According to analysis of genetic testing done by the World Health Organization, the Ukraine flu virus is an H1N1 mutation that is similar to the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic. The two flu virus outbreaks both have changes in the receptor binding domain D225G, and similar symptoms, which include bleeding in the lungs. Current estimates of the deaths attributed to the Ukraine flu outbreak is as many as 400, and increasing daily.

Spanish flu pandemic

In 1918, the Spanish flu pandemic killed between 20 million and 40 million people. The pandemic took place during the end of World War I, but ten times as many Americans died from the Spanish Flu as died in the war - nearly 700,000. The most severely struck regions were in areas of high humidity. Some speculation existed that the Spanish flu was an early attempt at a biological weapon due to the extremely high death rate, and symptoms that included bleeding in the lungs.H1N1 Mutation in the Ukraine

The H1N1 mutation in the Ukraine also includes the symptoms of bleeding in the lungs, and has been described as an infection that completely destroys the lungs. The receptor binding proteins present in the Spanish flu and in swine flu mutations that result in bleeding lungs and death are the same. A virus attaches to charged molecules on cells. Some attach to proteins and others to lipids, but the type of molecule differs between viruses. The virus samples analyzed by the World Health Organization from the Ukraine flu showed a different receptor binding pattern than the original swine flu virus, but the same as the receptor binding pattern as the 1918 Spanish flu.

Panic in Ukraine over swine flu

Officials in Ukraine have closed schools for three weeks, imposed travel restrictions and are limiting public events as the country battles to stop the spread of swine flu.

More than 60 people are believed to have died of respiratory problems in the past week, and the measures are among the toughest to be implemented in Europe to tackle the virus.

It's still not clear whether all the deaths were caused by swine flu, but the news has sparked panic, and people have started wearing masks across the country.

Appeal for calm

The Ukrainian health minister Vasyl Knyazevych has asked the media only to report the comments of medical experts following a series of misleading reports which fuelled public anxiety.

On national television, he said Ukraine had the same problems as the rest of the world.

He also called on fellow politicians to give people 'a week of silence,' and said there was no need for panic.

However, his calls may already be too late.

255,000 cases of flu and acute respiratory problems have been registered among the 46m population. 15,000 have been hospitalised.

The World Health Organisation says there is no evidence to suggest that Ukraine had a bad outbreak of swine flu, but it has agreed to send a team there to help the country cope.

President Viktor Yushchenko has also appealed for international help.

Government response

The government has faced growing criticism of its handling of the outbreak.

Some opposition politicians have been particularly critical of the health minister who they not only want to be sacked, but jailed.


Opposition politicians from the Party of the Regions say the first reported cases were at the beginning of October, but by middle of the month there had already been confirmed deaths.

They say the authorities should have provided accurate information about the outbreak so that Ukrainians could seek appropriate medical help.

Instead, the opposition says, many people have resorted to self-treatment.

Experts say Ukraine was unprepared for the swine flu outbreak, and the hunt for political scapegoats is likely to continue.

The opposition leader, Viktor Yanukovych, has called on parliament to scrutinise the government's actions.

Investigation calls

The influential National Security and Defence Council has called on the judiciary to investigate why Ukraine was unable to prevent the outbreak.

President Viktor Yushchenko has even asked the country's security service to look at whether pharmacies are guilty of price-fixing anti-flu medications.


Critics have also rounded on Ukrainian television channels which they say have wall-to-wall coverage of Ukraine's leading politicians, but not leading medical specialists.

This, they say, is exacerbating public concern rather than allaying popular fears.

Some analysts say swine flu is being used by the President and his arch rival the Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to score political points ahead of presidential elections in January.

Supporters of Prime Minister Tymoshenko, who remains at bitter loggerheads with the President, say he is trying to blame her government for the situation.

Playing politics

Aware of the electoral sensitivities, she assured the Ukrainian public that she stood with them, and took "every responsibility for the government's handling of swine flu on herself."

