Quebec woman dies after contracting H1N1 virus

Updated: Wed Nov. 04 2009 5:17:04 PM

http://montreal.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20091103/mtl_childrens_er091104/20091103/

A 42-year-old Quebec woman has died from complications resulting from the H1N1 virus.

It is the third death in the province since September.

The woman, who worked at the Monteregie Health and Social Services Centre, died Tuesday night.

Public health officials said the woman was not a nurse or front line worker who was in contact with patients.

She had also received the H1N1 vaccination on Oct. 29, two days before coming down with symptoms of the flu.

Montreal public health agency alters vaccination plan

Montreal's public health agency says young children will get the H1N1 shot sooner than originally planned, as CTV Montreal's Cindy Sherwin first reported Tuesday.

The official announcement was made on Wednesday morning for ten mass vaccination centres that will be opened from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Montreal vaccinations scheduled for Friday Nov. 6 for families with babies under 6 months, along with people with weak immune systems, will instead take place one day early, on Thursday, Nov. 5.

Additionally, children under the age of 5 -- originally scheduled for vaccinations beginning Monday, Nov. 9 -- will be added to that priority group.

The health agency says the decision is the result of many children coming down with the flu.

"Everyone will get their turn"

Montreal public health officials even those who are in good health should be vaccinated - but they will have to wait their turn.

Here is the schedule, from the Montreal Health and Social Services Centre:

As of November 5

    * Children 6 months to 5 years of age
    * Parents, brothers and sisters of infants less than 6 months of age
    * Women more than 20 weeks pregnant (vaccine with adjuvant**)
    * Pregnant women with a chronic medical condition (vaccine with adjuvant**)

**As recommended by medical and public health authorities

As of November 9

    * Women who are less than 20 weeks pregnant

As of November 16

    * Individuals less than 18 years of age suffering from a chronic medical condition ((people with diabetes, asthma, bronchitis, heart failure, etc.)

As of November 23

    * Individuals between 18 and 65 years of age suffering from a chronic medical condition (people with diabetes, asthma, bronchitis, heart failure, etc.)

As of December 7

    * Youth 5 to 18 years of age
    * Adults 19 to 65 years of age

It was a mere 2 years ago that when the swine flu was being talked about, these people that were talking about it were being labeled as "conspiracy theorists".

Sad, very sad...

I had posted this somewhere today, it's amazing though when I show this article to my colleagues at work they dismiss it as irrelevant,  they are still taking the shot and a few who said no a couple of weeks ago are now saying they will take it, the propagnda machine is working

Not trying to speak for your colleagues, but most everyone around me seem to be more concerned over their favorite football teams than over the REAL issues.

Sad really, especially b/c their own lives are at stake.

Don't be sorry, Donnay - what you highlighted in red is the most important part, yet also the most under-addressed part of the story. Classic MSM spin. Big media are run by sleazy traitors. But we knew that already. Cry

Yep, it's SO sad that they just can't be bothered. It blows my mind.

Ridiculous more than sad.  I tried educating a mother of 3 today and she looked at me and said that she really wasn't interested in any vaccine information, "it's boring".  She's a really good person and a good mother and yet she couldn't listen to me at all.  Her eyes glazed over.

My girkfriend does the same I tell her about oxy-silver and she still thinks  she should get the shots cuz she had a bad flu a few years back.

I did too but I got a Flonase prescription and I was fine in a few days.

LOL! No, we ain't gonna take it!

Too bad that the pro-vaxers think that the vax takes 2-3 weeks to give any immunity and then you need another booster or two to get some real protection, so this article will just make them think that they need to get the vax asap before they get the flu, instead of that the vax killed actually someone.

Pretty sick how they are pushing the 'priority' on babies and kids and making sure pregnant women get some squalene adjuvant asap.  What an attack on this generation!

I live in Quebec montreal  and let me tell you  that we are under massive brainwashing campain. Every times we open the TV its  A H1N1 IS HERE. The healt minister of quebec is at least 1-2 a day on tv doing a press conference on the situation and its always worst and worst but they say do not panic everything is ok  BUT SOMEONE IS DEAD  OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!         They were talking about the women this week and they even made an articles     ( traduction )  She told me she love me, kissed me good bye and she died right there in mi arm. The articles is about 2 pages long on how sad it is and the plan they had to build a cabin in the wood near a lake and buy some kayak  and go spend the summer there whit there 13 years old boy. The couple was against vaccination but now the men and is boy are totaly for it and are asking everyone to go get vaccinated  or they could loose a loved one like him. After poeple learned that she was vaccinated  the health official immediatly went on tv to say that it had no link to the vaccine and that she already had the flu before getting vaccinated.

For the last 2 month every news channel and our govnernement has been trying to scare the poeple in quebec. At first it wasnt working but now all the clinic are being invaded by parents who want to vaccinate there children..... its crazy.

I don't understand why anyone thinks giving infants children and pregnant women this vaccine is a good thing.

How Dangerous Are Nanoparticles?May edition of Nano Today calculates risks of nanotechnology By Sci/Tech News Staff, -

Nano Today launches a dedicated forum for debate on the effects of nanoparticles on human health. Andrew Maynard of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars calls for a strategic approach to research on potential risks to ensure the development of safe, publicly acceptable nanotechnology products.

Nanotechnology has been touted as the next technology revolution, transforming everything from communications to medicine, water decontamination to homeland security. But scientific progress has been accompanied by fears over unknown consequences of nanotechnology, with one pressure group even calling for a moratorium on all research until more is known. More specific concerns have been voiced by various parties - including the UK Royal Society and Royal Academy of Engineering - about exposure to manufactured nano-sized particles and the possible harmful effects on human health. The future success of nanotechnology will depend on rational and informed work to understand and minimize these potential adverse effects on health and the environment.

"We need to understand both how harmful a substance is, and how much of it can get into the body, if risk is to be understood and managed," says Maynard. Nanoparticles may have greater reactivity, and so toxicity, than larger sized particles. Because of their size, nanoparticles may also invade some of the body's natural defense systems and accumulate in some tissues. But currently, there is little information on the impact of engineered nanoparticles, and what there is can be contradictory.

Maynard begins by saying that not all nanomaterials are likely to be of concern. He sets out from the vast range of available nanoscale materials those that are likely to be relevant to human health. Maynard then reviews what has been established about the behavior of nanomaterials in the body, considering how nanoparticles may get into the body via the lungs, skin, or digestive system as well as possible toxic effects.

But risks from even harmful nanoparticles only arise if there has been exposure to a high enough dose. The current picture of how nanomaterials might be released and dispersed in the environment is described in the article, as well as ways of measuring exposure.

"Not only is it necessary to consider the potential for engineered nanomaterials to be released in a form that leads to exposure, chemical and structural transformations between the point of release and the point of exposure will also likely determine health impact," explains Maynard.

Maynard suggests how potential risks should be managed alongside public awareness of the issues. By providing a context for considering these risks, he is able to suggest directions for further work to ensure the development of safe nanotechnology-based products.

Nano means billionth, so a nanometer is a billionth of a meter. That is clearly very small: on this scale, a human hair is enormous at 100 000 nm across and even red blood cells are thousands of nanometers in diameter. But a DNA molecule, for example, is 2 nm wide. At this level, the properties of materials (electronic, optical, magnetic, etc.) can differ significantly from those at a larger scale, leading to many new possible applications. Nanotechnology is the design and production of materials, devices, and systems at this fundamental, molecular scale.
