address. My “name, sex, age, date of birth, race, ethnicity, telephone number, relationship and housing tenure” have absolutely nothing to do with apportioning direct taxes or determining the number of representatives in the House of Representatives. Therefore, neither Congress nor the Census Bureau have the constitutional authority to make that information request a component of the enumeration outlined in Article I, Section 2, Clause 3. In addition, I cannot be subject to a fine for basing my conduct on the Constitution because that document trumps laws passed by Congress. Interstate Commerce Commission v. Brimson, 154 U.S. 447, 479 (May 26, 1894) “Neither branch of the legislative department [House of Representatives or Senate], still less any merely administrative body [such as the Census Bureau], established by congress, possesses, or can be invested with, a general power of making inquiry into the private affairs of the citizen. Kilbourn v. Thompson, 103 U.S. 168, 190. We said in Boyd v. U.S., 116 U. S. 616, 630, 6 Sup. Ct. 524,―and it cannot be too often repeated,―that the principles that embody the essence of constitutional liberty and security forbid all invasions on the part of government and it’s employees of the sanctity of a man’s home and the privacies of his life. As said by Mr. Justice Field in Re Pacific Ry. Commission, 32 Fed. 241, 250, ‘of all the rights of the citizen, few are of greater importance or more essential to his peace and happiness than the right of personal security, and that involves, not merely protection of his person from assault, but exemption of his private affairs, books, and papers from inspection and scrutiny of others. Without the enjoyment of this right, all others would lose half their value.’” Note: This United States Supreme Court case has never been overturned. Respectfully, A Citizen of the United States of America

Unless the government goes officially on record to say why the first question is in a blue-shaded box, I'll answer only #1. I'm a citizen, so they have me on record already, whether I like it or not. Ultimately, it doesn't matter on "congressional districting" for voting purposes, because a person that votes is already in their system as well. They use it for dishing out the "congressional cash".

I'm seriously considering checking "OTHER" instead of white or caucasian and writing in "CRACKER" or "HONKEY". Seriously though... I didn't find it to be all that invasive. If this is as bad as it gets, I don't have a real big problem with it.

Copies of the 2000 Census (Short and Long):http://www.census.gov/dmd/www/pdf/d61a.pdfhttp://nces.ed.gov/surveys/sdds/pdf/d61b.pdfLook at the Bottom of the 1st Page, it says: Respondents are not required to respond to any information collection unless it displays a valid approval number from the Office of Management and Budget.
OMB No. 0607-0856: Approval Expires 12/31/2000 So then, shouldn't this be on all of the pages of the questionnaire? Why is this verbage on the form at all? Does this mean you only really have to answer the first page in the Long Form and the first section in the Short Form? Isn't that really all the Constitution requires! I've heard Alex say something like this before. What do you think?

Did you lick the envelope? I didn't lick the envelope.
Also, I didn't think it was envasive, I just thought it was a stupid waste of time and money. They spent money sending out a letter a few weeks before to EVERYONE IN AMERICA saying they'll get their census and they have to fill it out or they get fined. THEN you get the census form, which isn't that envasive, and it says the SAME THING. Not only was there the census form, but there was the envelopes ALL of this crap gets sent in, the CRAP inside, the ink printed on all the CRAP, multipled by EVERYONE IN AMERICA. They've spent money on TV ads, jobs, websites, etc., etc. Tell me someone isn't skimming the cream off the top.
Then they ask you TWICE for your heritage. ONCE if you're hispanic, then again for everyone else. WTF? Why not just ask RACE? Why ask twice? It's because it says SPANISH ORIGIN. They're trying to round up the illegals. I'm all for soverignty, protecting our borders, but not if it means rounding people up and throwing them into DHS Blacksites. These things always begin with xenophobia, then they target sympathizers, then intellectuals, and then anyone else that disagrees with the powers that be.

The only question you are required to answer is #1. This is the only one required by law and the only one with any penalty for not answering ($100). Falsifying the first question can result in a fine of $500.
First off, read the law... Title 13 of the United States Code. Second, note that the first question is clearly separate from the rest by way of a box. Also note that your name is not on the addressee... this makes it blind and with good reason since it is ONLY for establishing apportionment requirements.