"The world has given us not one, but two great trials - first, the financial crisis and now this horrible flu."

Ukraine's leading political analysts say the handling of swine flu has become one of the key electoral issues.

According to them, rival candidates are seeking to take the initiative in battling the spread of the virus.

"The swine flu outbreak has overshadowed all the other negative campaigning we were seeing, especially around Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko," says Vitaly Kulyk, a political scientist at Kiev's Centre for Civil Society.

"The main players are using the flu in their propaganda war," he adds.

Appeals for help

Opposition leader Viktor Yanukovych, whose party is backed by Ukraine's most powerful oligarch, has called on Ukrainians to donate to a special fund which was set up by his party.

He said he wanted to hold a TV marathon to raise funds to fight the epidemic.

The first aircraft to arrive in Ukraine from Switzerland carrying emergency medical supplies, was met by the country's leadership.

They demonstrated how to put face masks on in front of cameras.

Many Ukrainians however, are asking why their government did not act sooner.

It was evident in May or June that swine flu was spreading around the world, they say, yet Ukraine failed to stockpile sufficient supplies of medication.

Only now, when Ukraine faces an epidemic of swine flu, has the government started to act.

Ukraine: Epidemic officially over?
The Kyiv Post seems to be offline this morning, but the blog What's Up, Ukraine? published an interesting post yesterday: The Miraculous Healing. Government is to declare the conclusion of flu epidemic in Ukraine, but what will be the next ‘red herring’ for the nation? Excerpt:

    After more than two weeks of alarmed statements of top Ukrainian officials concerning the flu expansion through all the regions of Ukraine, the tone of state evaluation of the health situation in country has changed dramatically.

    Now everyone, starting from functionaries of the Health Ministry and finishing with the Prime Minister herself, is talking about the end of the flu epidemic in Ukraine. Miraculous healing of the nation, isn’t it? 

    Tomorrow the decision on termination of quarantine state in Ukrainian schools, universities and other institutions is to be taken. Almost no one is wearing protection mask in public places. Candidates for Presidential election are vigorously preparing new multi-thousand public rallies.

The CDC has published its weekly 2009 H1N1 U.S. Situation Update, as always with a lot of information. Between August 30 (when it adopted a new counting system) and November 17 the CDC reports 26,315 lab-confirmed influenza hospitalizations and 1,049 deaths. Between April and August, using a different system, the CDC reported 9,079 H1N1 hospitalizations and 593 deaths.

The CDC's "what's new" page lists a great many new documents today, most of them for healthcare professionals.

Pandemic (H1N1) 2009, Ukraine

On 28 October 2009, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine informed WHO, through its Country Office in Ukraine, about an unusually high level of activity of acute respiratory illness in the western part of the country, associated with an increased number of hospital admissions and fatalities.

On 30 October 2009, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine announced the confirmation of pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection by RT-PCR in eleven out of 30 samples obtained from patients presenting with acute respiratory illness in two of the most affected regions. Tests were performed in two laboratories in Kyiv, including the National Influenza Centre. Confirmatory tests will be performed at one of the WHO Collaborating Centres for Influenza.

The situation is quickly changing with increasingly high levels of acute respiratory illness (ARI)/Influenza-like-illness (ILI) activity being observed in Ternopil, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Chernivtsi regions. The higher levels of transmission in these regions corresponds to an increased number of hospital admissions and fatalities associated with severe manifestations of acute respiratory illness.

As of 30 October 2009, over 2,300 individuals have been admitted to hospital, including over 1,100 children. One hundred and thirty one (131) cases have required intensive care, including 32 children. As of 31 October 2009, a total of 38 fatalities associated with severe manifestations of ARI have been registered. Preliminary epidemiological data analysis indicates that severe cases and deaths primarily occur among previously healthy young adults aged 20 – 50 years. Fatal and severe cases are reported to have sought medical attention 5 to 7 days after onset of symptoms.

