Hey, absolutely no power at all when i switch the thing on.
I've tried un-hooking all the hardware one by one but still nada.
I've just now dis-connected the power supply unit and i'm gonna have a look inside...
I must go out a message now anyway but please post your suggestions if ya can.

Sounds like the power supply might be kaput, try plugging in a different one if you have one, or procuring one if you don't. If you need a new one, calculate the wattage required and buy one from a reputable brand (eg. Vantec) or take your chances with a generic one.

Thanks, i'm gonna try the psu with another mobo i have.
If all fails, i'll have to crank up the old laptop.

power supply is the usual cause. If your computer box is dirty, I would use a vacuum and clean it out. Iusually have better luck with an air compressor to blow the sucker out. Make sure to vacuum or blow the power supply too.

i' back on with my old laptop, turns out the old psu couldn't take the recent upgrades i made, and only a couple days ago i upped the power supply to the RAM also.
Right now i'm trying to get my screen back on the lcd, these laptop screens give me sore eyes with their 60Mhz refresh.
Also i now got the show on and that's the main thing. Smiley

Speaking of power supplies, have any of you realised that its insane to have a 500W power supply unit ?

Yah,... Im curious what my desktop at home is... probably 350w or something. Im considering selling it and going to a system76 laptop. I know a couple of people who both have Servals and they are in love with their laptops now. Plus the lower wattage is enticing. Im sure its lower than 350w thats for sure. They also have a "nettop" computer starting at $350.... thats only 84 watts. It would make a nice home theater system with Boxee (XBMC) or something similar on it.

Test PSU:
take a paper clip, unfold it until it's straight, bend it in half with a loose bend, bow the legs out and make the last centimeter of each leg parallel to each other, wrap the opposite end (bend end) with electric tape, pull big power supply plug from motherboard, connect blue (second from a side) with black using your paper clip tool, if the fans for the PSU turn on, your mobo may be bad, if the PSU does nothing, the PSU is bad.  You must ground blue to turn on the PSU because the motherboard keeps blue grounded to keep the PSU on.

Thanks Lucian, earlier i tried plugging it into my old mobo and the fan never went on,
nor would it power any usb port.
It's in the bin now, was a crapper i got with the comp anyways.

Luckily i had an old printer one that works.

LoL that's a rarity!  Never seen a power cable fail, but I guess that's the rule of statistics, there must be at least one example of such a failure to justify that outcome ^_^
