Atherton, Gertrude. TLS. Typed Letter, Signed "Gertrude Atherton" re (inter alia) Bohemian Grove & Charles Caldwell Dobie. 1946. This is a two page letter (front & back) from Atherton to "Miss Kleeman." Rita Halle Kleeman was a socialite, a director of the international writers' group PEN, an associate of the Roosevelt family, and the author of biographies of both FDR and of his mother. Atherton discusses books she would be autographing for Kleeman and how much she misses Kleeman. She speaks of P.E.N. dinners she was sponsoring and laments the loss of author Charles Caldwell Dobie (died in 1943) who would arrange for the dinners to be held at the Bohemian Club (read Bohemian Grove). Letter is dated November 23, 1946,

I totally agree on the ythology of this subject I only have a couple questions for my own research purposes.Why is the owl and masonic or free-masonic societies linked with egyptian pharaohs who were themselfs masons in a sense...couldnt this be coincidence due to the fact that everyone has to build a home or shelter...and would be considered masons? idk what im trying to say,but it is all too confusing to be linked as linear instead of circumstancial,but I have an open mind,its society that makes me not fully expand it,lol.

Did you know there was a huge BUDDAH image in Bohemian
Grove before the BIG OWL?



But the main statue worshipped at Bohemian Grove was not always an Owl god ...  from the 1880's, there stood an idol of Buddha.

Unlike the current 'Owl' statue, which is made of stone, this was constructed from Gesso (aka Paris Plaster) which although good for sculpting, does not weather as slowly as other material.  It was because of this that the Buddha statue never lived to see its fiftieth birthday and some time around the late 1920's had to be replaced by the stone Owl that we know of today.

In the center of the idol (the belly) was a platform in which grove members could stand and pose for photographs, as depicted in my own impression opposite.
