WASHINGTON — Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the self-described mastermind of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and four other men accused in the plot will be prosecuted in federal court in New York City, the United States attorney general announced Friday. But the administration will prosecute another set of high-profile detainees now being held at the military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba — Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, who is accused of planning the 2000 bombing of the Navy destroyer Cole in Yemen, and four other detainees — before a military commission. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. said he would seek the death penalty against the five defendants if they are found guilty in federal court. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/14/us/14terror.html?partner=rss&emc=rssAfter this is all over they say obama will close guantanamo prison..

I'll believe that one when I see it. That base/prison give us a good excuse to be down in Cuba to 'watch them.' No administration is going to close it down completely.

I'm with you on that point and don't think they will close it down but then again it doesn't matter as long as they control the prison just like the "American Police Force" takeover in Montana that asked to house Guantanamo inmates.

New ACLU Video Features 9/11 Families Asking For True Justice http://www.911blogger.com/node/21832Submitted by Jon Gold on Wed, 11/11/2009 - 8:01pm. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: (212) 549-2689 or 2666; media@aclu.orgNEW YORK – A new video released by the American Civil Liberties Union today features family members of 9/11 victims calling for federal trials of terrorism suspects. The Obama administration is expected to announce by November 16 whether certain Guantánamo detainees will be transferred to the U.S. for trial in federal courts or be tried in the illegitimate military commissions. “ It is of utmost importance to me that those who were responsible for the attacks of 9/11 face a court,” says Adele Welty in the ACLU video. Her son was a New York firefighter killed at the World Trade Center. “It’s very important to me that we get the right people,” says John Leinung, whose stepson was killed while working in the Twin Towers. “That the right people are punished or held to account for what happened on 9/11.” Pat Perry, whose son was a police offer killed on 9/11, says she would rather see the Guantánamo detainees who have been held without charge “appear in open court where we can all sift out what we feel is really the truth and the judges can make a decision based on our Constitution.” These 9/11 family members all say they agree that holding detainees without charge in Guantánamo is a betrayal of American values and they look forward to true justice being served in federal court. “My son gave his life to save those trapped in the Twin Towers,” Welty says, “and it does not honor him that we violate our Constitution in retaliation for what happened on September 11.”

FOX is interviewingg a single 9/11 family victim to explain her side about not wanting the trial here.
Funny how FOX ignores the majority of family members.
"I do not know a single family member who does not believe those terrosists should be in Gitmo."
wow, I bestow consolences on the loss of her loved one and am ashamed that the media is still using victims to dictate suicidal policies.

Of course "9/11" happened in NYC. Therefore they have every right to try them there. But will they be able to get an impartial jury?
I think it sets up NYC for a real terror attack by Middle Easterners OR ANOTHER FALSE FLAG BY YOU KNOW WHO. OF COURSE THEY WILL BLAME THIS (IF IT HAPPENS) ON THE TRIAL ITSELF. Just like the Rodney King Incident back in 1992 and 1993.
What do you all think?

What do you know? An article about what I was thinking about? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33919478/ns/us_news-securityNew Yorkers voice concerns about 9/11 trial Some worry alleged mastermind will use court to incite more violence This July photo from the Arabic-language Web site www.muslm.net shows a man identified as Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the accused mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks, in detention at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. updated 5:58 p.m. CT, Fri., Nov . 13, 2009 NEW YORK - The move to put the self-proclaimed Sept. 11 mastermind on trial just blocks from ground zero raises a host of legal, political and security questions, chief among them: Can a fair-minded jury be found in a city still nursing deep wounds from the attack on the World Trade Center Some also worry that the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will make New York an even bigger terrorist target, and that he will use the proceedings to incite more violence against Americans. The loudest protests Friday came from relatives of the victims, many of whom oppose any civilian trial for terror suspects — especially at the federal courthouse 1,000 yards from the spot where nearly 3,000 people died. Story continues below ↓ advertisement | your ad here "If we have to bring them to the United States, New York City is not the place to have it, let alone in a courthouse that is in the shadows of the twin towers," said Lee Ielpi, whose firefighter son died in the 9/11 attacks. The city's wounds, he said, are simply still too raw. "Ripping that scab open will create a tremendous hardship," he said. Some city leaders seemed to relish the chance to hold the evildoers accountable at the scene of the crime. "It is fitting that 9/11 suspects face justice near the World Trade Center site where so many New Yorkers were murdered," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. New York Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly also said that holding the trial in the city most devastated by the 2001 attack is appropriate, and he pronounced the Police Department prepared to meet any security challenge. Previous terrorism cases tried It may be years before Mohammed is brought to trial, and there is no guarantee the proceedings will actually be held in the city. A defense attorney is almost certain to ask the judge to move the proceedings to someplace less likely to produce a jury tainted by extreme hatred of the defendant, said James Benjamin, a New York City lawyer who has studied terrorism prosecutions. Still, he added, the city has handled big terrorism cases before. Trials arising from the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and another plot to attack city landmarks were held in federal court in New York. Manhattan has jails ready to receive Mohammed. Terrorism defendants have been taken to the Metropolitan Correctional Center — a 10-story building next to the courthouse — and placed in solitary confinement in 10 South, a cellblock for high-risk prisoners. AP From left: Ali Abd al-Aziz Ali, Waleed bin Attash, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Mustafa Ahmad al-Hawsawi and Ramzi Binalshibh. For the 2001 trial in the bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa, spectators had to pass through two sets of metal detectors, the courtroom and surrounding hallways were monitored around the clock, and videotape recorded any movements. The defendants were strip-searched before being led through a passageway connecting the jail to the courthouse. Their feet were shackled throughout the proceedings, the chains shielded from the jury by a curtain attached to the defense table. "The courts have handled many sensational cases fairly and effectively over the years," Benjamin said. Civil-rights groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union and Human Rights Watch, said Muhammad is likely to be treated more fairly in New York, despite the hatred for him here, than he would before a military tribunal. 'It will be a travesty!' In announcing that Mohammed and four other Guantanamo Bay detainees will be brought to trial in New York, Attorney General Eric Holder expressed confidence that a "searching, complete" selection process would produce a fair-minded jury. "We can come up with a process that ensures the defendants can get a fair trial in New York," he said. Still, others with close personal ties to the case predicted chaos. "It will be a travesty!" said Debra Burlingame, sister of Charles Burlingame, one of the pilots of the airliners hijacked on Sept. 11. She said Mohammed's court appearances will be a "three-ring circus," with the defendant using every opportunity to spout anti-American views as he did in front of 9/11 family members who traveled to Guantanamo to face him in court. "He's going to be exulting in the suffering of the families," she said. "He will ridicule the judge. He will ridicule his lawyers. He will rally his jihadi brothers all over the world to kill more Americans." She said she was sickened by "the prospect of these barbarians being turned into victims by their attorneys." King, who previously complained to the attorney general that transferring Guantanamo detainees to New York for a trial "will make New York City that much more of a target," said he hadn't changed his mind about the risk. As for Mohammed, the congressman warned: "I think this is the moment he's been waiting for."