I got the 'prequel' to the census. The (UN)'American Survey' After several 'civil' talks with the census lady. She said... "just fill out what you feel comfortable with and leave the rest blank." I often wondered if she simply filled out the rest 'in my behalf' to meet her quota? I just got the census today. I haven't opened it up but it looks very thin in the envelope. TO ANSWER THE AUTHORS QUESTION...Tho ONLY information you are 'CONSTITUTIONALLY' required BY LAW to fill out are the number of occupants who 'reside' in your dwelling for congressional representational purposes. THE CENSUS WAS NOT INTENDED TO GET ANY OTHER INFORMATION FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSES. TO DO SO, VIOLATES YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. Mainly the fourth and most importantly, the fifth amendments.

You guys have itnot so bad if you can get away with only one question ! The new UK census is currently being compiled . . . and it looks to be a doozy! It says (in typical babblespeak) "New questions have been developed for topics where there is a new demand for information, and existing questions have been redeveloped to account for increasing or changing user requirements" http://www.ons.gov.uk/census/2011-census/2011-census-questionnaire-content/index.htmlMoreover, the Census is a compulsory exercise carried out on a self-enumeration basis and each householder is therefore required to complete all relevant questions on the questionnaire (with the exception of any question relating to religion – 40 Census 2011 – Helping to shape tomorrow see paragraph 3.60). This imposes constraints on the types of data that can be collected if high quality and accurate outputs are to be produced. Therefore the Census should not, in general: ask sensitive or potentially intrusive questions that would result in an unacceptable level of non-response ask questions that require a lengthy explanation or instruction to ensure an accurate answer (since research has shown that people often do not read such instructions) or seek information not readily known or that people are unlikely to remember accurately and which, as a consequence, is likely to be unreliable In summary, the UK Statistics Authority proposes that information on the following topics should be collected in the 2011 Census: At all properties occupied by households and for all unoccupied household accommodation: Address, including the postcode. For households: Number and names of all residents whether present or temporarily absent on Census night Name, usual address, sex and age of any visitor present on Census night Tenure of accommodation Type of accommodation and whether or not it is self-contained Type of landlord (for households in rented accommodation) Number of rooms (and bedrooms*) Type of central heating* Number of cars and vans owned or available For residents in households Name, sex, and date of birth Marital status (including civil partnership status*) Relationship to others within the household Student status Whether or not students live at enumerated address during term time Usual address one year ago Country of birth Citizenship (passports held)* Month and year of entry into the UK* and intended length of stay* (for non- UK born) National identity* and ethnic group Religion Language* Welsh language proficiency ( in Wales only) General health Long-standing illness or disability Provision of unpaid personal care Educational and vocational qualifications Second residence* Economic activity in the week before the Census Time since last employment Employment status Supervisor status Hours worked Job title and description of occupation Name of employer and nature of employer’s business at place of work (industry) Workplace address Means of travel to work Now is it just me - or is this way too much info for them to have? And what happens if you answer it wrongly - or misleadingly?

I got one today. It was a non-invasive one. How many live there and what is you race? I was hoping for one of those 150 question ones so I could just answer one question and send it back (how many people live there?).
Any census form that has more than the one question supported by the Constitution IS INVASIVE.

Here's their excuse for saying 'For this census, Hispanic is not considered a race': Is Person 1 of Hispanic, Latino or Spanish origin? Asked since 1970. The data collected in this question are needed by federal agencies to monitor compliance with anti-discrimination provisions, such as under the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act. State and local governments may use the data to help plan and administer bilingual programs for people of Hispanic origin. Then, Yahoo News put out an article about how Hispanic and African Americans were the most to not fill out the census, and that most 'white' people felt obligated. Think about the swine flu, made in a lab and was dropped in Mexico. Hispanic, Native American, and African people were 4 times more likely to die from swine flu than other races. Think about the Denver Airport murals, with African and Native American women in caskets. Think about the racism against Mexicans in America, resentment for taking jobs. This was happening with Japanese Americans in the 40's. There was a census in 1940, the info was given to the fbi to categorize Japanese Americans into groups based on how dangerous they seemed. When Pearl Harbor happened, they were taken away to barbed wire camps the next day. The racist Americans who were mad about them stealing all the work supported their encampment! I strongly feel it is important to not fill out the questions about race. Why don't they breakdown the different European 'white' races? I can't wait until we're all such mutts that we're all just considered human. I've turned my census in with only question #1 answered, which covered all they need to know. I'll let you know what they do next, since I received mine a week earlier than most people. I've got my highlighted Constitution handy!

I got mine and already sent it back with the number of residents, ages (without birthdays), and gender. There is nothing else they need. I also wrote on it that the only questions they have the authority to ask are the only ones I answered.