International experience of the (H1N1) 2009 pandemic to date, especially from the Southern Hemisphere, has shown that poor clinical outcomes are associated with delays in seeking health care and limited access to supportive care. In addition, this virus has also shown its ability to cause rapidly progressive overwhelming lung disease which is very difficult to treat.

Public health measures recommended by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine across the entire country include: social distancing (school closures and cancellation of mass gatherings); enhancement of surveillance activities; increased respiratory hygiene; and continuation of the vaccination campaign against seasonal influenza targeting at risk groups.

The Government of the Ukraine has activated coordination mechanisms to respond to the rapidly evolving situation, including the harmonization of response plans across all administrative levels.

In response to the request from the Minister of Health of Ukraine, WHO is deploying a multi-disciplinary team of experts to assist national authorities in mitigating the impact of the pandemic. The team comprises of the following expertise: health emergencies coordination, case management, epidemiology, laboratory diagnostics, logistics, and media/risk communications.

As per WHO's communication in May 2009, there is no rationale for travel restrictions because such measures will not prevent the spread of the disease.

Travellers can protect themselves and others by following simple recommendations aimed at preventing the spread of infection such as attention to respiratory hygiene. Individuals who are ill should delay travel plans and returning travellers who fall ill should seek appropriate medical care. These recommendations are prudent measures which can limit the spread of many communicable diseases and not only the pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus.

For the two 1918 HA variants, the South Carolina (SC) HA (with Asp190, Asp225) bound exclusively alpha2-6 receptors, while the New York (NY) variant, which differed only by one residue (Gly225), had mixed alpha2-6/alpha2-3 specificity, especially for sulfated oligosaccharides.

The above description is from a paper  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16343533?itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum&ordinalpos=112 analyzing receptor binding domain differences in sequences from the 1918 pandemic.  The New York variant had D225G, the same change found in lung tissues from fatal swine H1N1 sequences in Brazil, Ukraine, and Norway.  The above result clearly demonstrated a change in receptor specificity for D225G, which was present in A/New York/1/1918 and A/London/1/1919, demonstrating the same change I 1918 that has been described in 2009.  Although WHO stated that this change was "not significant" in the Ukraine samples, it was associated with the fatal cases and is cause for concern.  The concern was increased by the announcement from Norway indicating the same change was found in fatal H1N1 lung infections there also.

Although there have been comments that this change was "spontaneous" and did not spread, the finding of the same change in all four deceased patients in Ukraine from two distinct locations, indicates it did spread, as did the finding of the same change in multiple cases in Brazil and Norway.  Although the concept of "random mutation" has been used to explain away the sudden appearance of the same polymorphism on multiple backgrounds, the appearance via recombination is a much stronger argument for the same change to appear at multiple locations at the same time.

The spontaneous mutation theory, which is the foundation of WHO policy and statements on significance of changes relies heavily on a "selection" component, arguing that the same change keeps appearing on different backgrounds because of string selection pressure.  However, this same phenomenon was described for a silent mutation on H5N1, which offers no clear selection pressure.  Similarly, a silent change was also found in seasonal H1N1 in sequences that had acquired the Tamiflu resistance marker, H274Y.  Thus, these silent (synonymous) changes string argue against a coincidental spontaneous mutation, and instead argue that this acquisition is concurrently acquired because of a widespread common donor.

The concept of acquisition via recombination has serious implications for the current pandemic.  It was used to predict the D225G change, in part because the change was "in play" and appearing in July/August sequences at increasing frequency, even though the H1N1 sequences represented different genetic backgrounds.  Similarly the clusters of Tamiflu resistance in Wales and North Carolina are also driven by recombination, as happened when the identical change was acquired in H1N1 seasonal flu in patients who were not taking Tamiflu (oseltamivir).

Thus, the concept of recombination predicts that the D225G receptor binding domain change, and the H274Y Tamiflu resistance change, which continue to spread via recombination

So What Really Happened In The Ukraine?