A risky setting for NYC trial of 9/11 suspects By DEVLIN BARRETT (AP) – 42 minutes ago WASHINGTON — In a move both politically and legally risky, the Obama administration plans to put on trial the professed mastermind of the Sept. 11 terror attacks and four alleged accomplices in a lower Manhattan courthouse. The venue for the biggest trial in the age of terrorism means prosecutors must balance difficult issues such as rough treatment of detainees and sensitive intelligence-gathering with the Justice Department's desire to prove that the federal courts are able to handle terrorism cases. Attorney General Eric Holder announced the decision Friday to bring Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four others detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to trial in a courtroom barely a thousand yards from the site of the World Trade Center's twin towers they are accused of destroying. Trying the men in civilian court will bar evidence obtained under duress and complicate a case where anything short of slam-dunk convictions will empower President Barack Obama's critics. U.S. civilian courts prohibit evidence obtained through coercion, and a number of detainees were questioned using harsh methods some call torture. Holder insisted both the court system and the untainted evidence against the five men are strong enough to deliver a guilty verdict and the penalty he expects to seek: a death sentence for the deaths of nearly 3,000 people who were killed when four hijacked jetliners slammed into the towers, the Pentagon and a field in western Pennsylvania. "After eight years of delay, those allegedly responsible for the attacks of September the 11th will finally face justice. They will be brought to New York — to New York," Holder repeated for emphasis, "to answer for their alleged crimes in a courthouse just blocks away from where the twin towers once stood." Holder said he decided to bring Mohammed and the other four before a civilian court rather than a military commission because of the nature of the undisclosed evidence against them, because the 9/11 victims were mostly civilians and because the attacks took place on U.S. soil. Lawyers for the accused will almost certainly try to have charges thrown out based on the rough treatment of the detainees at the hands of U.S. interrogators, including the repeated waterboarding, or simulated drowning, of Mohammed. The question has been raised as to whether the government can make its case without using coerced confessions, but prosecutors have other evidence including a written confession from Mohammed and other statements and documents to bolster their case. Held at Guantanamo since September 2006, Mohammed said in military proceedings there that he wanted to plead guilty and be executed to achieve what he views as martyrdom. In a letter from him released by the war crimes court, he referred to the attacks as a "noble victory" and urged U.S. authorities to "pass your sentence on me and give me no respite." Holder insisted the case is on firm legal footing, but he acknowledged the political ground may be more shaky when it comes to bringing feared al-Qaida terrorists to U.S. soil. "To the extent that there are political consequences, I'll just have to take my lumps," he said. But any political consequences will reach beyond Holder to his boss, Obama. Bringing such notorious suspects to U.S. soil to face trial is a key step in Obama's plan to close the military-run detention center in Cuba. Obama initially planned to close the prison by next Jan. 22, but the administration is not expected to meet that deadline. Obama said he is "absolutely convinced that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will be subject to the most exacting demands of justice. The American people will insist on it and my administration will insist on it." The five suspects headed to New York are likely to face thousands of counts of murder and conspiracy. Mohammed and the four others — Waleed bin Attash, Ramzi Binalshibh, Mustafa Ahmad al-Hawsawi and Ali Abd al-Aziz Ali — are all accused of orchestrating the 2001 attacks. The government also announced five other Guantanamo detainees, including the alleged mastermind of the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, would be sent to military commissions to face charges. Associated Press writers Pete Yost, Mark Sherman and Jesse J. Holland in Washington, David B. Caruso in New York and Ben Fox and Mike Melia in San Juan contributed to this report. These men have been tortured, waterboarded, beaten, depraved of humane treatment in any form.
The too have familys, they are aware if they do not play the game the possability of something happenning to their loved ones is a reality. A deal could be going on that the public is not aware of??
Enough is enough, this is a show, independent wether or not it goes public.
These guys know their going to be executed, they are probably releived, they are getting out of the nightmare.
Water board a human being in the numbers they have these guys and they would admit to being donald duck for FK sake.
Interesting isn't it, the years have gone by, and these men have been incarcerated and tortured, excuse me , enhanced interrogation. Along with the fact that the prosecutors have more than enough time to gather, or put together whatever the hell they wanted to.
I doubt in the extreme that this will be a truthfull, unslanted, uncoherced, unbiased trial,no matter how much we would enjoy seeing the truth exposed.
After what these gents have been through does anyone actually beleive they have not been broken, intimidated, effected mentlly , that they will jump up and say the truth???
The hypocracy, Obamam clims he will close Gitmo, SURE, and he will stop the wars, find a conscience, stand up to the NWO looneys, try the war criminals, allow an independent investigation of 911, that he will fry the FED for robbing the citizenry, abide by his oath to uphold the constitution?? YUP we beleive Oby the savior.* Or could it be that Shillery will come clean, or Rice, or Powell, or Kissinger or Pelosi??? Seems to me the Bush gang is now working with our Mr. Obama. The same masters pulling the strings, and the same puppets dominating the Gov.

