Hi,

I keep reading people posting that the best possible defense against swine flu/flu/plague or whatever it is, is 5*RDA Vitamin D. The problem is how?
So my questions are:

a) In the summer how many minutes/hours etc would you need to be in the sun for 5*RDA
b) In the winter how do you get these 5*RDA (Here in the UK its cloudy and raining most of winter)
c) What are the alternatives...Food wise (I do not eat things like cornflakes,milk,margarine that is fortified..so none fortified would be best)
d) If you take vitamins, do you take a multi-vit and then a Vit D one on top? or is there another way to do this without taking a vitamin tablet?

a) Between 11am-2pm, if you're in a bathing suit in clear, chemtrail free summer skies, you can produce between 10k-20k IU of D3 in 10-20 minute period. Since 5*RDA is 5*400=2k IU, you might be able to get this in just a few minutes.
b) In winter UK, take the supplement. The sun doesn't do you much good when, as a general rule, your shadow is longer than your body anyway. But consider taking more than just 2k IU of D3 per day, especially during the next couple months of this flu situation. I personally am taking 5k IU per day, but considering moving to 10k IU like Dr. Rima Laibow.
c) You get the biggest D3 bang from fish, especially salmon. Tuna works too, and so does Cod Liver Oil which gives you 400-1000 IU per teaspoon.
d) Do what I did and get a good D3 5000 IU per pill supplement. Always take a good multi anyway, and consider adding a good E supplement (if E is weak in your multi) since D3 is fat soluble so you want some of that E cholesterol to enhance absorption.