We have lived through a most interesting experience. From the very end of October until about a week ago, a large Central European nation, the Ukraine, was experiencing what could only be called a man-made biological warfare event in the western part of the Ukraine. At its height, 200,000 people were becoming ill a day! Final official figures indicate that over 1 1/2 million people became sick in a short time, and about 150,000 were hospitalized (over half of which are still in the hospital), but less than 400 died.

As I said at the time, there were really two stories. The first story was the outbreak of what was/is called "Ukrainian Plague". The second story was the fact that the mainstream news media totally ignored the story for the first couple of weeks; with British newspapers (and some American media) finally covering the story only in the last week or so.

We are still not really sure what was/is the cause of the illness. Some people are insisting that this was a 'recombined' or a mutated version of A/H1N1 Swine Flu with a key but small change (D225G receptor site) being responsible for the massive spike in cases and the rather horrific nature of some of the cases. In some fatal cases, the lungs turned to mush, were full of blood and coal black in color, and recorded an internal temperature of 130F to 135F. Many doctors called this Pneumonic Plague, others said it was some type of hemorrhagic fever, others called it hemorrhagic influenza, yet others said it was a type of hemorrhagic pneumonia. These were descriptions based on what the doctors were seeing in the very ill patients.

The World Health Organization (WHO) refused to release genetic sequences for almost two weeks and when it did, said that the disease was simply A/H1N1. WHO did not explain how the Swine Flu, which had been showing itself to be much less dangerous than normal seasonal flu, was suddenly causing such a massive spike in cases or how the mild disease could cause the hemorrhagic effect in lung tissue without a major mutation.

There are a couple of major aspects to the story that are 'most interesting'. In mid-August a dual national Israeli-American citizen, a Joseph Moshe who is an expert on biological warfare and reported to be a Mossad agent, called in to Dr. True Ott's national radio talk show and claimed that Baxter International was getting ready to release a 'Plague' from their Ukrainian facility. I am not sure, but this call might have taken place just after the show was over. In any case, he was arrested on his way to meet with an Assistant US Attorney to report his claims. The arrest was carried on television and it was reported that he was flown out of the US to Israel. Now it appears that he was charged with a minor offense and may be in a California state mental hospital.

The other 'most interesting' aspect to this story is the eyewitness accounts by hundreds, if not thousands, in the western Ukraine who saw light aircraft during the day of October 29 spraying something over Ukrainian cities. The government denied doing this and said that no one had permission to spray the cities. Within hours of this spraying, people began to get very ill. In fact the beginning of the spike of the illnesses from "Ukrainian Plague' is connected to the time of the spraying of the western Ukrainian cities with some unknown material.

If this is a 'recombination' or 'mutation' of Swine Flu, WHY HAS THE GROWTH IN THE NUMBER OF CASES DECLINED SO DRAMATICALLY? It is said that the changed virus (A/H1N1) has spread to Norway, and perhaps Poland and the eastern part of the Ukraine. If so, and the D225G change is the reason for the massive spike in sicknesses in the western Ukraine and the hemorrhagic lungs in the worst cases, why are we not seeing such large numbers of very sick people in Norway, Poland, eastern Ukraine, etc.?

Something rotten is going on here! But the true reason for what happened, and the people responsible are not publicly known at this time. Nor is any clear indication known as to what is apt to happen in the future with regards to "Ukrainian Plague".

The Ministry of health protection informed yesterday that from the beginning of epidemic in Ukraine 381 has died of different flu forms, 7 of them died last day. In spite of this fact the decision to cancel quarantine regime and open all educational establishments in Kiev this Wednesday was adopted. Dr. Debra Parsons, a pediatrician at Kid Care West in Cross Lanes, was met with reactions of doubt from local health officials last month
when she said two flu tests had come back positive for H1N1, or swine flu.

Parsons first came down with the virus, complete with all the telltale symptoms, in August.

Her son became ill at the same time with the same symptoms. Figuring they had the same bug, Parsons tested herself to see what it was.