No, how many?
as far as 9/11 truth, i believe there are more in NY than anywhere else in the world. Not sure, but WAC came from NY, so did the Feelgood Foundation. People were personally affected in NY (plus NJ) and the people in the area deserve to know the truth about 9/11 as they were most affected (before the illegal wars started of course). I do not see how trying them in NY (the geography alone) dictates a trial that will be too biased against them. After 8 years of questions unanswered, don't the people of NY deserve to know what evidence they have that these are the guys that did the crime?

Maybe we should ask KSM how Hani Hanjour was able to execute a 330 degree downward turn, decend six thousand feet in 2 and a half minutes, then enter a steep dive and descend a futher two thousand feet in 40 seconds, then pull up out of the dive at 500 miles per hour and overcome the enormous G-Forces that would have created and then knock down 5 light poles in less than a second while maintaining the perfect trajectory required to hit the ground floor of the Pentagon a second later without touching the lawn... all without attracting the attention of the US Air Defence.

Her father, after all, is the man many Democrats and liberals think broke the law in pushing for interrogation techniques now deemed torture by the Obama administration, and which were used on Al Qaeda plotter Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. The anti-trial group is led by Debra Burlingame — whose brother piloted one of the doomed planes — and who is a guiding light at 9/11 Families for a Safe & Strong America. The 9/11 Families group had as a springboard Keep America Safe, a Liz Cheney vehicle where Burlingame serves on the board. “Perhaps they’re trying to protect her father’s role in torturing these detainees,” said Lorie Van Auken, who lost her husband on 9/11. “And that’s actually what could keep us from seeing justice, is this torture that was done to these people because that evidence is not really evidence. It won’t be admissible anywhere.” Auken was speaking on a conference call organized by the liberal Human Rights First. Later, she declined to back off her statement. “You start to wonder why Liz Cheney would be organizing the 9/11 families,” she said. “It’s just a funny connection.” Below is the press conference Burlingame did today with Rep. Pete King and others, posted online by Keep America Safe, in which they call for the trial to be canceled and announce a Dec. 5 rally.

All eyes are opened, or opening, to the rights of man. The general spread of the light of science has already laid open to every view the palpable truth, that the mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately

Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, and his trial, his defense? What could it possibly be? he is now pleading NOT guilty...Will he try to say what some of us may be thinking? ...is this a way for President Obama to get to the truth of what happened on 9 -11 but indirectly? A new revisit, a second commission? Killing two birds with one stone? I mean really if this was an inside job then Khalid Shaikh Mohammed is not even guilty of Jaywalking, is he??
Could Khalid Shaikh Mohammed's Lawyers use that as a possible defense? Hey, Bush did it? Hmmmm, they would have to go through all the gory details including and FINALLY building 7. by the way did any of you folks know that the CTV and CBC in Canada had reported that Bldg 7 was demolished in the afternoon. They later changed their story. But one of the head pushes for the Canadian liaison for the AP, had noted it as a demolition, since he had just completed a story on building demolitions a few months back....hmmmmm....this trial is going to be VERY interesting!!!
