They can't really have national ID cards any more.  Are you REQUIRED, even under the REAL ID Act to get a driver's license when you turn 18?  States have regular state IDs that a lot of people have instead of driver's license IDs that people use.  What about people who don't drive?  They still have a social security number, so they can get a job without a license (many jobs).  What about people under 18 years old?  National IDs for the newborns?  Can we trust kids not to lose their cards?  Cards.... they seem so ancient.  And how many states have even implemented the REAL ID requirements in order to get their citizens in line with the Act?  I know mine hasn't!

If we have to start going to the Post Office to get branded, then that will be different.  That wouldn't be from REAL ID, or any driver's license though.  And at that point, if people don't stand up and refuse that kind of registration, well... we should all know better than that by now.  And trying to push that kind of stuff after an "attack" will just raise even more eyebrows.  Nobody's buying the garbage any more.  So what if I can't enter any federal buildings or fly on a plane?  I think I'll survive just fine.  Smiley

This issue is something that requires a public referendum. The government can't just up and decide, "Hey, that's it people, you're ALL going to have to get national id cards". If that isn't dictatorship then what is? I don't believe that this will work. Too many people who won't go along with it. If the Canadian government tries something like this I'll be the first to shoot a few holes into it and mail it back. We'll see how you like that you scumbag government!

Here's a site that will give you some info on it:  http://www.norealid.com

I mean, think about this - You move, and stay in the same state.  You don't update your driver's license for the new address.  How many people have done that???  Wow.  I guess Homeland Insecurity is going to just HOPE people update their driver's licenses?  We wouldn't know what to do with ourselves if our information was inaccurate now, would we?  What if I grow an inch taller?  Do I have to go get a new license to reflect that information?  What if my weight changes drastically?  What if someone gets a nose job, or changes their facial structure?  After all, we have to make sure the government has accurate information on all of us so they can lose laptops with all of our personal information on them...

Im pretty sure there are a bunch of states that have said they are against any form of a real id act.  Lets hope they hold true to their words.  Im pretty sure Montana is one of them (where I live).  Personally, I dont think they will really go through with all of this.  It is merely alot of hype.  If they do try and pull something, there will be too  many legal battles with the states that it will not go through is what Im hoping.  Hopefully it never even comes up.  A state  drivers license works perfectly fine.

Yes, and never mind that the STATES are going to have to pony up for the cash to pay for much of the implementation of the REAL ID.  It's just too bad most of them can't afford that!  Smiley

The deadline has already been pushed back to May 2008.  It will probably (realistically) be pushed back AGAIN, and that would be great.  We can get Ron Paul into office and take care of this mess.

My "license" was suspended for not paying $2000 in fines Tongue Tongue Tongue, I can't take a joke, not anymore. My old license expired 2004, and a TSA screener was nice enough to point it out in 2005. I didn't care, "I don't drive anymore anyway, ty for telling me though."

I will get alot more edgy when they turn those tollroads into roadblock checkpoints comrade.

I wonder if France is forcing a "National ID"? I speak read write fluent, I can check, but my curiousity is flagging. They do have Euros which are bad enough, no Franc notes.

Don't forget your comrades in the pacific are having the same debate.

I posted a story about it but no biters...

Apparently the legislation has stalled (So far) because of 2 dissenters within the party who saw it as a National ID and not an access card to roll 72 welfare, healthcare, employment cards into 1.

But depending on next week's election the national ID card isn't popular.