The test came back positive for Influenza A, so the lab at Charleston Area Medical Center sent it to be sub-typed. Parsons was positive for H1N1.

Parsons and her son recovered, but in October they started having the same symptoms, but they became much worse.

They were both tested this time, and the results were the same -- they were positive for Influenza A and then H1N1.

"It was swine flu both times," Parsons said.

The above comments on lab confirmed re-infection of two family members two months apart by swine H1N1. 
These confirmations are supported by many anecdotal reports of similar re-infections. 
The timing of these infections allowed for easy identification, because at the time there was no seasonal flu, so identification of infections was straight-forward. 
Moreover, such infections in school aged children and parents are common because H1N1 infections exploded when school began.

At the time however, the H1N1 virus was evolving slowly, reflecting an ease of infection of a naïve population.  The jump from swine H1N1 into humans allows for infections with low doses of virus.  Low concentration of virus produces a mild infection and a weak antibody response.  The rapid spread creates widespread antibody, but the low level allows for re-infection from individuals with a higher viral load.  A higher viral load can be created in a school environment, where some students could be infected multiple times because of frequent contact with infected students.

Thus, the increased viral load could overcome the weak immune-response and re-infect those infected earlier, leading to a second wave.  However, the higher viral load leads to more serious infections, especially for these not infected in the first wave.  Consequently more previously health young adults develop more serious symptoms, leading to an increase in hospitalizations and deaths.  The higher viral load, especially when combined with receptor binding domain changes such as D225G can lead to the type of cases seen in Ukraine, where a high percentage of young adults develop infections that destroy both lungs in a matter of  a few days.

In many areas, including Ukraine, this wave is subsiding, but the holiday season will lead to new infections by viruses with regional markers, leading to a third wave in early 2010.

Scientist Repeats Swine Flu Lab-Escape Claim in Published Study

Nov. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Adrian Gibbs, the virologist who said in May that swine flu may have escaped from a laboratory, published his findings today, renewing discussion about the origins of the pandemic virus.

The new H1N1 strain, which was discovered in Mexico and the U.S. in April, may be the product of three strains from three continents that swapped genes in a lab or a vaccine-making plant, Gibbs, and fellow Australian scientists wrote in Virology Journal. The authors analyzed the genetic makeup of the virus and found its origin could be more simply explained by human involvement than a coincidence of nature.

Their study, published in a free, online journal reviewed by other scientists, follows debate among researchers six months ago, when Gibbs asked the World Health Organization to consider the hypothesis. After reviewing Gibbs’ initial three-page paper, WHO and other organizations concluded the pandemic strain was a naturally occurring virus and not laboratory-derived.

“It is important that the source of the new virus be found if we wish to avoid future pandemics rather than just trying to minimize the consequences after they have emerged,” Gibbs and colleagues John Armstrong and Jean Downie said in today’s eight- page study.

Gibbs and Armstrong are on the emeritus faculty at the Australian National University in Canberra and Downie is affiliated with the Centre for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Laboratory Services at Sydney’s Westmead Hospital, according to the study.

While the exact source of the new H1N1 strain is a mystery, their research has “raised many new questions,” they said. The authors compared the genetic blueprints of flu strains stored in the free database Genbank and found the pandemic virus’s nearest ancestors circulate in pigs.

‘Simplest Explanation’

While migratory birds may have acted as conduit for their convergence, human involvement in bringing them together is “by far the simplest explanation,” Gibbs said in a telephone interview today.

Gibbs wrote or coauthored more than 250 scientific publications on viruses, mostly pertaining to the plant world, during his 39-year career at the Australian National University, according to biographical information on the university’s Web site.

“Knowing Adrian Gibbs, he will have thought through it pretty logically and come to that conclusion,” Lance Jennings, a clinical virologist with Canterbury Health Laboratories in Christchurch, New Zealand, said in a telephone interview. “It’s up to someone else to try and prove it or disprove it.”

