Drasamis, you hit the nail right on the head. I know I have held off for many, many years from reaching out to others and discussing my thoughts. There have always been narcs (what we called them in school) trying to infiltrate and report on activities and whereabouts and now there are even more. Just ask any biker gang or separitist religious group.

I watched Ruby Ridge, Waco and the Branch Davidians go down as law enforcement rolled up to the gates in the name of public safety. Bigger target? Yes. Bigger threat? maybe, but IMO we stand a better chance as a group in a commune as opposed to a shack in the woods. I would much rather stand up to a siege condition than be picked off trying to gather lunch in the woods.

In my situtation, It would be the woods, or rather, a cave hidden about 45 miles into the canopy.
Basically living conditions will be a 10 by 12 shed built about 200 feet back in a corridor that has 2 ways out. water is plentiful and heating will be done with a small cast iron wood stove. cooling is done by the cave and stays an average 54F year round.  electricity will be solar, with a 2000 running watt inverter. wiring was easily concealed and after a weekend retreat noted that using compact cfl lighting along with a 20" computer moniter as a tv and cheapie 30 dollar dvd player ran quite effieciently on 3 hi cap marine batts. There was about a 45 percent reserve according to the charge controller after running about 10 hours on batt power alone..

also picked up some of those plastic portable green houses, the kind that you can put over the top of your garden in fall or early winter. Dunno how they will work, but if they keep the pests down to a minimum then they will be worth it for that alone.
as for humidity, it is very damp, and is an issue i have no idea on how  to combat
As for the panels they are quite large and hard to conceal. I would worry more of being discovered by aircraft from the glare they most certainly would reflect rather than by a roving patrol hiking into the middle of nowhere in search of abscounders.

As for being picked off by the powers that be, I find it highly unlikely in such a remote area, but either way have put primitive early warning ideas to good practice.

Plus, one who knows an area better than the enemy has the advantage. One would know to hide cache deposits in strategic lcations, or at the very least have a good escape route if the odds were against one (never keep your eggs in one basket).

I know i probably do not have the brightest idea in the world, but as long as i do not leave a trail or signs of human activity, might fare pretty well.

Either way, I would listen by shortwave, and keep in touch with like minded individuals and believe me there are more than many would think.

Look. Most of you are 1st time gun buyers. You don't know jack shit about calibers etc... The bigger the better. Go with NOTHING less than a .30 cal. If you want a pistol, get a 9mm, or .38 special, or .357 magnum. Those are REAL calibers. They will stop a punk at 30 yards, and put him out for the count. 7.62x39 is a SHORT .308 caliber. It is a Russian caliber (AK & SKS). Its not made to reach out past 300 yards. But at 100, it will kill instantly. A .223 might, but if the guy is big, you will have to hit him again to take him out, because he will be pissed when he gets up.

Get an AK, or SKS. If you are EXPERIENCED, get an SKS. If you know nothing, get an AK. Don't go with the AR-15 caliber types. If you have the $, then get an FN-FAL which shoots a full .308 caliber. It will reach out to 1k yards. It will really reach out, and touch someone. Its a full rifle.

Get MINIMUM 1k rounds. if you run into a war zone, 100 rounds will go in 3-5 minute. Most of you don't know shit about calibers. So you will be dumping $1 a round into a .30-30, where as an AK, its $5 for a box of 20, and the same for a .308 NATO.

I've been doing this a long time, I grew up on guns. If you are a complete fool, and can't aim worth a shit, get a high-cap .12 gauge shotgun that fires 3 inch shells. Get a crapload of slugs to reach out 100 yards, and some 3 inch buckshot for your street-type combat. A shotgun will throw someone 2 feet off the ground, where my AK would splat their brains all over the place.

I've been deer hunting since I was 8. My little BAR 7mm magnum ($1.50 a round) will drop a deer without him running, he just drops dead. It leaves an AWEFULL mess when the bullet exits the other side. My AK will kill one instantly with the right round. A deer, unlike most humans is tough, and won't give up when hit. They run. If I get hit, Ill be blazing mad enough to go against an army. If some thug hits me with a .223 round in the wrong spot hes gonna die. I'm not a big guy, but I'm wiry, and I have Norse & Scottish blood in me.

be smart with what you buy first you need a hunting rifle then a gun for self defense i would try to get them in the same cal.my m44 is for self defense.

Got plenty of food, and I have a natural spring on my property (been there for over 20 years), so water is plentiful. I'm also planting an organic garden in springtime too, so food no problem. Anything gets close to the garden, it will end up in the meat locker

Yeah they are loud me my dad and brother went out the other day with mosin I bought for my dad. he fired and I  was like holy shit I can't believe that gun is that loud. definately need some hearing protection when firing that one.

I'm in Canada, so gun registration is very hard here.  But we do have other things. Like I said.  that is why we are not getting a gun.   We are also very capable in martial arts.  Hapkido.  My husband myself and our children Know hand to hand combat!!

I'm gonna be pickin up a 9MM soon to add on to my hunting rifles. Don't forget books, warm clothes, superglue (to fix torn rubber soles on shoes/boots), sharpening stone for yer cutting utensils and the list goes on and on. If I were wealthy I would have no problem, sux bein a 9-5 regular working joe.

 Ohhhh ok. My bad. I learned a bit of GoJu Shurei (sp?) while I was in the Navy, and worked on it from time to time since then. I also know a couple Force Recon guys who have hand to hand skills too. I mostly enjoy the 'art of shock n' awe' too

i have a full tang shirayasha katana. this sword is no joke at all. even better is i know how to use it. i am by no means a master of the sword but i could take on 5 other people with simalar weapons and cut them all down  no problem at all. mines an actual sword from japan and was made in 1750 i think.a gift to me from a freind of mine who died giving birth to twins

Yes, by all means pick up a couple goos survival books. The SAS Survival Handbook is a good one, along with the Army's FM-21-76 field manual. I wrote an article a while back about a Martial Law survival pack. If requested I'll post it here.

Something with a minimum number of parts,or a .45.I did find a nice 22 revolver with an extra cylinder(maybe to shoot magnums I think?) for a price I can talk the guy down from.If that is what the extra cylinder is for then I will prob.go with that for myself or the wife(who doesn't like guns... ARGH!)and Jr has been shooting a while(just a few times-at 2yrs-12 ga.,at 5 yrs an SKS,and around 6 or 7 a 30-30-just enough to get him familiar with the mechanix of it.).

are they solid through the handle?I had one that wasn't and it broke on me so I just moved the handle up the blade and rewrapped it with a little extra glue to cover the sharp side of the blade and viola!a good sword...
until it was stolen.pist? yeah.still.just a little.still.

Hapkido is the most nastiest art, and it has been banned from many sports events.  In Hapkido you do what ever you need to do to win.  My husband was banned from joining the olympic team.  But yet the police force came to them and ask to be trained in the art!!  He trained police officers in our town which later labeled him as a dangerous criminal!!  Go figure!!

 A 9mm is a good choice for a handgun, along with a 44, 357, or 45. Something that uses a common caliber. I have a feeling ammo will be a currency in the 'dark time'. A 22LR or Mag is a good gun for self defense that is small and concealable, but will mostly just piss hem off unless you get a head shot. A revolver or a semiauto is purely a matter of personal choice. If I'm in close quarters, I also prefer a 12ga Flare gun