I have read lab mice escaped from a biolab somewhere in NE USA - N.J.? .. not sure ..

Over 1,000 in a week dying of 'Flu'

The global number of swine flu deaths has jumped by more than 1,000 in a week, latest figures from the World Health Organization (WHO) show.

At least 7,826 people are now known to have died following infection with the H1N1 virus since it first emerged in Mexico in April.

Europe saw an 85% increase in the week, with the total number of deaths rising from at least 350 to at least 650.

However, in most cases the virus continues to produce mild symptoms.

Most recover within a week even without medical treatment.
The biggest rise in deaths was recorded in the Americas, where the death toll rose to 5,360 - a rise of 554 cases in one week.

Health authorities in Norway and France have each recorded two fatalities from a mutated strain of H1N1.

China, Japan, Norway, Ukraine and the US have also recorded cases of people being infected with a mutated strain.
French health officials confirmed that two patients infected by a mutation that was also recently detected in Norway had died in two different cities in France.
This mutation affects the lungs.
TAMIFLU useless on one of the patients who died in France.

Granted - 446 dead in an entire country is no biggie.  Remember - that count is ONLY dead from what the heck ever they call 'flu' -

I have seen long articles that the 1918 was hemorrhagic.

Hemorrhagic fevers are dengue, marburg and ebola virusus.  Ebola is the most fatal.
I have to wonder if the guilty who made the round 1 cocktail virus

I find the little circle going there is very interesting. Let me explain, I have been trying as much as possible to follow a trail, it seems to be coming in a circle.

First, understand almost every Examiner Swine Flu piece is written by Victoria Nicks, an Air Force Military Veteran.

She is a Freelance writer, who seems to have connections and LOVES to Promote ONE Site OVER ALL OTHERS - She Loves to Profile Henry Niman and Recombinomics. She loves to write all about mutations. Also she wrote a book about the Swine Flu Vaccine and what ingredients are in it. I have not read the book - but it seems to be for the vaccine, it seems to give info, so people won't be scared of it. When she has directly written about the vaccine, she says any side effects are mild.

Here she writes how pregnant women should get vaccinated.

Here she writes the very simple differences of the seasonal flu vaccine compared to the Swine flu vaccine and states what the CDC Recommends.

Here she writes about the ingredients in the Swine Flu vaccine - says hardly any mercury AND Says CDC is recommending pregnant women to get vaccinated.

Here she basically recommends the Vaccine for Babies!

I am going to say this, we are being filled with disinformation - as if the Bacterial Pneumonia has been there all along and the H1N1 is what is causing it.

Can viral REALLY go into something Bacterial?

OR is it a spin saying there has been Bacterial Pneumonia previously, so no one needs to get all excited about any reports of spraying and then Bacterial Pneumonia afterwards?

So, considering the sources are EX Military - The Doctor WHO most likely helped Create what is going around AND a man who has been well embedded with Institutes - Scripp Institute, Harvard University and those have worked WITH Rockefeller Institute - AND has the INSIDE of the Virus "mutations" from WHO. Henry Niman, Firmly believes in vaccines and he recombines things for vaccines to be made from them. Also MANY others have raised doubts as I have found about Mr. Niman previously, as I have been researching him.

I believe we are being led down a lane that certain Higher people want us to go down.

BUT I will LOOK AT EVERYTHING CRITICALLY - Because I am figuring out, how the Disinfo works - So, Do I Seriously believe the H1N1 mutates to Bacterial Pneumonia or is that part of a "move along, nothing to see here - there have been no sprayings and the plague afterwards?"

ALSO considering Ukraine deaths did NOT Test Positive for H1N1 but had bacterial pneumonia!

Fatalities are still spiking as some of those that were hospitalized die but it looks like ARI (those reported with acute respiratory illness) numbers are leveling off.  This uptick in deaths may indicate that the lethal mutation D225G is becoming more prominant in the H1N1 viral mix which is cause for concern.
